00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe. Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:15Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun. Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:29Flip, plop, hear the rain dripping on my head again. My raincoat on as I sing my song with a splish splash, splish splash, splotch.
00:49Flip, plop, hear the rain dripping on my head again. My wellies on as I sing this song with a splish splash, splish splash, plosh.
01:01Hello everyone, welcome to our cafe. The best cafe in the world. Hello everyone.
01:10Ben, you look a bit wet. A bit wet? A bit wet? Small? I'm as drippy as a raindrop, as soggy as a wet mop, as damp as a dishcloth.
01:23And worst of all, I've got a pond in each of my welly boots.
01:32If you've got a pond in each of your welly boots, Ben, does that mean you've got some ducks for me to feed?
01:38It's only that I'd like to give some bread to the ducks. Come and get some bread, little duckies.
01:45Hey, it isn't funny, little cook. You wouldn't like it if your feet were all soggy. I just wish the rain would go away.
01:53Hey, I know a rhyme about that. Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.
02:02But I don't want the rain to come back again another day, even if we had enough rain to last forever.
02:08Rain, rain, go to Spain, never show your face again. That's the rhyme for me.
02:13But we need the rain, Ben. Rain is really useful. All the water we use comes from the rain.
02:20The water we drink. Glug, glug, glug, glug, glug. The water we bathe in. The water we wash our clothes in. Rinse, rinse.
02:28And as for the flowers, plants and trees, if they didn't have rain, they wouldn't be able to grow.
02:35OK, you're right, Small. We do need rain. It's just I'm a bit fed up of being soggy all the time.
02:41What about a bit of sunshine from time to time? Sunshine's good as well, you know.
02:48Oh, well, there's no time for moaning about the weather now, little cook. Sounds like we've got a customer.
02:53I'm on my way. Woo-hoo!
03:05Who's our customer today, Small?
03:07Well, it's someone who's on the telly.
03:10Well, there are lots of people on the telly, Small. You'd better give us another clue.
03:15Well, she's always got a map by her side.
03:17Hmm, someone who's on the telly and has a map.
03:21Here's one more clue. She knows all about the weather.
03:25Hey, I know. It's Wendy the weather forecaster.
03:29That's right, Ben.
03:30Now, how can we decide what to cook for a hungry weather forecaster?
03:34I think it's time to look in my book.
03:36We need a story to help us cook.
03:49Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
03:52Little Cook's Adventures in the Big World. Let me see.
03:57I was on my holiday. I had packed sunglasses, shorts, umbrella, raincoat, Wellington boots and a woolly hat.
04:08I brought everything as I was unsure what the weather would be like.
04:11I was wondering what to do when I saw a sign saying, Tours of the television studio this way.
04:18How exciting, I thought. I can see something being filmed.
04:23I was just in time to see Wendy the weather forecaster do her weather report.
04:29A weather forecaster tells us if it's going to be sunny or rainy or even snowy.
04:36It was Wendy's first day in the job and she looked very nervous.
04:41She was practicing what to say.
04:43Sun, then snow and last of all rain.
04:48I listened really carefully.
04:50Sun, snow and rain.
04:54Suddenly a man began to count down.
04:57Three, two, one and it was Wendy's big moment.
05:02She was on television.
05:04Wendy stood and stared and then she started to speak.
05:08The weather will be...
05:13Oh dear!
05:14Wendy had forgotten what to say.
05:17I thought quickly and opened up my suitcase.
05:21I remembered what came first and as quick as a flash changed into my sunny outfit with sunglasses, shorts, sandals and t-shirts.
05:30Wendy saw me and said, this morning there will be sun.
05:35Then I delved back into my suitcase and came up wearing a woolly scarf, hat and gloves.
05:41Wendy continued, at lunch time there will be snow.
05:46And finally I came up wearing a raincoat, wellingtons and holding an umbrella.
05:51And this afternoon there will be rain, said Wendy.
05:55She was perfect.
05:57The forecast was finished and everyone clapped.
06:00Wendy had done a really good job on her first day.
06:04Wendy was so happy and to say thank you she took me on a tour of the city.
06:10Wahey!
