00:00What kind of coach do the Giants need to stop this coaching carousel
00:03that we've seen over the last decade plus?
00:07A good one.
00:09Yes, that would help, Mike.
00:10A good one.
00:10That would help.
00:11See, here's the thing.
00:12People want to say, well, get an experienced coach.
00:14Get an experienced coach.
00:15Guess what?
00:15When Bill Parcells was hired, that was his first head coaching job
00:18in the NFL.
00:19That's a good point.
00:20Everybody who's been hired was hired for the first time.
00:23You know, sometimes that's Tom Landry,
00:24and you wind up coaching for 35 years.
00:27And sometimes it's Joe Judge, and you wind up, you know,
00:29coaching competently for maybe three games.
00:34Look, if it was easy, everybody would hire a good coach.
00:37And that's the thing.
00:38Everything about Shane and Dave will scream that this was a great
00:42and inspired choice.
00:44And let's not forget that in their first year,
00:46what ultimately might doom them is that they were so far above expectation.
00:51They were 9-6-1.
00:52They made the playoffs.
00:54They won a playoff game.
00:56I mean, they were so far ahead.
00:57I mean, if the Giants had started that first year 2-14
01:00and then progressed, I mean, things might have been different.
01:04I mean, look, I mean, we're not talking about three bad years in a row,
01:07and it's hard for any coach to survive that.
01:09But, you know, you add into the fact, the mix here,
01:12that they both had such early speed.
01:14And, you know, Dable's first game as a coach,
01:16he was treated like a savior because he went for two
01:19at the very end of a game in Tennessee.
01:21Remember that?
01:22That seems like about –
01:23I remember that, yeah.
01:23That was only three years ago.
01:25And, you know, that's the nature of it.
01:27So, there's a question.
01:28I mean, look, if there was one guy I could say hire, I mean, yeah,
01:32I'd love to say that.
01:33But I'm not that smart because I don't think a lot of people are that smart.
01:37Sometimes you've got to get lucky and hire the right guy.
01:40Who thought Bill Belichick was the right guy after his turn year in Cleveland
01:43and his first year in New England?
01:45Nobody did.
01:46You know, look what happened there.
01:47I mean, so these things are just – they're hard to predict.
01:50I mean, obviously, you know, if you hire an established coach
01:53like Denver did, you know, with Sean Payton,
01:56you have an idea that they're going to know what they're doing.
01:59But there's no guarantee there.
02:01You know, I know that one of the hot names now is Lane Kiffin.
02:03I love Lane Kiffin.
02:04I think he's a terrific coach.
02:05I think he belongs – he needs to stay in Ole Miss because he's got a kingdom there.
02:10And that includes all the other great, you know, big-time programs
02:13that are going to be begging for him to come over the next couple of weeks
02:16in addition to whatever pro offers you might have.
02:19But, you know, let's not forget, Lane Kiffin didn't exactly set the world on fire
02:23his first time in the NFL either.
02:24That was a long time ago.
02:26But you never have any – you just never have any guarantees.
02:29I know people want to say, don't hire a coordinator this time.
02:31Who knows?
02:32Maybe you're going to hire a great coordinator.
02:34You know, Andy Reid was a coordinator once.
02:36It's true.
02:37He worked out okay.
02:38Okay.
