00:04Since Mohamed Salah moved to Liverpool in 2017, the Egyptian has played his way onto the shortlist of world leaders
00:12with his goals and assists.
00:16Two English Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy and the FIFA Club World Cup all testify to his
00:24influence in red.
00:29Individual brilliance rewarded with three Player of the Year awards, most recently in 2025, after helping Liverpool to a surprise
00:39Premier League success.
00:42That's why for me this one is always going to be special.
00:44This Premier League coming back from the holiday and just like all I think about is winning the Premier League
00:51with the club and make the club win the Premier League.
00:53And I think I had that conversation with the manager. I told him he was very I was very honest
00:58with him.
00:59I told him like with me, you're going to win the Premier League, but I have to feel really comfortable
01:05with it, with the way we play.
01:07And he was very honest. I had a few honest conversation and he told me, OK, I will get the
01:12best out of you.
01:13Then I will put you in a situation that you're very comfy, but I need you to provide numbers.
01:17So, yeah, I did that so well. And yeah, in the end we win the Premier League. So that's why
01:24it's so special.
01:28At the end of that successful campaign, Salah was the third highest goalscorer in Liverpool's history and within striking distance
01:36of Roger Hunt and Ian Rush.
01:40If he's a player who retired tomorrow, we genuinely would be taught about him as one of Liverpool's great forwards.
01:47He's the biggest striker LFC had in the modern times. Obviously, there were other good strikers, really good strikers, but
01:53fantastic player, fantastic human being, outstanding athlete, best ambassador your country could have.
02:01Fantastic, really, in pretty much all departments. So I hope he will stay at Liverpool.
02:07First of all, he's always been judged as a player. He's always judged as a player, which is, of course,
02:12what you guys should do.
02:13But I also see him as a human being and he's a humble person, always wants to work hard, always
02:19puts a lot, a lot of effort in to become the player he has become.
02:24And he wants to stay at that level, so he just keeps on bringing that effort every single day.
02:29And what makes him special on the pitch is, in my opinion, that he can score goals.
02:35Now, there are more players who can score goals, but Mo can also score a goal if he's not in
02:39the best half hour or the best 15 minutes.
02:44And that's why he's mentally so strong as well.
02:47And you need to be that if you want to be seven or eight years at the highest level every
02:51three or four days.
02:52Apart from quality, about from physique, you need to be mentally really strong as well.
02:57And I think that's, apart from all the other things, how mentally strong he is, is probably what stands out.
03:07Salah first came to prominence in 2012 when he moved from Al Mokouloun to Basel after the Egyptian Premier League
03:15was suspended following the death of 74 fans in the Port Said Stadium riot.
03:24He scored goals against Chelsea in both the Europa League and the Champions League while in Switzerland, so the Blues
03:32promptly signed him.
03:35But under Jose Mourinho, playing time was limited, and he found himself on loan to Fiorentina.
03:44Salah came alive again in Florence, but outraged the viola when he criticised the club for its moral and professional
03:51standards, choosing Roma as his next loan destination.
03:58Two seasons later, he was a consistent goalscorer in Serie A, Roma's Player of the Year, and worthy of Liverpool
04:07breaking their transfer record to bring him to Anfield.
04:14The glaring omission on Salah's CV is success with Egypt.
04:19His solitary World Cup in 2018 was a massive disappointment.
04:25Never fully fit, Salah only played two group phase matches, as Egypt were humbled in consecutive defeats to Uruguay, Russia
04:33and Saudi Arabia.
04:37AFCON has also proven a frustration.
04:40In 2017, Salah had to watch Cameroon celebrate after he failed to fire in a 2-1 final defeat.
04:48Then four years later, he didn't have the opportunity to take a spot kick, as Senegal prevailed in a penalty
04:55shootout.
04:59On the less, he remains a hero in his homeland.
05:07Salah has had a great impact in the whole of Africa, and particularly, of course, in Egypt.
05:15People identify themselves with Salah.
05:19Salah is a god in Egypt.
05:22We should all look to Salah as an example for what he's been since the beginning of his career.
05:28Every youngster wants to be like Salah.
05:32But I'm not too sure that all of them are keen to go through what Salah went through.
05:37It wasn't easy for him at first.
05:40He didn't play much in many clubs, but kept fighting and working, and it paid off.
05:46That is why he must be an example.
05:49For me, it's been a great pleasure.
