00:00All right, in a couple of weeks, the NFL draft will be upon us,
00:07and it'll be interesting to see exactly where the Texans go
00:13when it comes to the draft, and we'll see if they are there at 28.
00:20And that's one of the beauties of the Texans in this regime
00:24and dealing with Nick Casario.
00:26You really don't know what he's going to do, right?
00:29He may move back.
00:32He may move up.
00:33He moved up to go get Will Anderson.
00:36He may stay where he is, stay where he was, get C.J. Stroud.
00:40He may move back, get Kenyon Green, but he'll do a lot of different things.
00:47You don't know what he's going to do.
00:49That's right, man.
00:49He's got it.
00:51Always has.
00:53Always has.
00:55But at 28, Clint, if you just take away position,
01:02which the Texans are an interesting spot right now,
01:04and we've kind of talked about it,
01:05is they at least have what feels like an NFL starter at every position.
01:11Like a legit NFL starter.
01:13There is not a single position, at least.
01:17And I would agree with them.
01:18I think they believe.
01:19And I would agree with them that when you're like, yeah, we don't have a starter there.
01:23We have to get this in the draft.
01:25I don't think they're in that spot.
01:27So they can play with things when it comes to the type of player they're going to draft.
01:34But as I said this to the people, 713-5724-610, those of you on the Base Power Text Line
01:40and YouTube and Twitch,
01:42whatever it is, whatever type of player it is, if it's a D tackle, if it's a linebacker like we
01:46saw,
01:47if it's a wide receiver, if it's a tight end, for you, what do you expect?
01:53What do you expect that would be worthy of the number 28 pick for the Texans?
02:00What do I expect?
02:02What do you expect that would be worthy for that?
02:04You're like, all right, that's what they needed to get out of that pick.
02:07Yeah, look, I mean, I want them to draft a guy at 28 or in the first round if they've
02:11got to be aggressive and move up.
02:12I want them to draft a guy that.
02:14How do you want them to do that?
02:15Well, I mean, I just want them to be in a position of we've got to go get a difference
02:18maker.
02:20We've got to go get a guy that helps take us over the hump.
02:22That gives us a better chance in the second round of the playoffs to win.
02:26A guy that gives us a better chance to score points
02:29or play even better defense against the best teams in the league.
02:33A guy, I put it to you like this, any guy anywhere that the announcer doesn't have to bring my
02:39attention to.
02:40I want to turn the game on and I want to see that guy being utilized,
02:43even as a weapon offensively or as an interior defensive line.
02:47Like, I want that guy in the game and it's like, hey, man, look out at that first round picks
02:52in the game.
02:52Be careful.
02:53Y'all got to check this guy out, right?
02:54That is what I hope we see.
02:57Not a guy that needs to be brought along by midseason.
02:59Oh, never mind.
03:00Not a guy that doesn't start.
03:02You know, not a guy that's rotating at center or guard, you know, for the first half of the season.
03:11Somebody that is plug and play, let's go.
03:14I was going to ask, so Higgins, like the equivalent of Higgins is not what you would look at and
03:20say,
03:20this, that would meet the expectations.
03:23I mean, I think that ended up panning out well and ended up being a good second-round pick and
03:31a contributor.
03:33But if I'm being honest, like, I don't think he's changing games.
03:36Like, I want to see a level of play, like a physical ability that is different.
03:43I want to see a player that is just has – there's some kind of tangible ability that when we
03:52watch the kid play,
03:55there is – if he's an offensive lineman and he's just a massive, you know, man-moving machine,
04:03but he ain't very good at pass, whatever it may be.
04:04I mean, like, I just want a first-round quality that we as Texans see and go, yeah, this is
04:11going to help us win in late January.
04:15This is going to help us win against the best that the league has to offer.
04:20That kind of player, that's what I hope they get in the first round.
04:24That was my thinking is when you look at the last couple of years, last guys they've drafted,
04:29and they don't always – their first pick is not always in the first round.
04:32I don't know how the last two years it hasn't been, but if you look at it, Clint, I'm with
04:36you.
04:36It took – like, Jaden Higgins, it took him a while to get – like, he couldn't get past Xavier
04:43Hutchinson for a while, right?
04:44Like, he couldn't get past some of the guys where you were hoping that he would, you know, put himself
04:50in there.
04:51There was no Tank Dale.
04:52It was kind of clear for him as their top guy selected there.
