00:48Zach Gelb, he can be heard nationally every weekday afternoon on the Infinity Sports Network.
00:54And he comes to us from the WFAN studios in New York City.
01:00You're a big Pats fan, Gelby.
01:03Did you enjoy what you saw on Sunday from the Pats?
01:07Or did it make you a little nervous watching the Dolphins claw their way back into that game?
01:12I thought early on in the first half, I was getting ready to dance on the grave of Solana and Hockman.
01:19And then in the second half, I may or may not, when I was in the pool in Vegas, drinking a lot and watching the game,
01:26I may have had a few tweets in my draft saying the Patriots are just a first half team.
01:32And they were horrible in the second half.
01:33Devon HN, thank you very much.
01:36I'm a big Devon HN guy.
01:37Always have on this show.
01:38I didn't know he was going to step out of bounds like that.
01:41So it works out perfectly.
01:42But actually, guys, I'm a little bit annoyed with you.
01:45Channing, no issues with him.
01:47I know what my relationship is with Channing.
01:49He came on my show a week ago.
01:51He was excellent.
01:52I get it.
01:53Channing and I were not going to be best friends.
01:55When he's in New York, he's not going to hit me up.
01:57But when I'm sitting there interviewing Dana White, and I have Dana White throwing up the U sign,
02:02and I text you three bozos, no response back from Hockman or Solana.
02:08You guys all ghosted me.
02:09But he's been there.
02:11He's been showing up at Cane's games.
02:13Like, he's decked out in Cane's gear.
02:15You didn't have breaking news.
02:16All you were doing was telling us something we already knew.
02:19But still, I got the photo for you.
02:21Here I am, busting my ass.
02:22When you guys don't pay me anything to do this segment, I'm giving you content left and right.
02:26I work harder on this show than Solana does.
02:29And you guys don't even give me a thank you text.
02:31So bleep you two.
02:33I can't say that you work harder than Solana.
02:35Because for the first 20 minutes of the show today, he was fixing wires and jiggling boxes.
02:40Fine.
02:40I show up more on this show than Crowder does.
02:43I'm at least on time for all my segments.
02:46We got a lot of jobs, Gilby.
02:48How many times does Crowder just pop in 10 minutes into my segment?
02:51You know, be quiet, Steve Harvey.
02:54Shut up.
02:54Who cares that you're interviewing him?
02:55You're talking to me.
02:57Crowder could get Steve Harvey to throw up the U.
03:00Shaq to throw up the U.
03:01Kevin Hart to throw up the U.
03:03All the A-list celebrity he's with.
03:05Not him.
03:06He doesn't do anything.
03:07I'm with Gilby.
03:08Yeah.
03:09And screw Billy Napier.
03:11And screw DJ Lagway.
03:12Let's go Miami.
03:14The Cavender twins.
03:15Screw them.
03:16Carson Beck, baby.
03:17Mario Cristobal.
03:19Sid Rosenberg's dear friend, by the way.
03:24Dear friend.
03:25Dear, dear friend.
03:26You a-holes.
03:27You don't respond back to me in a text.
03:29It's disgusting.
03:30It's almost as offensive.
03:31It's almost as offensive as Solana going to Joe's Stone Crab and not even ordering the
03:36Stone Crabs.
03:36Or then when his girlfriend says or his fiancee, hey, you should try it.
03:39He uses a fork and a knife with the Stone Crabs like a stoonod.
03:42I have to see when you texted us that picture because we must.
03:47Yeah, it was Thursday night at 8.15 our time.
03:52Thursday night at 8.15.
03:54That's Thursday night football.
03:56Right.
03:56Yeah, we're watching Thursday night football.
03:58Oh, let's be real, Hawk.
03:59You're not watching Thursday night football.
04:01The only way you're watching is if you have money on it.
04:03So unless if you have a big bet and we haven't heard about it, you're not watching it.
04:07You're probably watching.
04:08You're probably watching Matt Mervis in the single A or something like that.
04:10First of all, by 8.15, I'm still not even close to getting logged into Amazon Prime.
04:15I can't figure out how to get into that thing until at least 8.45.
04:19At 8.15, you're having your 17th avocado toast of the day for crying out loud.
04:24You've been asleep for an hour.
04:25We're 8.15?
04:26Are you kidding me?
