00:01Any prospects you think really move up the cowboy board or move down after the workouts?
00:09As a ball-knower, I would say that the one that I'm concerned with is...
00:15I've heard them. I'm just not going to react to it.
00:18I've heard the two references.
00:19I know you did. You tried to just blow by it, so I was going to shoehorn another one in
00:23there.
00:23I'm going to make sure Schottenheimer doesn't get base power so he lives in the dark for an entire weekend.
00:29Talking seam, right? That's baseball.
00:31Oh, dude, I heard it used by Barstool this week.
00:35Somebody said, you don't know seam.
00:37What about golf? Talking dimples?
00:39Yeah.
00:40Talking tea?
00:40Yeah, dimples.
00:41Talking tea?
00:42Yeah, like spilling tea.
00:44Talking ice?
00:45Talking puck?
00:46Talking puck.
00:47It'd be puck, ball.
00:48But see, ball gets used for basketball and football now.
00:52What's the little ball, the little damper on the racket called?
00:56Is it called a damper?
00:57That little thing?
00:58Oh, it controls like the...
01:00The vibration?
01:01Yeah.
01:01Whatever that thing's called.
01:02You could do a talking test, do that.
01:04Talking damper?
01:04And curling, you could do talking stone.
01:07Talking broom?
01:08Let's talk prospects.
01:09Ah, let's talk...
01:09The big one, the one that has shifted the most probably, just because it was...
01:15And he was a top prospect before, but in terms of just, all right, here's confirmation,
01:19and now it feels like he's officially tested out of your range as Sonny Stiles.
01:23And so, Sonny Stiles, who's been talked about a lot with the Cowboys, you got to think, this
01:27is a guy who's played his first two years at Ohio State as a safety, and then moved to
01:32linebacker.
01:33He is a six foot four and a half, 240 pound safety skill set, like he can cover, who also
01:43ran 4-4-5, jumped 43 and a half inches, had an 11-3 broad jump, all the testing was
01:50just
01:50ridiculous out of this world.
01:53And he's somebody who gets a ton of...
01:56And his brother ran a 4-2-8.
01:58Yeah, his brother's even faster.
02:00And the thing is that when you look at Sonny Stiles, he gets a ton of credit also for just
02:05natural leadership.
02:06Oh, he's a natural leader, and he checks that box in a big way.
02:09He just turned 21 a couple months ago, too.
02:12So, you're talking about really young, huge upside.
02:16That's why, to me, the guy that, if you want to just talk about path, trajectory, the way
02:22that he plays the position, and the way that his going from safety to linebacker and everything
02:28else, the guy that he's most similar to over the course of his career is Erlacher.
02:31And so, that's going to be somebody who now, I think, firmly is probably inside the top
02:3610, which sucks, is that he's kind of blown them away and confirmed everything that
02:42people kind of thought, which was that he was somebody who's going to go in the top
02:4610.
02:46Another one that I think is important to note is, and we've talked about him a little
02:49bit, Dylan Thienemann from Oregon, who was a guy that...
02:53Brugler brought him up first.
02:55Yeah.
02:55So, you had a lot of people that said that he was thought of as being kind of like a
02:59mid-second round guy.
03:00Well, he started kind of picking up a little bit more momentum, and people are like,
03:03all right, well, could he be early second?
03:05Could he sneak into the late first?
03:08Daniel Jeremiah this week started talking about him going 18 to Minnesota, so he may
03:12not even last to your second pick if you're Dallas.
03:15But then when he goes out there and he runs a 4-3-5 in the 40 as a safety,
03:21it's like,
03:21okay, all right, the athlete we thought we saw on tape, you're that dude.
03:26And so, I think those are two that really stand out of guys who really kind of moved their
03:30stock a little bit, or solidified, all right, we belong in this discussion.
03:35All right, the rest of our combine notebook.
03:38We had five questions that we were asking before we left.
03:39We did the first two at the beginning of the Expressway.
03:41The next one was, who are they taking official visits with?
03:44Because you can't listen to the informal visits.
03:48It's more about the formals and the 30 visits that come out.
03:51Hasn't been a lot of chatter yet about 30 visits, national visits that the Cowboys are
03:55taking, so the only thing you have is formals.
03:57And did we learn the answer to that?
03:59And the answer is no, we didn't.
04:01We didn't learn the answer because the agents have gotten savvy.
04:04As we were talking about this a little bit with Shoddy before we went on the air.
04:07Why don't they want the info out?
04:09No, they do want the info out, even if it's not true.
04:13Oh.
04:14So, as Archer was saying, Archer was talking to me about this off the air.
04:17He's like, I think these agents have just started coaching these kids on,
04:20do you have a form with that team?
04:21Uh-huh.
04:22Yep.
04:22Just say yep.
04:23Oh.
04:24Just say yes.
04:24Hype up the interest more.
