Bicycling's Dan Chabanov gives his take on setting tire pressure in cold weather.
Transcript
00:00All right, so something I've been thinking about, a bit of PSA for everybody that's riding this
00:04winter and heading into colder temperatures. If you inflate your tires in your warm house
00:09and it's 70 degrees when you inflate your tires and you go out into something dramatically colder
00:14like a 30 degree Pennsylvania day right now, your tire pressure will change pretty dramatically.
00:20One thing you can do is use a tire pressure calculator that includes temperature compensation.
00:25The one I'm thinking of is from Wolf Tooth. You can enter the tire, the temperature at which you're
00:31inflating and the temperature at which you'll be expecting to ride and it will give you a pressure
00:35to inflate too. And then another thing to keep in mind is your tires also just don't work that well
00:41when they're cold. You know, cold rubber is harder so it doesn't grip as well, it doesn't roll as fast.
00:48These are things just to think about as we kind of get into the next few months of cold winter riding
00:52until our tires get fast again.
