00:00That's the beauty of this offseason.
00:01Is it anybody but Deshaun offseason?
00:04Means literally anybody but Deshaun.
00:07There's no terms and conditions here.
00:09Yeah.
00:10There's no like...
00:11Ball boy, anybody.
00:12Honestly, the guy that caught the passes from Shador in camp,
00:18I've heard he's got a decent arm.
00:20I've heard he's actually got a better arm than Dylan Gabriel.
00:22And he also might be taller.
00:23Just an unnecessary shot to Dylan Gabriel.
00:25I know.
00:26You know what?
00:27You'll take Dylan over Shador?
00:28Dylan Gabriel over Deshaun Watson too.
00:31I might just watch something else on Sundays if that's the race that we have.
00:35I might.
00:35That'd be funny to watch a little guy run around.
00:37Maybe I'll be a soccer fan or something on Sundays.
00:39I don't know.
00:40He's a tiny little guy.
00:42I can't really like go with Dylan too hard with this
00:45when I'm already like, sure, bring in a smaller quarterback in Kyler Murray.
00:50That's where the options are this offseason.
00:52Yeah.
00:53There's a big difference between the two though.
00:55One's actually played good football in the NFL.
00:57Yeah.
00:57You know, one is a Heisman.
01:00One has played in college football playoffs.
01:02One is also the greatest high school football player in the state of Texas.
01:06One's the second greatest in the state of Hawaii.
01:08The other.
01:08Yeah, exactly.
01:09You know what I mean?
01:10Like there's a pretty big gap between the accomplishments of one and the other.
01:14Yeah.
01:14Only like a one inch gap between their heights.
01:17They are both short in the way that like you and I are both radio hosts.
01:21And that's where the conversation stops.
01:22You know what I mean?
01:23Like that's all they really have going on together.
01:26So this does bring us to the next conclusion.
01:29Again, officially, for everyone to hear, for about a month, I was drunk.
01:35It was a tough winter.
01:36And I said, hey, maybe Munkin could get something out of Deshaun.
01:41I mean, it was shocking when you said it.
01:42Case closed.
01:43Don't care.
01:43It was a very shocking thing when you'd said it.
01:45Now, that being said, I think I'm kind of in on the Geno Smith idea.
01:50Okay.
01:51I'm not completely out of it, but there is a hangup that I have within all of this discussion.
01:55Is it that he's old?
01:56Well, first off, I'd much rather see Shador play than Geno Smith.
01:58I have to put that out there at the front of it.
02:00That just has to be the starting point.
02:01I don't think anyone's surprised by that.
02:02No, they shouldn't be.
02:04But like if like the competition ends up being between the two of them, all right, fine.
02:07Let's dance.
02:08I don't love the idea that people are so quick to be like, well, Geno, I can't even count Geno's
02:13year last season with the Raiders.
02:15That just doesn't even count.
02:17They were so bad in so many places.
02:19Boo-hoo.
02:20You had Brock Bowers, okay?
02:21And so like I have a hard time just wiping it all clean for Geno Smith last year.
02:27So we can't even put the context to it?
02:29Well, because this situation isn't going to be any better.
02:31And so like it's different.
02:32If you think Geno Smith's going to be good because in Seattle he had a lot of pieces
02:36around him and a lot of weapons, like, all right, I got that.
02:39But that's not the situation he's entering with the Browns.
02:41He's entering a situation that is, in my opinion, on par or worse than what you saw with the
02:46Raiders last year.
02:47So I actually disagree.
02:49I think last year they were on par with each other.
02:52If they're still on par with each other this year going forward, Andrew Berry and Todd
02:56Monken don't know their head from their ass.
02:57Well, they might not, though.
02:58That's the situation is they might not know their head from their ass.
03:01Dwight, you trust them to actually get this figured out and situated?
03:04I have a stronger trust in them using this as a transition year and maybe not being the
03:09most competitive team, then I do them all of a sudden turning it into something that's
03:12awesome.
03:13Yeah, but there's kind of shades to this, right?
03:16Like, do I think with Geno Smith, some of what I think you could accomplish with Kyler
03:21Murray, and I'm not talking legitimately because one's a mobile quarterback and the other's
03:26Geno Smith and he's old.
03:27But do I think that you could have some of the same results offensively with Geno?
03:32Yeah, I don't think it has the same upside because Kyler is a—Kyler, if you can get
03:38back those explosive plays Kyler used to make, that's a real boom kind of situation for you.
03:43Yeah.
03:43But do I think Geno Smith with this offense, with a better offensive line, maybe a Jordan
03:48Tyson or Carnell Tate with a sixth pick, and another year of Fannin, maybe another tight
03:53end in that room that could actually catch the ball?
03:55Sorry, David.
