00:00it's time for the c block starring cory majors thank you very much kevin i really appreciate
00:04that the um the world is uh is developing and evolving and changing all the time
00:11and uh one of my questions comes from bruce feldman's uh piece that he has on the athletic
00:17the nfl combine takeaways the fastest class ever and uh prospects who delivered now i wanted to
00:24kind of have the conversation of this like are we at a point now where we're entering a new era
00:31of
00:31athlete a they're the world where it used to be like okay to roll out of bed and go out
00:36there versus
00:37you know like our grandpa showed up with a pack of palm balls and went out there and did something
00:43and then their t-shirts versus dudes who trained their entire adolescence to be this and what is
00:49the the cause for what is happening and that is you know bruce feldman bringing up of the eight
00:56position group seven all have posted the fastest times in combine history wow uh only one group
01:04the quarterbacks did not uh but they still recorded the second best average uh so like this was the
01:11fastest group out there and then you talk about guys that were on the freaks list their top two guys
01:16on the freaks list and alec you can attest to these two dudes we expected a lot out of them
01:22sunny styles and kenyan sadiq both went out there and exceeded the hype of what they were like their
01:28tests were amazing and kenyan sadiq i think when you we talked about it a lot right around that time
01:35we were like this dude is going to make people drool whenever they see him do these combine things
01:40because those are tricks for him uh the game is where it's like you get to see the other part
01:45of him
01:45as long as he can catch the ball all the time uh but like styles when you pulled up your
01:51phone
01:52could you did you see on twitter anything else other than sunny styles after yeah i know like
01:58everything i was like everybody is reporting on this right now and i know the dude is good we've
02:03already watched him i had expectations that that was going to be the case but according to like all of
02:09these things just the level of athlete kevin that was at the combine this year is different than it's
02:15been in the past and i wonder and i don't know if you guys have a hypotheses uh on why
02:21this could
02:21be is it just the the the general nature of evolution and that the fastest and strongest will
02:29meet and breed uh and make babies that are faster and stronger or is it because of the training that
02:35these these some of these athletes get at an even younger age than ever before and they are primed for
02:41see i think it's the the technology because i keep thinking about the discussion about this is
02:48going to sound weird i keep thinking about the discussion about the 49ers injury issues in that
02:52substation right because one of the things i believe it was george kittle that said like you spend so so
03:00much time seeing how i can get two percent better three percent better five percent better and he was
03:05like it works the opposite direction as well like you have to be able to look and see is this
03:11making
03:12me five percent worse or even one percent worse so i think it's the advanced technology and training
03:18regimens that allows you to pick up what would otherwise seem like an inconsequential .05 but when you drop
03:26it into the 40 you're like holy smokes that person is fast that's how fast that shefter would tell you
03:31carnell tate ran anyway but when you actually earn the .05 off on the official time man that's pretty
03:38good oh man by the way a couple things uh one they are waiting on evo to finish up some
03:43work
03:44okay i have some questions regarding our 130 and if we need to adjust that maybe for tomorrow but that's
03:49an off-air thing for another time okay uh another thing kevin mickey spagnola texted me oh and he said
03:55i see you complimented me uh today uh now for you about drafting a safety if all things were equal
04:02uh what position am i ignoring that's a good question for where we're heading with that because
04:07realistically like i i know everyone is going to be like you need this position you need this position
04:12but in the modern nfl especially with how much work needs uh done on the cowboys roster
04:17another question is like you said which position are you ignoring because i would love it for somebody
04:23who was like why can't we sign uh kyler as a backup he's never lost at at&t stadium you
04:28know what rock
04:28on if kyler murray wants to sign here for two million dollars you're damn right i would sign him but
04:33like
04:33that's the issue that's not going to happen and you're going to have to skimp somewhere yeah and for
04:39me this is a very delicate balance of free agency and draft yes and so if i if i do
04:45one thing in free
04:46agency does that mean that i have to do nothing in in draft no at that position no it doesn't
04:51mean that i can
04:52still add players to that spot but i do have a limited amount of resources so what i'm trying
04:57to figure out and obviously the cowboys are doing the same and we're trying to help them figure it
05:01out is we're trying to figure out are they investing in linebackers uh in free agency are they going to
05:07make a make a trade for an edge are they going to be able to pick one up are they
05:11going to bring one
05:12back and then they can use their draft picks for safeties if that's the case then let's go with it
05:17there's some good ones there there's some really talented edge rushers also in this draft so it is
05:22that delicate balance of finding the right linebackers and the right safeties and the right
05:27group together well and then you were about to say cornerbacks too i think if you told me we were
05:31going to double dip at all three of those positions in terms of signing somebody and drafting somebody
05:36would anybody have an issue with that no no not at all uh the other the other and so mickey
05:41we love
05:42you man uh the other thing is uh a lot of people kevin talking about the arm length of one
05:50reuben
05:50bain man is and so just real quick because i know you're going to get to the story this is
05:57the most
05:58fascinating part of the process to me it's not the speed it's not this and that it's when you get
06:04into
06:04the nitty-gritty of like the hand size especially when it comes to teams that are going to play in
06:09the
06:09cold or you get to the arm length and i get why that's important and that's how you have to
06:13project
06:14at the next level but it's always weird too when you're like i don't know man i saw him play
06:18against
06:18the best teams in college football and he was kicking some ass so feels like he'll be okay here's
06:24a note no edge rusher over the last 20 years has been picked in the first round with arms as
06:32short as
06:32baines well that's about to change one nfl scout told the athletic that he'll be shocked if that
06:39doesn't change so just like you just said there he said bane is too explosive violent and powerful
06:45and his first step burst is good enough to help overcome his lack of length on the edge
06:50i quote i love that kid he's just different and i mean in a good way and obviously you know
06:57like you're
06:57going to use everything you can when you start talking measurables to start tweaking and making
07:02people fear you know but you watch that guy play and your only thought is how do i put him
07:07on my team
07:08as quickly as possible so that we can go get uh and remember again when we were having discussions
07:13with mickey late in the season last year he was like i don't know people are talking about this dude
07:17going one two three like he could be there and now kevin i see after the draft or after the
07:22combine
07:23he's all over the map and so alec i ask this question to you now if reuben bain is sitting
07:30there oh my you better say yes how quickly do you get the card turned in as somebody who has
07:38dealt
07:38with the conversation about you know maybe being on the shorter end i would say i don't care i really
07:44don't like everything that you said from that scout that quote is so true this is the ultimate trust
07:51the tape player watch him play he is destructive he is athletic he can be a game wrecker and i
08:00think
08:00he can be that at the pro level i don't care about the arm length everything that i saw said
08:06this is
08:07one of the best pure power rushers in this class take him if he's there
08:12higher
08:12you
