Miami Dolphins legend Kim Bokamper discusses the late interception by Tua Tagovailoa, adjustments by the defense and more takeaways from the Dolphins loss last night in Buffalo.
00:00All right. Kimbo Camper is on the Toyota of Hollywood hotline.
00:04Before we talk football, I remind you the best place to get geared up with Canes or Dolphins merch is Canesware in Davie or online at canesware.com.
00:12Bo famously part of the Dolphins killer bees.
00:16That was a defense that you would write home about.
00:19I mean, that was exactly what we see.
00:22Now you see him on CBS for he was hot, too.
00:28After the first two games of the season, I saw a post that he made on social media.
00:32I think it was after week two.
00:34Like Bo Camper was hot after the first couple of games.
00:38What about last night, Bo?
00:39You can't be super disappointed after that performance last night, can you?
00:44Well, it's been a long time.
00:48I thought it was banned from the Solana Hoffman and Prouders show that I wasn't going to be on.
00:52So I'm glad you got me off of this.
00:54We do shadow ban people from time to time.
00:57We don't tell them why, but we do shadow ban people.
01:00And you noticed it.
01:01You were shadow ban.
01:02But it was Jimmy.
01:03Yeah, that's it.
01:04Yeah, yeah.
01:05Yeah, we had with Jimmy.
01:06Yeah, I had a hard time talking to Jimmy.
01:09I think most people probably have a hard time talking to Jimmy.
01:14Hey, Bo, I just want you to know I voted against you coming on.
01:17Y'all remember how big Bo is?
01:24Y'all better leave Bo alone now.
01:26Bo get his hands on you.
01:28Hey, you keep messing with Keon Smith on the air.
01:30I don't think you remember how big he is.
01:32So to answer your question, you know, I think, you know, last night could have gone a lot of different ways.
01:45You know, certainly the game in Indianapolis was just a disaster of epic proportions.
01:53I don't know that I've ever seen a game that was so putrid as that game.
02:00And then you saw a little light at the, you know, when you come back for game two.
02:07And, you know, you don't obviously you don't win the game, but you kind of saw that offense kind of saw the big play come back into the game.
02:13And so last night, I don't think anybody, I think they were a 12 point dog giving a point at point one way or the other point or half point one way or the other.
02:22And no one really gave him a chance.
02:24I think this can't, you know, I think a couple of things.
02:26I think I think I think I think Mike McDaniel called a hell of a game last night.
02:31And I think they kind of went away a little bit from trying to be trying to be a, you know, a cute team with these little different plays.
02:43And just and just went back to playing football.
02:46Let's put our hand in the dirt.
02:48Let's block.
02:49Let's tackle.
02:50Let's get let's get physical.
02:51And I think they did.
02:52They ran the ball a lot.
02:53They ran the ball well.
02:55And so, you know, maybe there's a maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
02:59And so they got about 10 days before the Jets come to town and we'll see where it goes from there.
03:06And, Bo, I know you've seen it because I saw it.
03:09The interception at the end.
03:10People are acting like this is the square root of three or some conjuncture mathematical problem.
03:17Tua didn't see them jump into cover three when the safety rolled down.
03:20He threw it right to the curl player where the linebacker goes hook to curl.
03:25Three went to the flat.
03:26You push to the curl.
03:27Like, is it just Tua didn't see the coverage?
03:30Because everybody's trying to make this like it's this big ordeal.
03:33That was an easy thing to see.
03:38So we've been during the preseason when I was doing the doing the color on the preseason games.
03:44We go to we go into the production meetings and we were talking to Zach Wilson about, you know, Mike and Daniels offense.
03:52He says, well, it's a little scary because, you know, at some points he says, look, you need to you need to trust that the receiver is going to be where he's supposed to be, even if it means throwing it as strong safety or a safety.
04:05When when you don't see the receiver in sight.
04:08And so that's part of Mike's offense is like, you know, throw it at that safety and just expect that the receiver is going to undercut the safety and catch the football.
04:18So I think that that that that to me brings a lot of, whoa, I don't know if I want to do that into that.
04:25So I think it may be a part of what Mike's teaching.
04:28It may be a part of, you know, look, he's had what, three, four interceptions in the first four games, first three games.
04:36And they just happen. So it's sometimes they just happen, you know, it just seems to happen a little more.
