22 December - National morning forecast presented by Liam Eslick.
Transcript
00:01Hello there. It's going to be a cloudy start as we start Christmas week, but as we head
00:05towards the big day, things will start to turn a little bit colder as we reach the 25th
00:09of December. But for today at least, we do have some rain across Scotland and Northern
00:14Ireland. It may just be heavy at times as it does clear its way off towards the north,
00:19but further south it is going to be a drier afternoon to come. Still plenty of cloud around,
00:24but there will be a few breaks across the southwest, the east and the northeast of England,
00:29and maybe just a few breaks across Scotland as well once that rain does clear. It will be another
00:34mild day to come though. Temperatures around 11 or 12 degrees across the south, maybe across Scotland
00:39it may just be a little bit fresher, around 9 or 10 degrees. Now as we go through this afternoon
00:45and evening, a lot of that cloud will start to thicken and any gaps within that cloud will slowly
00:49start to fill in. It may just be thick enough again across Wales to bring some outbreaks of some light
00:54rain and we do have a few showers developing across the southwest as well. But under that cloud,
01:00it's still going to be a frost-free night, lows of around 3 or 4 degrees, maybe a little bit cooler
01:06where we do have a couple of breaks across the western half of Scotland. So the temperatures may just
01:09dip a little bit lower around here first thing on Tuesday morning. Now Tuesday again is going to be
01:16a pretty murky day. There is still plenty of cloud around coming in off the North Sea. Those showers
01:22towards the southwest will eventually clear in towards the Celtic Sea. But the best of the
01:25brightness will be across the western half of Scotland at first thing. But even here,
01:30the cloud will fill in those gaps through the afternoon again. And the cloud is going to be
01:35thick once again. So where we do have the cloud thickest across hills, across Scotland, the Pennines
01:41and Wales, it will be thick enough to bring some outbreaks of some light rain and drizzle
01:45and quite a lot of hill fog here as well. So do take care if you are travelling just before
01:49the Christmas period. It will be a fresher feel as well though. Temperatures maybe just one or two
01:54degrees lower than what we've seen. Highs of around 10 towards the southwest. But for the majority
01:58of the UK, we're probably looking around highs of seven or eight degrees to end Tuesday.
02:04Now as we head towards the Christmas period, we have this high pressure building towards the
02:09north of the UK. And you'll see there is plenty of cloud being drawn in from the east. And again,
02:14it could bring some light rain and drizzle at times. But it is also bringing in this cold air mass
02:18from the continent as well. And the squeeze of those ice bars will mean it will be a little
02:22bit more windy as well. Still a little bit more mild across the north. So clinging on to that mild
02:28air mass. But for the majority of the UK, it will be a colder end towards the week as we start a
02:33Christmas day as well. Now as we head towards Christmas day, a lot of that detail may just be
02:38tweaked as we reach the big day. But for all the details on that, don't forget to head over
