In a tragic road accident reported from Tumakuru district, an auto-rickshaw driver lost his life after applying sudden brakes to avoid hitting a monkey that was crossing the road.
The incident occurred near Jampenahalli village in Koratagere. The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Kumar, a resident of Sompura. He was travelling from Koratagere towards Tumakuru when the accident took place.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police findings, a monkey suddenly darted across the road. In an attempt to save the animal, Mahendra Kumar applied sudden brakes, causing the auto-rickshaw to lose balance and overturn.
Moments later, an Innova car approaching from the Tumakuru side rammed into the overturned auto. The collision impact was severe, leaving Mahendra Kumar critically injured.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead despite efforts to save him.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events, including vehicle speed and road visibility conditions. Statements of the car driver and eyewitnesses are being recorded.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise heightened caution on rural roads, particularly in areas prone to sudden animal crossings, to prevent similar tragedies.