06:11Little cook to the rescue once again.
06:15That was a great adventure.
06:17Whoa!
06:18Wendy had a great first day and remembered everything she had to say.
06:22Thanks to your quick thinking little cook.
06:25Wahey!
06:26Well I like to help if I can.
06:29But we still don't know what to cook for Wendy, do we?
06:32I know, big cook's big cookery book.
06:43Of course, the big cookery book.
06:46There's recipes for everything in there.
06:48And where do we look for things to cook?
06:51In the book.
06:52In the book.
06:53In big cook's book.
06:55Oh, that recipe looks perfect for a weather forecaster.
06:59Cauliflower clouds.
07:01Come on then little cook.
07:02You read out the ingredients and I'll see if we've got them.
07:05OK, let's see.
07:06We're going to need milk.
07:08OK, milk.
07:09Here we go.
07:10In the fridge.
07:11OK, milk.
07:12Got it small.
07:13Cheddar cheese.
07:14Oh-ho!
07:15Well you've got to say please if you want cheddar cheese.
07:17Please.
07:18Wahey!
07:19Yep.
07:20Got the cheese small.
07:21Butter.
07:22In the fridge as well.
07:23Butter.
07:24Got it.
07:25Plain flour.
07:26That should be in the cupboard.
07:28Over we go.
07:29Plain flour.
07:30Got that too small.
07:31And cauliflower.
07:33Cauliflower.
07:34Oh, right.
07:35OK.
07:36I'm afraid we're out of luck little cook.
07:38We haven't got any cauliflower.
07:39Oh no.
07:40But we have got everything else we need for the recipe.
07:44So why don't you whizz off and get one and I'll get everything ready.
07:47That's a great idea.
07:49See you later.
07:50Hoo-hoo-hoo!
07:51Hey!
07:52Why don't you come along too?
07:54Whee-hey!
07:55Go small!
07:56Go small!
07:57Whizz away!
07:58I wonder what he'll see today.
08:00Go small!
08:01Go small!
08:02Go small!
08:03Whizz away!
08:04I wonder what he'll see today.
08:07Let's bake at grill.
08:08Woof-hoo!
08:11It's a good time.
08:12Whizz away!
08:13Here.
08:14This is where cauliflower grow.
08:18Cauliflower crop is a revenue scavengoal and they grow in the ground.
08:22Now, where's the white cauliflower?
08:27There it is.
08:29It grows in the middle of the plant, protected by the big green leaves.
08:34This is a field of cauliflowers that are ready for picking.
08:37They're being harvested.
08:39The men are picking the cauliflowers.
08:42Mmm, that's a nice one.
08:45Wow, look at that green tractor.
08:47It's pulling the machine that collects the cauliflowers.
08:51It's got enormous wheels.
08:55Here come the cauliflowers.
08:59Whee! Around they go.
09:05Now the cauliflowers have to be packed.
09:09They're put in a bag and then in a box, fresh from the field and ready to go to the shops.
09:15I've got mine. See you back at the cafe.
09:23There we go.
09:25Hey, I've thought of another rain rhyme.
09:27It's a bit of a tongue twister.
09:30I've had enough of raindrops drip, drop, dripping on my head.
09:34I wish the drops of raindrops drip would drop on you instead.
09:39Ho, ho, ho.
09:40Only joking. I don't really want you to get wet.
09:43Wahey! I'm back!
09:46And guess what?
09:47Cauliflowers aren't flowers at all.
09:49They're a vegetable that grow in the ground.
09:52They look like white fluffy clouds.
09:54And I've brought back one for the recipe.
09:56Woo, ho, ho.
10:00That looks delicious, Small.
10:02Come on, we better get cooking.
10:04We're all ready, so take a look.
10:06And we will show you how to cook.
10:08The jelly boats and pirates go, princess pea pies.
10:16Parrot cakes and fruity smiles.
10:18And envelopes surprise.
10:20We love our cafe and we love to cook.
10:23We have a fantastic recipe book.
10:27He is big cook and he is small.
10:33Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:37When your tummy gets all rumbly, you're ready for a treat.
10:43You can make something delicious to eat.
