00:00You
00:05Two former New York head coaches can link up down in Tennessee.
00:10On the Titans staff, Robert Sala is now the new head coach down with the Titans.
00:15But could Brian Dable join him as his OC?
00:20It's not confirmed yet, but Dable could head to Nashville if he doesn't get the Raiders head.
00:25Our Giants beat writer for the Post, Paul Schwartz, is on to talk about.
00:30Dable's options.
00:32Paul, thanks for hopping on with us when this new.
00:35News was reported or broke or I guess safe to say reported.
00:39Someone texted.
00:40Text me and asked me if Dable was fired midway through this.
00:45Why is he still an attractive coaching candidate?
00:50For the Titans and the Raiders.
00:52How do I respond to that text, Paul?
00:55Well, you know, a lot of head coaches get fired.
01:00One place and then get hired somewhere else, right?
01:03John Harbaugh.
01:05Was just fired, right?
01:06By the Ravens.
01:07And, you know, I'm sure in Baltimore.
01:10They had had enough of John Harbaugh and the Giants could not wait to re-sign him.
01:15Kevin Stefanski was fired by the Browns and now he's the head coach for.
01:20So, Brian Dable, yes, it was fired, didn't make it through his.
01:25Fourth season with the Giants.
01:26But, you know, one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?
01:30Bad situation, sometimes a bad quarterback.
01:35Bad ownership, sometimes bad front office, all can lead to a guy not.
01:40Succeeding one place and succeeding at the other.
01:43You know, I had no doubt that.
01:45Brian Dable would be a offensive coordinator in the NFL in 2026.
01:50I mean, virtually no doubt that I think he'd be a head coach.
01:53Probably not.
01:55There's still a chance with the Raiders.
01:56He's one of the three finalists to go to the Raiders.
02:00We'll see what happens there.
02:01Maybe the Raiders want to wait until after the playoffs are over.
02:03We'll see.
02:05But I had no doubt.
02:06I mean, Brian Dable is a fine offensive coordinator.
02:10Giants offense was better this year with him not calling the plays.
02:13You know, we'd have to say that.
02:15Mike Kafka called the plays.
02:17Jackson Dart playing quarterback as a rookie.
02:20Had something to do with that also for the offensive uptick.
02:23But, yeah, I mean, I mean.
02:25You know, if anybody would call me and ask me from another team,
02:28what do you think of Brian Dable as an offensive coordinator?
02:30I would say, you know, who's your quarterback?
02:33You know, tell me about your roster and your.
02:35Your personnel a little bit.
02:36But, you know, I think Brian Dable can run an NFL offense.
02:39I certainly do.
02:40These are two coaches that are what I like to call rah-rah guys, high energy.
02:45So, what do you think this relationship or this working relationship.
02:50Could potentially look like with these two on staff.
02:53Yeah, it's interesting.
02:54It is.
02:55Because these are guys who are not.
02:57These are guys who are contemporaries, right?
02:58They both became.
03:00Head coaches around the same time, both in New York.
03:03Sala for the Jets.
03:04Dable for the.
03:05Giants, you know, when the Giants and Jets practice together.
03:10Those joint practices and we'd always ask Brian Dable.
03:13So, what, you know, how did this come about?
03:14He says, well.
03:15Robert Sala and I have always had a good relationship.
03:17And, you know, Brandon, sometimes you hear that and you're like.
03:20Sometimes it's true.
03:21Sometimes it's like sort of true.
03:23You know, it's just we're going to practice.
03:25Together and we get along okay.
03:26But these guys definitely have a good relationship.
03:28You can tell.
03:30And it's interesting that Sala got his second chance, you know, after a failed first chance.
03:35With the Jets, don't forget, Brian Dable was an NFL coach of the year.
03:402022 and took his team to the playoffs.
03:42Robert Sala did not come close to achieving either.
03:45Of those two and he now gets a second chance.
03:48People liked what he did with the Sanford.
03:50Cisco defense, right?
03:51That's why the Jets hired him in the first place.
03:53And you know what?
03:54Guys are.
03:55You're not allowed to grow and evolve and mature also.
03:59I mean, I think.
04:00Too much, too often in the NFL industry, they hire first timers.
04:05And then they sit back like this and say, okay, first timer, show us what you got, you know?
04:10Make mistakes, but don't make a lot of them or else we're going to can you.
04:13And they don't let guys make mistakes.
04:15And learn from their mistakes.
04:16They get rid of them quickly.
04:18That's what happened with the Jets too quickly.
04:20I don't know.
04:20Maybe not.
04:21Did it happen too quickly with the Giants?
04:23I don't know.
04:24Maybe not.
04:25But they both get second chances and it will be interesting because they are both alpha.