04:26Teams aren't going to circle back and correct you.
04:28Just yes.
04:28Yeah, I did.
04:29You had formals with everybody.
04:32And so, sure enough, you get 45 formal visits.
04:36I think Nick Harris talked about two days, like they were just two days into interviews,
04:41still had most of the positions to go, and they had already counted 48 people who had
04:45said they had formals with the Cowboys.
04:47And so it's like, all right, well, this is clearly not correct.
04:50Everybody was, yep, formal with them.
04:52Yep, had a form with them.
04:53Had a form with them.
04:54Made sure to call that out.
04:55Now, I will say this, though.
04:57Talking to some people and confirming actual formals that they had, there is one position
05:04that it's like, to me, slam dunk, I think, high up the priority list, they're going to
05:10draft.
05:11And I think they are going to draft a corner.
05:13I think one of those two picks is going to be a corner.
05:17Are you clapping for that, like, over the end?
05:21I should clarify, too.
05:22Are you just clapping because it's a desperate position of need?
05:25Well, it's a desperate position of need.
05:27You're not rooting for corner over...
05:30I would say corner.
05:32Honestly, I mean, if it's available, I could use it on both my picks.
05:36If they draft a safety with one of those two picks, I think it's still going to be a corner
05:40-type
05:40player.
05:41So, it's going to be Downs from Ohio State or Dylan Thienemann from Oregon.
05:45It's somebody they plan on playing inside at the nickel as well.
05:48And so, I mean, we heard Christian Parker talk last week about the nickel position and how,
05:54hey, that used to be kind of the misfit position.
05:57Now that's, like, that's your 12th starter, basically.
05:59And then it's become a key piece of what we want to do.
06:02But I don't know whether this is...
06:04Would you not take a corner at 12th?
06:05Yeah, I would.
06:06I just didn't know if you were, like, set on...
06:08You've made up your mind on corner over the end.
06:09I think corner's a more pressing need for this team.
06:14A press corner?
06:15Yeah.
06:17I don't think they have any.
06:18Would you rather sign, if I told you you could have...
06:22If I told you you could have what a lot of people think is the top corner in the draft,
06:26Mansoor Delane.
06:28Or you...
06:28So you get Mansoor Delane and you've signed Trey Hendrickson.
06:31Yeah.
06:32Or you've signed Jalen Watson, the top corner from the Chiefs, and then you end up drafting
06:37at 12, Reuben Bain.
06:38Would you rather have the high upside, younger edge rusher or the high upside, younger corner?
06:44Oh, man.
06:46Can you tell me what I'm drafting at 20?
06:49Like, can I get the safety at 20?
06:54Or is that too rich?
06:54No, see, that's the problem.
06:55The drop, eight spots, creates...
06:58It creates too much chaos to where you really don't know what's going to be there.
07:01And what is my...
07:02What is my goal?
07:03Am I this win now, Jerry draft pick thing?
07:06What's your goal?
07:07That's the thing.
07:08What is your goal?
07:11Who's higher on your board between Bain and Delane?
07:14I like Delane more.
07:15Most people like Bain more.
07:18I would...
07:19Damn.
07:20You saw Broadus ready to strangle me over Bain last week.
07:23I know.
07:23He falls in love with some players and it becomes like you're talking about his child.
07:26He gets angry.
07:27Yeah.
07:28If you're like...
07:28I'm not a fan.
07:29How do you talk about my kid when I'm right here?
07:30Yeah.
07:31I don't know.
07:32I don't have a strong preference.
07:34That's why I kind of like it.
07:36It's like in fantasy when you have the number two pick.
07:38You want the decision made for you.
07:40Absolutely.
07:40But the idea of high upside young edge or high upside young corner?
07:44Corner.
07:45Okay.
07:46So, and I...
07:46If I were to guess right now, I think...
07:49But I'm more scared of corner hitting than D'End.
07:52Yeah.
07:53That's what's giving me my...
07:54Like, I'm still scarred by Mo.
07:57I'm scarred by Diggs now.
07:59I'm getting scarred by Bland.
08:01I think with corner, it's like, okay, give me the safe high floor guy.
08:05I mean, Diggs hit.
08:06Diggs did hit, but it was just...
08:07It reversed on him.
08:08If I had four high floor corners, low ceiling, high floor, I feel really comfortable with it.
08:15Does it make you feel any different knowing that that's Christian Parker's specialty?
08:18Like, hey, he's a DB guy.
08:20Yeah.
08:21It makes me feel a little better.
08:22Because they've historically gone with front seven type coaches.
08:25Is this a smear campaign on Downs?
08:29I'm not even going to read the Twitter account.
08:30I hope so.
08:31Let them drop.
08:32Yeah.
08:32It's not anyone, like, real.
08:34They went and bought their blue check.
