00:00Joe, I know this week is a lot of people's passion, and they say, you know what, ooh, the combine
00:03is here.
00:04I like to start with our NFL news and notes and say, this is the dumbest week of the year
00:09every single year.
00:11And sometimes I laugh to myself and say, I don't know what these guys, almost like a free getaway for
00:15the boys.
00:15Like, hey, we're going to fly in the Indy, we're going to have some delicious shrimp cocktails with some spicy
00:19sauce at, you know, St. Elmo's Steakhouse,
00:21and then we'll just spend a lot of time hanging out and we'll just be right from our families and
00:25we'll enjoy it.
00:26Because to me, all of your work should be done prior to this.
00:30And if it takes, you know what, I didn't like this guy, Joe, at first, but boy, I saw him
00:35without his shirt off for that picture,
00:37and I was like, wow, he needs to be my superstar defensive tackle.
00:40Nonsense here, Joe.
00:42I can't stand combine week.
00:43How do you feel about combine week?
00:46Listen, it's a spectacle.
00:49That's all it truly is, Donnie.
00:51It's a spectacle.
00:52Like, oh, it's for the NFL to stay top of mind, you know, awareness.
00:57You're not out of sight, out of mind.
00:59Everybody's going to be interested.
01:01You know, you're measuring dudes' hands.
01:03Like, I mean, what are we, you know?
01:05And maybe the best part, Donnie, I guess, is really some of the questions, I guess,
01:10sometimes that, you know, these GMs and these guys get to ask some of these players,
01:14which are so over the top.
01:16But, yeah, to me, this is all pageantry.
01:18That's all this is all about for the NFL.
01:21If you don't know who you're drafting at this point in the game, Donnie,
01:25on who your wish list is, I don't know what you're going to see at the combine
01:29that is going to change your mind to be like, oh, boy, were we wrong about him.
01:35And also, you're going to get the account, sweetheart.
01:37Like, hey, man, I got my eye on this guy that's supposed to go in the sixth round.
01:40Yeah, we'll never hear about that guy ever again.
01:42Or, oh, I was really surprised at his three-cone drill at this point.
01:45I'm telling you, it just drives me nuts.
01:47And I always say if I owned an NFL team, I would ban my entire organization
01:51from going to the combine because it doesn't matter.
01:54You have all the tape you need.
01:55You have all the intel already.
01:56Whether or not the guy has a quick three-cone drill,
01:59that's why you're going to draft him over somebody else.
02:01Stop the madness, people.
02:02I'll tell you what some of the madness is.
02:04Kyle Pitts of the Falcons, he's going to get the franchise tag.
02:07They've been trying to run that guy out of Atlanta for a decade.
02:09And now you say, whoa, new coach in town.
02:11We actually like this Pitts guy.
02:14Yeah, well, I mean, he's been, let's face it, ever since he's been with Atlanta,
02:19he's either been underutilized and nobody's ever really, we know the talent is there, right?
02:26The guy's an absolute freak.
02:28But he just never really had the quarterback situation correct, the coaching situation.
02:33And, you know, maybe this new group here with Savansky and company feels like,
02:39yeah, this could be his, you know, his make or break and bust out year,
02:43and they're willing to franchise him.
02:45The richest ownership group basically in the NFL,
02:47should I say the most expensive team in the NFL is the Dallas Cowboys.
02:50But for some reason, the Dallas Cowboys have no idea how the salary cap actually works.
02:54And pay the guys sooner when you think they're going to be star players,
02:57save money on the cap, which means, Joe,
02:58you can spend more money on great free agent players if you need them.
03:01So it's no surprise whatsoever that Steven Jones goes,
03:05hey, George Pickens is really good.
03:07Let's slap that tag on him here and really tie up a monster part of our cap space here.
03:12Congratulations.
03:13Let's see what happens because the one thing I do know is we're not hearing on players
03:17like, you know, PCN baseball, like George, hey, man,
03:19just happy to be a Dallas Cowboy, man.