10:52Have you cleaned the surfaces?
10:54Yes.
10:55Have you washed your hands?
10:56Yes.
10:57All clean and ready to cook.
11:00Do you remember the ingredients, the cauliflower clouds?
11:04You do.
11:05There was milk.
11:06300 millilitres.
11:08Cheddar cheese.
11:09150 grams.
11:10Finely grated.
11:11Butter.
11:1250 grams.
11:13Plain flour.
11:1450 grams.
11:15And cauliflower.
11:17One small yummy cauliflower.
11:20Whoopee, let's get started.
11:22The first thing you need to do is ask your grown-up helper
11:25to cut the leaves off the cauliflower and the hard stalk.
11:32Now, I'm going to break the cauliflower into florets like this.
11:37There we go.
11:39And then, I'm going to take it over to the hob.
11:43So, I'm going to put the cauliflower into a steamer like this.
11:50In it goes.
11:52And onto the water.
11:57And on goes the lid.
12:01And remember, this is a job for your grown-up helper to do.
12:03Because it's a hob job.
12:05And the hob is hot, hot, hot.
12:07It needs to steam for about five minutes until it's soft.
12:10It's raining.
12:14It's pouring.
12:15What's that map for?
12:17I'm pretending to be a weather forecaster, like Wendy.
12:21It's been raining today, so I'm going to stick these dark clouds everywhere.
12:26Rain.
12:28Rain.
12:29And more rain.
12:31Oh, lovely weather for ducks.
12:35In your wellies.
12:38Now, once the cauliflower's just soft, but not too soft,
12:42turn off the heat and ask your grown-up helper
12:45to put the cauliflower into an ovenproof dish.
12:49Like this.
12:52There we are.
12:55In it goes.
12:56There we go.
13:01And now it's time to make the sauce.
13:03Would you like to know what the weather's like now, Ben?
13:06Oh, good idea, Small.
13:08We'll just go over to Little Cook Small in the weather studios
13:10for a weather update.
13:12Oh, bad news, I'm afraid.
13:15It's still raining.
13:16And now there's thunderous thunder and streaky lightning.
13:23Right.
13:23Now we're going to make a sauce to put over the cauliflower.
13:26So, ask your grown-up helper
13:28to put the butter
13:29into a saucepan
13:31and melt it over a gentle heat.
13:38There we go.
13:43Wahey!
13:44This is perfect!
13:46When the butter is melted, add the flour
13:53and stir it to make a roux,
13:59which is a sort of paste.
14:04This is starting to look good now.
14:06It sounds a bit like thunder, doesn't it?
14:17Yes, it does, Small.
14:20Now it's time to add the milk.
14:25Bit by bit
14:26until the sauce thickens.
14:29And don't forget to keep stirring.
14:32I think I'll be stirring for some time.
14:35So, let's go over to Little Cook for another weather check.
14:38We're fed up with the rain, thunder and lightning,
14:40so we're taking it all off.
14:42Woo-hoo-hoo!
14:43Oh, at last, some sunshine.
14:48Sorry, Ben.
14:49No sunshine, just lots of strong winds.
14:53Whoosh, whoosh, whoo-hoo!
14:56And snowstorms in the north,
15:02the south,
15:03the east
15:07and the west.
15:11The weather's getting worse!
15:13Ho-ho!
15:15Right.
15:16This sauce is looking nice and thick now,
15:19so it's time to add the cheese.
15:23There we go.
15:25But not all of the cheese,
15:27save a little bit till later.
15:29What's the weather doing now, Small?
15:33Ho-ho-ho!
15:34No weather at the moment, Ben,
15:36because all my weather's fallen off!
15:38Ha-ha-ha!
15:39Ho-ho!
15:39Oh, dear, Small!
15:41Right.
15:42I've put the cauliflower
15:43onto a nice sky-blue plate.
15:46Look!
15:47They're like little clouds.
15:48Hee-hee!
15:49And now,
15:50we can pour the cheesy mixture
15:52over the top.
15:54This smells delicious!
16:01Hoo-hoo!
16:06And sprinkle the cheese
16:08over the top.
