00:00Good afternoon. The dry and settled weather is set to continue through the course of today
00:04and indeed through the weekend as well, with high pressure dominating into next week. Now
00:09it's a fairly cloudy picture out there this afternoon across the south, certainly a cloudier
00:13day compared to yesterday. We've also got a fair bit of cloud coming into parts of southeast
00:17Scotland, northeast England and also generally some thicker cloud across the very far northeast
00:21of Scotland. This cloud will actually bring a few spots of drizzle in places too. There's
00:26also some fog patches across the Murray Firth region and temperatures here could locally
00:30stay below freezing through the course of this afternoon. And whilst the winds are generally
00:34lighter compared to yesterday, there are some pretty gusty conditions across the higher ground
00:39of Wales and the Pennines here, gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour at least. So certainly
00:44feeling fairly cold in that wind once again. Temperatures a little bit below par for the
00:49time of year, five or six degrees for many of us and when you factor in the breeze in
00:53the south in particular, it will still feel more like freezing. So another cold day, another
00:58day to wrap up warmly if you are out for a Boxing Day walk. It stays similar as we go
01:04through into this evening. The fog across the north of Scotland should slowly tend to lift
01:08as cloud amounts increase from the north and elsewhere across the UK a mixture of cloud and
01:13clear spells. Where skies do stay clear throughout the night then we are like to see a fairly widespread
01:18frost and in the countryside temperatures will fall several degrees below freezing. In the towns in the city,
01:23the seas probably staying just above freezing but I wouldn't want to rule out some frost locally.
01:28Now as we go into Saturday, it's going to be a somewhat different day for some of us. There
01:33will generally be much more on the way of clouds spreading southeastwards across Scotland, moving
01:38into northeastern parts of England and through the day the cloud will tend to shift its way a little
01:42bit more towards the west. So parts of Wales and southern England will also turn cloudier after a sunny morning.
01:48So the best of the sunshine by the afternoon, generally speaking across parts of western Scotland,
01:52northern Ireland, the west of Wales and the southwest of England. Through the day it will turn windier,
01:58particularly in the south of the UK. Again widely gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour giving a
02:02fairly notable wind chill but despite that temperature is actually a degree or two higher
02:07for most of us on Saturday compared to today. So highs of seven, perhaps up to locally nine degrees
02:12celsius. Quite a lot of cloud on Saturday night so a less frosty start to the day for most of us on
02:19Sunday but generally a fairly grey and cloudy day to come for most. The best of the brightness and
02:25sunshine on Sunday probably across more mainland parts of Scotland and some other western fringes of
02:30the UK. Maybe some sunshine coming into the very far southeast through the afternoon as well. The winds
02:36will be lighter on Sunday and temperatures will be similar to recent days, around average for the time of
02:40year highs of six to eight degrees. Whatever you're up to through the rest of Boxing Day, I do hope you
