Reaction to the Miami Dolphins loss on MNF in Pittsburgh last night including another poor performance from Tua.
Transcript
00:00Anyway, statistically, last night, if I told you that Tua would finish 22 of 28 for 254
00:09yards, two tutties, one pick, and a 113.4 passer rating, and it's only his fifth game
00:17with a 100-plus passer rating this season, you know, you'd say, hey, God put together
00:24a little game.
00:26You would have.
00:27I'm so stuck about those numbers compared to the outcome, because we all watch the game
00:32snap for snap.
00:34No, you don't need to be stuck on those numbers.
00:35Those numbers were pure garbage.
00:37I could have put up, they were playing such soft defense at the end, they had a four-touchdown
00:41lead just about.
00:43That defense was so soft, the win was already in the books for them.
00:48He was awful.
00:49And you know, I love Tua.
00:51I've been a big Tua supporter.
00:53He was awful.
00:54It is so beyond apparent that he is a small percentage of what he was.
01:04Solana never liked him in the first place.
01:07He never looked this bad.
01:09Nope, no.
01:09Ever.
01:10He never looked this immobile.
01:13Ever.
01:13It's crazy when a pocket starts collapse or when he just starts moving the internal thoughts
01:22that one has is amazing to me.
01:25Like he has, when I say zero mobility, I mean zero and by the way, zero awareness of what's
01:34going on around him or behind him.
01:36Yeah.
01:37Oh, that sack when he ran to his left and just let the big linebacker run up and grab
01:41his legs.
01:42Unbelievable.
01:44Throw the ball out of bounds.
01:45Like, honestly, he could have thrown, he was outside the pocket.
01:49He could have slung it out of bounds.
01:50He was running to his left.
01:51He could have threw it out of bounds and it would have just been third and eight.
01:55No, no, no.
01:56I'm a big fan of third and 22.
01:58That's what I want to get into.
02:00He looked tough.
02:03We, we watched, we, yes, Buffalo, Buffalo, England with bake.
02:07Um, what's his name?
02:08Uh, Drake may and Josh Allen.
02:10And then I watched the Indy game.
02:12He scrambles closer to the 44 year old Phillip rivers than he does towards the other two guys
02:18in the AFC East.
02:19I believe I'm not even kidding you.
02:22If, if someone said to you, you're going to need one scramble from a quarterback.
02:30To get you a first down in some scenario, who would it be?
02:35Phillip rivers or to a tongue of Iloa.
02:37I think I would go with rivers just because he's got that mindset where he doesn't want
02:45to be brought down to it.
02:46Doesn't seem to have that mindset.
02:48He crumples.
02:50It's crazy watching it.
02:52Are you guys surprised about this Crowder?
02:54I am for the past two years, actually three seasons.
02:58All we've heard is people talking about Tua's head injuries.
03:02Can Tua stay healthy?
03:04He's one more head injury away from being forced to retire.
03:08He's one more head injury away from everybody in the NFL.
03:12Just being again, uncomfortable with him returning from being the talk of the league in terms of
03:17concussions that has to wear on somebody three seasons, multiple concussions, multiple times.
03:25Have you seen how many times Jackson Dart has been in concussion protocol this season?
03:29More times than Tua's entire career.
03:31That's right.
03:31This season only.
03:32Where's that narrative?
03:33Where's that talk?
03:34I'm with you.
03:35I'm not telling you it's the correct way to go about it.
03:37But I'm just saying, if you think about it rationally, Tua absorbing all of that.
03:43Miss me with that.
03:43He doesn't pay attention.
03:44He's on CNN, Fox News, all the major networks fencing.
03:49And everybody has an opinion on it.
03:51That has to wear on him, especially everybody around him telling him, don't get hit.
03:55Don't get hit.
03:56Don't get hit.
03:57I mean, you're watching it.
03:58Somebody who's mentally not able to play the game the way he wants to play the game because
04:04he's so afraid of getting hit again.
04:06I don't think it's fear.
04:10I think it's like, because when you're in the pocket to get knocked down and to get a
04:16concussion, Solana, and I understand what you're saying.
04:18He doesn't want to get hit because he's heard so many times, you're fragile, you're fragile,
04:22fragile.
04:22If I tell you you're fragile for three years straight, you're going to believe you're fragile.
04:27Those plays weren't a fragile head injury play.
04:31That play, he got sacked that I was talking about when he rolled to his left and just let
04:35the dude run and grab his legs.
04:37You don't get hit and concussed on those plays.
04:40You have no pocket awareness to just, he could have, it wasn't a crossbody throw.
04:46He's left-handed.
04:48He's, it's almost worse than what you're asking me.
04:52He forgot how to play quarterback at a high level more than scared of injury.