04:55But like you said, he eventually started to make an impact the second half of the season even further away.
05:01But it feels like this player in that first round, and like you said, Clint, they may move up to
05:07make a move or whatever,
05:09that player should have an impact the way that, like, a Kamari Lassner did.
05:13Yeah.
05:14You know what I mean?
05:14Like, that would –
05:16Absolutely.
05:16At 28, in the first round, 28, if you move up or whatever, it – like, for a team, again,
05:21that, remember, is trying to get to a Super Bowl
05:25to have that level of – more closer to that level of impact to where – like, he came in
05:32there and just took a job.
05:33Yeah.
05:34Came in there and took a job.
05:35And listen, we know it's well-documented, and I'm sure many people will remind us here on the text line,
05:40but we were skeptical of his ability to play where they were putting him.
05:44He came and took a job, and you weren't even thinking he's a rookie by the middle of the year,
05:49and he was a big piece, and is now still a big piece to this team.
05:54A place where you feel like you've got to hold – that's the kind of impact to me that would
05:57make 28 feel worthy.
05:59Well, I mean, look, for those folks that want to remind us of the Kamari Lassner take,
06:03I want to remind you of the Kalen Bullock take as well, which panned out pretty well.
06:07So, yeah, look, but where I was going with that was, you know, you guys –
06:11I think there's several examples on the defensive side of the football.
06:15Kalen Bullock, you mentioned Kamari Lasseter.
06:18The obvious ones of Will Anderson and Derek Stingley Jr., that kind of –
06:22that's not what I'm talking about because I know there's a difference between number three and number 28.
06:27But, you know, I think there was a time when Christian Harris was one of those,
06:30every time he got on the field, it was like, look out.
06:32Yep, that's a good one.
06:33I think – did I say Jalen Petrie?
06:35I think Jalen Petrie was one of those guys.
06:36Now, I know he had a little sophomore slump, if you will,
06:38but he was one of those guys that, boy, when you got on the field,
06:41you saw him do some similar things in the league that he was doing at Baylor,
06:44and you were like, whoa, look out now.
06:45There's some instincts here.
06:47Like, that's the kind of thing that I'm talking about is, you know,
06:52I think Woody Marks ended up being one of those guys,
06:54even though I would have liked to have seen him used a little differently,
06:57and I'd like to see him have got the opportunity out of the gate
06:59instead of rotating four or five backs through in the first game.
07:02But, you know, I think there's – to me, it's just that.
07:05I don't give a damn where you pick him.
07:06And, I mean, there's some positions I'd rather you corner
07:09and edge rusher I'd rather you stay away from.
07:12But, I mean, like, it really doesn't matter what position he plays,
07:15but I want that guy – I want us to watch the first couple of weeks of football
07:18and go, yeah, this guy made us significantly better.
07:21Next line coming in, the only player that can do that is Kenyon Sadiq.
07:24And I don't – listen, listen, we would be absolutely excited for the Texans
07:29if they pulled that off.
07:30And Clint may – Clint may lose his mind right here.
07:33He may just put his hog completely on the table if that were to happen.
07:38But I don't think that it's necessarily that he's the only one to do it.
07:42Listen, we just talked about it.
07:43Did I think – did I think Kamari Lashner was going to come in and do that?
07:48Hell no, I didn't think Kamari Lashner was going to come in.
07:53Hell no, I didn't think Tankdale was going to come in and do that.
07:56But they've had and shown over the last couple of years under D'Amico,
08:00they've got rookies, Kalen Bullock too.
08:02They've got rookies that come in, step in,
08:04and are able to make a big-time impact on this team.
08:09And I think they could do that.
08:10I don't think it is just Sadiq.
08:12Banks, the kid from Florida, could be that.
08:15There's some offensive linemen.
08:17And I think – and I've talked about this with Tyler, his guy, his Aggie,
08:20KC Concepcion could be a guy that comes in and makes a major impact.
08:25It doesn't have to be that.
08:26Hill, who we talked about, who Nate Tyson and McDonald had in the first round.
08:30If he comes in and makes a huge piece.
08:34But they just – it feels like to be worthy of that pick,
08:36they've got to have somebody come out and be that.
08:40And not just, all right, boy, you lost them.
08:43Boy, are they even playing?
08:45We don't know if they're out there for a while.
08:47There can't be a Jaylen Noel type.
08:48And I like Jaylen Noel.
08:50It can't be – it's got to be more production than that.
