00:00Who are you looking forward to? If I said, like, buy a ticket for 2028, who are you looking forward to?
00:07I think we're really, really lacking. Which list do you want to hear first?
00:12Let's hear the young guys. I love the young people.
00:14All right. So before we do that, though, Rob in San Jose, I think, is excited.
00:19So let's go to Rob. Hi, Rob. Thanks for calling. What's up?
00:23What's up, boys? Yeah, I think really there's only one name that is 25 and under
00:29that you should be excited about in Bay Area sports. Now, granted, I'm a little biased
00:32because I live in San Jose, but that's back in Pennsylvania.
00:35I think we finally have, like, a Sidney Crosby on our team and someone that is going to bring
00:40the Sharks their first Stanley Cup. And to be honest, I think the Sharks are the team
00:45that is going to be the next Bay Area team to win a championship.
00:49Oof. I mean, like, for the first time in a while, that statement is not met with laughter.
00:55You might be right, Rob. Yep. And by the way, Rob, thanks. There's no question the number
01:01one name on this list. There's zero question. Right. And yes, it's a player that some of
01:07you, a good handful of you who are listening to us right now have never seen play, which
01:13is crazy. Which is where you should probably start to move as you get deeper into the late
01:19winter and the early spring and there's no Giants. And, you know, the Warriors are going
01:22to be this. And I won't miss a Warrior game. They're still exciting. They've got the chef.
01:26I mean, but I mean, you could carve out a little time between the Super Bowl and opening day
01:32for some hockey. And you watch Macklin Celebrini play, as I have. And it's like the guy is an
01:37absolute maestro at 19.
01:40This comes from 925 Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line. The irony is that
01:45the Warriors last young star was named Jordan Poole.
01:49Yep. And then that year after the championship, he was as big as any
01:53Warrior. I won't say that. Nobody's ever as big as Steph Curry. But I hear what
01:57you're saying. And the Warriors also extinguished his star. LOL, the cemetery.
02:05The cemetery.
02:07Yeah. Yeah. Listen, your boy Geltzie was actually really good on this
02:14on this topic earlier today. And he came on with Stiney and Goo. And this is the bottom
02:21line. And I think it's it's it's why some of you are having a hard time with Steve Kerr
02:26right now. And I get it. But what Steve Kerr Steve Kerr doesn't hate young people. Steve
02:33Kerr is not a jerk. Steve Kerr is not mean. Steve Kerr is not racist. Steve Kerr is not any
02:39of these things. What Steve Kerr is, is he is completely and totally bought in and focused
02:47on the Steph Curry system. And if somebody comes in and wants to shine in their own way,
02:54that is a problem. That's like it shouldn't be. That's not how it usually works. That's not
03:03the young players fault. But can you really blame the Warriors for being all about Steph
03:10Curry? And if you want to come in and do things a different way or you don't fit with Steph
03:14Curry, you're going to have a problem. You're going to have a hard time getting minutes on
03:19the Golden State Warriors. And I think that's where Steve's not just his loyalty. I think
03:23that's where his opinion lies. I think it's based in a lot of it's based in a lot of data
03:28in fact, too. Yeah. But at the same time, when he was here and he was starting to fit
03:34in and play well, he averaged 20 a game and they won the championship where he actually
03:38averaged 18.5. You're talking about pool. Jordan pool. Yeah. So it wasn't that he wasn't
03:42fitting in. He was. I do think that some of his hubris or his term cocksure nature might
03:49have rubbed some of the vets the wrong way. And clearly that boiled over into an episode
03:53that was captured on camera and then leaked to the public. And that was a big part of it.
03:58But Jordan pool as a player, he was fitting in and he played well when they won a title.
04:04That's all true. However, I'm going to attach those two things that you just mentioned.
