00:01The next 12 weeks will be the toughest of your life.
00:05Lord Sugar is on the hunt for the next big thing.
00:08This is an opportunity of a lifetime.
00:12Battling for his backing, some of Britain's brightest prospects.
00:16Come on, boys. Look at that. Your life depends on it.
00:20And then hit him.
00:21It's a deal worth fighting for.
00:23I can sense a bit of friction, absolutely.
00:25Daniel, was that on you?
00:26No.
00:2720 candidates.
00:30I've never been kicked in the balls by a goat, to be honest with you.
00:3312 tough tasks.
00:35This is a complete and utter joke. Just jump straight in.
00:40One life-changing opportunity.
00:42You're fired. You're fired. You've completely messed it up. You're fired.
00:47Previously on The Apprentice.
00:56I'm sending you to Hong Kong. You have to go and find nine items.
01:02A tough first task.
01:03Ryan, come on.
01:04Go, go, go, go, go.
01:05Saw the candidates crumble.
01:07We're yet to find an item.
01:09Are we going up or down?
01:10Oh!
01:11And a dismal performance from Nicky's team.
01:14Where is the driver?
01:15We don't know.
01:16We've lost our driver.
01:17We've lost our driver.
01:18Handed Kieran's boys a hollow victory.
01:20I don't call this a win.
01:22It's a bloody disgrace.
01:24Leaving Nicky.
01:25You've only got one item.
01:27And Georgie.
01:28You leave me nowhere to go.
01:30In the firing line.
01:31You're fired.
01:32You don't know how serious this is until you're sat in front of Lord Sugar fighting for your life.
01:454.30am.
01:46Good morning.
01:48Good morning.
01:49Lord Sugar would like to meet you at the Paddington Bear Experience in central London.
01:54The cars will be outside in 20 minutes.
01:56Right.
01:58Wakey wakey everyone.
02:01Go on, talk, talk.
02:03Wakey wakey.
02:04We're off to Paddington Bear Experience in 20 minutes.
02:08Oh God.
02:09What do you think it's going to be?
02:10I think it's something to do with kids.
02:12Alright, let's go.
02:15I don't know what task this is but I'm ready for it.
02:18Let's win this.
02:19Let's beat the girls.
02:20I'm sharing first.
02:22I'm a bit concerned though.
02:24Because two of the girls have just left.
02:26We can't leave now.
02:27I do not want to be back in that boardroom.
02:29Because I will throw someone under the bus.
02:31I'm telling you now.
02:38The ladies right now, I know they're going to try and get vengeance.
02:45Mate, I don't lose.
02:47Come on!
02:53On the banks of the Thames, the Paddington Bear Experience.
03:00A place for family adventures and marmalade filled mischief.
03:08Good morning.
03:12Welcome to story time.
03:14Lawrence?
03:17Thank you, Baroness Brady.
03:20Karishma.
03:28Are you sitting comfortably?
03:30We should begin.
03:31Once upon a time, there was a very clever businessman who had a big pot of gold to share.
03:43To decide who got the gold, the clever businessman asked 20 candidates to complete a series of difficult tasks.
03:52Sure enough, a winner emerged.
03:55Someone who shone through and worthy of the gold.
03:59As for the rest of them, well, the clever businessman banished them from his boardroom.
04:05And they would never heard from again.
04:09Anyway, that's enough of that.
04:11The kids' storybook market is worth 800 million in the UK alone.
04:17So for your next task, I want you to create a story for four to six-year-olds.
04:24You'll need to produce a book and an audio version to go with it.
04:28Tomorrow, you'll be pitching to retailers.
04:30And the team that secures the most orders will be one step closer to living happily ever after.
04:39Now, ladies, you lost two of your team members in the first task.
04:44So Lord Sugar would like you to pick one of the boys to join your team.
04:53Have you made your decision?
04:55And who is it you're selecting?
04:56Levi.
04:57Levi, please join the ladies' team.
05:03All clear?
05:05All clear.
05:06Off you go.
05:09Two days to create a children's story.
05:12Thank you for picking me.
05:13I know it's not always put your hands up, so noted.
05:17Turning tall tales into sky-high sales.
05:22Kids' storybooks.
05:23Kids' storybooks.
05:24Sounds like a really fun task.
05:25Page one.
05:26We can just literally go wild.
05:27Let the inner child come out.
05:28Yeah.
05:30Pick a project manager.
05:32I personally would like to nominate myself to be PM.
05:35I've got a four-year-old child.
05:37Anyone else want to nominate themselves?
05:39I think because you've got a kid, it makes the most obvious choice as well.
05:42I would like to just add something.
05:44Yep, sure.
05:45Put my name forward.
05:46I feel like I let you boys down a little bit last week.
05:48I think I've got some great ideas which I'd like to share with the team if chosen.
05:52OK, let's take it to a vote now then.
05:54For Marcus, put your hands up.
05:56Perfect.
05:57That's sort of.
05:58Amazing.
06:00On the other team.
06:03I'd like to put myself forward.
06:05This is completely my bag.
06:07Setting out her story.
06:09I've got five children all being in that age range.
06:12Property expert Andrea.
06:14I'm a school governor, background in preschool.
06:18I mean, I have personal experience of a written book which were a giraffe and it's been a major hit.
06:23Oh, wow. Amazing.
06:24Yeah.
06:25OK, fab.
06:26Absolutely, yeah.
06:27Right, so who votes for Andrea?
06:30I think it's you then.
06:33Andrea for PM.
06:34Oh, I'm so honoured.
06:36We are going to win today.
06:37I'm so excited.
06:38Honestly, if we don't get this, you know, I'll happily be fired.
06:41If we don't win this, we've got this in the bag.
06:44Me being project manager is just about leading the team and getting to where we need to be.
06:48Yeah.
06:52Along the corridor.
06:53I've got a story idea, I think.
06:55Next for the boys.
06:56So mine is Geno Giraffe.
06:58He's on a spaceship and his whole end goal is basically to have a poo.
07:02Flash out a plot.
07:04Do we want to go through the planets until you get to Uranus and that's where he takes the poo?
07:08Oh, no.
07:09No, no, that's...
07:10OK, um...
07:11I would suggest this seeing as if someone going to space, it should be a human.
07:14We should go astro.
07:15Can I just have one more idea?
07:16Go for it here.
