Transcript
00:00Je suis maintenant avec Philippe Moyer, qui est Global VP AI Business & Solutions Ă  Google Cloud.
00:07Let's talk about AI business et ses transformations.
00:10First of all, what is your role at Google Cloud?
00:12Thanks very much for having me today.
00:14You know, in my role, I get an opportunity to, I'm part of the engineering teams,
00:17and I get an opportunity to work with the largest customers in their adoption of AI
00:21and the use of our products.
00:25And what do you hear from customers?
00:27Like, what do they fear right now, what do they praise?
00:30I have been thrilled with the companies here at Vivitech, as well as throughout France
00:36and all of Europe, about how excited they are about AI.
00:40I think most organizations look at this as a really significant opportunity, an opportunity
00:45to add a lot of value to their customer service processes, you know, to the information they
00:50follow, but they also have concerns.
00:52They're concerned around things like security of their data.
00:55They don't want to make models smarter by training on their information.
00:58They're worried about accuracy of the information inside of those models.
01:02And is the model giving the right answer?
01:04They're worried about openness.
01:06They want to be able to use the right model for the right job and ensure that they're not
01:09overrunning costs.
01:10And the last thing is they really want to be able to get started quickly with the skills
01:14they have and manage this at scale with the skills they have.
01:18Absolutely.
01:18We have the impression that we've been talking about AI for only the past few months, but
01:23it's actually been here for years.
01:25It just seems to be at scale now.
01:27Yeah.
01:28I have to tell you, artificial intelligence, we've been working on some of these problems
01:31in computer science for decades, and I mean decades.
01:35Wow.
01:36And a lot of AI has been built that's very purpose-built.
01:40We've been doing things like parsing dictionaries in the past to understand meaning.
01:44We've been listening in and trying to interpret and predict what questions people are going
01:50to ask in AI.
01:51And this generation is truly different.
01:53It's extraordinary.
01:55Back in 2017, Google was one of the proud inventors of the transformer algorithm that really kicked
02:00a lot of this technology off.
02:01And every step of the way, we have over 3,000 researchers in AI.
02:06Going back well beyond 2017, we produced over 7,000 papers in that time period.
02:13And AI right now, there's many forms of artificial intelligence.
02:16This form is truly extraordinary in that it not only understands language, but it can actually
02:21project language and project images.
02:24And so yes, it's been around for a while.
02:26It's coming of age and it's becoming more approachable than it's ever been for humans.
02:29How do you see your business transforming now that AI is leading and taking center stage?
02:36You know, I would tell you that so many organizations were focused on trying to migrate applications
02:41into the cloud.
02:42They think that's still important.
02:44The reason why they were doing that, it was it gave them agility to be able to adopt the
02:47best technology for the best job.
02:49As opposed to having to build up large infrastructure for this.
02:52AI has moved to the center of every single conversation we're having.
02:57Because you can get results so much faster.
02:59I mean, I can spend literally a few days in training a model to get a result.
03:03I can spend a few weeks to get an application into production.
03:06And that impact has far reaching impact in my organization, in serving customers, in filling
03:12out roles that were hard to fill in the past.
03:15And so organizations are coming to Google and a lot of the AI companies to really help
03:20them with this transformation.
03:21Because it can help in the area of doing customer service, in content creation, in compliance.
03:28It helps in so many functions inside of a business.
03:30Absolutely.
03:32Final question.
03:32What are your goals?
03:33What are you looking out for here at VivaTech?
03:35You know, there is incredible innovation all around.
03:39If I think back to just one or two years ago, the letters AI didn't show up on many of
03:46the
03:47screens, on many of the boards that are inside of the center today.
03:53In almost every company I walk past, someone is talking about AI.
03:57They're talking about the innovation.
03:58It's kind of captured the imagination of everyone.
04:01So my goal here this week is actually to really, first and foremost, spend the time with the
04:05customers to tell them how our technologies transform.
04:08But it's also to learn about all the other great innovations and make sure that we're great
04:12partners of all the companies that are here at VivaTech.
04:15Yeah.
04:15It's an absolutely fascinating time.
04:17I've heard a couple of people say it's kind of like, you know, when Google first came
04:20out or the iPhone first came out, we're now at this, you know, transformative time
04:24in history.
04:25Yeah, it's happening way faster than any of the past transformations.
04:29So it's exciting.
04:30Philip, thank you so much for joining.
04:32Great conversation.
04:32The President.
04:33Thank you.
04:33Thank you.
