00:00In the context of the mode and design, you have this beautiful disco that will reflect some light.
00:07And for cause of our next guest, it's Cute Circuit, a London house created in 2004 by Francesca Rossella and
00:17Ryan Gaze.
00:19Francesca is the founder of the mode, ancient from Valentino, and together, they invented the very first brand of mode
00:27wearable in the world.
00:29Their clothes change of color, they illuminate, transmit sensations at distance,
00:35worn by no other than Katy Perry, U2, this evening.
00:41She presents you here, her innovation.
00:43We welcome Francesca Rossella.
00:49Wow, wow, wow, wow!
00:54With pleasure.
00:55Hello everyone.
00:57I'm Italian.
00:59I'm not a little French.
01:01I forgot the words.
01:03I'm going to speak in English.
01:05I hope it's okay with you.
01:10We've developed Cute Circuit for 20 years and we're doing interactive mode.
01:18And like that, with luminous clothes, which are interactive and can change with an app.
01:30Our idea is to create the technology to connect with humanity.
01:42This is some of the impact of our work over the last few years, and some it's like Time
01:50Bustin-Benson, some is like with the pop stars, and this is the last luminous robe that we
02:00developed for Laura Pausini and for the World Tour this year.
02:18There is also some sun?
02:28I'm going to sing the song.
02:36It's a robe with 10,000 micro LEDs that change with the rhythm of the song and the animations
02:49are generative.
02:50So, with the artificial intelligence, we developed a method to generate new animations in time
03:00with the song.
03:04I don't know why there's no audio.
03:09This is my favorite robe from Laura, it's the 3rd time we've worked with her.
03:16And it's the same technology that we've used for our collaboration with Chanel for the
03:24sacs luminous.
03:26And it's a technology completely smart fabric.
03:30So, there's no cables.
03:35So, there's no cables.
03:35There's no cables.
03:37It's all very soft and very comfortable.
03:42And it can also be cleaned up with the air froid.
03:49Yes?
03:53Yes?
03:53Well, the technology, it's only something functional.
03:57And it's also part of the culture, of humanity and of society.
04:03And because the technology doesn't exist in the void, it responds to our own needs.
04:10And the most profound needs are to feel connected, understood and recognized.
04:19And so, we've created the Huncher, which allows you to send an ankle at a distance.
04:27It's a march in all worlds.
04:34It's a march from Paris to New York or Tokyo to Paris.
04:40And when the other person receives it, they can feel it in their garment.
04:45So, if I touch here, my friend will feel a touch here.
04:49And sending touch over distance makes people feel good.
04:55Because when people send a calam, they feel good sensations.
05:01Their endorphins get released and people feel happier and more relaxed.
05:08So, we try to create happiness for people through wearable technology.
05:14And we also created the SoundShirt, which transforms music and sports into physical sensations.
05:23So, this technology brings the Huncher with the touch sensors.
05:30But we have a software that captures music in real time and transforms into touch data.
05:37So, a person who is sourced can go to the Philharmonie or the cinema and feel the music and feel
05:49the concert.
05:50And we use it everywhere in the world.
05:53There are venues that use the SoundShirt every day.
05:58And we have some amazing feedback from the users.
06:03But one thing that is important is that we can connect many different devices.
06:10But sometimes, connecting people is very different.
06:14Because we connect people by making them share an experience.
06:19Like a concert or something that is very visual.
06:23So, people say, oh, look at me. I want to make friends.
06:27Yeah?
06:28But sometimes, it's very difficult to feel a real connection.
06:33And all these technologies are a special use.
06:37Now, for the past three years, we've been developing something that is for every day.
06:56And, as you know, we have a lot of problems with social networks.
07:01In the Royaume-Uni, this week, there's a ban for social networks for under 16.
07:14So, how are you going to find new friends?
07:19Use an app like Instagram or TikTok.