07:17My concept would be going off something that's already there.
07:20Gold looks and the three bears.
07:21Every room is a different...
07:22Like, this toilet's too big.
07:23This toilet's too small.
07:24Yeah.
07:25This toilet is just right.
07:26Good, good, good.
07:27I'm happy with that.
07:28Love that.
07:30The team are talking about astronauts, they're talking about toilet humour.
07:33But is it an inspirational story?
07:35Is it a spin on a fairy tale?
07:37At the moment, I've got a lot of Martians, but not a lot of meaning.
07:40Perfect, guys.
07:41So, to finalise, there's a boy called Astro, five years old, goes into space and essentially,
07:45he's trying to find the perfect toilet.
07:49Brainstorming their bestseller...
07:51I had just a quick, brief idea.
07:53The preschool children, four to six, they're going to be starting school.
07:56Project manager, Andrea.
08:00Could be a book about starting school, about them being nervous, trying to alleviate any
08:04worries and anxiety.
08:05That's just an idea.
08:07So, my idea is about a zebra that doesn't have any stripes.
08:12So, he's on a journey in the jungle and along the way he meets different animals and they
08:17end up giving him a stripe, so it's like coloured stripes.
08:20I do like that idea.
08:21Are we not using the school thing about...
08:23What is your decision?
08:24I think we need a main character, which could be a zebra.
08:27Yeah.
08:28Then we're worried about what we're going to have for the lunch.
08:30Can I just say, right now, I'm seeing it as if there's two ideas where, does the
08:34zebra do zebra-like things in a safari or do they do things that children would do in
08:38a school?
08:39They're just bringing the school into the safari.
08:40Children would go in a school.
08:41Yeah.
08:43They've got an idea about a zebra that has no stripes and he gets his stripes
08:46and then they're talking about the zebra being in a school.
08:49I think they've got a basis of an idea, but I don't think it's very well thought
08:52out at this stage.
08:53We've got those.
08:54Yeah, I think it's a great story, guys.
08:55I love it.
08:56Marshaling his main characters.
09:01Going into the story team, we have Tan, we have myself, we have Harry, we have Lawrence
09:06and we have Connor.
09:08And everyone else is on design team.
09:11Business owner, Marcus.
09:13In terms of sub-team leader, I would like to make Kieran, you be sub-team leader because
09:19you did put yourself forward earlier.
09:20Yeah, happy with that.
09:21Do you mind your rationale behind that?
09:24I mean, does he have a design agency?
09:26Are you putting yourself forward?
09:28Well, because I do have a design agency, I do a lot of branding with my own company.
09:32I do understand, Dan, however, due to timing, please, if we can just respect the decision
09:37for Kieran to be sub-team leader.
09:38Yeah, sure.
09:39If that's okay.
09:40So sorry about that.
09:42Right.
09:43Amazing.
09:44I do have a few concerns.
09:45I think with Kieran being sub-team leader, it might just be his way or no way.
09:49And he doesn't have a marketing or branding background.
09:51So I can't really see what skills Kieran's bringing to the team as being sub-team leader.
09:55Right.
09:56Let's do it, boys.
09:57Let's do it, boys.
09:58Come on.
09:59Who was the preference of going on the design team?
10:02Okay, so the rest of us would like to go on the story team.
10:05Yeah.
10:06I would like to put myself on the sub-team leader just because I have a lot of experience
10:09in illustration and design.
10:10Yeah.
10:11Okay, sub-team leader.
10:12Welcome.
10:13Right, guys.
10:14Please remember, we're a team and we're going to win it as a team, okay?
10:17We've got two.
10:18Sorry.
10:1910am.
10:22While half of each team head off to create their character.
10:26We haven't got an idea of what Marcus wants in terms of the creative.
10:30Yeah, I think we have to probably just make a bit of an educated decision on what we think.
10:34The rest will pin down a perfect plot.
10:38This isn't about creating a sales pipeline.
10:40It's about creating a sales poop line.
10:42No!
10:43No!
10:44No!
10:45No!
10:46No!
10:47No!
10:48No!
10:49No!
10:50No!
10:51No!
10:52No!
10:53No!
10:54No!
10:55No!
10:56No!
10:57No!
10:58No!
10:59No!
11:00No!
11:01No!
11:02No!
11:03No!
11:04No!
11:05No!
11:06No!
11:07No!
11:08No!
11:09No!
11:10No!
11:11No!
11:12No!
11:13No!
11:14No!
11:15No!
11:16No!

11:28No!
11:29No!
11:30No!
11:31No!
11:32No!
11:33No!
11:34No!
11:35No!
11:36No!
11:37No!
11:38No!
11:39No!
11:40No!
11:41No!
11:42No!
11:43No!
11:44So see, coisas
11:46not!
11:47No!
11:48That's scar versus...
11:50funding!
11:53A stone risusi Dame
11:54I associate it with, like, being in prison, you know.
11:56But four- and six-year-olds aren't going to know what people are in prison.
12:01Dan has told everybody he's an expert at designing,
12:04but when he's coming up with suggestions,
12:06the sub-team leader is actually shutting him down.
12:08I think he wants to get on with completing the task,
12:10rather than listening to members of his team who might be able to help him.
12:14Let's go outrageous on the colour for the flag, so what about green?
12:17I'm not sure if green might be too contrasting.
12:19Right, so can we make the flag green?
12:24Tile Yard, King's Cross.
12:27So, Astro has been travelling for a very long time.
12:30He really needs a poo-hoo.
12:32While Astro gets off to a rocketing start...
12:34Big letters down here. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, perfect.
12:38Exclamation mark. Exclamation mark.
12:40For school governor, Andrea...
12:42Right, team, you know what we're doing, you've got the brief, 20 pages.
12:45..a lesson in nailing the narrative.
12:48So, let's get on with the first page.
12:50Should we start straight away? What are we doing?
12:52We need to get into the story, don't we?
12:55I think we could start off with the child leaving home.
12:57Yeah. And then the last sentence, maybe, of each page.
13:00Would you like wear? Just keep going.
13:02Or it will be just fine.
13:03Could maybe the zebra have another friend or a sibling
13:05that's in their slightly older year?
13:07That would confuse you so much.
13:08OK. Let's come back to what we're doing again.
13:12Why don't we bring it forward?
13:13Can I just stop it there, please?
13:15Oh, we're not going to get this done.