03:21We'll get this thing worked out when it's worked out.
03:23George Pickens, play hardball with this guy.
03:25He will shut it down faster than you can count to three, Joe.
03:29All right, listen, Dallas knows all this time.
03:32They always know what they're doing with these guys.
03:35It's amazing that we, it feels like every year, Donnie,
03:38we're having the same conversation about what are you waiting for?
03:42What's going on?
03:43We just watched it with Micah Parsons.
03:45We saw it with Dak Prescott.
03:47Go back to Zika.
03:48I mean, it feels like we're doing this with Dallas every year here.
03:53And they drag it out to the point where it's like, oh, my goodness.
03:57In the meantime, it feels like a total distraction.
04:00And just keep talking about the Dallas Cowboys, good or bad.
04:03I think that's all Jerry wants at this point.
04:06Yeah, well, wait, let's have the highest paid quarterback,
04:08the highest paid wide receiver.
04:09Oh, yeah, the other highest paid wide receiver,
04:11Dallas, always knows how to manage a salary cap.
04:13Not, maybe that's why they haven't won a Super Bowl since the last time,
04:17basically, the Stanley Cup has been in Canada.
04:19Here, the Chiefs making some moves.
04:21Mike Dana, he's cut, cleared $8.9 million in cap space now.
04:24And that's fresh off of one pen stroke, clearing $40-plus million in cap space
04:29for the Chiefs here with the Patrick Mahomes deal.
04:31Chiefs looking to reload, getting a little bit extra money here
04:34as they release the veteran defensive end.
04:36Listen, there are organizations, Donnie, that you have to figure are going to
04:43maneuver and get the most out of what they have, right?
04:47They are going to position themselves, as long as they have Patrick Mahomes
04:51and an ability with Andy Reid to be able to run it back.
04:55I trust this organization to make the right moves to free up enough money
05:00across the board to keep it going here.
05:03We watched New England do it for how many decades there, Donnie?
05:07Same thing here with Andy Reid and Kansas City in Mahomes.
05:11Everybody thinks that Tyreek Hill is going to head back to Kansas City,
05:13but Kansas City is doing the old, eh, we'll keep tabs on Tyreek Hill
05:17to see if he can work his way back.
05:19Why? Because he had a devastating injury, and he's now into his 30s,
05:22and his whole game is built on speed, Joe.
05:25Keep those tabs going.
05:27Yeah, I mean, like, I don't understand.
05:30Like, there was a, he posted something on Instagram with a Chief jersey,
05:34and all of a sudden, everyone's like, oh, he's going back to the Chiefs.
05:36Like, we don't even know when he's going to be ready to play, Donnie,
05:40and what he is going to be like when he comes back.
05:44Anybody who thinks you're going to get a 25-year-old Tyreek Hill after this?
05:48No, if he's a step slower, Donnie, you know what he is?
05:51He's just like everybody else, and you know what that means?
05:54He's a dime a dozen.
05:57Hey, DJ, keep playing that song, Keep Me Dancing.
05:59Where? Well, could be dancing in Indianapolis.
06:01Which, DJ? That's Daniel Jones.
06:04Discussions have been on a multi-year contract extension here.
06:07Hey, I don't know if I like this deal, but then again,
06:09it might be better than pulling guys off their couch to play quarterback for you, huh?
06:14I mean, listen, you've got a quarterback.
06:17The hardest thing in the world to have in the NFL is a quarterback.
06:20You literally had to go and get Phillip Rivers off the couch
06:24in order to play quarterback for you.
06:26So, you know, if you got one in the building like Danny Dimes,
06:30then you lock him up for the foreseeable future here,
06:34and at least you'll be competitive here for the next couple of years.
06:38You need a quarterback, and coaching matters.
06:40And apparently that combo, Donnie, works.
06:44Donald Trump once had a book called The Art of the Deal.