04:30as you said, and they are both guys who are, it's not like one guy is here and one guy is here.
04:35They're both kind of on the same plane, but when one guy is the head coach and one guy is the offensive coordinator.
04:40One guy is the boss and one guy is not.
04:42Yeah.
04:42And I read somewhere that Robert Sala.
04:45might be making the calls on defense this time around instead of having the.
04:50you know, a defense coordinator like a Jeff Albrook.
04:52So Sala could be running his defense.
04:55Brian Dable, if he doesn't get that Raiders job and does accept the OC job, he'd be.
05:00calling the offense when you look at, again, you just talked about how they're both alphas, both.
05:05Both of these guys, I respect their X's and O's tremendously.
05:09One's more.
05:10One's more of a leader of men than the other.
05:12I feel like Sala is kind of, you know, he, he, he did.
05:15a lot better with the, with the Jets players and all the Brian Dable did.
05:19So.
05:20Do you think this, this coaching combo could turn the Titans franchise around?
05:25You know who I think can turn the Titans franchise around more than.
05:30anything is cam board, you know, you know, it's about players and Brian Dable.
05:35Liked cam board a lot coming out of the draft, right?
05:37The Giants wanted to trade up to get them.
05:40I was the only New York reporter in Miami for cam boards pro day and the Giants full.
05:45contingent was there, Joe Shane, you know, Dable, as I said, loved the guy.
05:50Um, they, um, well, like, let's trade up to get them.
05:52They just couldn't do it.
05:53The, uh, Titans.
05:55We're not going to trade, you know, they earned that number one pick by being lousy and they
05:59wanted.
06:00They wanted to take cam board and, um, you know, there was no other quarterback in that
06:04draft that was deep.
06:05Seemed worthy of a top five pick, which is why the Giants sat at number three and took
06:09Abdul Carter.
06:10And then, you know, Joe Shane and, uh, you know, uh, orchestrated that terrific deal.
06:15The trade up to back into the first round, the number 25, the deal with the Houston Texans.
06:20They get Jackson dart and that probably saved Shane's job and, you know,
06:25you know, has Giants fans thinking that we have a future.
06:28So, um, Brian Dave.
06:30I'm sure, look, I don't know what kind of options he had as an offensive.
06:35coordinator, but he realizes he's really good, but he's not a miracle worker and you can't
06:39go into a.
06:40situation where there's no quarterback and no potential to draft the quarterback.
06:45And say, I'm going to get it done on offense.
06:47So, uh, uh, Dable and cam.
06:50I think cam ward will really, really benefit from this and, um, look, the Titans roster.
06:55is maybe the worst in the league.
06:57They're a really, really weak.
07:00roster, but they have a young quarterback.
07:02Jackson dart had a better rookie year than cam ward did.
07:05Um, but cam ward was considered coming out of the draft last year, the.
07:10better prospect by virtually everybody and maybe everybody, including the Giants.
07:14They had.
07:15Ward as a better prospect than Jackson dart or they couldn't get ward.
07:18They pivoted and trade.
07:20it up to get dark.
07:21So I think, um, Brian Dable will be very anxious and eager to.
07:25work with that young quarterback.
07:26Yeah.
07:27Cam ward, when I was doing the evaluation of.
07:30him coming out of Miami, he was, he was unreal.
07:32Like I love, and even you could see him.
07:35come around late in the season as well, playing like the cam ward at Miami.
07:40Washington state, you know, everywhere that he he's been, you talk about the success that.
07:45That Brian Dable had with Jackson dart.
07:47So let's say, okay, again, hypothetically, he doesn't get the.
07:50Raiders job, he takes over his OC in Tennessee, X's and O's aspect.
07:55of it, how do you see Dable calling plan, uh, calling plays or game plan?
08:00planning more like he has a Josh Allen as quarterback or more of a Jackson.
08:05dart as quarterback.
08:07Well, I think dart and, and Josh.
08:10Allen are similar.
08:11Um, Josh Allen is just a bigger, stronger.
08:15master version of Jackson dart, um, you know, um, um, uh, cam ward can move.
08:20But he's not the kind of runner that Jackson dart is or Josh Allen is so Dable.
08:25We'll have to make some adjustments there.
08:26Look, it's going to be a personal connection.
08:28It's going to be the main thing.
08:30Um, Dable and dart had this personal connection.
08:34You could just.
08:35Well, they liked busting on each other.
08:36Um, Dable loved, you know, playing little mind games.
08:40And mind tricks with Jackson dart.
08:42Now, will cam ward take that coaching?
08:45As well as Jackson dart did that remains to be seen, but throughout the whole draft process.