13:16We're not talking over each other.
13:18I'm the project manager.
13:19Everybody's contents will come into this,
13:21but we can't keep interrupting,
13:22because we've got to get it down on paper.
13:25OK? Yeah.
13:27There's too many people trying to be in the limelight.
13:30That is the problem.
13:31And he's trying to pull people back
13:33because we can't finish a page, never mind a book.
13:37Let's get the story down, please.
13:38But we can't, we can't over talk, OK?
13:431.30 PM.
13:45Maybe the glasses with the big eyes,
13:46so that you can amplify his eyes and make him look extra cute.
13:49Yeah, great. Fab.
13:50So let's get our straps on.
13:53Yep.
13:53While the girls zero in on their zebra...
13:56Oh, that's very cute.
13:57Introducing Zabori, guys. What do you think?
13:59Love him? Yeah, fantastic.
14:02For Marcus's story squad...
14:04I think we should have the same line for all of them
14:06when he knocks on the door, like,
14:07Hi, Ru. Yeah.
14:08Can I do a poo in your loo?
14:10All hopes pinned on poo.
14:14Finally, he found the perfect loo to do the most amazing poo.
14:17The kids are going to start laughing at this.
14:19Yeah, my main fear right now is the lack of conclusion.
14:21Yeah. So what's the conclusion of this story?
14:22Take it out moral.
14:23I think, I think the end goal is that he's done the poo
14:26and then he's fine and he's happy.
14:28OK, that's fine. That's good enough.
14:29Yeah.
14:31I do have a fear that we have oversimplified things.
14:34We have dumbed everything down a bit more than I did want to,
14:38but that's the role of a project manager.
14:39You have to make certain decisions
14:41and it's a decision that I have to stick by.
14:43OK, perfect. Let's just make it quick.
14:44Marcus, do you have a four-year-old?
14:46Like, is this on brand or what he is?
14:48Yeah.
14:48Would he find it funny?
14:49Yeah, so he would actually find it funny.
14:53Clock ticking.
14:55Shall we get the script down
14:56and then we can jot the pictures in afterwards?
14:58For Andrea's authors...
15:00Well, it makes sense to them.
15:02Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
15:03It's unconscious of time.
15:04Zavari was struggling with his shoelaces.
15:06He forgot how to tie them.
15:07Yeah.
15:08A case of writer's block.
15:11I think we're done with that.
15:12No, we can't because we need to add the slogan,
15:14but it would be just fine.
15:16I know we're doing repetition,
15:17but do we necessarily need the repetition every single page?
15:20We're not going to get this book finished.
15:22That's what you wanted to do.
15:23Can we just stop, please?
15:25We're never going to get this story down.
15:27You don't even know what you're trying to do either.
15:29You literally have Timmons.
15:30I know.
15:30How many pages have you got?
15:32We've nearly got 12.
15:33What's that?
15:3312.
15:34Nearly got 12 pages.
15:35How many do you need?
15:3623.
15:36We just...
15:38We can...
15:38We can...
15:39Yes, but it will be just fine.
15:41We're probably putting too much words on one page,
15:43like I said.
15:44Can we just finish the book?
15:45Because we need to end the book.
15:47I know we've got to get pictures on,
15:48but we're going to have a book,
15:50a story we're now ending on.
15:52Towards the end, it was so sort of brutal, straight to the point.
15:56There was shouting.
15:57There was no sort of professionalism in the way she was delivering.
16:01And, yeah, I didn't like that.
16:03We just had to get it down on paper, really,
16:05or we wouldn't have had a sorry book.
16:06I feel like a lot of things changed from, like,
16:08what we originally discussed.
16:09From this morning to now.
16:11Mid-afternoon, in charge of designing the perfect picture book.
16:18All right, moment of truth, guys.
16:20For Kieran's half of the boys.
16:22OK, so they put illustrations on to help us.
16:24That's good.
16:24Which ain't bad.
16:25A first look at their sketched-out story.
16:28So, you know what, it's not too busy as well, which is quite good.
16:31I'm very impressed.
16:32Yeah.
16:32For the other team.
16:35Zabori, it's time for school, said Zabori's mum.
16:39Creative differences.
16:41Zabori was struggling with his she-laces.
16:46He forgot how to tie them, but it would be just fun.
16:49Oh, God.
16:50Oh, boy.
16:51Wait, hang on.
16:52Why is there no reference to gaining his stripes?
16:54Guys, I'm not...
16:55I'm not being funny.
16:56Where is the funniness in there?
16:58But this is quite lacklustre.
17:00It's so disappointing.
17:01I'm confused.
17:02Like, the whole storyline doesn't follow.
17:03There's zero creativity.
17:05That picture that we've done there has more creativity than this entire story.
17:09Didn't Angel say she's literally written a book before?
17:12The book that she wrote must have been a colouring book,
17:14because this is a travesty.
17:17I don't know what the PM team have been doing for the past couple hours.
17:20It seems they've been twiddling their thumbs and deciding in the last five minutes,
17:24let's write a storybook, because it's pitiful.
17:26What we got back, I can't believe I've actually handed this over to us.
17:29What we're going to have to do is crack on with what we've got,
17:31and let's hope for the best.
17:35Bringing to life Astro's hunt for a loo...
17:38So, Dan, can I leave you in charge of aliens?
17:42Yeah.
17:42Sub-team leader Kieran is back at the controls.
17:46OK, so, look, I've got an alien here, so that's my alien design.
17:50Do you want to...
17:50Shall we add a bit more detail into it?
17:52Not just a two-second sketch?
17:54You know, think about it, Dan.
17:55Think of colours, think of size, think of shapes.
17:57OK?
17:58So, in the meantime, Dave...
17:59I'm not quite sure just yet whether I think we've got time.
18:02Please may I have Astro and the three aliens coming down the page.
18:06OK, Dan, describe your three aliens.
18:09Like I said, let's keep it simple.
18:10Just do one alien, we'll change the colour.
18:12No, that's the image there.
18:13Do you want to describe it to the gentleman?
18:17Do you want me to describe it, or you can look with your eyes?
18:19Yeah, I can do it.
18:23Some of my points aren't being heard because I think he's in a frantic rush to get everything
18:26completed, but yeah, I think Kieran just needs to listen to us a little bit more and stop being
18:29very abrupt and abrasive in some of his words and the way that he's speaking to us.