04:57He's physically limited.
04:59He is.
05:00I mean, this happens.
05:01This happens with that.
05:02Out of bounds.
05:04Very rarely.
05:05Well, yeah.
05:05No, he's lost his ability to be an effective quarterback.
05:08You're right.
05:09He's lost his ability to be an effective quarterback.
05:13And that obviously doesn't bode well for next season where we're all kind of convinced.
05:18Do you have the sound, Jimmy, from Mike McDaniel?
05:21This was after the game, you know.
05:23So a lot of us saying, hey, bench Tua for Quinn Ewers or Zach Wilson.
05:28And I said, until you're mathematically eliminated.
05:31Now, I believe you have to have the conversation, not just about Tua, about Devon Achan, about Jordan Brooks, about Jalen Waddell.
05:40I mean, you have select talented players on this roster.
05:45Why would you risk injury to any of them the remainder of the season?
05:50So they can go out there and play football.
05:52And Devon Achan can have Pro Bowl numbers and Jordan Brooks can lead the NFL in tackles.
05:57All right.
05:58That's why.
05:58That's the answer.
05:59Because people get injured.
06:01We saw two major injuries this weekend.
06:04Two.
06:05Right?
06:06Yes.
06:06We saw Patrick Mahomes go down.
06:09He's going to be ACL.
06:11We saw Micah Parsons go down ACL.
06:14And I'm telling you, if you're going to have the conversation about Tua and having him ride the bench the rest of the season,
06:20you've got to have the conversation about H.N., Waddell, Brooks, and anyone else that has value.
06:27I'm not kidding you.
06:28Like, what is the point?
06:30Anyway, here is Mike McDaniel was asked last night after the game, have you given consideration to benching Tua?
06:38Yeah, I think it would be very rash and short-sighted if I even tried to tackle that option.
06:53You know, I think I have to look at the tape and I'll move on from there.
06:59But realistically, I'm just supremely disappointed that, you know, we couldn't come out with a win here.
07:06We had high expectations and they fell short.
07:09Now, Tua is having, or Mike McDaniel is having his Monday press conference now, which is really Tuesday.
07:16They're back.
07:18And so what's the latest update?
07:20Because Solana, he's just speaking about this again.
07:22He's speaking right now.
07:23This is from David Furones.
07:26Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters in Miami Gardens that there is the potential of benching Tua
07:32and making a change at quarterback quote.
07:35The quarterback play last night was not good enough.
07:39Everything is on the table.
07:42What is everything?
07:45Zach and Quinn?
07:46Well, I mean, what else?
07:47Are you going to go out and get Phillip Rivers?
07:49I'm just saying, that's everything.
07:50That's everything we have to throw at him.
07:52Zach and Quinn?
07:53Like, what are we...
07:54Yeah, that's...
07:55But what are...
07:56Hawk, what are we doing trying to find our next backup to our next quarterback
08:00after we pay Tua $50 million next year?
08:03I'm not saying Tua needs to play.
08:05I'm just saying, what are we doing as an organization...
08:08I agree.
08:09...when they're on the table?
08:10I agree.
08:11It's Quinn Ewers.
08:12I don't know how...
08:13What would be the point of Zach Wilson other than to say, hey, we did identify a really
08:20good backup because that was Mike McDaniel said he handpicked him, right?
08:23So, if he wants to say, hey, look, I do see here in the final three games what we thought
08:29we had with Zach Wilson, unless they genuinely believe Zach Wilson could start here next season
08:37because he's going to have the type of career resurgence that a Sam Darnold had with Seattle
08:43or with Minnesota, now Seattle, or Daniel Jones had with Indianapolis, unless McDaniel
08:49truly believes that to his core.
08:51And that could be a bargaining chip for him to go to Steve Ross and say, hey, look, I found
08:57this guy, developed him, I gave him a second chance.
08:59He has the potential of actually being a really good quarterback here next year.
09:03There is zero reason to start Zach Wilson, and nobody's going to convince me that that's
09:09a reality.
09:09Zach Wilson here next year starting for the Dolphins.
09:12Like, if next year my options are Tua or Zach Wilson again, I won't be a Dolphins fan anymore.
09:19Would you like to know, though, if Zach Wilson is a quality-capable backup?
09:24No, because if next year, after Stephen Ross put out that memo, that status quo won't be
09:32good enough this year, and you literally are 6-8 entering Week 16, which is exactly what
09:38you were last year after losing to the Texans on the road, and you put up an even more pitiful
09:43performance after being hot on a four-game win streak, and you come back next year with
09:48Tua Tonga-Vailoa or Zach Wilson as your quarterback options, nobody should be a Dolphins fan next
09:55year.
09:55Nobody.
