Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley will resign before the next general elections. Speaking in Tobago at a media conference on Friday, the Prime Minister said he would not be seeking re-election. Elizabeth Williams attended the media conference and has this report.

00:00I'm here with my colleagues this weekend and what one of the things that they
00:07will be told is that I will not offering myself again to represent anyone either
00:17in Trinidad or in Tobago. 45 years is a long time and I would like at this time
00:26to thank you appropriately along the way to all those who have supported my
00:33effort and benefited from I hope I would have positively impacted this country.
00:41Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said he remains the political leader of the PNM
00:46at this time. As we settle Tobago screening tomorrow I continue to be the
00:53political leader of the PNM. We will call for nominations in the other seats
00:59where I represent the people of Diego Martinez who have supported me
01:04resolutely from 1991 to now and I will thank them appropriately and then show
01:13that they are not left adrift but I will not be offering myself as I just said.
01:20Dr. Rowley said he also intends to give up his office before the nation goes to
01:25the polls. I want to say something else before the end of the legal limits of
01:32this term I will resign this office and go off to my family. Thank you all very
01:38much and see you again sometime soon. Dr. Rowley said his decision today is a
01:42promise kept. At the last election 2020 when I announced the PNM victory in
01:51Balise House I said to this country I will not be doing that again and I meant