18:33OK, next page, please.
18:35Hang on, should we not put numbers on the pages, guys?
18:38At the end, because that's a very simple thing to do.
18:41I know, but you keep saying at the end, Kieran, but I can't see an ending.
18:44I need 24 pages complete.
18:46Once I've got images and text, we can then add, because again, it's very minimal.
18:50Zabori, it's time for school.
19:03While Andrea's team lay down the story of Zabori.
19:07Would you like my green apple?
19:10Next chapter for Marcus's boys.
19:13Please, Roo, can I do a poo in your loo?
19:16Narrating Astro's epic quest.
19:18Do you want to do for Doodoo Land?
19:23Something like that.
19:24These guys like it.
19:25Are we in?
19:25I'm happy with that.
19:26Let's do it, run it.
19:27OK, fine.
19:27That's a bit too much, though.
19:28I'm picturing myself with my four-year-old son listening to his audiobook.
19:32I'm happy with that, so yeah, let's do it, boys.
19:34Yeah.
19:34Let's go.
19:35Crack and stuff.
19:35OK.
19:40That's fine.
19:40We have to remember to do the continuation of the stripes as they add.
19:53Finishing touches.
19:55So, page 11, yellow stripe added.
19:57What's on page 12?
19:58It will be just fine.
20:02This is, like, actually making the most out of, like, very little.
20:05OK, cool.
20:06Next page.
20:07Can you put Zabori talking to the lion on that page?
20:10And just let's make them both a little bit smaller.
20:13OK.
20:13Yeah.
20:14OK, cool.
20:14Next page, please.
20:15On this page, can we move this text down into the empty gap?
20:18Yeah.
20:19Nice, nice.
20:19That's perfect.
20:20Yeah, that looks great.
20:21Yeah, that's nice.
20:22Fantastic.
20:23It will be just fine.
20:28Their whole concept initially was a zebra who gains colourful stripes.
20:32That whole message has been lost.
20:34It's not in the narrative.
20:36It's just a visual in the storybook.
20:38I think we did the best we could.
20:40Yeah, and to be honest, it does look good.
20:41I've seen children's books.
20:43They, they, we did well.
20:47For the boys.
20:48OK, guys, come on.
20:49We're almost there.
20:50Let's get this done, please.
20:51Yeah.
20:51Print deadline looming.
20:53For this, guys, it's going to be 21.
20:55This is going to be page 21.
20:57A plot twist.
21:00I would also just like to make a point.
21:02I was actually counting the pages and we've missed like two or three of the pages out of the book.
21:08You didn't want to mention the early one.
21:09No, because, you know, this is, this is, this is, this is, no, sorry.
21:13This is exactly why earlier on I said we should be numbering the pages so we're keeping on track.
21:19OK, that one I think is the one that we missed out.
21:20Well, yeah.
21:21We can't do anything about it now.
21:22OK, guys, I've got to send this off to the printers now.
21:26OK.
21:29This team have wasted so much time.
21:30They've ended up with an incomplete book and there's two pages missing any illustrations at all.
21:35Having a book with no pictures for a four to six year old, I think is unforgivable.
21:41Yes, we've missed illustration on two pages, but we've got a book.
21:45Yeah.
21:46I think those two pages, what we can say is that kids can draw.
21:48Yeah.
21:49They can put their imagination in.
21:507pm, stories told.
21:55We've done it.
21:56We made a masterpiece.
21:57An absolute masterpiece.
21:59I am very proud of every single one of you.
22:01Yeah.
22:01And let's just hope the design team will pull through.
22:04Books designed.
22:05The story of the warrior is done.
22:07Let's see what others think of it later.
22:08Let's go.
22:09Let's make a move.
22:10For both teams, bedtime.
22:218am.
22:22I'm really excited to see the product that you've come up with.
22:24I'm not hoping it's going to be fantastic.
22:26Can't work.
22:27While Andrea's team meet their main character.
22:30Okay.
22:30So I want to introduce you guys to Zabori.
22:33Oh, that is so cute.
22:36I actually love that thing.
22:38Oh, I love it.
22:39It's really cute.
22:41For Marcus's boys.
22:43The suspense is killing me.
22:44Oh, man.
22:44I'm so excited.
22:45Astro has landed.
22:48Wow.
22:49Wow.
22:50Okay.
22:51He's got a flag.
22:52What do you think, boys?
22:52Wow.
22:53Yeah.
22:54I think this is fantastic.
22:54This is exactly how I envisioned it.
22:56Well, I'm pleased you like it,
22:57because we didn't have much to go on,
22:58but we just took an educated decision on what we thought.
23:00What do you mean you didn't have much to go on?
23:02Obviously, we had Astro.
23:03Yeah.
23:04That's all we had.
23:05Sorry about that, but, yeah,
23:06I think this is in line with our, you know,
23:09vision of what we wanted to do.
23:10I'm very happy.
23:14Next for the girls.
23:16Bang, bang, bang.
23:18Zabori fell over his laces.
23:20His face went bright red.
23:22The big reveal of Zabori's story.
23:25It was all just fine.
23:29First impressions.
23:31I think it fits the bill.
23:32Can I just add, sorry, sorry to put a dampener on it.
23:35I just feel like it might be difficult to explain
23:37how the zebra got the stripes,
23:39because that should have been in the storyboard.
23:42My priority was to have a completed book.
23:45There were no point in having...
23:47And do you know what?
23:47We literally had ten minutes to do the rest.
23:50Kasia, this is what it was yesterday morning.
23:53You're interrupting constantly.
23:54Because I was doing the...
23:56You're doing it again.
23:57People keep talking over each other.
23:59And if I'm going to be honest with you,
24:01if you worked for me, you wouldn't be working for me anymore.
24:04Across the hall...
24:10He really needs to poo.
24:15The boy's toilet-themed tale.
24:19I'm just imagining, like, me and my four-year-old son
24:21sitting there reading this.
24:22Amazing.
24:22Why is there no illustrations on this page?
24:27What happened?
24:28It just got missed.
24:29And that's what I picked up,
24:30because I was counting the pages.
24:32And you told us right at the end,
24:33and you said that you figured it out earlier and didn't say no.
24:35No, I was counting the pages,
24:38but you were so sure of yourself, Kieran,
24:40that you knew exactly what you were doing.
