00:00The Jets say that Geno Smith's best football is ahead of him.
00:03But did they bring enough assets in for Geno to take them to the promised land?
00:08Listen, he fits exactly what we're trying to do.
00:10So obviously we've created an identity.
00:12The foundation of our offense is pretty good now.
00:15Like, I just feel like he's the guy that's going to lead us to the promised land.
00:18He's the guy that's going to touch the ball more than anybody else.
00:21And they did bring in offensive coordinator Frank Wright.
00:23They drafted some stud weapons on the offensive side of the football in the first round.
00:28Re-signed Brees Hall to an extension.
00:31And had a complete and total makeover on the defensive side of the football.
00:35But again, I ask you, is that enough?
00:38So let's break down how the Jets' offseason moves put Geno in a better position to win than Justin Fields.
00:45First and foremost, they hired Frank Wright as an OC.
00:49He's an experienced coordinator who's worked with some of the best in the game.
00:54And I'm talking best quarterbacks ever.
00:56So I expect him to come in and call short and intermediate concepts to keep Geno in a nice, smooth
01:03rhythm.
01:03And then you take advantage of what Geno did very well in 2024.
01:07And that's push the football down the field.
01:10Let me break that down for you guys.
01:12Check this out.
01:14On throws of 20-plus yards in 2024, Geno ranked first among full-time starters in completion percentage at 47
01:21.6%.
01:22And touchdowns with 14.
01:24He also racked up 30 big-time throws to just six turnovers on deep passes.
01:30You gotta love that stat.
01:32That's the version of Geno Smith that the Jets are betting on.
01:37And Wright is an offensive coordinator that's gonna put Geno in position to manage the game,
01:43not be foolish with the football, and then take shots when needed.
01:47The second thing that they did, you can't push the football down the field with play action.
01:52Unless, one, you have a run game, and two, weapons to throw it to.
01:57So the second best move or moves that they made were signing Brees Hall to that extension and drafting playmakers
02:03in the first round.
02:04So, tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
02:09A tight end, as everybody knows, it may sound cliche, but is a quarterback's best friend.
02:14Sadiq is an absolute stud and mismatch in the passing game.
02:18He's a 4-3 running tight end that led all FBS tight ends with eight receiving touchdowns in 2025.
02:26You can get the most out of him.
02:29Line him up anywhere on the field.
02:31You can run him up the seam.
02:32You can run deep crosses with him.
02:34This kid should make an immediate impact on this Jets offense.
02:39And Omar Cooper Jr., I felt like this kid was one of the most slept-on wide receivers in the
02:44draft
02:45after putting up 13 receiving touchdowns last season.
02:48He plays right into both Geno's and Frank Reich's strengths.
02:52An explosive, short-to-intermediate route runner who is going to get you a lot of yak after the catch.
02:59I'm talking think Debo Samuel-type yak ability.
03:03He forced 27 missed tackles in 2025, which was fourth most in FBS.
03:08And he generated 29 catches of 20-plus yards over the past two seasons.
03:14If they can get these rookies caught up to speed quickly,
03:18they're going to add value to an offense that needs to get more out of his past catchers,
03:24not named Garrett Wilson.
03:26Third, the defense underwent an extreme makeover.
03:31I'm talking nose job, boob job, BBL.
03:34I'm talking the works.
03:36Everybody knows that the Jets defense is coming off an embarrassing season
03:41where they went the entire year without a single interception.
03:45Former defensive coordinator Steve Wilkes, he's out.
03:48Aaron Glenn has taken over the play-calling duties now that his job is on the line.
03:53They've also brought in some guys via free agency in the draft
03:56who should step in and help strengthen this defense.
03:59Five-time pro bowler Mika Fitzpatrick, he comes home to Jersey.
04:03And they signed cornerback Nashawn Wright,
04:06who led the entire NFL with takeaways in 2025 with eight.
04:10They also drafted edge rusher David Bailey with the number two overall pick.
04:15He led college football with 14 and a half sacks.
04:18And then they went and got cornerback D'Angelo Pons,
04:21who I'm excited about, with the 50th overall pick.
04:25That's a kid who showed up and showed up big in some big games in the college football playoffs.
04:32He was defensive MVP for both the Peach Bowl and the Rose Bowl.
04:36A better defense should, no, not should, will allow Geno and the Jets' offense
04:42to not have to play from behind as much as they did last year
04:46and not get away from what they want to do,
04:49which is run the football with Brees Hall and manage a game.
04:53Last season, the Jets trailed for 711 minutes and 54 seconds.
04:59That's 69.8% of the time.
05:02They were tied for 185 minutes and 36 seconds.
05:07That was 18.2% of the time.
05:10And they only led for 122 minutes and 30 seconds.
05:15That's only 12% of the time.
05:17You cannot run the ball and stay in rhythm with a Geno Smith
05:22when you're playing from behind pretty much the entire game.
05:25So hopefully a better defense in 2026 can help get the most out of Geno.
05:31Aaron Glenn said that Geno was going to take this team to the promised land.
05:35Let's see if they gave him the assets to do it.
