00:00Brian Dable just took questions from the media.
00:04They're out there on the practice field right now.
00:06So that means myself, Brendan London, and Paul Schwartz
00:09going to hang out with you guys for a little Blue Rush.
00:13Not postgame, but I guess practice report.
00:15We're going to stickly stick to what everyone in New York
00:20and I guess national football media is talking about
00:22the whole Russell Wilson-Jackson dart situation.
00:25Brian Dable spoke in coaches' language.
00:28Coaches speak today about Jackson dart, Russell Wilson.
00:32Paul, I guess you start first.
00:33What is your biggest takeaways from what he said about
00:36Russ still being QB1 and grooming Jackson dart?
00:40Right. I mean, the order's the same.
00:42Russell Wilson's number one, Jackson dart's number two,
00:44Jameis Winston's number three.
00:45So that's status quo.
00:46Something we have to ask every week, right?
00:48Just because it's kind of a new dynamic going on now.
00:51And yeah, it's interesting.
00:52You know, Brian Dable didn't want to talk about,
00:53not didn't want to, just didn't talk a lot about Russell Wilson.
00:56It really wasn't asked a lot about Russell Wilson.
00:58I asked him about, you know, did Russ handle the pressure well last week?
01:02And he said, look, that last week is over.
01:04We're moving on to this week.
01:05We all have to be better with a lot of things.
01:07So I would say it was probably 85-15, the talk 85% about Jackson dart
01:14and how they're getting him ready to play and very little about Russell Wilson,
01:17which is just interesting because, you know,
01:20we know there's a lot of interest in Jackson dart,
01:23but Brian Dable can kind of shut it down if he just says, look, guys,
01:27Russ is the starter.
01:28Jackson is the backup.
01:29And, you know, let's just talk about the Cowboys,
01:32not about the backup quarterback.
01:33But Brian Dable has no problem talking in great detail about how he is
01:37preparing Jackson dart this process.
01:40He runs the scout team.
01:42You know, I mean, you probably did a lot of scout team stuff, right?
01:45Who was the best scout team receiver you ever had to be?
01:47Randy Moss, twice, Patriots, week 18 and for the Super Bowl.
01:53All right, all right.
01:54And they did well against them.
01:56Absolutely.
01:56I got them ready.
01:57I earned that check.
01:58You did a good job being like Randy Moss-ish, right?
02:02Ish, ish, ish.
02:03You wrote an article, but we'll get it.
02:06I remember that.
02:06Yes.
02:07There's the Randy Moss.
02:08Yes.
02:09You have it cut out somewhere?
02:10No, you have it.
02:10Absolutely.
02:11I'm going to get you to sign it.
02:12There you go.
02:13Get Randy Moss to sign it.
02:14It'll be worth more money.
02:15But, so he runs the scout team, so he kind of is running what Dak Prescott will do against
02:20the Giants.
02:21Those are meaningful snaps.
02:22And then Brian Dable said after practice, he spends a lot of time after practice going
02:27through scripts.
02:28Basically, okay, if you're the starter, here's the script of what we're going to use in the
02:31game.
02:32He spends a lot of time.
02:34He's throwing after the game.
02:35So, you know, Brian Dable does not mind detailing step-by-step how they're grooming this guy
02:40to play.
02:42Sooner or later, I think it's, you know, if this keeps up.
02:45From what we saw in Washington, it's going to be sooner because he's telling you we're
02:48getting him ready to play.
02:50Yeah, and it's not a secret at all, especially when you got Joe Shane had said that they like
02:55where Jackson Dart is in terms of his development.
02:59And one thing that Brian Dable said is he's meeting every checkpoint.
03:03He's getting to every checkpoint.
03:04So, they asked about, like, what was it like for Jackson Dart to sit and watch and have his,
03:09you know, this first game.
03:10And he was talking about, well, he had to have his first game.
03:12He was very involved in terms of hearing the communications, the plays that are being called,
03:18and just all the communications when the offense comes off the field.
03:22And, you know, you sit at the bench and they're talking about what they saw, what went wrong,
03:26or what they could do better.
03:27So, you hear that.
03:29And you just start to wonder on when that time can be.
03:33And, again, it's Russell Wilson's job right now.