04:28Yeah.
04:29Cutting's had a sports strip club at that point, too.
04:33As a Patriots fan.
04:35Yeah.
04:35And I don't get into the they won the game and they lost the game.
04:39But that damn last drive, I came on Monday.
04:42I was embarrassed to cheer for the Dolphins after what they did that last drive.
04:46Is that fireable or is that because who came on and said it was like, that looks like we're headed in the direction of not running a team anymore.
04:55Of a firing.
04:55Yes.
04:56That Mike McDaniel.
04:56Like, I forget who was.
04:58It was yesterday.
04:58Saying that that's the pathway to being fired as a head coach.
05:02The quarterback is complaining after the game that they can't get the right people in.
05:06You're calling timeouts when you need to be running quick plays.
05:10And that.
05:12First, it was Acuno.
05:14No, because Acuno's today.
05:15It wasn't.
05:16Yeah.
05:16It was like.
05:17A pal.
05:17It was a pal.
05:18It was a pal.
05:18First and 10 to now second and 20.
05:21And you're down by six.
05:23Like, what are we doing here?
05:24I'm shocked that you guys didn't win the game.
05:26Like, I know we're having fun here with how that ended when they got the ball back.
05:31And I've been extremely critical of Mike McDaniel.
05:34I've been critical of Tua.
05:36I thought Tyreek was going to be a disaster this year.
05:38And I still think inevitably he'll get traded.
05:40But how they didn't win that game.
05:41Milton Williams was phenomenal.
05:43But still.
05:45For Mike McDaniel, they're going to get slaughtered probably by the Bills.
05:49If they could just keep it like 28-17, it almost feels like it's a victory.
05:53Even if they lose that game.
05:55But the next two games after that, I think you guys play the Jets and the Panthers.
05:58You lose one of those games.
06:00I don't understand how Stephen Ross justifies keeping this coach around.
06:03But Stephen Ross is the same guy that has employed, you know, your general manager,
06:08Chris Greer, for 7,000 years.
06:10So who the heck knows what he's going to do?
06:11Were you impressed by the Patriots, though?
06:13I know you're saying you can't believe the Dolphins didn't win.
06:16And we've talked a lot about the Dolphins.
06:17I think you're in the same boat with us.
06:19Inevitably, Mike McDaniel is going to lose his job.
06:21But are you impressed at all by the Patriots through two weeks?
06:26I mean, finally, their quarterback gets a win.
06:30But who was it?
06:31Ben Volin yesterday that told us that's only the second time where he starts and finishes a game.
06:35And he actually earns a victory.
06:38So I don't know.
06:39Like, the idea that the Patriots with Vrabel were going to be number two in the AFC East,
06:43I'm not feeling too great about that.
06:45I'll say this.
06:46Let's look at what he's working with.
06:49The offensive line is improved, but it's still a problem.
06:52They have some good running backs this year.
06:55But the wide receivers, you still don't have.
06:57I know they have Stephon Diggs, but he's not Stephon Diggs of old.
07:00You still don't have a bona fide number one wide receiver.
07:02Like, I'd be curious to see, even though the Dolphins' offensive line is no good.
07:06If you put Devon Achan, if you put Tyree Kill,
07:10if you put Jalen Waddle with Drake May,
07:13I think that would be a really fun offense to watch.
07:15I like the way that Drake May played in the game.
07:18It may be his best game as a pro.
07:20But last year, he put lipstick on a pig, and he really had nothing to work with.
07:24And he was turning garbage into gold constantly.
07:27I look at Drake May.
07:29I see a little of Josh Allen.
07:31I see a little of Justin Herbert.
07:32I see a little of Matthew Stafford.
07:35But they got to surround him with more talent.
07:38And with that being said, in week one to week two, here was the biggest difference.
07:41Week one, they had a conservative game plan.
07:43They were calling it like Tom Brady was the quarterback.
07:46You now have a mobile quarterback, a dual-threat quarterback, a guy that if everything gets
07:51cooking, you hope he could be a Josh Allen, a Justin Herbert, a Matthew Stafford.
07:55Those types of guys, you got to start calling a more aggressive approach on offense, which
08:01they did to their credit up against the Miami Dolphins.
08:03Am I walking away saying, oh my goodness gracious, this team is great?
