00:00Tobago will be having, sorry, a January election.
00:03Well, based on the law, once the house is dissolved,
00:07we have two to three months thereafter to have the election.
00:10More than that, we have to also pay attention to the starter requirement
00:16in terms of what happens between when the writ is issued for the election
00:21and EBC doing the necessaries.
00:24So the election can be any time.
00:27Political leader of the Tobago People's Party, Farley Augustine,
00:31says the decision on when Tobagonians will go to the polls
00:35is still being weighed carefully.
00:37The decision that we have to make is whether the house will dissolve
00:41on its anniversary for itself or whether the house will meet
00:46and decide to dissolve prior to.
00:48That has not been decided as yet and that will ultimately trigger
00:51when election could possibly be called.
00:54Following last Friday's close of nominations,
00:58Mr. Augustine confirmed that 55 persons have put their names forward
01:04to represent the party.
01:06He described the process as highly competitive,
01:10noting that screening will determine the final slate of candidates.
01:15But our process is moving.
01:16It's pretty competitive in some districts.
01:20From the report, I have seen I think the most competitive district
01:24will be Bethel district in terms of the number of nominees.
01:29Bonacord, Canaan, close behind in terms of competitiveness.
01:34But we have essentially quite a stiff competition in most areas.
01:40He adds that nomination does not guarantee candidacy
01:44as the party seeks to ensure that only the most suitable representatives
01:50are selected.
