00:00We did get the breaking news earlier this morning that Justin Fields is going to be traded.
00:05Have we gotten compensation on that yet?
00:06A six-round pick.
00:07Six-round pick.
00:08And that makes it for next year.
00:09So that makes it now 10 picks that the Jets have in the 2027 draft.
00:15Okay.
00:15Three of them are first-round picks.
00:16Yeah, they need them.
00:19And they'll probably use them ineffectively.
00:21They'll get a good player and then waste their potential like they have with most players.
00:25I hope Aaron Glenn's group doesn't do that, but we saw how tough it was for them last year.
00:30So hopefully they'll be able to use that.
00:32Hopefully they don't want to get in the way of the Cowboys and their draft strategy, though.
00:36We have been pushing real hard when it comes to what the first round is.
00:40We've been trying to make sure we have the first round locked down to really understand
00:44if there's a player that's drafted in that first round in the 12 or 20 picks,
00:49was it the right player for the Cowboys?
00:51And obviously what they're doing is they're true fit looking.
00:54When it came to free agency, I think the additions that they made are all specifically true fit guys.
01:01They didn't go out of bounds to get a player that was expensive, in my mind, because he's a good
01:08player.
01:08They were like, does it fit us?
01:10Now, Crosby, completely different deal.
01:12That dude fits every system.
01:14He'll be your system at that position.
01:17They didn't get it the first time around, and now here they are not trying to panic to go make
01:21a move like that either.
01:22I'm waiting patiently where they are on that, but both sides pretty much seem to say we're done there.
01:28But when it comes to 12 and 20, we want to make sure – because look at Jalen Thompson.
01:33Perfect fit for this defense.
01:35P.J. Locke completely understands this defense because he's played with the defensive coordinator before.
01:41So he has a great conversation there.
01:44Should be some very open conversations.
01:46I think Rashawn Gary is a right fit for the position that they're going to ask him to play.
01:50He can slide down into that 4-3 left defensive end, but also play some outside linebacker for you.
01:55So he's going to have a lot of different names and ways to go about it.
01:59Joseph Hoyt posted over the weekend his Dallas Cowboys mock draft.
02:05Round 1 at 12, Mansoor Delane.
02:10And I keep seeing other people putting Jermaud McCoy up there.
02:14I think I've just done the I am trading back even if it's McCoy.
02:19Are you in that place too?
02:21Or are you like, no, the talent's just too much even though he hasn't played for a year?
02:25I'm in that place for multiple reasons.
02:27One, I just don't want to take a hurt player that's not going to work out at the Combine
02:31and not really doing too much to instill any faith in that.
02:35Two, Jerry said it himself, no redshirt years.
02:37We can't afford that this year.
02:39We need guys that can play.
02:41So I think that he's not even a wipeout situation for me.
02:45He's a stay away.
02:46So yeah, I would be moving back if that was the case.
02:49The interesting part that he did here was he made a trade at No. 20,
02:55which this is becoming more fascinating to me as we get closer to the draft.
03:02I was talking with a buddy over the weekend and he was like,
03:04I'd much rather trade 20 than 12.
03:07I said, I understand that.
03:09But you might be at a position at 12 where the best player is an offensive tackle.
03:14And are you willing to take somebody below that that probably isn't going to be the best player just because
03:21you're at 12?
03:22Or would you rather try to get the value out of 12?
03:26So this is going to be the dilemma is what value do I want the most?
03:30Because if there are certain players that if they're at 12, we're taking them no matter what.
03:33We've made our list.
03:35But at 20, I can be talked into a lot of things too.
03:38So he trades down to 27, trades with San Francisco, which allows him to pick up either C.J. Allen
03:45or Jacob Rodriguez.
03:48Now, my hope, my desire, my dream is to get C.J. Allen with that 20 pick, which if I
03:56need to trade down and get it, that's fine.
03:58And my hope and dream is that somehow they're able to swing a second-round pick and go get Jacob
04:03Rodriguez.
04:04If you put those two in your middle linebacker spots and just said, go, good luck, guys,
04:09and you got DeMarvion Overshone out there as well, your linebacking group has now solidified with young talent for the
04:15future.