24:41There was whole illustrations and graphics that were missed.
24:44So, Dan, was that on you?
24:45So...
24:45No.
24:46So, who was responsible for it?
24:48I guess it was you, Kieran.
24:49We're ultimately responsible.
24:51I think, yeah, that's not good at all.
24:55Those two pages have really irked me.
24:57There should have been some sort of point in which they said,
24:59actually, let's review what we're doing.
25:00I could blame individuals,
25:01but at the end of the day, it's a group effort.
25:03So, I just think, yeah, it's ridiculous.
25:05I can sense a bit of friction in the sub-team.
25:08Absolutely.
25:09Because of that, I want to actually make some changes.
25:11Dan, you're going to swap with Tan to join us
25:14to do the presentation and the pitching,
25:16just because I want to supervise you myself.
25:18So, the people going to consumer research are Karishma,
25:25Carrington, Roxanne, and Levi.
25:28I know that we started on a negative.
25:31Positive mindsets.
25:32Let's go, because we need to do excellent today, okay?
25:35Yeah, let's do this.
25:379 a.m. Today, half of each team will prepare their pitches.
25:43So, I would really like to introduce...
25:45Of course, yeah.
25:45I'm going to absolutely kick energy and emotion into this
25:47and really bring it to life.
25:48Amazing comment.
25:50While the rest gather feedback on their fairy tales.
25:55It was a bit frosty in there,
25:56and there was tension between the PM team.
25:58Let's just hope that they can deliver in this pitch.
26:00Central London.
26:03Are we excited?
26:05Yeah!
26:07Love it, love it.
26:08Hoping for an out-of-this-world response.
26:10Everyone's got a book.
26:11Everyone's got one.
26:13The boys.
26:14He is not scared of any planet in the universe.
26:19Except for one.
26:22Do-do-land!
26:30Okay.
26:31I saw a few smiles here and there.
26:34But what did people think of the adventure that Astro went on?
26:37So, it isn't that funny.
26:38Oh, okay.
26:39Okay.
26:40Did you not find it very funny?
26:43No.
26:44Do you want to hear it one more time?
26:45No.
26:46No.
26:47Okay, that's okay.
26:48this is meant to be a fun adventure book and no kids laughed so we're going to struggle selling
26:56this as a fun adventurous book if the consumers of the book aren't enjoying it we should have
27:01been funnier really shouldn't we for a funny book and there's no pictures on there yes
27:06down the hall shall we do the big reveal
27:11tada wow isn't he so cute yeah he looks cool zabori's team come face to face with five-year-olds
27:21bang bang bang zabori fell over his laces his face went bright red but it will be just fine
27:33hands up if we love the book yeah super fun book super fun yes did you understand the bit about
27:41the stripes so we had zabori with no stripes and then zabori with stripes at the end no okay
27:504 p.m ahead of the pitches they didn't understand like why has a zebra acquired more stripes they
28:03had just no idea for both teams we had no real laughs in the room and there was not really a lot
28:09of engagement on the faces a chance to check it you know the two blank pages i don't want to know
28:16about that one i don't even want to think about the negatives the whole point of consumer feedback
28:21is to get the negatives so we can work on the negatives and use it as positive so lads come on
28:25we don't have enough time i am going to make a conscious decision to say let's just forget about
28:28the negatives we are trying to sell this book i think you split it to a vote man i don't even want
28:32to take this one to a vote 5 p.m arriving some of britain's biggest booksellers all with the potential
28:43to buy stories in bulk ready to launch this is a horror movie or something marcus's boys
28:51welcome everyone we are here to present to you astro and the three aliens ladies and gentlemen
28:59please keep arms and legs inside of the spacecraft as we get ready to blast off out of this world
29:08ladies and gentlemen i'm going to ask you to count down with me 5 4 3 2 1 we have take off
29:19good so energetic yeah astro needs a poo he is not scared of any planet except for one doo doo land
29:34oh look them two are a bit frowning please rue can i do a poo in your loo
29:42but oh no this loo is too big
29:49across town trotting in with her tribe mum of five andrea
29:59welcome um educational books uh quite a big thing um
30:09children children from birth it's really good to read to children read books it's very educational
30:17um and i think it's okay it's a story about a boy who's a zebra and his first day at school and he's got
30:27worried and we're sort of saying that is fine
30:30it was the boy's first day at school he was feeling worried bang bang bang
30:37bang bang the boy fell over his laces his face went bright red but it will be just fine the boy looked
30:49out of the window as the bell rang ring ring guess who he saw his mum it was all just fine
30:59one day and he's been
31:23Astro and the Three Aliens, when we came up with the concept,
31:25it was really meant to be engaging.
31:27Connor.
31:29I couldn't find something in it where I was like,
31:32this is the main purpose and this is what makes this book individual.
31:36With the audiobook, with the caricature,
31:38it's really about bringing the words on the page to life.
31:41I mean, before we go into that, I was going to say,
31:43maybe, could we perhaps consider maybe a smaller amount of units
31:47just to see how things go?
31:49My question is, what would make them think this is the funniest thing
31:51on the shelves that they can buy?
31:53I think that's where Astro really comes into it.
31:55I mean, I mean, just to obviously go back to my point,
31:59even if we can trial just a few units...
32:02I think we would go with ten.
32:04With ten units.
32:07I'm quite frustrated.
32:08Marcus trusted me with this negotiation,
32:10but trusted himself more to close it,
32:12but asking them initially for a low number, I...
32:15I'm lost for words.
32:16I was building the rapport, which takes time.
32:19We don't have time to build that rapport.
32:20We need to get straight to the point.
32:22I do think there is something in letting the person who's pitching pitch.
32:27On the other team...
32:29We really like it.
32:29We think the character of Zabori is just great.
32:32While Pasha pins down a deal...
32:35The most we would take initially of something like this would be about 500.
32:37Thank you so much.
32:38Thank you so much.
32:40Trying to steer a major sale...
32:43We put a load of passion into this,
32:44cos we all can resonate one way or another,
32:46especially if we've got children.
32:47Lorry driver Levi.
32:51Talking about the units of the item.
32:53So our initial order would be to order 50 copies.
32:56Could we push to 200 units on the first one and then go from there?
33:02That would...
33:03Can we go ahead with that one?
33:05No.
33:10You'll be supporting us a lot.
33:11If we could just push to 100, we would really appreciate that.
