Two former bank officers pleaded not guilty in the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Wednesday (Nov 12) to charges of accepting bribes and subsequently failing to report such gratifications, purportedly received for recommending a legal firm for the preparation of loan documentation

‎‎Nadiah Zakaria, 33, and Abdul Rahman Shahrudin, 35, made the plea after the charges were read out to them separately before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

00:19Thirty-three-year-old Nadia Zakaria and Abdul Rahman Shahruddin, aged 35, made the plea after
00:26the charges were read out to them separately before Judge Awang Karisnada Awang Mahmood.
00:32Nadia faced 12 charges, six with accepting bribes and six alternative charges with failing
00:38to report the gratification.
00:40The former mortgage sales consultant is alleged to have received bribes, totaling 11,444 ringgit
00:48from the bank account of a law firm as gratification for recommending the firm to prepare 11 home
00:54financing loan agreements worth 3.2 million ringgit.
00:59All the offences were allegedly committed at a bank branch in Shah Alam in 2021 and 2022.
01:06Abdul Rahman, also a former mortgage sales consultant, faced 14 charges, seven for accepting bribes
01:13totaling 7,366 ringgit and seven alternative charges for failing to report receiving the
01:21money as gratification purportedly for recommending the same legal firm to prepare 10 home financing
01:27loan agreements worth 2.61 million ringgit.
01:31The money from the same legal firm was deposited into a bank account belonging to his wife.
01:36Abdul Rahman was accused of committing the offences at a bank branch in Shah Alam in 2018 and 2019.
01:44Before accepting bribes, both accused faced 20 years imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
01:50For failing to report the gratification to the M.A.C.C. or the police, they face a maximum
01:56fine of 100,000 ringgit or imprisonment for up to 10 years or both if convicted.
02:03The court allowed Nadia and Abdul Rahman bail of 6,000 ringgit and 5,000 ringgit respectively.
02:10They were also ordered to report to the nearest M.A.C.C. office, surrender their passports to
02:15the court and not interfere with prosecution witnesses.
02:19Nadia, who is in her late stage of pregnancy, is exempt from having to report to the M.A.C.C.
02:25until she has given birth.
02:40The court allowed to report to the B.A.C.C.
