A 15 year-old girl in Tobago was severely beaten by eight girls, following a football match in Mason Hall and left unconscious in a drain.

Her father says he intends to press charges in the matter. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00Two of them hit me and then one of them roughed me and started to beat me.
00:08Okay, you were beaten by how many girls?
00:12Approximately eight.
00:13The incident occurred last Saturday at a football field in Mason Hall, Tobago, shortly before 10 p.m.
00:20Speaking with TV6 News, her father Dexter Trim said he was worried his daughter would die.
00:27To see my child in the hospital, unconscious, I felt like the world just collapsed on me.
00:37And I just want justice to be done with them children and them that end up doing what they did to my daughter.
00:47Mr. Trim told the TV6 News he intends to press charges in the matter.
00:52He spoke to us outside the Scarborough Police Station.
00:56I am going all the way.
00:59I am not pulling back because them girls, when they did what they did to my daughter, they went home and sleep.
01:05My daughter in the hospital, unconscious.
01:10Very unconscious.
01:12And I am not going to take that.
01:15And they also said interest, they're going to get her in the schools.
01:18And they have girls from Comprey going to get her and this and that and the other.
01:22Now, we went to Mariah.
01:25Mariah refused to take the case.
01:27He said he was initially disappointed with the police service in Tobago.
01:32My understanding is that there was police on the compound when this was happening.
01:38I questioned why the police didn't intervene in what's happening.
01:44The officer told me, well, there was a breaking in a car where somebody stole a car battery out of the car and they was investigating that.
01:57Ms. Williams, my daughter's life was in jeopardy but the police stole a car battery.
02:02He told us he still believes in the justice system of the country.
