Political Leader of the PNM Tobago Council, Ancil Dennis, says he is not stepping aside.

Speaking with TV6 News on Saturday, Dennis made it clear that he has no intention of resigning, even as the party navigates a period of transition following its defeat at the polls.

His comments come amid growing internal changes within the Tobago Council, including the resignation of the party's Election Officer, the third executive resignation so far.

Elizabeth Williams reports.

00:00So there's an internal election coming, right?
00:03At that point in time, there'll be an opportunity to transition to a new executive,
00:10which will include, which will also include a political leader.
00:15So I've never said I will resign, and I have no intention to resign or anything like that.
00:21Mr. Dennis's position marks a clarification of comments he made in the aftermath of the Tobago PNM's 50-0 defeat in the January 12th THA election,
00:33remarks which some interpreted as signaling his departure from frontline politics.
00:40I intend to support a transition to new leadership within the Tobago Council of the People's National Movement.
00:47I will be 29 on Wednesday, and I will be calling it a day or perhaps a week in politics.
01:01Mr. Dennis now insists those comments were not an indication of resignation,
01:06stressing instead that leadership change will come through the party's internal democratic process.
01:13The party is going to have an internal election soon, within a couple of months,
01:18and a new executive, including a new political leader, of course, will be elected by the membership of the party.
01:26Meanwhile, chairman of the PNM Tobago Council, Larry Paul, has confirmed the resignation of election officer Clit Wilson.
01:35TV6 News understands the resignation was read at a recent meeting of the executive council.
01:41Yes, we received a letter indicating that a new is going from the executive.
01:50But, you know, as I said, right now we are in transition mode because we are not preparing for entire elections.
01:57So in a few weeks, all cease to become vacant and open for new nominations.
02:03When contacted, Mr. Wilson confirmed his resignation, not only from the PNM Tobago Council, but also from the party itself, citing personal reasons.
02:13He added that the people of Tobago have spoken when asked about the party's decisive loss at the polls.