04:16Jacob Rodriguez is a fantastic playmaker, so I love it.
04:19Now, with that 58th pick that they get from San Francisco in the second round, he went with Keontae Scott
04:26out of Miami.
04:27So he said either Rodriguez or Allen at 27, but we're going to get a defensive end, Keontae Scott, out
04:35of Miami.
04:36And this is a dude right there that he's a playmaker.
04:39He got the big stage too, had his opportunity to play big on that stage,
04:45and he thinks he can fit Parker's system as well.
04:50I like it.
04:51Or defensive back. I'm sorry, I don't know. Did that say defensive end?
04:53I thought that maybe.
04:55But you are in need.
04:57You are in need of secondary still.
05:00You're still short.
05:01I know you got Delane, but even at that point,
05:05you're still hoping that you can add a little bit more to your cornerback system.
05:08I really do like the, one, I like the idea of moving back off of 20,
05:13because I understand what you were telling your buddy, and that totally could happen.
05:19I just, I bounce back and forth between what scenario I think is actually going to play out.
05:24And here lately, I've been thinking that 20 is going to wipe you out before 12 is going to.
05:29I don't know why, I just feel like those eight picks in between,
05:35in the middle of the first round, there's going to be a run of defensive talent
05:38that you're going to be like, oh no.
05:40Yeah, no, and I see that.
05:42So I like Joe's idea here of moving back off of 20 to get that extra pick,
05:47because I think Scott might be one of the better, you just mentioned the term, true fit.
05:53If you want a true fit defensive back for this team,
05:56Keontae Scott might be one of those guys on that list where he is a true fit.
06:00And for more than just on the field stuff, he is a vocal, vocal leader.
06:07And this guy, if you're trying to change, I know people hate the word at this point,
06:12if you're trying to change the culture on defense, this is the kind of guy that you do it,
06:17because he might be a DB, but he loves to tackle.
06:21He loves to tackle, and he loves doing it the right way.
06:2413 tackles for a loss last season.
06:27He's very quick, twitchy, but he's got his flaws because he is going to be a day two guy.
06:32He's not going to be perfect, but you could ask him to play a few different spots as well.
06:36He could play the nickel, and I think he could start at the nickel for a lot of teams.
06:41He's got that level of talent and leadership.
06:43I just like the idea of moving off of 20 in general at this point,
06:47but what you do with that pick and the extra capital, up to them.
06:52But you need a linebacker.
06:54You still need more corners.
06:55My dream would be some combination of C.J. Allen and Scott or Jacob Rodriguez and Scott
07:02as Joe Hoyt put together in this mock draft, but I think that's the most likely scenario.
07:08As I sit here today, more things can shift and change.
07:12Maybe other teams make other trades to address needs,
07:15and maybe your needs look a little bit easier to get at 12 and or 20.
07:20But right here today, I think 20, you could be sitting there like,
07:23oh, we should probably move off of this pick because there's going to be a team
07:26that needs an offensive tackle or something at 20, and they can't afford to wait.
07:30One of the guys that I saw on this list also, I will ask our Texas Tech expert,
07:36Romello Height.
07:37Would you be good with an edge at Romello Height, Jacob?
07:41Absolutely.
07:42He's a really solid player.
07:43He definitely got some of the David Bailey treatment in a sense of like,
07:49he wasn't the guy you circled when you went against the Texas Tech defense.
07:52He's really good.
07:53He's a really fast edge rusher.
07:55Like kind of David Bailey's that big, strong, but he's also fast and athletic.
07:59Romello Height's kind of more of the lengthy speed rusher, I guess you would say,
08:04without as good of pass rushing moves.
08:06But he was productive.
08:07He had double-digit sacks last year for the Red Raiders,
08:09and I think he could definitely develop.
08:12I think he was a three-time transfer.
08:15He came to Tech from Georgia Tech, so he's a big Tech fan.
08:19But yeah, he'd be a great option later in the rounds for sure.
08:22All right.
08:22I love that.
08:23I love those ideas.
08:24Some other names on there we'll discuss throughout the week as well,
08:26but that is a little bit of draft talk as we get closer and closer.
08:31We'll be your home for Dallas Cowboys draft right here on 105.3 The Fan.