06:46Chicago is following exactly what they're supposed to be doing.
06:49Have two states fight.
06:51The only team that wins, it's the Chicago Bears.
06:53Bears continue to work on their Illinois stadium amongst a push by Indiana.
06:57Bears CEO Kevin Warren told Crane Chicago,
06:59we will continue to work with Illinois leadership
07:01and appreciate the progress being made,
07:03which means until that press conference happens,
07:05they are going to stay in Chicago.
07:06You knew it was real in Kansas City
07:08when they came out like, peace out, Kansas City.
07:11We're going to another state.
07:12That's when you know it's official.
07:15That's, yeah, right.
07:16And we're still a little ways away,
07:18but I still think it's great how you've got one state
07:21rolling out the red carpet,
07:23willing to sign and do and pass whatever laws they need
07:26in order to get them a new stadium,
07:28and you've got the original city going like,
07:32well, I don't understand what's happening here.
07:33Like, why do you want to leave?
07:35Because they're literally willing to take them,
07:38and you're not willing to fight for them.
07:40So, either way, the Bears win.
07:43Either way, the Bears do win here.
07:44How about this one?
07:45There's no talk this year of changing the playoff seating
07:47to remove the guaranteed home game for division winners.
07:50That will be back on the table when the season expands to 18 games.
07:53Good.
07:53I like tradition.
07:54Win your division.
07:55Get a home game.
07:56I don't care what the record is, Joe.
07:58Yeah, I hate this, Donnie.
08:00Like, I can't have the, you know, I can't have the Carolina Panthers
08:05having a home game.
08:06Like, no, I can't.
08:08Yes, you can.
08:08It's awful.
08:09It's awful on so many levels.
08:11Like, everything should be reseeded all the time,
08:14as far as I'm concerned.
08:15Like, otherwise, what good does it do to win 12, 13 games,
08:19and everyone has a wild card game?
08:22Like, what?
08:22I mean, I won 12 games, and I got to travel across the –
08:25no, no, no, no, no.
08:27Makes no sense.
08:28I'll tell you what's up here.
08:30You know, you're protecting the fans, right?
08:31And so that's what the Packers are doing.
08:32Hear about this story from the Packers.
08:34You'll get a laugh out of this one.
08:35The Packers say they'll continue to crack down on season ticket holders
08:37who regularly sell.
08:39And we'll get to that in a second.
08:41Those who repeatedly sell – or resale, I should say –
08:43whether on the secondary market or through ticket brokers directly
08:45may have the renewals ability impacted by further warning.
08:48Number one, you sold those tickets to Packers fans,
08:51to conglomerates, whoever it is.
08:53That's all you should care about.
08:54The fact that they care about who you're actually selling it to
08:56just reminds me of this.
08:58Oh, looks like you've had your things in your family for 30 years.
09:01You sold a couple games.
09:02I can sell them at five times the amount to a new person
09:06if I rip your season tickets away.
09:07This doesn't have anything to do with the fans.
09:09This is the Packers winning control over the tickets
09:11to sell them for even more, Joe.
09:13Ridiculous that the NFL has to do this.
09:15The Packers sell it every game.
09:16What are you bitching?
09:17I'm owning it for a Packers ownership.
09:19Get out of my face.
09:20Well, we'll be right back.
09:21To which Kurt comes on the show next.
09:23Having fun on a Tuesday morning on the early line.
09:25Two guys buried in snow.
09:27One guy down in South Florida.
09:28It's Donnie Wright's out of show.
09:29It's welcoming George Kurtz here.
09:31It's time to heat it up.
09:32You might need help out there.
09:33Snow plowing, Joe.
09:35Or George, I need that as well.
09:36Joe's out there on the beach.
09:37Not too fair at this point here.
09:38So thank you for joining us today.
09:40More snow could be on the way from what I hear for you.
09:42Let's enjoy the time while we got it, George.
09:45Absolutely.
09:46So the calm before the storm here in two different ways.