03:56But yeah, yeah, like I see upside with Geno Smith, even if he doesn't come with the benefit
04:02of Kyler, because Kyler could be a multi-year bridge, and I think Geno's 36, and that's
04:07a bridge to 2027 at best.
04:10Geno's 36, he led the league in interceptions last year, and at the end of the season, the
04:13chants in Las Vegas were tank masters, what they called him.
04:18Yeah, that's—
04:18He turned into the tank master with his nickname.
04:20Vegas fans aren't real.
04:21I mean, they booed him at the end of the year.
04:22That's the reason why he can't come back in any sort of way, because they just booed him
04:26at the end of the year.
04:26That's probably because he cost them some sort of coupon at the Raiders stadium for
04:30the Bunny Ranch.
04:31Yeah, with a free buffet and the ranch.
04:32I'll be honest with you, I can hear a lot of fans booing a quarterback, and I'll take
04:36that some which way.
04:37Raiders fans are somehow lower than Dolphins fans to me, and Falcons fans is just completely
04:43non-existent entities.
04:45I'm open to the idea that Pete Carroll didn't know what he was doing and didn't really treat
04:48this seriously, and the whole thing was a disaster in Las Vegas.
04:51And Chuck Kelly apparently was counting his money.
04:53Yeah, while also acknowledging the idea that I don't think he's entering some awesome
04:56situation here.
04:57And so I think what made Geno work and why people are like, oh, go out and get someone
05:01like Geno is like the idea, well, in Seattle he had a lot of things working for him.
05:05There was a good part of that team that obviously had a lot of talent to it, whereas with this,
05:10this is an uphill battle.
05:11And so if he wants to come in and compete—listen, the beautiful thing about Geno, and this is
05:15why I would be open to him having a competition with Shador, although I want Shador to win
05:18that out, is it's the same convo with Kyler to a degree, the idea that you wouldn't trade
05:25anything, and he's going to cost you nothing.
05:28He's going to be that—I heard Baskin and Phelps debating what the money's going to be
05:31earlier today, or Baskin and Tom Withers are like, what's the money going to be?
05:34It's simple, guys.
05:35This is not hard.
05:36He's got $18 million in guaranteed money for next year.
05:39No one's paying Geno Smith $18 million.
05:41It's going to be the $1.3 million, and that's it.
05:45It's the same cost that you got with Kyler Murray.
05:47I love outrage about paying Geno Smith any amount of money.
05:49Well, Baskin had his decision was going to hinge on what the money is, and it's like,
05:52guys, it's the same situation that Kyler's into.
05:55No one's paying above what his guarantees are for next year, so the Raiders are going to
05:58be paying that, and you just have to pay the $1.3 million.
06:01You can—wasn't Baskin kind of in on Malik Willis?
06:06By the way—
06:06Because if you're pro-paying Malik Willis $25 million, and you're like, I cannot pay
06:11Geno Smith $7 million, I will fistfight you in public, even somebody I love like Andy
06:15Baskin.
06:16The money was a big thing for him.
06:18But both of them ended with the idea that they wanted Jador over Geno Smith, for whatever
06:22that's worth.
06:22That sounded like Jabba the Hutt getting it on over there.
06:24I don't know what that—was that a pig eating?
06:26Is that what that was?
06:26No, that was Baskin earlier today.
06:28Oh my gosh.
06:29Can I get that sound?
06:30Oh, jeez.
06:32Sounded like downtown Baskin.
06:34Is he sleeping there?
06:35Is that what that is?
06:36No, that's his boom noise.
06:38Oh.
06:39That sounds like a—
06:40All right, and I don't know that I need to hear that ever again.
06:42I kind of do.
06:43I don't know that I need to hear that ever again.
06:45Now I feel bad for Mrs. Baskin.
06:47About four people in history have heard that noise out of Andy Baskin.
06:52So Geno Smith.
06:53Now, and here's actually—
06:55Here's what I ultimately do think is what I like even more about the Geno Smith than the
07:01Kyler thing is, I think if you sign Kyler, to me, the question's answered.
07:05Kyler's your starting quarterback, and the only way Shador sees the field next year is
07:09injury.
07:10I think Geno versus Shador allows me a chance to get Shador real competition, and it protects
07:18me from two things.
07:19Shador just not having anything, and the coaching staff seeing that in OTAs, and ever seeing
07:27Deshaun Watson ever again.
07:28Yeah, 100%.
07:29I don't know you could thread the needle so perfectly, because I would trust Geno Smith
07:34to start a full season here if we had to.
07:36And Geno falls into that bucket of players that would actually come here, because I don't
07:41think he's going to have interest from the other guys.
07:42Like, the Vikings have no interest in him.
07:45The Jets aren't going to bring him back.
07:46Jets aren't going to do that.
07:47And so, like, the teams that would—and then, to be fair to Geno, Geno probably looks at
07:52Shador Sanders and says, I can win that battle.
