00:00Could this be the fourth consecutive weekend of a snowstorm for some?
00:04Well, the answer is it could be, but I want to talk about this weekend storm that's coming.
00:11Number one, it's not a widespread snow and ice storm.
00:14There will be some snow and ice, though, especially across the northeast.
00:18And for the mid-Atlantic and the southern U.S., this is going to be a rain situation, not snow.
00:25And along the Gulf Coast, we could be looking at some gusty thunderstorms here.
00:30Now, we began with an injection of cold air.
00:33It's coming Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
00:35Remember, it's going to warm up over the next couple of days.
00:37But you notice on this graphic, you don't see a lot of pinks.
00:41You don't see a lot of purples.
00:42You see a lot of blue.
00:44That tells us this is not an Arctic air mass coming into the Midwest and northeast.
00:50And that's why we feel strongly that this is not going to be a big or a widespread snow and ice storm.
00:56But it is going to be cold enough for snow.
00:58Take a look at high temperatures.
01:00We start getting that colder air in across the lakes on Wednesday.
01:04And note the difference along the eastern seaboard by the time we get into Thursday.
01:09There it is.
01:09Temperatures back into the 30s.
01:11So it's cold enough for snow.
01:13Now, the question is, is where is this storm going to go?
01:16That will decide who gets the snow, who gets the ice, and who gets the rain.
01:19Well, there's a little rule of thumb we use here.
01:22We call it the Norm MacDonald rule, a legendary New England forecaster.
01:27And his rule says where the storm enters the United States, it exits at the same latitude days later.
01:34So with the storm coming in near San Francisco, the energy, the energy should exit the east coast somewhere north of Norfolk, Virginia.
01:43Which means along and south of the storm, that's mostly going to be rain.
01:46That's why we think it's going to be rain across the Mid-Atlantic, much of the Midwest, and the southern tier of the U.S.
01:52But snow and ice is still possible anywhere from the Midwest and especially across interior sections of the northeast.
02:01New York City and Boston, probably ice or snow going over to rain.
02:05Philadelphia on south, probably just rain.
02:08New York City and Boston
