Three grade KP2 immigration officers and a restaurant owner were charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court on Wednesday (Jan 21) for receiving bribes related to counter-setting issues between two and three years ago.

00:20Hairizam Mohamed and restaurant owner Hazlan Hazila pleaded not guilty after the charges
00:25were read out separately before Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail. Mohamed Azhar, an immigration
00:32officer, was charged with 14 counts of agreeing to accept bribes totaling RM28,600 via online bank
00:41transfers from a woman. He allegedly committed the act as a civil servant responsible for checking
00:47and ensuring that foreign nationals' travel documents for entering and leaving Malaysia
00:52were valid. Rizal faces two charges of accepting bribes totaling RM1,700 from a male agent as an
01:01immigration officer at the Pasir Gudang Terminal C entry and exit gate jetty for not conducting
01:08thorough inspections of Indonesian citizens' travel documents. Hairizam, who works at the Pasir Gudang
01:15Ferry Terminal Operation Control Division, is accused of accepting a bribe totaling RM100 from a man
01:21to facilitate the entry of Indonesian travellers into Malaysia. The fourth accused, Hazlan, is charged
01:28with accepting a bribe of RM1,200 from a man as an inducement to act as a middleman, facilitating the
01:36entry and exit of Indonesian travellers at a restaurant in Muach on November 11, 2024. The court set bail at
01:45RM10,000 for Mohammed Azhar while Rizal, Hairizam and Haslan were granted bail of RM8,000 with additional
01:54conditions to surrender their passports to the court and report to the nearby MACC headquarters once a month.
