00:00Giants GM Joe Shane just fired back at the reports that he was demoted and that his role has changed
00:06since the Giants hired new senior vice president of football operations, Don Aponte.
00:12He also said it with his chest, I'm still the GM of this football team.
00:17It's the three teams that she's worked with before.
00:19She's been on health and safety committees.
00:21She's been in charge of the salary cap negotiations in the past.
00:24So her skill set is going to help us across the entire football organization.
00:28So, you know, a really good hire, a really good ad for the New York Giants that I'm fired up
00:33about.
00:34Who will direct the conversations about contracts with agents or free agents?
00:40Are you running those meetings?
00:41Is Don running those?
00:42Are you doing that collaboratively?
00:43Yeah, and Pat, I'm still the general manager of the team and my role has not changed.
00:47I'm still tasked with leading the entire football operation.
00:51And we're going to work in collaboration like most good teams do.
00:56And, you know, it's going to be a collaborative effort.
00:58Everybody's going to have their role.
00:59But there's constant communication between Don, Coach Harbaugh, myself, in terms of how we're going to build the football operation
01:05and then how we're going to execute, you know, the draft, trades, free agency, contract signings, coaching staff, whatever it
01:12may be.
01:13You know, we're going to work in collaboration together.
01:15We're aligned in that.
01:16And, you know, it's been going really good so far.
01:18Just to go back into what he was talking about, him having to say that I'm still the GM of
01:24this football team.
01:25I think you have to look at those reports.
01:27You have to address those reports with common sense like he's doing right now, like he did when he said
01:33that.
01:33Because if you bring in a John Harbaugh, you bring in the big fish, you give this man $100 million.
01:40You flew private jets for him.
01:42Eli got involved.
01:43Tom Coughlin got involved.
01:44This man has the key to everything.
01:47Everyone now gets demoted, per se, and doesn't have to be so hands-on with anything and everything out there
01:56because that's the $100 million person's job now.
02:01Everybody reports to the $100 million.
02:04So if you're Joe Shane, it's kind of a win-win situation for you, in my opinion, because now, all
02:09right, I get to focus on the scoutie.
02:12I get to focus on the GM side of things.
02:15Donna Ponte will work on the football operations of things, kind of like Kevin Abrams did for two decades or
02:22so.
02:22And now she will report directly to Harbaugh, the $100 million guy.
02:26So now you've got this kind of this triangle of football operations where people can, you can do what your
02:33LinkedIn profile says you were hired to do.
02:36I mean, if you're Joe Shane, again, look at it.
02:38He talked about his working dynamic or chemistry with John Harbaugh so far.
02:45John Harbaugh doesn't keep you unless he likes the roster or some of the talent that you've acquired on this
02:54team that he can now step in and win right away.
02:57This is why he picks the Giants over the Tennessee Titans, over the Atlanta Falcons, because of the roster or
03:04the talent or some of the key pieces that Joe Shane has already acquired.
03:10So I think we need to re, I guess we need to re-shift the narrative or the energy when
03:16he says that when we report on Joe Shane being demoted.
03:20Everybody has been demoted through those lens because the $100 million man is in the building.