08:50Dable, you know, was, was, was, you know, in on all the interviews with.
08:55Cam ward pro days combine, you know, so he got a lot of exposure.
09:00To cam ward and they came away saying, yes, let's try to trade up to get them.
09:04Even though.
09:05No, they could not do that.
09:06So, um, I would think Dable has an understanding of what cam ward.
09:10Cam ward is cam ward is not the kind of personality that Jackson dart is from my time around.
09:15Both certainly more time now around Jackson dart cam ward is very serious.
09:20He's intense.
09:21Um, some people along his journey, don't forget, he didn't start it.
09:25Miami kind of, though, he wasn't always the most popular teammate because he was very intense.
09:30Very demanding, um, you know, not that free spirit, you know, he, he, he took.
09:35He took his losing hard, took his own performance hard.
09:38So, um, you know, Dable will have.
09:40Dable will have to adjust to that and adjust to that personality and cam ward will have to adjust.
09:45Brian Dable's personality, but Brian Dable knows how to work with young quarterbacks.
09:49So, like I said, I.
09:50I think cam ward, if he's open to it, will really benefit from this.
09:53Here's another hypothetical.
09:55If you're Brian Dable, who, which quarterback would you rather coach in 2026?
10:00Fernando Mendoza or cam ward?
10:03Well, it's easy.
10:05If he's going to coach Fernando Mendoza, he's going to be the head coach.
10:08Yeah, yeah.
10:09Right.
10:09He's going to be the head.
10:10And last time I checked, offensive coordinators pretty much always want to be head coach.
10:15So, um, you know, I think, um, Joe Brady was a finalist there.
10:19He was just hired by the.
10:20He was just hired by the Bills.
10:21Um, um, who else is there?
10:23Uh, the Davis Webb.
10:24That was.
10:25to be something, right? Davis Webb is a finalist
10:27for the Raiders. Evario, right?
10:29Ed Gerard.
10:30Edgero Evario, yep, yep, yep.
10:32Edgero Evario.
10:33Yes, defensive coordinator.
10:35From the Panthers, he's a guy who's been a finalist there. All three of those guys.
10:40I've interviewed twice, so do the Raiders just want to make a call there?
10:44Do they want to?
10:45Do they want to wait for a Kubiak after the Super Bowl?
10:47Do they want to wait? Maybe they get in on Shula.
10:50Now, is there anyone from the Patriots? Probably not.
10:54I mean, do they want to make a run?
10:55Josh McDaniels? I have no idea.
10:57You know, it's the Raiders.
10:58You really don't know what the Raiders are going to do.
11:00But, um, yes, yes.
11:02So, so, so, um, yeah.
11:05Yeah, that's true. I don't think they'll bring Josh McDaniels back.
11:07Yeah, that would be a hell of a story.
11:10It would be, it would only be the Raiders to do that.
11:12We didn't like them then, but now we like them now, right?
11:14So.
11:15So, um, you know, uh, would Brian Dable take the head coaching job with the Raiders?
11:19I.
11:20I think because of Mendoza, that makes it very attractive.
11:22You are starting from the ground floor, which.
11:25Now, that's a situation where you have a quarterback.
11:29They're going to take him number.
11:30Number one, you would think, you know, everyone thinks, and then you start, the expectations
11:34are low.
11:35Um, you're not going to have a really good team, but you think you can build around a
11:38number one pick.
11:40franchise quarterback.
11:41We'll see how that transpires.
11:43So that will be fascinating.
11:45Is, is Brian Dable kind of a hard sell in Sin City on the strip?
11:50Vegas?
11:51Yes and no.
11:52Yes.
11:52You can say, well, he didn't do anything in his last three.
11:55He was with the Giants.
11:55You can say he's good with quarterbacks.
11:57You can say he's a, he's a guy who.
12:00Who will build up program.
12:01Maybe they're waiting for someone else.
12:02I, I, I think Brandon.
12:05I leave you with this is that people who try to make a living predicting this and then
12:09trying to.
12:10They predict what the Raiders are going to do.
12:11They're going to lose a lot of money because the Raiders very often do.
12:15Do what you don't expect them to do.
12:16Well, you can rub his bald head for good luck.
12:18Then go play black.
12:20Jack, hopefully, you know, win some money there, but it's going to be interesting to see what
12:24happens in, uh, but.
12:25You know, it's great for Dave's that he's going to get opportunity elsewhere.
12:28Like you said, without a.
12:30I thought he was going to be an offensive coordinator somewhere in 2026, but let's see if he gets
12:34a heck.
12:35coaching job sooner than, uh, than later.
12:37Paul, thanks for taking the time out and, uh, hopping on.
12:40With this.
12:41Yep.
