00:00The new Acting Commissioner of Police, Junior Benjamin, is promising to ensure
00:04that the TTPS fulfills its purpose. This afternoon, Benjamin received his
00:09instrument of appointment from the Police Service Commission's office just
00:13off Paje Main Road in Tunapuna.
00:19Kurt Simon will now be Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, also received his
00:24instrument of appointment. Speaking with the media as they exited the building,
00:29Benjamin first thanked God for being allowed to act in this role as the
00:34country's newest top cop. However, he did acknowledge that the timing of it was
00:39troublesome.
00:59Even in this time of need, there are officers and leaders who are very much able to make a difference.
01:07Benjamin says he is committed to rebuilding the morale of the
01:10organization and explains that he will be looking at various ways to ensure
01:14that crime reduction is a priority.
01:18We want to ensure that we have a robust strategy to do true crime.
01:23And that must be something that must be a priority at this time.
01:27And therefore, we will be looking at those strategies and ensuring that even after the SOE,
01:32that we have something sustainable, that we are able to do crime once again, safer crime.
01:38He told reporters that his first order of business would be to sit down with the
01:42heads of all 10 policing divisions in the country and ensure that there is a
01:47strategic plan for the organization to fulfill its purpose.
01:52So I'll be looking at that throughout my daily, especially for this year,
01:56and ensure that I'm touching these areas so that at the end, you know,
02:00we must ensure at the end of this year that our performers will be the ones that try to do this properly.
02:05Simon, speaking briefly with the media, echoed the sentiments of the acting commissioner.
02:12The efforts must be on our hands, yes, indeed, to rebuild our trust and confidence.
02:18Simon acknowledges that the work is cut out for the current administration given
02:22recent events, and while he knows it is not an easy job,
02:26he believes that it is a task that the current administration is up to.
