A Christmas Eve killing in Valsayn has left a community in shock, following the death of a 68-year-old woman inside her home.
Police say a man believed to be in a relationship with the victim is now under guard at hospital as investigations continue.

00:00A 68-year-old woman was found dead inside her home at No. 2 Nanan Street, Bamboo No.
00:051, Valsain, early Christmas Eve morning.
00:09She has been identified as Safina Hossain Madhu.
00:12Police say officers from the St. Joseph police station were dispatched to the location shortly
00:17after 12.49 a.m. following reports of a killing.
00:21On arrival, officers met a 40-year-old female relative from Takarigua who told police she
00:27had earlier received a disturbing call from another family member.
00:31She reported that Madhu's boyfriend, a 60-year-old man who had been living with her for about two years,
00:37went to the home and confessed that he had killed the woman and ingested a poisonous substance.
00:43Police were taken to the eastern side of the house where a wooden door was found ajar.
00:48Inside, officers discovered Madhu lying motionless on her back.
00:52Her dress was stained with blood. A man was observed on the ground next to her.
00:56He was questioned and reportedly admitted to beating the woman.
01:00As a result, he was immediately detained.
01:02He appeared unwell and told officers he had ingested a toxic substance.
01:07And as a result, he was taken by ambulance to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex
01:12under police escort.
01:14When TV6 visited the area today, relatives were not at home,
01:18but neighbors described Madhu as a well-loved and respected member of the community.
01:23Residents told TV6 she operated a small shop and was a mother of four and a grandmother of eight.