08:07Absolutely not.
08:08But I do look at the Patriots as they could still be the second-best team in the AFC East.
08:12And you don't even have to be that good to be the second-best team in the AFC East.
08:15The Jets stink.
08:16Their fans took a moral victory in week one, and they got embarrassed in week two.
08:20Mike McDaniel, he is insufferable at the podium.
08:23And now Tua can't stand his guts.
08:25So the Patriots, if they could just get to seven, eight wins, they'll be the second-best team in the AFC East?
08:30Do you see a pathway tomorrow night for the Dolphins not to be embarrassed?
08:36I'm not even saying winning the game.
08:38I'm saying a pathway to it not being an embarrassing night of primetime football for the Dolphins.
08:46Yeah, two things.
08:48One, short week.
08:49It's divisional game.
08:51Those games could be close.
08:52So that's one.
08:53If I had to give you more of a football perspective, that bill's secondary.
08:57I know Justin Fields was horrible, but that's more so Justin Fields.
09:01We saw the way that the Ravens moved the ball up against them for three-and-a-half quarters.
09:07This got to be a massive Tyree kill to a Tunga by Loa game.
09:12You know, they got to use their speed.
09:13If they use their speed to their advantage and don't turn the ball over early, they could keep it close.
09:19But at the end of the day, as long as Josh Allen is healthy, I just don't see how he doesn't do enough to, at worst-case scenario, squeak by with, like, a 23-20 victory.
09:28And, Gerobe, big picture, NFL all around.
09:30Who's surprising you?
09:31Because I knew the Chargers would be better with hardball.
09:35They look like they can really compete in the AFC.
09:37Who's surprising you right now?
09:38Yeah, Jesse Minter will be a head coach one day.
09:41They're a defensive coordinator.
09:42For them, it's all about getting wins now because eventually the Chiefs will get things going.
09:47It's going to sound like a lame answer, but it's the Packers.
09:50Like, I knew the Packers were going to be good.
09:52We knew the Packers were going to be good before they got Micah Parsons.
09:55But now it feels like the Packers are maybe the best team in the NFL and a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
10:02And you look at what they were able to do in their first two weeks.
10:05They smothered the Lions, and then they did a very nice job up against the Commanders.
10:09The Lions were the one seed last year in the NFC, and the Commanders were in the NFC championship game.
10:13So if I'm a Packers fan, I would be very, very, very happy.
10:16I think the surprise parts are more on the negatives.
10:19Like, you look at the Kansas City Chiefs being 0-2, extremely disappointing.
10:24The Bengals, ironically, they're 2-0, but now Joe Burrow's going to be out for 12 weeks.
10:29So there's disappointment there with the Burrow injury, and we'll see if Jaden Daniels plays this week.
10:35I know he's iffy right now, they said.
10:37But if you had to redraft the quarterbacks from the Burrow to Herbert Hurts draft, who are you taking first overall?
10:45Who are you taking second, third, and so on?
10:47Because, obviously, you know, it was Joe Burrow at the time, but another injury.
10:53And with the way Herbert's playing, I know Burrow's been to the Super Bowl, Gal,
10:56but I do think there's an argument right now that if you had to redraft and look at longevity and everything,
11:02Hurts and Herbert might be one or two.
11:05Why is Tua not part of this equation?
11:07He seems to be more durable this season than most NFL quarterbacks.
11:10Oh, no, he is part of the equation.
11:12He's last.
11:12The YouTube comments are going to be killing you on that one.
11:16If we were doing that draft over again, I would go Burrow still 1, even though it's starting to look a little Andrew Luck-like,
11:24and he's getting hit as much as David Carr, but I would still go Burrow 1.
11:27He took the Bengals to the frickin' Super Bowl for crying out loud.
11:30I then would have to give the slight edge to Jalen Hurts, too, just because of the clutch gene.
11:35Now you have to build the right team around him, but he's outplayed Mahomes now twice in a Super Bowl.
11:40Herbert would then be 3, and if you put Herbert 2 and Hurts 3, I wouldn't crush you for it in this conversation for the draft.
11:47And then 4th would be Tua Tungavailoa.
11:49Jordan Love, I think, was that draft 2, right?
11:52Oh, yeah.
11:53Second round?
11:54No, first round.