33:14It's the support to our book, if possible, please.
33:18We'll go to 75.
33:20OK, so we'll shake on that then.
33:22Thank you for your time.
33:23Thank you very much.
33:28I would love to know your thoughts and feedback, Victoria and Melissa.
33:31Can you explain this?
33:32While Connor tries to fill in the blanks...
33:35Yes, so children would be able to draw and bring to life Astro on his adventures.
33:40It honestly just looks like you've forgotten to build a page.
33:43In talks with high street giant Waterstones...
33:46It's a little confused.
33:48When you read it, we didn't know if it was supposed to be funny.
33:51Tan Man.
33:53Do you think it's something we may be able to try in one or two...
33:55Maybe 50,000, 60,000?
33:57One or two stores.
33:58How many?
33:58Like, we could do, like, 50 to 60,000.
34:0050 to 60,000.
34:01OK, could we potentially try a smaller volume, and if it's...
34:05Try 10 copies.
34:06Could we perhaps try 1,000 copies?
34:07No, we're not going to take 1,000 copies.
34:08How many would you feel comfortable taking?
34:10I just said we could take 10.
34:13Just, I need to know, where did that figure just come out from?
34:16I had to, because we needed to finish and move on to a new retailer.
34:19I know, but what, because...
34:20By the time you said 60,000, you scared her off.
34:27On the other team...
34:28You are actually the first online retailers
34:30that we are so interested in getting Zabori's story into.
34:34While Karishma faces client feedback...
34:37I really liked the stripes.
34:39I mean, it was such a good idea, but it kind of didn't go anywhere.
34:43Talking up a deal with children's retailer Natural Baby Shower...
34:47What did you honestly think about our story?
34:49Vanessa.
34:49Well, we love Zabori.
34:52We thought it was very creative, very imaginative,
34:54and we can see that it will work for the back-to-school story for us.
34:58That's a big market for us.
34:59Oh, wicked.
35:00So it leans into that well.
35:01What's your usual selling units?
35:03Like, what do you normally do?
35:04Um, for something like this,
35:06we'd probably be looking about 1,200 units, um...initially.
35:1330 minutes to go.
35:14What did you think of the book? Honest opinions.
35:17While Rothner hears some hard truths...
35:19And I'm quite concerned by the bang, bang, bang.
35:22It almost feels like he's been shot.
35:25..for the boys...
35:27You saw the pitch? Yeah.
35:28Loved it? Loved the pitch. Fantastic.
35:31..aiming to complete...
35:33I thought the pitch was maybe better than the book itself.
35:35OK, but we all come as one, so that's fine.
35:37Essex estate agent, Kieran.
35:40Well, I think the thing is, the book feels a bit unfinished.
35:43OK, in terms of...
35:45I mean, there's a blank page in it.
35:46Yes, so that's for the children to open their mind
35:49and illustrate their own map of that galaxy.
35:51OK, I don't think that's immediately obvious.
35:53Yeah. Ah.
35:54The subject matter's great.
35:55Brilliant.
35:56What four to six-year-old doesn't love poo and space.
35:59In terms of the colouring, I really feel like it pops.
36:02It is good, yeah. Yeah.
36:03So how many would you like?
36:05I think we would put a maximum order in for 50.
36:09100? 50.
36:11Could we shake on 70?
36:12I think 60 and we'll shake on...
36:1465, meet in the middle.
36:1660. 63. Done.
36:18OK, 63.
36:22You've actually done really, really well. I love the energy.
36:24I mean, I just like to say, guys, I do sales for a living
36:27and there, I hope you've just seen, that is what I do.
36:30It's almost like Marcus forgot that in this whole entire process.
36:33I don't design books.
36:34Right, guys, we need another deal. Let's go.
36:36Let's go.
36:37Five minutes to go.
36:40The message wasn't entirely clear.
36:42You can see him sort of gaining his stripes,
36:44but it's not in the narrative.
36:46Right, OK.
36:47For both teams, toilet humour is a huge thing.
36:50Poo as a word is funny, but that can't be your entire thing.
36:55A final push for deals.
36:57Hello, can you shake on it?
36:59Shake on it.
36:59Amazing. Fantastic.
37:00Thank you so much.
37:01Can we get to six?
37:02Thank you so much.
37:03Thank you so much.
37:05Thank you so much.
37:07We were wondering if we could get to 330.
37:09Fine.
37:10Yes, thank you, sir. Thank you.
37:156pm.
37:16We honestly tried our best.
37:18That's all we could say, and I'm sure everyone here has done the same.
37:20Yeah.
37:21Tonight, sales will be counted.
37:24Obviously, it's been tough. It's not been easy.
37:26But we've done it.
37:27And our star man over here.
37:29And some big numbers as well.
37:30Let's go.
37:31Let's go.
37:31Let's go.
37:33Tomorrow in the boardroom, the final chapter.
37:46Good evening. How are you feeling?
37:47Yeah, not great after yesterday's performance, I'm going to be honest with you.
37:51There were a few people in our team pretending they were the project manager, making decisions.
37:56And who do you think that was?
37:57You.
37:59If we do lose the task, I will tactically bring in the right people in order to save myself.
38:10I didn't sleep very well last night.
38:12I'm just crossing my fingers and praying that the other boys have smashed it out of the park.
38:17Me being PM, it is putting pressure on me going into the boardroom.
38:21But I'm definitely not going down without a fight.
38:26You can go through to the boardroom, Mark.
38:28I'm just going through to the boardroom.
38:36I'm just going through to the boardroom.
38:39I'm just going through to the boardroom.