03:36Russell Wilson can hold off all chatter with a strong performance against the Dallas Cowboys.
03:42That's just NFL football.
03:44Someone's always trying to take your job.
03:46But when you have a guy that you traded up for and has looked so good up to this point,
03:52you have to be wondering, at least wondering, oh, Will, would Jackson have gotten out of that broken down pocket?
04:00Would Jackson have made that throw?
04:02And it's unfortunate that we're here at this point going into week two.
04:07But at the end of the day, you can't blame the rookie for putting and showing some good things on tape
04:13to where the regime that drafted you traded up to go get you in the first round is excited and likes where you are at this point.
04:20Look, but let's not put the cart before the horse here.
04:23Jackson Dart, if he comes in the game, is not going to do anything if three running backs total 30 yards in a game.
04:29Okay?
04:30You know, if you can't run the ball at all, Jackson Dart at second and eight and third and seven is not going to succeed
04:36because no quarterbacks, you know, very few quarterbacks are going to succeed.
04:40You know, Russell Wilson was hit eight times.
04:44You know, could Jackson Dart have run around for some of those?
04:46Maybe.
04:46But that was a losing performance on offense all around.
04:50Russell Wilson didn't rise to the occasion, but nobody else around him did.
04:54Look, one thing else about Jackson.
04:56You know, the Giants told you they think he's ready to play now by making him the number two quarterback.
05:01Right?
05:02A number two quarterback has to be ready to play at a moment's notice.
05:05So in the first game of the season, he was the number two quarterback.
05:08If something happened to Russell Wilson, Jackson Dart is on the field.
05:12And they're not saying, oh, Jackson was on the field, but we didn't think he was ready to play.
05:15No, they're saying this rookie was ready to play.
05:18If he wasn't ready to play in their eyes, Jameis Winston would have been the backup.
05:21It's as easy, simple as that.
05:23So how does Russell Wilson kind of stave off the rookie?
05:27Play better and have the team play better around him and, you know, heaven forbid, actually win a game in Dallas where they never win.
05:34So if they can do that, if they win a game in Dallas, unless it's 3-0, no one's going to be talking for Jackson Dart, okay?
05:42And, you know, that's where they are right now because I'm glad you brought that point up about, all right, getting him ready to play.
05:49They're, again, they have been 100% transparent about their getting this guy ready to play, but they haven't said they're getting him ready to be QB1.
06:00And he's just ready.
06:01If anything were to happen, this kid has gotten, as he said, he's gotten first-team reps in practice.
06:06We're grooming him.
06:08He's taking mental reps off to the side when the first team is up there.
06:12We're getting him ready to play.
06:14So it's one of those things where you don't want to throw this guy in there and then he'd not be able to be on the same page as everyone else that's gone through the spring, installs throughout the spring, throughout training camp, and the preseason.
06:26But, again, it's just unfortunate that we're here right now.
06:31I don't think we expected to be talking about this much about the QB battle.
06:36Final thought, Paul, before practice wraps up and we head into the locker room.
06:39Well, one other thing, Andrew Thomas, look, we talked about Russ not having a lot of protection, not having a lot of help.
06:44Andrew Thomas can be, you know, he can put on his cape and provide that help.
06:48Did not practice on Wednesday.
06:50Brian Dable said that's part of the plan the trainers put together.
06:53The hope is to get him on the field Thursday and Friday.
06:56Wednesday he was going to run.
06:57Run hard, see how he feels, do some other things.
07:00Thursday practice, hopefully.
07:02Friday practice, hopefully.
07:03And then if all systems go, then maybe he can actually play in the game on Sunday in Dallas.
07:09They need him badly.
07:10They need, you know, James Hudson was not great in his first game for the Giants.
07:13The whole offensive line needs him badly.
07:16So we'll see.
07:17You know, if he can play, he'll play because they need him.
07:19All right, you guys lock in with this Thursday.
07:21We have the latest and newest, freshest episode of Blue Rush where we're going to break down the Dallas Cowboys matchup a little bit more.
07:29We're going to go inside, get ready for player media availability, talk to some of the players.
07:34We'll get some of those interviews up on the New York Post Sports website and YouTube as well.