11:55They traded back up to go get him.
11:56That's when Aaron Rodgers put the four fingers in the scotch.
11:58I would put Jordan Love in front of Tua, too.
12:01Oh, boy.
12:02I can't even argue with that.
12:04I wish I could.
12:06Let me tell you, my favorite part of Channing Crowder's appearance on my show was he goes,
12:13Gelby, I hate to say this because you're going to clip it and you're going to use it against me,
12:16but you were right on Mike McDaniel.
12:18You were right on Tua Tungavailoa.
12:20And Crowder, you bet your ass I clipped that.
12:23Let me ask you something real quick because I asked this of someone yesterday.
12:26Mike McDaniel, let's say he doesn't make it through the season or makes it through the season and then gets fired after that.
12:32Is he a head coaching candidate moving forward for teams who are in need of a head coach?
12:38So he hasn't been miserable.
12:39Like, they have made the playoffs twice under Mike McDaniel.
12:43But hearing him speak, I don't know how he even got the job.
12:47Like, that dude at the podium, guys could talk themselves out of future jobs.
12:52To me, moving forward, he's an offensive coordinator.
12:56You know, maybe he wants to get involved in the college game.
12:59I think that could be interesting.
13:01But I don't think he's NFL head coaching material.
13:03I've said this two years ago.
13:04I'll say it again.
13:05I got the coaching ick with Mike McDaniel.
13:07You know who I have the coaching ick now with?
13:09Ben Johnson.
13:10And that was before the start of the season.
13:12What he said about Matt LaFleur, win a game first before you start talking crap about Matt LaFleur.
13:16Your offense can't do much.
13:18You're criticizing the tush push, saying it's not an explosive play.
13:21You're the Bears.
13:21You never had a 4,000-yard passer in your franchise's history.
13:24You take a first down.
13:25You take a touchdown, even if it comes the way of the tush push.
13:28And then the most egregious one, I'm a Michigan guy.
13:30I like Colston Loveland.
13:32But he's nowhere close to the player that Tyler Warren is.
13:35How the heck did they not draft Tyler Warren in front of Colston Loveland?
13:38So Ben Johnson, sorry, Hawk, I know I'm going after you today, killing the Dolphins and killing your Bears.
13:44But geez, Louise.
13:45No, you can't not believe in Ben Johnson after two games.
13:47You can start to not believe in Caleb Williams, but you can't not believe in Ben Johnson.
13:51I'm just saying, maybe he goes on to be a good coach.
13:55I had the ick with him.
13:56I've had the ick with him before the season even started.
13:58You were right on Mike McDaniel.
13:59He did have the ick on Mike McDaniel.
14:01I've only given the ick out to one other coach.
14:04That was Mike McDaniel.
14:05Now we're trying it with Ben Johnson.
14:07We'll see how that works in a year or two when I still work for you guys and not get paid a single dime to do the segment.
14:11Okay.
14:12Well, Eber Flus and Ben Johnson, who you have the ick with, Caleb Williams with a Sean McVay.
14:18Like, could Caleb still be good?
14:19Because we see the talent.
14:20He looks bad in games.
14:23You know what it is?
14:24Some guys are just not made to be an alpha and a leader.
14:28This kid has talent.
14:29He's elusive.
14:30I just don't know if he galvanizes that locker room.
14:33And when things don't go right and quarterbacks, especially young quarterbacks, you have to overcome adversity.
14:39In week one, I know it was terrible in week two for J.J. McCarthy, but J.J. McCarthy embarrassed himself and then somehow won NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
14:46That kid has moxie.
14:47That kid has toughness.
14:48For Caleb, he has so much talent, more talent than J.J. McCarthy, but he just doesn't have the adversity and the toughness gene yet.
14:54But Zach Gelb from the Infinity Sports Network, we immediately let any guest go when we hear them utter, that kid has moxie.
15:02That's just a show rule.
15:03It's all right.
15:04Jimmy has moxie.
15:05I love Jimmy.
15:05He's my favorite person on the show.
15:06Jimmy does have moxie.
15:07F all three of you clowns.
15:09Goodbye.
15:11He fits at the WFAN studios.
15:13He's perfect.
15:14I can't tweet out a U-picture man.
15:17He's perfect.
15:17He's perfect.
15:17He's perfect.