04:09Like, I do believe that if you what you mentioned as Jordan pools hubris, I believe that the
04:15Warriors and their sort of current stars felt like that was probably at some point threatening
04:22a little bit like that. Was Jordan pool just going to keep being like, oh, we're doing
04:28a pool party like once every two weeks. I get the attention and I'll come off the bench
04:34and we'll just do a pool party. We'll just do this. We'll do this for the next seven to
04:40eight years of my career into my 30s. I'll just keep being Steph Curry's little other
04:47splash brother. I don't think Jordan would have done very well with that. And that's a
04:51problem. And you can kind of see it in that last year where, you know, usage was up, turnovers
04:56were up and scoring was up because all those other things like he had the ball a lot more
05:00and, you know, he played in every game. And could you or could somebody be able to coach
05:06him and get him to play a different way? Sure. And that clearly wasn't the way that it went
05:10because after they won the title, he got knocked out and he played the way he played and, you
05:16know, he got his bag and then he got dealt. And so things happened. And I don't know if
05:20I personally would look at it and go, well, that's a Steve Kerr problem. It's the whole
05:25situation where you had younger players who were either not playing well, James Wiseman,
05:30not getting a chance, Kaminga, or playing well and maybe not playing the way you wanted Jordan
05:35Poole. And so the team decided in all three situations, not yet with Kaminga, but they're
05:40going to, they had to make decisions and they made those choices. And so here you are with
05:45an older Steph and a deteriorating Draymond, Jimmy out for a year, Al Horford not playing
05:52back to backs. And so to your list and your point, like if you look at your list and you
05:57probably have two, maybe three warriors on it, but none of those guys are stars. You're
06:03talking about the 25 or younger? Correct. Correct. I can say three. That's a pretty good guess.
06:09I can say three, but again, of the three, you're not looking at any of the three and
06:13going, you're going to be the Macklin Celebrini of the NBA. Hell no. Right. And I think that
06:18this is your bigger point. Your bigger point is we here in Bay Area sports are left with
06:23very few, like, wow, you're under 25 and you're going to be that guy. Like Bryce Eldridge.
06:30I'm sure he's on the list, but what has he done? We have no idea what he's going to be.
06:35We have absolutely nothing. We've seen a tiny bit and it wasn't good. And again, it's not,
06:40it's not a real sample. I'm just saying that doesn't bother me. And his wrist was hurt and
06:44it was at the end of the year and it was about whatever it was, 35 at bats or something like
06:48that. But anyway, what we're talking about today, and it is sort of, it's born out of
06:54this, like this idea of everything for Steph. It's born out of this idea of put all the chips
07:02in the middle of the table and damn it right now, right now, right now for the Warriors,
07:07right now for the 49ers. Remember the trade deadline? Go get Trey Hendricks in. I don't
07:12care that the money's wrong or what, like Super Bowl or bust and everything in the middle of
07:19the table at all times. The Giants are unveiling a new regime this year. I'm not patient at the
07:26same time with what's going on across baseball. I mean, how many nine figures, nine year deals do
07:34you want the Giants to sign up for? Six or seven of them? Like you're probably going to suck in four
07:42years and be in really, really bad spot, but that's not the way we operate. We want now, now,
07:48now. And I think one of the reasons we want now, now, now is various sports fans feel like they've
07:53got nothing to lose because there's very little at 25 or younger that feels like a sure thing.
08:00Right. All right. So here's the list. We'll get number one out of the way. It's super obvious.
08:05Number one is Macklin Celebrini. Okay. And again, these are my top 10 current Bay Area players,
08:1425 or younger. It's not based on achievement. It's based on interest and excitement. Okay. But
08:22you do have to sort of like sprinkle in what have they looked like on the field or the court.
08:28Right. So number one, Macklin Celebrini. Okay. Age 19. Woo. 19. Yep. Dude. All right. Number two,
08:4024 years old, defensive back, Upton Stout. Okay. It's number two. He had a really good year. Yep.