09:56Because then Stephen Ross is full of bleep, and you're literally telling everybody status
10:01quo is fine.
10:02But how do you know about Zach Wilson until you see him?
10:04Because I've seen Zach Wilson.
10:05I don't care.
10:06I don't care.
10:06But, Huck, what are we trying to figure out?
10:10Now, if Zach Wilson is a good number two, if Quinn Ewers is a starter, what are we trying
10:16to figure out by benching Tua?
10:18No, I'm with you.
10:20Everyone knows Tua's not long for the team.
10:24You may get another season with them just because of economic realities, but everyone knows Tua's
10:30not long for the team.
10:31So the question is, can they get someone through a trade?
10:34Can they get someone in the draft?
10:36Do they have to wait a season?
10:37But the grander answer is Tua, at most, has one season left with the Dolphins as a starter.
10:49Do you need to find out if Zach Wilson is an adequate backup?
10:53Probably.
10:54You didn't find it out this season.
10:55You gave him $6 million.
10:57You're telling me that their opinion of him changed by not seeing him?
11:01It wouldn't make any sense.
11:03They took a flyer on Quinn Ewers in the seventh round.
11:06They don't believe he's a quarterback of the future.
11:09They believe he's a placeholder.
11:10Could he be something?
11:11You never know.
11:12Seventh round picks have worked out to be something before, but I don't think, to Crowder's point,
11:16I don't think there's much on the table.
11:19It's not like you've got J.J.
11:21McCarthy sitting behind Kirk Cousins and you go, I got to see what I have with J.J.
11:27McCarthy.
11:27That doesn't exist on this team right now.
11:30So, the quarterback of the future is not Zach Wilson, is not Quinn Ewers.
11:37That's my belief, and I would imagine that's their belief as well.
11:40Now, how they find the quarterback of the future, that's up to them to figure it out.
11:45And then, who is the – are we trying to find the best chance to – and I'm not – this is way above our pay grade.
11:52Are we trying to find the best chance to beat the next three teams, or are we trying to evaluate people?
11:59Like, it just got real ugly in that building for the upstairs.
12:03It's a different question, right?
12:04Because for Mike McDaniel, he wants to win the next three games.
12:07But are we?
12:08Champ – he wants to.
12:10He wants to.
12:11It does him no good not to win the three games.
12:14So, he wants to.
12:15There's no question.
12:16There's not even – there's not even a gray area.
12:19Does Champ Kelly want to win the next three games?
12:21Does Stephen Ross want to win the next three games?
12:23I don't know.
12:24That's up to them to figure out.
12:27By the way, I don't think they're going to have much of a say in it anyway.
12:30Because they could field their best team.
12:33They're not going 3-0 in the next three games.
12:36They're not.
12:36And it doesn't matter if they do.
12:39Anyway, we have a lot to get to.
12:41I want to get to headlines here so that we don't get too far behind.
12:43Arande Gadsden is going to join us this hour.
12:46We have another $50 gift card for Twin Peaks to give away today.
12:50Twin Peaks.
12:51I was talking with Tobin.
12:52He was there last night with Leroy, the one in Davey.
12:54They had a great time.
12:56And we'll give away a $50 gift card for Twin Peaks every day this week, including today.
13:01Headlines brought to you by Doral Volkswagen, home of the Pricito, our lowest price.
13:05Visit them at Doral Volkswagen or DoralVolkswagen.com.
13:09Tua yesterday reminded me of Ryan Tannehill.
13:12Just in the sense of big game.
13:14You need a win.
13:15You're down 28-3.
13:17Now you start throwing touchdowns.
13:19So to answer your question to start the show, Hawk, did those numbers mean anything?
13:23No.
13:23Because the only time those numbers looked good and started to look decent are when you
13:29were in the hole 28-3 in the fourth quarter.
13:31Yeah, I never asked if those numbers meant anything because those numbers didn't mean anything.
13:34No, no, no, no, no.
13:36Okay, a quarterback.
13:37What was he, 22 of 28?
13:39Yeah.
13:39250 plus?
13:41Yep.
13:41Two touchdowns.
13:43Yep.
13:43Those are winning numbers.
13:44They usually are.
13:46No, they're not.
13:47They're not.
13:47They're not winning numbers.
13:49Salama, we watched the performance.
13:52We watched how he got those numbers.
13:54We saw that he had 63 yards in the first half.
13:59I watched the game.
14:01For Aaron Rodgers, those were winning numbers.
14:03He has the same numbers last night.
14:05He won.
14:05Those are winning numbers.
14:06No, they're not.
14:07You know why?
14:08Because look at the numbers at the end of the third quarter.
14:10That's where you have to look at the numbers.
14:12I got you.