09:49The NHL season begins again tomorrow here.
09:51Looking forward to that.
09:52But we've still got spring training baseball going on.
09:55So I guess I can think warm thoughts.
09:57Yeah, we need those warm thoughts here.
09:59WBC right into the regular season and away it goes.
10:01But also, maybe some warm thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys.
10:04You just told you yesterday, we're slapping that tag on George Pickens at wide receiver.
10:08Which means we expect him to play for Dallas next year.
10:11The Dallas Cowboys coming in with a team total.
10:13George sitting at eight and a half.
10:15Your prospects for those Dallas Cowboys next year.
10:17What are they?
10:19Well, I think if you could bet this now, I mean, we don't know what they're going to
10:22do with their defense, right?
10:23The offense wasn't the problem, right?
10:25And Pickens, as you said, he's not going anywhere.
10:27Although, I don't know if we're going to see him for a while, guys.
10:29How he's going to accept that franchise tag.
10:32Does he not show up until July 15th?
10:34You know, when there's nothing else that can happen anymore.
10:36So that should be interesting to say the least.
10:38He's been a volatile wide receiver throughout his career.
10:40So we'll see what happens there.
10:42But I imagine he will not be happy about this tag.
10:45But the defense is still a mess, right?
10:46Yeah, great.
10:47You got Pickens.
10:47You got Javante Willard.
10:48It's fantastic.
10:49Obviously, it wasn't the problem.
10:50The defense was a disaster.
10:52I'm at the point now as a Cowboy fan that I assume that everything that Jerry Jones does
10:57is wrong.
10:58All right?
10:58So I don't know what he's going to do with the two first-round picks.
11:00They say they might trade one.
11:02Great.
11:02Who are you trading for?
11:03All right?
11:04Max Crosby will cost you more than one first-round pick.
11:07So until I see something happen with that defense, and there's many things that need to
11:11happen here.
11:11I mean, let's face it, guys.
11:13Logan Wilson, you give a seventh-round pick for it, you're just released.
11:16He played, like, 22 snaps last year.
11:18Great move, guys.
11:19Jonathan Mingo, remember that trade, fourth-round pick?
11:22He's probably going to be released as well.
11:23Great trade, guys.
11:24I just assume things aren't going to work out for Dallas.
11:26Right now, I can't touch that.
11:28I just can't.
11:29I would leave it alone.
11:31Did you like the Javante Williams signing there by Dallas?
11:35I mean, it's a reasonable, what, $24 million, I think he signed for?
11:39I mean, it feels like a reasonable price to keep at least the offensive side pretty much
11:44intact.
11:44Lead running back, quarterback, lead wide receiver.
11:47No?
11:47Well, I didn't dislike it, and this has nothing to do with the Jerry Jones comment before.
11:54Javante Williams, nice running back.
11:56He's the 16th highest-paid running back in the NFL right now, so it seems about right.
12:00You imagine $24 million, $16 million guaranteed.
12:02So it seems about right, but I also wonder this.
12:05Did any defense care about the running game for Dallas last year?
12:09No.
12:09You cared about stopping Dak.
12:11You cared about stopping CeeDee Lamb.
12:13You cared about stopping George Pickens.
12:14You know, the running back was an afterthought there, so I don't want to say any back could
12:19have done what he did, but I wonder if any back could have done what he did.
12:22So maybe you should worry about other things.
12:24As long as that money doesn't stop Jerry from signing defensive players, other players that
12:30they do need, I don't have an issue with it.
12:32It's a three-year contract.
12:33It's not the longest contract on the planet there, but it wasn't their biggest area of
12:38need, but they did, I guess, sign someone they had to sign here, and now we're hearing
12:41they're having problems signing Brandon Albury.
12:44Okay, I mean, how hard can it be?
12:46He has to be the highest paid kicker, guys.
12:48They don't make a ton of money as far as NFL is concerned here.
12:51How hard can this be to get done?