07:54And so, like, if that's how he has to think in order to get in here, then fine.
07:57Come in here and go try to win a battle.
07:59Like, that's what this should be all about.
08:01But yes, there's a parachute attached to—if you throw Shador out there and it's not going
08:04great, you have Geno in back of him.
08:06And I—there's a lot to like about this.
08:08There's no denying that.
08:10But I wouldn't do the same thing I'd do with Kyler, where I'd say you're the starter out
08:13of the rip.
08:13Yes, 100%.
08:14That does not happen for him.
08:15It happens for Kyler.
08:16It doesn't happen for Geno.
08:17Now, because these videos get clipped, and I will not be making a pronouncement that I
08:21will be flip-flopping on this any time in the future, I'm not telling you Geno Smith
08:26would change the course of Brown's history.
08:29I don't know that he would even beat Shador out in a quarterback derby.
08:34I think a lot of it would look like what it did last year with the Raiders, if we're
08:37being truthful.
08:38But I actually think he'd look better.
08:40Well, I mean, it's hard to look worse than what he did last year, if we're being 100%
08:44honest about it.
08:44Like, I know Brock Bowers is a hell of a football—they made Ashton Gentey look like Trent
08:49Richardson.
08:50I mean, like, it was the perfect storm of awful, and Geno actually did still aspire to some level
08:59as a player.
09:00I mean, I had an out-and-out fight with our guy from NFL.com about who has a worse
09:05offensive
09:06line between the Raiders and the Browns.
09:07Like, that was a full-on fight, but, like, the idea that we could have that fight and
09:11that argument, and I'm throwing KT Levinston in his face, and he's like, I think I might
09:15have you one more beat.
09:17Like, that's how—that's the sad state of the offensive line that they had.
09:19And even though Kevin Stefanski got fired last year, so it's clearly the coaching staff
09:24didn't do the greatest job in the history of the planet.
09:26Somehow, what happened with Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly last year was one of—like, there
09:31should be a 30-for-30 on how bad that situation was.
09:34So there is an element to me where I'm like, like, Geno is a nice player.
09:39He is what he is.
09:40He is maybe the 20th best quarterback at his—I do think his arm strength is a little bit
09:46wanting from where it was two years ago, but look at his stats two years ago, and look
09:50at him this last year.
09:52I mean, he still throws a lot of interceptions, though.
09:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:54And two years ago he did that.
09:55Two years ago he did that as well.
09:57Like, and it's not as if he—but he has a high completion percentage.
10:00He's gonna—he's gonna be fine in that department.
10:02Like, there's—there's a lot to like about Geno.
10:04I—I wouldn't sell the farm for him, but again, you're not doing that here.
10:07It should be noted.
10:08No one here is pounding the table for Geno Smith.
10:11We can't say this enough.
10:13Just like Kyler Murray.
10:14Like, when we're making, like, valid points on why Kyler Murray would make sense here,
10:20that's different than, I think Kyler Murray is going to be your Alex Smith.
10:24Understand that.
10:26But do I think Geno Smith could satisfy my curiosity—no, no, no.
10:30My need for an adult in the room that if Shador can't take a jump this year or is just
10:36unplayable,
10:36I have someone I can go to for 17 games?
10:40Yes, he does.
10:41Yeah, this feels very realistic, and it feels very practical from a Browns perspective.
10:45Like, it checks off a lot of the boxes that we've been talking about this offseason,
10:48and it's just—we were just waiting on something like this to happen.
10:50He sits right there.
10:51And I kind of think, in a season where people don't have expectations,
10:55I know the interceptions are gonna upset people.
10:57I think people would like kind of the Geno Smith gunslinger kind of thing that he does.
11:01Because in the same way, the guys—not only did they win more games with Shador down the stretch,
11:06I kind of just enjoyed watching a guy go out there and just try and sling the ball around the
11:10yard
11:10with a team that was falling apart around him.
11:13Like, there's an element of that where both Geno and Shador are guys who try to make plays
11:18that is so much more enjoyable in what could be another five-win season
11:23than, like, a check-down-Charlie five-win season.
11:26Yeah, I mean, check down Charlie five-win season.
11:29That's the Dylan Gabriel season.
11:30No one signed enough for that.
11:31We're just not—we need to be out of that.
11:32Stefanski's gone.
11:33Munkin's no risky, no bisky.
11:35Remember that.
11:36Munkin's not gonna do—he's not gonna do as dirty like that.
11:38And Todd, I need you to be Bruce Arians.
11:41I don't need you to be, oh, Marty Schottenheimer with, like, any running back or any quarterback ever.
11:48No, I got a lot of belief in Munkin in that.
11:50I got a lot of belief in Munkin in that.
11:51He's gonna be able to throw the ball around.