08:47Exciting. Yeah. Number three, 23 years old, Jonathan Kaminga. Wow. I mean, good thing you get the list
08:57out now. Why? Because he might be gone in the next nine days. Exactly. But I mean, again, if we're
09:03talking about interest and excitement, hell, the guy's pretty much taken over the discussion about
09:08the entire team. Right. Yep. That's a lot of interest, don't you think? And there's excitement
09:13for some and there's not excitement from others. Yeah. People don't think that he's, yeah, exactly
09:17any good. Yeah. Okay. Number four, 25 years old, wide receiver, Ricky Pearsall. Slid him in there.
09:27I mean, he's 25. He's 25. Yeah. And flashed. Sure. Flash. A couple times. Yeah. Yeah. Plays half the games,
09:36but there is interest and I don't know how much excitement there is. We'll see how many more
09:40games he actually plays as a Niner. Maybe one more year. Who knows? I think it's going to be more
09:45than that. Okay. And there's no reason to move off him next year because he'll still be on a rookie
09:50contract. It's only his third year. But sure. Like, we'll see what the injury situation is. I don't know
09:56if they'll rely on him after next year, the same way they're planning to, if he has another injury
10:03riddled season, but we'll see. I don't know why they would move off of him. Number five, 21 years old,
10:12first base slash designated hitter, Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco Giants. He's already 21? 21 years old.
10:21Clock's running there, Bryce. Getting a little late here. Already 21? What does that even mean?
10:27I thought that he was like 19 or 20. I didn't realize that he was already 21. He was 19 or 20 when we first
10:32started talking about it, but that was about a year and a half ago. So now he's 21. The other
10:36thing that hit me when we were talking about Jordan Poole, he's in his seventh year. That
10:41one hit me. Seventh year? I remember like his rookie year. He played some college ball. Like
10:48is he almost 30? Not quite, but yeah. Not quite? By the way, Bryce has done so little that like
10:56when you look at it on the internet, I don't even know when his birthday is. Usually I can tell
11:01like when are they going to turn? Yep. I see it here. It's October of 04. Okay. So
11:05you just fairly recently, right? It turned 21 right at the end of the season. 21 years
11:10and 99 days old. Okay. Number six, 21 years old, defensive lineman, Mikel Williams, San
11:20Francisco 49ers. Okay. And again, he, he flashed and he looked pretty good. Good run
11:25stopper. Looked pretty good in the run and you know, guy who can play inside and outside
11:28and first round pick. So, all right. All right, Shanahan. And a torn ACL also. Right. So
11:33there you go. But still so young that, I mean, those ACLs, you tear them when you're that
11:38young. It doesn't even matter, right? I don't even know why he's not playing already. Yep.
11:42Okay. Um, that was number six. Number seven, 25 years old linebacker, D Winters, 49ers.
11:53Eh. I mean, he. What's the matter, Grandy? He was. Week four. If you go listen to the
12:00shows week four, people like when Fred was playing next to him, everybody forgot about
12:06Dre Greenlaw. Right. They did. Right. And then we saw Tatum Bethune. And then we saw,
12:12you know, the law firm come in and D Winters. He was fine. He, he's really fast, but he doesn't
12:19always make the right play. He overruns plays and he makes mistakes. Yeah. Okay. So that
12:26like you just described who Funga and people love him. I mean, who Funga was in the, uh,
12:30conference championship game. Yes, he was. He also overruns plays less. So now he's more
12:36experienced player, but anyway, but like, I've, I think this speaks to the point of
12:40the, the conversation, which is we're running out of people. We already are. And D
12:44winners, by the way, I do still project him as like, what would he look like next
12:48to Fred Warner? Cause that's in theory, what the next couple few years of his, of
12:53his world are going to be. Right. And he looked great when he was next to Fred, just
12:57like Dre Greenlaw did. So anyway, that's number seven, number eight. And we're going to
13:03circle back now to a name that I like, there's a healthy portion of our audience