38:40right unfortunately Levi's sick today so he can't be in the boardroom so this task was all about
38:55making a kid's storybook an audio book so we'll start with the boys now Marcus you put yourself
39:06forward as the project manager is that right yeah I've got a son he's four years old now I
39:12thought also you were really disappointed rightfully so in the last task and I thought
39:17as though I'll put myself forward to actually showcase what proper project manager should be
39:20yeah so tell me what's the story so we left our brainstorm having a character in space who's on
39:28a spaceship who needs to do a poo and a twist on a modern fairy tale which we agreed was Goldilocks
39:32and the three bears Goldiplops you didn't think of that one did you now did you design this we the
39:43design team designed the character this is Astro so after the initial meeting in the morning we had
39:50no no brief in terms of what the team wanted it to look like all we had was Astro the astronaut I
39:55think it was a brilliant job thank you yeah we like that we really like the figure yeah stick it on
40:00there right close encounters of the turd kind yeah now what did the children have to say none of them
40:25when listening to it actually laughed out loud I think what they found that was an issue was a
40:29storyline they didn't find it you know that funny and then we've got a couple of blank pages what
40:36went wrong there the problem was bad management what you should have done was go back through it
40:40Lord sugar we knew we couldn't polish a turd but at the same time we knew this was the the actual book
40:46that we had in front of us we had to make the best out of a bad situation and pitch it to the best of
40:50I believe it's the retailer said it was quite a strong pitch but they say the product let it down
40:55wasn't funny or original right okay then all right well I've got the picture of what went on there
41:04let's let's talk to the ladies now now Andrea you put yourself forward as the project manager I think
41:10you've got five kids right that's right and also something to do with a school somewhere school
41:16governor school governor and did I hear you say you'd written the book the school had written a
41:20book yeah for children yeah I thought she wrote the book you said you wrote the book I meant is in the
41:26school we wrote a book okay so you come up with this zebra so we came up with the boy being a funny
41:36looking zebra zebra in witness protection I think we just wanted the kids to relate to him and we
41:44wanted to make him funny looking and exciting yeah okay and the story team and I hear there was a
41:53little bit of argy-bargy going on what was all that about it were just chaotic it were difficult to
41:59manage and we just weren't getting anywhere but it was just shouting over each other constantly it
42:05sounds like it calls that this calls more strops than stripes quite frankly I think the biggest
42:11issue was you lost sight of your story yeah how he gets the stripes I mean it just wasn't yeah
42:16look at all we're dead yeah the imagery carried the book essentially absolutely so now have a listen to
42:22this this this thing here let's have a listen
42:26it was the Boris first day at school he was feeling worried but it will be just fine bang bang bang
42:39that's it magically it looks like he's had a fight with marker pens who did the pitch to the uh the
42:56customers so I started with the introduction we're not you fluffed your lines yeah didn't you fluff your
43:02lines a bit possibly yeah I mean the retailers I think they found that the design and character
43:07it's good but the story really let it down yeah right well I think it's time to see how we all got
43:15on Tim can you tell me how your team did with the retailers well after their positive pitch to the
43:22retailers the total orders they walked away from with five retailers committing to sales was 419 units
43:31right Karen exactly the same thing well it's a shame you didn't get the story right because actually I
43:38think you would have got huge orders but you did well eight of the retailers all of them ordered from
43:44you and a lot more orders than the boys 2855 well done very good um off you go back to the house
43:55and I'll see you uh on the next task well I think it's fair to say at the end of this
44:16you won't all be living happily ever after
44:20uh I suggest you go off now and uh chat amongst yourselves I'll call you back in later and we'll
44:28get to the bottom of where all this thing went wrong yeah off you go thank you guys we won
44:42but disappointing on the story side of things but a lot of it that was down to like the design team
44:50end of the day so I feel like credit should be given to where it's due I disagree credit is given
44:56to a team all along I said it's teamwork it's not individuals there's no point in arguing when
45:01you're not even listening to me so right boys I'm very disappointed I feel as though the problem
45:14here lies with the design that's me being brutally honest but in the brief we didn't get you didn't
45:18tell us for example colors you didn't tell us but this is the role of the design team yeah okay
45:21this is like when do I design yeah I sell and I prove myself and I sold how many did you sell to
45:27sales aren't my strong point designing books ain't my strong point but I don't I don't do I design
45:31books no ultimately the failure of this task is down to Kieran providing us an unfinished product
45:37the retailers were not happy about that and as sub team leader it's down to you when it came to the
45:42design you guys did not execute it how you should have done everything we did no problems with it
45:47so but the story didn't flow there was no laughter when they were reading it no one was laughing when
45:52you read the story didn't you all laugh not really I feel that Marcus is completely putting the blame
45:58onto the design team which is not the case obviously there are aspects that we are at fault however the
46:02main problem lies is the story at the end of the day I don't think the story was a problem I do think
46:07is to do like the retailers said it was the story as well I'd say why aren't you listening to them
46:12like someone listen to the negative paper Marcus will not listen to the experts they did not like
46:18the story yes the book was unfinished but it's still sold I can sell the unsellable yes so I've heard
46:23a lot I now have a very important decision to make let the war begin yes could you call the candidates in
46:40this Marcus you said you became the PM so you could show me what a proper PM looks like I'm looking
46:59at you it's a sugar I mean I mean up I suppose I'll run my team effectively I did give someone a second
47:05chance being Kieran to be able to redeem himself for the first task can I just add there sorry I
47:11didn't actually put myself forward a sub team leader I'm in sales I'm not a design didn't turn
47:16down the role did you yeah exactly no I did another to tell me you don't write books as an estate agent
47:23you're right enough bullshit about the properties yeah that you sell that's for sure he also had
47:29another candidate Dan that wanted it but I feel as though Dan is not confident enough to lead a team
47:33just yet that's me being very honest I mean Marcus you didn't really make any decisions at all in this
47:38process I did I moved you I moved you from the design team to my team because you and Kieran were
47:43bickering but that's one decision I made do you want to care to bring up another so I can shut you
47:47down again Marcus you weren't involved in any negotiations were you I actually was so there
47:53was a point in which Connor was putting himself forward to speak to foils but I thought he was taking
47:58too long to get there so I then jumped in and I said look what's the minimum amount of sales that you can give
48:02to us if if I may interject there they had a lot of obstacles with the story and the book the design
48:07I was just about to introduce our consumer research before Marcus interjected and asked if we could
48:13make an extremely small trial offer are you all missing the point here right that the book itself was
48:23rubbish missing illustrations whose fault was that yes we'll show that one hundred percent down to the design
48:31team yes I take on my shoulders the book isn't complete however I I can't take a hundred percent