14:13I'm just saying those numbers are winning numbers.
14:15Most quarterbacks come out with over 250 yards passing, 22 of 28, and 113 quarterback
14:22rating.
14:23They're winning numbers.
14:25Killed them.
14:26We need to try to trick another team into not watching games and just looking at numbers.
14:31You know what?
14:33He killed the Dolphins' playoff chances.
14:35They're done.
14:35That's it.
14:36It's over.
14:37They're not going to the playoffs.
14:39I'm 30 years old, 31.
14:41The Dolphins' 25 consecutive years will not make or will not win a playoff game.
14:50Yep.
14:50Why did they think DK Metcalf was a third grader and they're just going to grab him?
14:58That was funny, man.
14:59Man, he slammed by six people to the ground.
15:03Do y'all know how big this man is?
15:05That was crazy.
15:06And what about this Tomlin getting cutesy, throwing a toss play to Jonu Smith for a touchdown?
15:11Jonu Smith, 12-yard rushing cutty.
15:13I mean, just sticking it to them.
15:17I'll take him over, Ollie Gordon.
15:19He's like, oh, you're the run game guru?
15:21Watch this.
15:27The Miami Heat aren't doing much better, by the way.
15:30The only thing positive right now in South Florida is your haircut.
15:33He's got a boys in the hood haircut.
15:41It's just a bad angle from the camera.
15:44No, you look good, man.
15:45That's a good tape job.
15:46You do look good.
15:47He does.
15:48Temp-fade.
15:49When kid and play is on the mic, it's all right.
15:55You look like Doughboy.
15:57Thank you to the Florida Panthers.
16:03Thank you for playing a big game yesterday and winning.
16:07Yeah.
16:07In Tampa.
16:09You look like Drago off Rocky IV.
16:12That is.
16:12You got a little bit of a Drago working.
16:14I love it.
16:14I wish I could do that with my hair.
16:15I love that look.
16:17Yeah?
16:17Yeah.
16:19It looks good.
16:20It looks good.
16:20I wish I could do that.
16:21Even though my hairline used to start down here.
16:23Listen, it's still starting below where mine started.
16:26So, it looks thicker than it has in a long time.
16:31Did they add like a thickening spray or something?
16:33Yeah, a little Beijing.
16:35Did they?
16:36I'm being honest.
16:36No, no, no.
16:37It looks thicker than it has in a long time.
16:38No, but I went to a Cuban barbershop and I don't know what he did to my hair.
16:41They jump, pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa.
16:42And then all of a sudden, you have a full head of hair.
16:44Yeah.
16:45Got a little Jalen Brown.
16:46Where do you go, Jimmy?
16:48I go to a barbershop called Image.
16:51Image.
16:51You like it.
16:53And what do you ask them for when you walk in?
16:56I ask for a one and kind of like short my hair, but not too much.
17:02Oh, so you go to the barber, ask them to shorten your hair?
17:05I'm sure they don't hear that often.
17:10Hey, he does a great job.
17:11He does do a great job.
17:12Somebody says, Solana got the Ricky Martin post coming out.
17:15By the way, we have a big announcement coming up by 4 o'clock.
17:25My fiancee, I hope you're not listening.
17:29I think it looks good.
17:30I really do.
17:31Yeah, you live with me, the loka.
17:35The Heat lose yesterday.
17:44Just ridiculous.
17:45But I just want to say, regarding the Miami Heat quickly here, Niko Jovic genuinely had
17:49a really scary fall.
17:50They brought out the stretcher yesterday for Niko Jovic.
17:53And then he ended up running off the floor, smiling with his arm in an air cast.
17:57And the x-rays were negative yesterday, and I was just reading here in the Herald that
18:02the MRI also came back clean.
18:04So it looks like he just lacerated.
18:06They were being very, very cautious last night.
18:08I guess what everybody was afraid of was that there was so much blood on the ground, he lacerated
18:12his arm falling, which I've never seen before.
18:15But yeah.
18:17We can't right now.
18:19That team really changed.
18:20They lost five in a row.
18:22Something's off.
18:24And it wasn't Tyler Hero because he didn't play.
18:26Didn't play.
18:26But also weird.
18:27Late scratch.
18:28I don't know what's going on there.
18:30Right.
18:31Big toe contusion again.
18:33But I mean, hey, ice your toe, brother.
18:37All right, guys.
18:37Your weather in South Florida right now.
18:39It is partly cloudy tonight.
18:41The lows will be in the upper 60s, low 70s.

18:48All right.
18:48Thanks, Manila.
18:50Aranda Gadsden is going to join us in the next segment.
18:53All right.
18:53Mm-hmm.
18:53Thank you, man.
18:54All right.
18:54All right.
19:04All right.