07:24talk. And one thing that is very important is that sometimes people feel lonely. And
07:32there is a study from 2010 that the World Health Organization confirmed just this week.
07:40Actually, loneliness kills more people than cigarettes, which is really bad, almost one
07:47million people. So we want to solve two problems, connecting people to each other and making
07:53them feel connected, but also safe. Because many of these social networks, they use us
08:02as data. So they sell our data, they sell our interest, and all the big corporations can
08:10ask to not interest and just monetize them, but we can't. So we created something that
08:20is at the intersection, at everything that is happening right now. So we have some artificial
08:27intelligence that can be used for good. And then we have physical AI. And then we have
08:33a return to la vie réelle, to meeting in real life. And so I'm not just the only one saying
08:42this also, Jensen says the same thing. We want to meet people in real life. And we don't
08:48want to look at our mobile phone. As you can see, I have no mobile phone today. So I'll show
08:55you where we are now and where I hope we can go. We have music this time.
09:31We'll see you next time.
10:05So, we are in this room.
10:07Are we going to create a connection with the people around us?
10:13Like if you've been talking to the people sitting here by you and you had a really great conversation,
10:19but you didn't scan your LinkedIn QR code, how are you going to find them again?
10:24It's going to be really difficult because you want to chat and you don't want to use the phone,
10:30but then you also know that maybe you don't want to give away all your information right there and then,
10:35right?
10:36So, what can we do with technology that can help us do this?
10:41So, I'm going to give you a little example with another video.
10:46And sometimes when you start talking with your neighbor, you don't know which person is going to be really interesting
10:53and which person maybe is like, oh, I wish I had spoken with somebody else.
10:59So, I'll give you an example of what can happen if we leave our mobile phones in our pocket and
11:04we just wear a starlight.
11:06So, that's it.
11:56so for example i'm wearing this starlight right now and i think you can see it is lighting up in
12:03pink like these guys in the video so when we were to starlight we can choose some of our interests
12:10and for example i chose pink because my main interest is creative technology but they can
12:18have other colors there are four little lights so if i see someone across the room that is wearing
12:24another starlight and they have the same little color here maybe i know that their interest is
12:30similar to mine and i can go to them and i can just break the ice in a way that
12:36doesn't make me
12:37feel awkward and one of the things that i think is interesting is that like now i'm speaking here
12:43and maybe you have a better chance of remembering what i look like than what maybe my friend there
12:49looks like because i cannot see very well right now from a distance and i'm more like excited because
12:54i'm focused on speaking right and then if we meet again in two months from now we don't know where
12:59we met because maybe we don't remember exactly where we crossed path and we had an interesting
13:05conversation so with starlight we have little sensors on board that understand if we had an interesting
13:13conversation for how long we were chatting with each other and if our body started synchronizing
13:20our movement it would understand that we found a deeper connection and we want to interact again
13:27so we are not using ai to chat with a large language model we are using a small form of
13:35ai that is
13:35machine learning and is on board this little device so the device can work completely without a network
13:42so if i meet you guys and we face each other the little star lights are going to shake hands
13:49and say okay we met and then if we go back out on the network later on we can resolve
13:57the identity
13:57and figure out which people we talked with and maybe we want to meet them again but the other thing
14:03that
14:03i think is magical is that sometimes like you go travel somewhere you don't know anyone
14:11but you could find a friend of a friend that can become your really good friend
14:16so if you go today we met and tomorrow you go to new york and you're queuing for coffee nearby
14:24my best
14:24friend is going to give you a little buzz and he's going to say oh we both know francesca let's
14:31have
14:31a chat and maybe you can get coffee with someone but all of this is happening only if you want
14:36it to
14:37so we think that there is magic in daily interactions but sometimes we find wonderful
14:44people and then we'll never see them again so one of the ideas that we had was study how people
14:51interact and sometimes we are having this great conversation but then we have to get out the phone
14:56to look at the screen and find them on some other form of social media and it interrupts the flow
15:03of what we were saying and then the atmosphere gets a little bit sad so we hope that with starlight
15:11we can make people connect for real and the other great thing is that there are no likes and no
15:17followers
15:18so it only works if you meet in real life which i think is going to be an interesting so
15:24we are really early
15:25we are pre-launch and we're going to launch in a couple of months the first interaction so we're
15:31giving you a little gift at the end of the session that is a tiny starlight that you can scan
15:37and you
15:38can find out more but if you come on this journey with us i think you will find many more
15:43friends and
15:44it's going to be really fun so i'll show you what we feel in the future will be a little
15:49bit happier than where we started
16:17so
16:27so
17:28You can work with us on finding out how to make Starlight work for you.
