00:00A total of 49 illegal immigrants believed to be working without permits were detained
00:07by the Immigration Department in 16 raids in Johor Bahru.
00:11Johor Immigration Director Datuk Mohamed Ruzdi Mohamed Darus said the operation began at
00:1712.10 a.m. on Saturday.
00:20A total of 24 enforcement personnel carried out 16 raids at shophouses and residential
00:26premises around Johor Jaya.
00:28All the foreigners were resting inside the premises, and some attempted to flee and hide
00:33on rooftops, but were successfully apprehended.
00:37Those detained included 12 Myanmar men, 11 Pakistani men, 8 Bangladeshi men, 2 Indonesian
00:44men, 12 Myanmar women, and 4 Indonesian women, aged 20 to 49.
00:50Checks revealed that they did not possess valid travel documents and had overstayed their permitted
00:55period.
00:56All of them are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959-63 and have been sent
01:03to the Setia Tropica Immigration Depot.