04:44And I thought, too, for the most part, had a pretty good game, you know, fumble the, you know, fumble the snap one time and then had the interception.
04:52But but I think the disturbing thing is it just happens too many times, doesn't it?
04:57It's just, you know, you're there, you feel good and all of a sudden it's like even even the week prior, you know, you're going to that game.
05:07You know, you're you're you've got you're you're going to you can win that game.
05:11And the next thing you know, he throws it to the other team.
05:13So, yeah, it's it's it's, you know, you know, you know, the one thing now with with with football, NFL, college football, any Tom, Dick or Harry can get on these sites where you show they show you
05:26that the game films of all 22 or whatever they call it, and they become geniuses in schematics.
05:33Right. And so I don't pay much attention to that chatter.
05:38I really don't.
05:40Bo, I'm interested to kind of get your take on the defense in terms of we know week one against Indy was just it was a it was a disaster.
05:49I mean, the Colts scored on every possession.
05:52And I think last week on Sunday, no, but but Bo on Sunday against New England, it started that way as well.
06:01And then finally, there seemed to have been some momentum defensively.
06:04And then yesterday, the exact same thing happens on the defensive side of the ball where and I know you're going up against the Bills like it's Josh Allen.
06:11I get that. But they look like a different defense in late second quarter and then in that third quarter as well.
06:18Did you see any adjustments that Weaver made? Was it just guys making plays finally?
06:23Like what changed to where they were once again getting dashed and then they were getting stopped consistently?
06:29Well, a couple of things to that. I think, you know, Channing, when you look at the match of football, you know, these all these teams now come.
06:39They start out with like two down linemen, two big two tackles. And and that's the only people that have their hand in the dirt.
06:46You got two outside rushers because they're so hell bent on putting pressure on the quarterback that they're willing to abandon, you know,
06:54a lot of different things that you need to do on the on the, you know, in the scheme of a defense.
06:58And so you've got two big guys that are that are that are supposed to anchor the middle of the line of scrimmage.
07:06And then you've got two pass rushers on the outside and they're standing there, Channing, and in in in pass rush stances.
07:16Right. Staggered feet, ready to rush the pass. And then all of a sudden, when they when they when the when the run comes,
07:25especially if it comes from the guard outside, now they've got to stand up.
07:30Now they've got to set the edge. Now they've got to do all these things, but they've got to do it out of a staggered stance.
07:35It's like going from a pass rush. Oh, shoot. I got to I got to I got to square up a little bit and and play the run.
07:42And and I think that's been a little bit of issue. And look, it's not Anthony Weaver is not the only guy that's playing that kind of thing.
07:48Everybody seems to be playing it. But I think what happened last night, because in the first quarter,
07:55it was it was the same old story in the first quarter. You couldn't stop them.
08:00And then I think what they started doing, they started bringing in more.
08:04They went more to a more of a traditional three, four kind of a look where you put a nose tackle in there to two tackles or two,
08:10two tackles or ends, whichever you can call it. What do you want to call them now?
08:14And I think that's what but but you're right, Sean, in about middle of the second quarter into the to the second half,
08:21I thought they I thought they played more the way we expected them to play at the beginning of this season.
08:27And look, the other thing is, you know, they're rotating a lot of guys in there.
08:31And a lot of guys they're rotating are rookies that the young rookies, the guys that, you know, Kenneth Grant, you know,
08:38Jay, what's it? Phillips, Jordan, Jalen Phillips, I keep getting Jalen Jordan, Jordan Phillips,
08:48moving those, those guys rotating those guys.
08:53And look, they're rookies, they're going to make mistakes and they're going to have to see things.
08:58So I think it's a combination of things. But to me, I think it's a little schematically tough to play run when you're in a pass
09:05kind of situation with only two guys inside.
09:09But I think putting another guy in there and going that little given a nose tackle to be two defensive ends,
09:15I think helped him a little bit last night.
09:16Look, that that that Buffalo offensive line is certainly got to be one of the top two or three in the National Football League.
09:24And, Bo, just to add on to that, like if you look at the top teams now, the Eagles, the Lions, you look at the Ravens,
09:32you look at the Bills, they're running the ball.
09:34They're they're playing old school football when Elders went to the wide open, you know, running dash and track meet type stuff.
09:43And they're going back to when we played, when you were beating people in the head and it's starting to work.