13:07that like our audience is going to be one of two people. You're either about to
13:10say, who is that? Or you're about to say, he should be way higher on this list. And
13:16it just depends on if you watch hockey or not, but number eight, uh, 20 years old
13:23center, Will Smith, San Jose sharks. Okay. That's, I mean, great. I like the pick. I like
13:28the player. Those I think were, they had two first round picks and they got both
13:33of those guys back to back pow pow. So yeah, 20 years old, part of that, the
13:38golden line of guys born in the mid two thousands. Here we go. Sharks top 10
13:43players, 25 or younger current Bay area athletes based on excitement level. This
13:50is my read on a lot of you, by the way, excitement level on their future. Um, in
13:57order the first eight, Macklin Celebrini, Upton Stout, Jonathan Kaminga, Ricky
14:03Pearsall, Bryce Eldridge, Michael Williams, D winters, Will Smith. We've arrived at
14:08number nine. I almost kind of want to pull you over to this side of the room
14:12here so that you could announce this one. You deserve this. Oh yeah. You deserve
14:15this. All right. Number nine, 23 years old guard golden state warriors. Will
14:23Richard. Will Richard is number nine on this list. Second round draft pick rookie
14:29has flashed at times. Feel like he's got a good Q rating right now with the, uh, the
14:34Bay area sports fan. No doubt. I mean, he came out and immediately it felt like he
14:39knew what he was doing. And, you know, Grandy and I met him at summer league and
14:42he already, I thought had that, that moxie and that confidence that comes from
14:47being a part of that kind of a college program. And before anybody wants to bury
14:52Dunleavy for his drafts, think about what's happened in the recent past where
14:57you've gotten pods, you've gotten TJD, you've gotten Guy, you got Will Richard,
15:02you got Quentin Post. These are all guys that you were able to go out there and get
15:06late first or in the second round. And they're not stars, but they're at least
15:11guys you can play in the NBA. That's good. Number 10. Okay.
15:1622 years old. Guard. Golden State Warriors. Valkyries correspondent. Brandon
15:25Pujemski. Number 10, huh? Number 10. Wow. That's pretty low. Again, this is not about
15:31accomplishment. He'd be much higher. This is about people's excitement about the
15:37future. I have to, I have to use a machete to cut through the text messages on my
15:42phone of people hating on this guy. They hate watching him. I'm not kidding.
15:48I mean, I wonder why.
15:50Well, you know why, but like, and there are multiple reasons. First of all, there are,
15:58you know, there's some of his commentary over the last few years has been a turnoff.
16:02There's no two ways about it. I'm going to be better than Steph Curry. Okay, pal.
16:05He also doesn't look, he doesn't have the look, doesn't look like a basketball player. He has
16:10tripped and fallen into being sort of like the, like the rival of Jonathan Kaminga in the debate
16:18world, even though the two of them have literally nothing to do with one another. Um, and, and then
16:24he's got an, not just an awkward look as, as a basketball player, he's got an awkward looking game.
16:28This is a different kind of a game, but I don't know his production. You would take at the,
16:35whatever it was, 20th, 21st pick in the draft. You would take it every single time.
16:40But it's something about the way he plays. You're right. Like the Euro step, the way he slows down
16:45before he goes up and shoots his little floater. Maybe it's the headband, the hair, the commentary,
16:52whatever. And you know, I watched last night and he was fine. He was fine with a team that had
16:57nobody else. And so that's why I was saying you take the under on 17 and a half points and
17:02turned out, I think he had 15 or 14 or whatever. I don't think anybody scored 18 points for the
17:07Warriors last night. No, I mean, they barely scored 18 points. I think it was low scoring.
17:12I compiled an others receiving votes column. Okay. Would you like this? Sure. They didn't make
17:16the top 10, but I want to know. Moses Moody doesn't make the list. Moses Moody. Yeah. Moses.
