00:00This brings us to Joe Shane, okay?
00:02And I've got some news for you on Joe Shane.
00:04I don't know if this is going to make you happy,
00:05or it's going to make the fans happy, or not.
00:08But Joe Shane will, as this is according to John Mara,
00:12he will lead the search for a new head coach.
00:15Ian Rappaport has just reported this.
00:17He will remain in his position as general manager,
00:19will lead the search for a new head coach.
00:21Joe Mara said this, and I'm going to read you this quote here, Adriana.
00:24We feel like Joe has assembled a good young nucleus of talent,
00:27and we look forward to its development.
00:28Unfortunately, the results over the past three years
00:31have not been what any of us want.
00:33We take full responsibility for those results
00:36and look forward to the kind of success our fans expect.
00:41How do you react to the news that Joe Shane
00:43will lead the search for the next head coach,
00:47despite your lack of confidence in it?
00:50And also, do you think that is the right move
00:53for the Giants here to pair Joe Shane
00:55with whoever will be the next head coach of the franchise?
01:00I'm not surprised, because I kind of figured
01:03that they were going to do that.
01:04And I think that's why there's been articles
01:07and different things.
01:08It happened last year, and it's happened this year so far.
01:12Basically, to prepare the fan base
01:14that we'll fire the coaching staff,
01:16but we're keeping the GM.
01:17In my opinion, it's not the right move.
01:20I don't like the idea of forcing a head coach onto a GM.
01:25And I think with Gable and Shane, it was,
01:27OK, well, they have experience.
01:28They've worked together.
01:29They have a good relationship.
01:30They're coming in at the same time.
01:32And while I don't think you have to say,
01:34well, if they don't get along anymore,
01:36then you have to fire them both,
01:37I think it's more of the fact that we've
01:42seen different versions of Joe Shane.
01:45And I think if you watch Hard Knocks,
01:46and I don't know how other GMs or other people
01:49in the league feel about him, but I think
01:52he rubbed some people the wrong way
01:53with what we saw on Hard Knocks.
01:55And that's what concerns me, that you could say,
01:57well, they have Jackson Dart, Malik Neighbors,
01:59and Dexter Lawrence, and yada, yada.
02:00And they have this talent.
02:01And, you know, they just need a good coach.
02:07And that will be enough to bring in a good head coach.
02:09But they're still going to have to work
02:10very closely with Joe Shane.
02:12And I think there have been a lot of bad
02:14roster decisions that have gone on in this
02:17organization since Joe Shane has been GM.
02:19And we can talk about one as easily as the fact
02:22that they repeatedly tell us over and over
02:24that they play players based on their talent
02:29and abilities, not where they were drafted
02:32or how much money they make.
02:33But that's not true.
02:34Because Russell Wilson is quarterback two of this team.
02:37And we have seen when he has come into the game
02:40that the head coach doesn't let him throw the ball,
02:42which was exactly what happened with Tommy DeVito
02:44a couple years ago.
02:46And the one thing I want to see Kafka do
02:48is make James Winston quarterback one,
02:50because I know we're not seeing Jackson Dart on Sunday.
02:52And it's decisions like that.
02:54It's the fact that, you know, last week,
02:56Lil' Jordan Humphrey, who spent all summer
02:59practicing with Jackson Dart,
03:00and they had a great rapport.
03:02You instead elevate Ray Ray McLeod,
03:04who came out of nowhere and has barely practiced
03:06with them.
03:07Gunnar Olszewski is stepping in as your wide receiver
03:09instead of Amir Smith-Marset,
03:11who got a ton of snaps this whole summer
03:13with Jackson Dart and James Winston.
03:15It's things like that.
03:16It's keeping Evan Neal on this football team
03:19when he's useless and inactive nine out of 10 weeks.
03:22Jalen Hyatt is active on Sunday,
03:24doesn't play a single snap.
03:25But, you know, they traded up for him.
03:30So he has to stay here.
03:32So I don't like a lot of the roster moves
03:33that have been made.
03:34So you haven't liked a lot of the roster moves
03:36with Shane.
03:37And I gleaned from you saying all that, Adriana,
03:40that if you had it your way, right,
03:42and you were John Mara,
03:44you would have given Joe Shane the boot today as well, too,
03:48or at least at the end of the season?
03:49Is that, you would have just gone and cleaned house
03:52and went in a completely new GM and new coach, correct?
03:57Yes.
03:57The reason why is this is because I like Brandon Brown,
04:00who's the assistant GM.
04:02But the biggest question that I have about Brandon Brown,
04:05because he has reiterated some of the same sentiment
04:07as Joe Shane,
04:08is would he make any roster moves differently
04:11throughout the season?
04:12And that's what I would want to know
04:13if he was promoted to GM for the next seven weeks.
04:16Would we see a little Jordan Humphrey elevation?
04:20Would we see Evan Neal cut?
04:21Would Jalen Hyatt have been traded?
04:23Would Taye Banks have been traded?