17:34We think that there is hope for the future in which we can all be connected, share amazing experiences together,
17:42but also be less stressed, less lonely, and just make the most of meeting great humans and just connecting with
17:51them for the long run.
17:53So I hope you enjoy this presentation today and just come find us on the other socials before we get
18:02rid of them and we're all on Starlight.
18:04And just get the little gift that we're giving to you and scan it so that we can find each
18:10other again.
18:11So, merci beaucoup.
18:17Oh, wow.
18:20Wonderful.
18:21Bravo.
18:21Merci beaucoup.
18:50Hello.
18:51Thank you for your presentation.
18:53I have one question.
18:56How did you have the idea of creating something like that ?
19:00Did you feel sometimes alone and you had hard time to find people ?
19:07Yes, it's a great question.
19:10This really is like, I think, one of these founders needs first kind of products.
19:17Because literally, every time I go to a conference, I, first of all, I'm like, if I see a room
19:23full of people, sometimes I'm really shy.
19:26I'm like, once you get me talking, like now, I can roll on for two hours.
19:31But when I have to break the ice, I'm really, really shy.
19:35So, sometimes I'm just there, hoping that somebody comes to talk to me.
19:39And so, I thought, what if there was a magic something that can help me talk to someone.
19:46And the other day, I was telling about Starlight to a friend.
19:50And they were like, you know what you remind me of.
19:53You know in The Devil Wears Prada, when Miranda and Andrea go to the party.
19:58And Andrea, or Emily, is behind Miranda, and he say, this is so-and-so and his girlfriend.
20:05Basically, I sort of like, want to do the same thing with Starlight.
20:08In which, like, I meet someone that maybe I met two months ago.
20:12But I remember their face, but I cannot remember their name.
20:15And they're like, oh, C.D., great to meet you again.
20:18And it makes me feel better.
20:21It makes my friend feel better.
20:22Because it's not that I forgot about them.
20:25Sometimes we just feel too awkward or too shy to actually make our interaction.
20:31Like, if I ask someone's name, and then I don't hear it right the first time.
20:36They're like, I don't want to ask again.
20:38Because it looks like I wasn't paying attention.
20:40So, that's one of the reasons we started it.
20:43And also because sometimes when we do the other wearable products, they are very, like, sort of luxury designs.
20:51And we wanted to make a product for everyone.
20:54So, this is the least expensive product that we ever designed.
20:58And it's actually a very complex piece of deep technology.
21:02It has lots of sensors, lots of data, lots of understanding how humans interact.
21:08So, I'm really happy about it.
21:10I love it.
21:11Thank you, Francesca.
21:12Thank you so much.
21:13Thank you to you for the question.
21:15And then, I promise you, we have no time, unfortunately.
21:17But she will come to see you.
21:19One more question just after, because the time is short.
21:21Yeah, we can't stop talking.
21:23But we have no time for that.
21:24A round of applause for Francesca.
21:26Thank you so much.
21:27I can be the good for you.
21:28Good day.
21:29And friends like a little starlight.
21:30Yeah.
21:31Thank you, Francesca.
21:32Oui, wonderful.
21:34Ciao.