17:20Are you excited about Moses Moody's future? I mean, probably not. That's my point. Like he might
17:26actually be a guy you trade here in the next eight or nine days. Maybe, but he's also a guy
17:30that to me, you can use Sharpie to write down like who he's going to be. He is a player in
17:35the NBA. He is absolutely not a star. Like that's just, he can be a rotational two-way
17:42player, knock down a three. He is never going to score 20 a night in the National Basketball
17:48Association. So that's why he's, that's why he's here. But yeah, he's on the list. If you want
17:53to call him 11th, go right ahead. He was number one on my others receiving
17:57votes. Moses Moody, Quinton Post. This is now sort of no particular order. Quinton
18:03Post, Alfred Collins, Malik Mustafa, Dominic Pune, Luis Matos, Hayden Birdsong, and Tatum
18:12Bethune. Those are other 25 and younger athletes in the Bay who have some sort of
18:19imprint so far. Okay. And Quinton Post will be 26 here in about six weeks. So we're going to kick
18:25his butt off the list. He goes ahead and gets off the list. Yeah, too old. But yeah, I mean,
18:30that's a good list. And I think it speaks to your overall point, which is the future is not very
18:36bright in terms of what we have already in-house. You have two Sharks who are 19 and 20. They look
18:43to be the real deal. And the Warriors, you're talking about, you know, role players mainly.
18:48And for the Niners, yeah. A couple of guys like Mikel Williams. I don't think that Mikel Williams
18:53is ever going to be a 10 sack guy, but can he be a mainstay on your defense? Yeah. Upton Stout,
19:00probably a nickel corner for his career. I don't think that he's ever going to get to a spot where
19:04he's a lockdown corner like Patrick Sertain, you know, or one of these other guys that you see.
19:11May not have that size, but yeah. Right. So, I mean, you're excited because they're players and
19:17they look to be good players. But, you know, of all those guys on the list outside of the hockey
19:21guys, there aren't any of them who you look at and go, yeah, I can't wait to see him for the next
19:26eight to 10 years. He'll be a star. Yeah. And someone's asking on the Boxer and Gerson work
19:32injury attorney's text line, what about Trace Jackson Davis? He is not yet 26. He is 25 years old.
19:39I stand by my list. Right. I mean, you're all excited about Trace Jackson Davis? Not really.
19:47Doing what? Exactly. Like I didn't name every athlete who hasn't turned 26 yet. Dub Nation.
19:53It's Trace Jackson Davis. His birthday's in 25 days. Okay. So he's got 25 days to deal with
20:00not making this list. Right. And if you look at all the warriors on this list and you know,
20:06we've got TJD, Quentin Post, Kaminga, Moody, Guy, Will, Brandon. Guy Santos. There's another one
20:13where I'm like, okay. Right. Like he can be an effective something. I don't know if there's
20:19like excitement. There's not. And there's not excitement from any of those guys other than
20:23Kaminga. And Kaminga is either going to be traded soon or traded later or not re-signed. So
20:30of all the names you mentioned, the one that I'm really excited about, Kaminga, he's not going to
20:35be here. Yeah. I mean, like the list is actually, if you want to talk about excitement, like come on,
20:45rub hands together. Excitement is actually probably only three or four names. Celebrini,
20:50obviously that's not even excitement. Bryce Eldridge. Yeah. Bryce Eldridge. That's hope more than maybe
20:55excitement, but there's some excitement there. Ricky Pearsall. I might be on an island there.
21:01I still have it. I had it. I still do. And, and yes, Kaminga, but we all get that there's just
21:07water dumped all over it because nobody believes he's going to be here. Right. And he won't be.
21:14Probably. I mean, he might be through April. He might be through, you know, May, June, whatever,
21:18but by the time we get to the new league year in July, I do think at that point, they're going to
21:23have to do something about it. So how many of these players made the other list, which we will
21:27unveil here in just a moment, the top 15 athletes in the Bay based on current importance to their
21:33team and their franchise. How many of those names made that list? We'll unveil that. Would love your
21:39thoughts on this. And who are you excited about? Do you have a general excitement for where things are
21:47going with any of these teams or is that sort of shading your opinion right now with regard to
21:53wanting to push all the chips into the middle of the table with all of these teams every year
21:58to chase championships?