08:37Maybe they're trying to get Downs to the Giants, but you tell me if the numbers sound like they're
08:41bad, Bobby.
08:4330 and a quarter inch arms are really bad.
08:4673 inch wingspan is really bad.
08:49Sub six foot tall.
08:50I told you when I was watching Downs on YouTube, I'm not ever going to say the tape.
08:54Yeah.
08:54The tape.
08:55When I was watching them on YouTube, I'm like, he doesn't look that big.
08:58And then poses zero standout athletic traits and duck the combine.
09:02Those things don't do well for Caleb Downs' stock.
09:05My Bucks guy said, he said, you'd be surprised that he's not that big.
09:12He's not a big guy.
09:13How about all those measurables?
09:15Yeah.
09:15That's small.
09:17Like, I mean, if he had arms under 31 inches, that's not great.
09:22Generally, you want 31 as the baseline.
09:25I wonder what ours are.
09:26We didn't do a...
09:26He said, I can guarantee you might not end up being...
09:28Does the arms take the end of the hands?
09:30Yeah.
09:31It does.
09:31But where does it start?
09:32Does it start at the...
09:33It starts at that little joint there from your shoulder.
09:37They start there, and then they measure down to, I think, the middle finger.
09:42Yeah, it's...
09:42Well, I can show you that right now.
09:44Yeah, see it right there.
09:46So, if you look at it, they've got...
09:49He's on the smaller end, but if you look at...
09:52Somebody pointed this out from Kent Lee Platt had written down that if you look at the measurements
09:58alone, not the athleticism because the athleticism is different, but if you look at the measurements
10:02alone, he basically checked in at the same size, height, weight as Eric Berry did.
10:08So, Eric Berry was 5'11 1⁄2", basically, 211 pounds.
10:13Caleb Downs was 5'11 1⁄2", 206.
10:15The only problem is you also had 32 in charms on Eric Berry, and there's under 31.
10:20I mean, it's barely above 30 with Caleb Downs.
10:23All right, the rest of the combine questions we had.
10:24How aggressive are they in re-signing Jadavion Clowney?
10:27Not very.
10:28That was probably the biggest thing we learned.
10:31Breaks on.
10:32Out there was just that they...
10:34And I didn't know...
10:35I didn't want to scare him off,
10:37but that was one of the things that I was wondering if, like,
10:39should we even, like, mention Clowney to Parker?
10:42Yeah, we screwed that up.
10:42I thought about that this weekend.
10:44That's my big regret.
10:45The whole thing is that, like...
10:46We should have just flat out said, is Clowney a fit for your defense?
10:49He was just rolling with Broadus, and we were trying to get his personality out there.
10:53But we should have asked that.
10:55Yeah, they're not very aggressive at all.
10:57That has completely flipped.
10:58It makes sense to me.
11:00Yeah, it does.
11:01But don't also say, just get us good football players.
11:05Like...
11:05Sure.
11:06No.
11:06You had one.
11:06You had one in the building.
11:07It's the caveat.
11:08Get us good football players that fit our scheme.
11:10Mm-hmm.
11:11Yeah.
11:11Okay?
11:12Because Davon Clowney is a good football player.
11:14Yeah.
11:15And he, right now, is your best defensive end.
11:18And their little, like, technicality to probably work around on that is like,
11:23yeah, but he's not good in coverage.
11:25So he's not a good football player based on what I think good football players look like.
11:29Yeah, but then Schottenheimer goes to the podium and goes,
11:32huh, if they're good enough, you're not dropping them back in coverage that often.
11:36Yeah.
11:37You know what I mean?
11:37You want to play forward.
11:38Yeah.
11:38That's the whole idea of it.
11:40So that is clearly, I would say that it's...
11:43Like, TJ, while Micah Parsons here with Christian Parker is what, like, give me a great defensive
11:50end in the league.
11:51Like, Miles Garrett, we evaluate how much he's going to drop.
11:56Right.
11:56Now, obviously, Clowney is not Garrett, but...
11:59Yeah, there's probably a little bit more...
12:01Who would they tighten the screws to for their rule versus saying, screw the rule.
12:06Coaches love their rules.
12:07And Rob Ryan even dropped to Marcus Ware occasionally.
12:10And then the final one was who's on the trading block around the league.
12:14Because we were talking about, like, Max Crosby, A.J. Brown.
12:18I think the sense, the surprise ones that are out there, or the ones that are not those
12:23two primary, I do think Minka Fitzpatrick is going to get traded, is what it sounds like.
12:27The one name I heard mentioned last week a little bit, talking to some people that surprised
12:31me, and I didn't know that this was a little bit of...
12:35was DK Metcalf could get traded.
12:38Really?
12:38Which is really fast on the Pittsburgh front.
12:41But Metcalf could be a guy who's on the move.
12:43All right.
12:44Bobby Bell with his combine notebook.
