00:00Former Member of Parliament and Health Minister Dr. Fouad Kahn tells the Morning Edition
00:05the concerns surrounding the police post structure at the Eddy Hart Savannah should be addressed on their merits.
00:14However, he believes the response from regional cooperation officials is being driven by political interests rather than principle.
00:37Dr. Fouad Kahn warns that some political maneuverings are designed to turn public concerns into opportunities for political advantage.
00:47The opposition has gotten a window in to make some noise.
00:53Now, the thing about it, it's surprising that the Tonopuna Regional Corporation, Piyaku Regional Corporation,
01:01has become so vociferous in the attacks against that area, that police post,
01:07that is being constructed, as they say, illegally, without approvals, etc., etc.,
01:13and they are becoming extremely aggressive against it.
01:16However, they're not looking at the big picture.
01:19They're looking at the small picture.
01:21And the big picture is the people of Trinidad and Tobago have been attacked and their security is dung
01:28and they will welcome a police post, even if it's in the back of their house.
01:32And against the backdrop of the country's growing racial tensions,
01:36Dr. Kahn says citizens should pay close attention whenever politicians begin framing national issues through race.
01:45If politicians use race or cause racial words, it's because they are distracting from something bigger.
01:54So, we will never reach any way in this country with this nonsense,
01:58because at the end of the day, when the two major races are attacking each other based on party affiliation,
02:05you are going to go nowhere.
02:09And everybody's going to laugh at us.