09:48And teams got to adjust to it, Bo.
09:49So but I got to ask you to talk about rotation, Bo.
09:52Why in the hell is your highest paid 300 pound, 30 year old, six foot six D tackle on punt return?
10:01He doesn't know how to block a punt.
10:03He's he's never done it in his life, Bo.
10:05That that upset me more than the interception.
10:08Yeah.
10:09Well, there's a couple of things.
10:10You know, I know that when we're up in Indianapolis for the first game, I noticed at one point they were dropping Kenneth.
10:18They I saw it one time.
10:20They dropped Kenneth Grant into coverage from from from from an inside tackle position.
10:26And he kind of stumbled over the receiver.
10:29It was a back that caught the ball.
10:31And I'm going, what you're dropping.
10:32First of all, the guy's a rookie.
10:34Second of all, you're dropping a defensive tackle in like a zone blitz kind of a situation that that to me was odd.
10:40So I don't know.
10:42I don't know what they're trying to do with some of these defenses.
10:44But, you know, I think last night and I think what I said going into the game, if you want to win this game, you know, let's not try to trick anybody.
10:50Let's just go back to old school football where you you you all block, you tackle, you get physical and just let that be your calling card instead of trying to do some scheme or scheme this and scheme that, you know, and trick them along the way.
11:05And I think they kind of I think they may be maybe leaning a little bit more that way now than what they started with earlier in the season.
11:15And, you know, hopefully it continues.
11:17They continue to do it because, look, they got they got offense.
11:20They got rookies coming in on offense.
11:22You got all coming in.
11:23You got so I and I in there.
11:26You've got some other guys that are coming in there off a defense.
11:29You've got a bunch of rookies.
11:30And look, they're they're just look.
11:32I think it's a good thing to get them in there.
11:35But they're going to make mistakes.
11:37And so part of that, part of what's happening, too, I think, is the growing pains you're seeing with a number of young guys that you're hoping to be your future.
11:47And they're stumbling around a little bit right now.
11:50But but I kind of lost it, you know, I kind of got out of the way.
11:54But so anyway, you know, you have Zach in there.
11:57And Zach just, you know, Zach's going to try to pummel the long snapper.
12:02And and and then you ran over the guy, which you didn't expect to do.
12:07Then he stumbled.
12:08And, you know, you've got a guy that's, you know, 330, 340 pound, whatever he is, kind of on one foot stumbling down.
12:15You know, he's hard for a guy like that to gather himself and get out of the way.
12:19And I think he just, you know, it's one of those things where he just ran into the kicker.
12:22And but and unfortunately, again, you do it at a time that you couldn't do it.
12:30Kim Bo Camper, you are no longer shadow banned from the show.
12:34You have proven yourself worthy.
12:35Jimmy, will you agree to remove the shadow ban of Kim Bo Camper?
12:40I agree.
12:42All right.
12:42Jimmy has signed off on it, Bo.
12:44So we'll have you.
12:45Thank you very much.
12:46I appreciate that.
12:47And I love the entree to the show with you being the conduit.
12:52Look at that.
12:53You made his day, Bo.
12:54That was very nice of you.
12:55Is it is is Monday night a week from Monday against the Jets, a must win or are we beyond must wins already in this season?
13:04Like, let's just get you.
13:06Yeah.
13:06But look, if you get if you lose to the Jets somehow, you will have lost.
13:11You will have lost to everybody in the AFC East, which which completely takes you out of any chance of winning the division.
13:18No chance winning division.
13:19And it puts you in a situation where you're going to be struggling the rest of the rest of the way just to get a wild card spot.
13:26And so and look, that again, as I said, I thought Mike called a really good game.
13:32But if you lose to the Jets, you go on for you go off in the division.
13:37Something's got to give at that point.
13:39Yeah, that would be that would probably be a breaking point.
13:42We'll talk to you throughout the season, Bo.
13:44We appreciate it.
13:44There you go.
13:47Kim Bo Camper.
13:48Always enjoy talking to him.
13:50I don't know why we haven't had him on more, but it's I think because of Jimmy.
13:54All right.
13:54Hard rock bet.
13:55Cool.
13:56Jimmy.
13:56I talk about the hard rock bet app every day on this show.
13:59If you haven't downloaded it yet, make today the day.
14:01I don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we don't know why we