48:36of that because it's the story and the illustration that creates a book yeah I would just say I mean
48:41Kieran if you were just able to listen a little bit more and take your time and stop creating a chaotic
48:46environment I do believe we could have probably got the book completed I have to take responsibility for
48:51the missing illustration hmm Priyash you you you weren't involved in any negotiations oh he was
48:58Lord sugar he we were talking to water signs they didn't have any interest in the book tan then got
49:03them to ten and then before anyone that's a lie that is a lie what happened was they said we would offer
49:10ten and then I suggested let's do 50,000 or 60,000 and then they say yeah what yes so that's where it
49:15started Lord sugar we then they then said and then we'll try all 10. I'm still speaking wait um I first
49:22suggested 50 to 60,000 obviously they said books yeah 50 to 60,000 books yes which was probably not good idea
49:29um but then I go then I said what about them off that ten order it was constellation order it was
49:36like a pity order it's most probably just because she drove them nuts from what I can understand in
49:43many of their stores they've got a table with one leg shorter than the other three they're using the
49:49books to keep them propped up that's about it that's about all they wanted them for now Marcus which
49:57two people you're bringing back into this book um Lord sugar I would like to bring back Kieran
50:03and done Kieran and Dan yes please right well the rest of you go back to the house
50:14what a mess what a total mess I'm gonna be interested to hear what
50:26you've got to say as to why you brought these two people back so if you'd like to step outside
50:32now and we'll call you back in later yeah thank you I mean the joke is that the only person coming
50:44back from the story team is the project manager and the story was absolutely crap to use their own words
50:52we're born um sorry um could you ask Lord sugar if I could go back in please that's all right thank you
50:59yes hello Lord sugar Marcus would like to come back and speak to you okay stand him in
51:10what can I do for you um I just had a quick contemplation I would like to change my decision
51:22um I actually do want to send Dan back home and bring in Priyash but you already said you're going
51:29to bring Daniel in you must have had a reason for that so um initially I did want to bring Dan and
51:35Kieran back in all right I'll tell you what get out there yeah and all four of you be coming back in
51:40here thank you thank you thank you well that's very unusual very very unusual I mean the guy puts
51:51himself forward as wants to show himself to me that he could be a good leader of people and yet he can't
51:57even make a decision it's ridiculous and yeah I mean this Priyash fellow his intentions are well
52:04but unfortunately it made no impact to this particular task he also made no sales and from
52:10the sounds of it was interrupting other people trying to do the selling now interesting this Dan
52:15fellow is always this is wrong that's wrong I think if you're going to do anything for Dan if
52:20you're going to keep him in this process you must encourage him to speak up yeah Kieran who was on the
52:25design team he made the second most sales out of everybody what he can't get away from Alan is that
52:31he was the sub team leader and two pages have no illustration yeah you can't get away from it
52:36hmm okay could you send the four candidates in please
52:55yeah Marcus tell me why'd you change your mind um so upon contemplating I thought as though not
53:04only should I bring in those individuals that didn't complete what they were supposed to do
53:08what they were delegated I thought I should also bring in those that didn't really pull their weight
53:12or do anything at all what do you mean I give example I don't feel as though you contributed
53:16okay do you think you should be fired I'd certainly not I think why not okay not only do I I'm a good
53:22negotiator I'm a good seller I'm a good seller he didn't sell anything but gone but like for
53:27example when we were creating Astro national I think even Dan was there he could he could see
53:32how creative I was given with ideas and flowing and we were kept on getting shut down shut down
53:36wasn't creative then I do believe he was I think it's down to the leadership and the management style
53:41that both myself and Prius remember why don't you speak up I just sitting back waiting for people
53:46to fall on their swords no that's not correct um in this task I adapted very quickly it was a big
53:52wake-up call to myself and I've really put myself out there in this in this particular where did you
53:56adapt then quickly I must say Dan did speak and share his opinions what about you Kieran I mean you
54:03failed miserably last week yes I and you're the sub team leader I done the best I could with my team
54:10I don't think your actions you act back on a high ego so you treat people last week you're a bit
54:15arrogant have you been a bit arrogant then towards people I think so and I think Dan would agree
54:20I think he has yeah a few times in what way I mean just not listening to people dismissing ideas
54:26who do you think should be fired I think Kieran and Marcus I agree Kieran and Marcus but two of them
54:31because I feel Marcus there was no leadership you didn't set us a brief we didn't have no instruction
54:36of what you wanted in terms of character book no but you knew that it was a five-year-old astronaut
54:40right but where where do I say you just wanted design team to go with that you didn't want to
54:44tell us what you wanted it's a five-year-old astronaut work with Marcus the story is the biggest issue
54:52there was no point to it yes Lord Sugar I know the story is not good at all but the fact that it was
54:57finished I feel as though meant that we have done we did a lot better can I just add sorry I've
55:04admitted I take full responsibility the book you're sat there still arguing your story's great no I've
55:09clearly said that the story was not a good story again again the story again hold on again so where's
55:14the story again I am the one from the story team that's here so okay okay listen I think I've had
55:18enough for this I'm gonna make a decision now so um here's my view Kieran you're a typical estate agent
55:27you might be a good salesman but you know you're failing out last time books you know nothing about
55:36at all Dan I think you're quite a clever person but I do worry that you're waiting for people to
55:45fall on their sword and Priyash you can talk behind legs off a donkey what you're going to make me
55:51I don't want to hear any more I don't want to hear any more from you I'll read it Marcus you claim
55:59they could show me what a proper PM looks like well I've got to tell you you ain't showed me nothing
56:06back but Kieran I think it is regretful that there's an attitude about you whether you could
56:17be one of my business partners but having said that I'm gonna conclude today that Marcus you're fired
56:31thank you now you three I've got to up your game okay go on off you go maybe you'll share Tim
56:51thank you thank you I didn't expect to be fired put myself over this PM I thought it would be
57:02appreciated in the sense of you know I'm taking a risk but here's where it is onwards and upwards
57:07for me the boys are so cocky what's all this big man energy or this personality and then in a boardroom
57:15they write about who comes there comes there so Marcus basically asked me and Kieran to come back
57:33and kind of change the decision at the last minute and my face just draw I think Marcus just spoke too
57:40much in there and the problem the fact he changed his mind really annoyed him did he make the road to
57:45decision did Lord Sugar fire the right person I think ultimately Dan told him to do a double me and
57:50Margaret now 17 candidates remain the search for Lord Sugar's next business partner continues
58:04next time now this task is all about turning poultry into profit oh done done done done chicken
58:13chicken chicken and mushroom pie anyone versus egg if you don't make any money we will lose guys I'm
58:19getting stressed man and in the boardroom bloody hell you tend to piss off feathers fly you're fine