04:25Because it was reported that the Colts reached out
04:27to the Giants about Taye Banks,
04:29and he's still on this roster,
04:31and he's not a very good football player for the Giants.
04:33So that's what I would wonder is,
04:36would anything change if Brandon Brown was the GM
04:39for the rest of the season?
04:41Yeah, it's interesting,
04:42because even when I was talking to Mike Vicarra before you,
04:44we know that the Giants have always wanted stability, right?
04:47They don't really want to be making all these changes
04:49to coaches or with the GM.
04:51And I thought maybe,
04:53just maybe,
04:54John Mara might say,
04:55all right,
04:56we're going to wait this out.
04:57The seat's a little bit hot for Joe Shane.
04:59And, you know,
05:00maybe there's a little fire around him.
05:02We'll make a decision at the end of the season.
05:03I think the fact that this comes out now
05:05is very interesting,
05:07following the firing of Dayball,
05:08that John Mara came out,
05:09has a statement,
05:10and has said,
05:11hey,
05:12this guy's going to be with us.
05:13He's going to hire the new head coach.
05:15Now,
05:16that's done.
05:17He's going to hire the new head coach.
05:19We get all that.
05:20How long of a rope should Joe Shane get?
05:23Is the real next question to me, right?
05:25Is it just next season?
05:26They're not,
05:27he's not going to,
05:28you know,
05:28let's say whoever the new head coach is,
05:30just to spitball out here.
05:32Let's say he starts next season.
05:33I'm not wishing this on you,
05:34Adriana,
05:35the West of the Giants fan base.
05:36But let's say he starts,
05:38let's say the coach starts the season 0-5.
05:40Are we then blaming Joe Shane for hiring the wrong coach?
05:43And like,
05:44is the rope fair for Joe Shane?
05:46Does he deserve that?
05:47I mean,
05:47deserve has nothing to do with it,
05:48as I like to say sometimes.
05:49But how much of a rope are they going to give Joe Shane?
05:52And is that a concern?
05:53Is that part of the reason of what you're saying,
05:55why sometimes you just want to cut date
05:57and have,
05:58you know,
05:59new GM,
05:59new coach,
06:00whole new regime come in?
06:02I just,
06:03I don't know.
06:04it's not really a question kind of thing,
06:06trying to figure this out out loud.
06:07I don't know if that's necessarily the right move.
06:10And I can understand where some fans are going to criticize that.
06:15So I guess this is what I'll say.
06:17And to ask you as a question of what you think as a fan,
06:20what do you think you need to see from Joe Shane in the next,
06:25I don't want to say the year,
06:27just through the off season.
06:29Let's just go through that through the off season.
06:30So go through the off season towards the NFL draft.
06:32He absolutely needs to hit again,
06:34but what do you need to see from him for you to say,
06:37okay,
06:37the seat's no longer hot for Mr.
06:39Joe Shane.
06:41That's a good question because,
06:43you know,
06:43like you said,
06:44the draft and free agency are going to be really important.
06:47The thing that I'm worried about now is that you're giving another year
06:51to a GM and free agency spending.
06:54Now it's not,
06:55I always joke.
06:56It's not my money.
06:57I don't care about the cap.
06:58Like you guys figured out who kept paid to do it.
07:01But there are certain guys that I would resign and certain guys that I would
07:04not resign.
07:05And I hope if Joe,
07:08this is what I want to see.
07:09I want to see him resign some of the key players that have played well.
07:12That means Micah McFadden,
07:13Daniel Bellinger,
07:15Cordell Flott,
07:16Jermaine Illuminor,
07:17keep some of the good talent in house because we have seven draft picks and we
07:21don't have a third round pick this year because we traded it for dart.
07:23So we have to focus on retaining good talent and not being afraid to trade
07:30players just because they are Joe Shane draft picks.
07:33If he traded Taye Banks,
07:35if he cuts Evan Neal,
07:36if he trades or cuts Jalen Hyatt,
07:39if he can cut ties with some of the players that he has specifically picked
07:44who are not playing well,
07:45who are not a part of this football team and are not contributing,
07:48that would make me feel like,
07:50okay,
07:51maybe he's willing to do something different this year.
07:54And I've said that.
07:55I think he's learned a little bit from his mistakes.
07:57He learned that not resigning Xavier McKinney was a problem.
08:00And he learned it the hard way because then he had to go sign Javon
08:03Hollins and he had to draft Tyler Newbin.
08:05So,
08:06you know,
08:06I think he's learned in some respects,
08:08but to me,
08:09that would be really important.
08:11Like,
08:11okay,
08:11he's not just saying,
08:12well,
08:12this is my guy.
08:13I drafted him.
08:14We have to keep it.
08:15Yeah,
08:16no,
08:16I,
08:17that,
08:17that is interesting.
08:18We did have a poll in the chat asking people if they thought
08:21keeping Joe Shane on was the right move.
08:2386% of the people have said no.
08:25So a lot of people are not team Joe Shane right now at,
08:30at all whatsoever.
