Commenting on a column written in the Miami Herald by Barry Jackson pointing out the lack of success the Dolphins have had in the Stephen Ross era.
Transcript
00:00there's a column i know solana had uh texted it to us earlier today i had read it um that the
00:06tweet from barry jackson in the miami herald kind of summarizes what's there it says there's blame
00:12everywhere from the gm who can't get out of his own way to the head coach who seems to be out of
00:19answers to a qb who seems to be regressing but why is the franchise still lost start with the
00:27owner who shows no inclination or ability to fix this and i think solana did you tweet or text to
00:36us there was a little snippet from that column where essentially it says there's no one mickey
00:42arison had pat riley the signature hire right vinnie viola had bill zito the signature hire you can go
00:52down the list and barry jackson's point was steven ross doesn't have one literally doesn't have one
01:00for as long as he's owned the team they've been devoid of that guy that leader you want to consider
01:08bill parcells that guy he upped the golf cart game obviously at uh i'm just i'm just saying
01:15what did he do but what did he do but i'm just saying at the time that was the pat riley that was
01:22the bill zito it felt like it but that would be pat riley if pat riley petered out after two and a
01:28half seasons and took all of mickey arison's money it right it would that just made it seem like he
01:32hadn't tried to make a hire like that he just promoted guys from within like he tried that no no
01:36he's not saying well barry jackson's point is in the article is not that steven ross hasn't tried he
01:42states it very clearly he presents before he goes into all the shortcomings of the chris career era
01:48and the mike mcdaniel era he presents the the facts that steven ross has made several contributions to
01:56make dolphin stadium or hard rock stadium a better environment he's gone out he's put resources into
02:01the organization but he writes the owners who leave an indelible mark hire at least one person
02:07who has a profoundly positive long-term impact on his or her franchise and he points out joe robbie
02:13with shula mickey arison with pat riley vinnie viola with bill zito we're still waiting on ross to find
02:20one in year 17 it's not just making the splash higher it's the results that come with the splash higher
02:26it's it's not a splash higher because like tom garfunkel garfinkel he is very good at business
02:33the ceo he knows how to like the the damn f1s and the the price of the franchise is one of the highest
02:40egress the egress and ingress and grasses whatever grasses they're doing they are great business
02:46people but to vinnie viola he's making deals to get players here to pat riley no he knows basketball
02:55that's what we're missing from the top to the bottom who makes it's it's chris greer chris greer
03:03makes all football decisions i don't think tom who is a good dude graded giving charities to the
03:10cancer societies he does not know if an outside linebacker play or not and that's where everything's
03:17back on chris greer is this roster set up to beat anybody that's what we have to do vinnie viola
03:24is going to get players here pat riley knows how to get players i don't know if the dolphins has
03:30that have that guy to maximize talent in the organization where it matters on the court the
03:36field or the ice by the way way wayne hyzinga hired bill parcels yeah i didn't think it was steven
03:41i got it thought it was like right at the end of that yeah yeah yeah i mean there really is no guy
03:46from steven ross to barry jackson's point but i would put steven ross so far down the list i understand
03:52what barry's doing barry is essentially doing the the buck stops here thing so maybe this guy's
03:59failed but ultimately it's you owner guy who needs to make the real impact in hiring the right guy
04:05i think steven ross he has been as good an owner as you can ask aside from not having success on the
04:14field he has no hesitation to put money where it's needed he has no hesitation steven ross from
04:21everything we understand wanted lamar jackson and trusted his football guys no didn't
04:30overrule them and we see it time and time again right where we go oh that owner needs to stay in
04:36his lane do what he does own let the football people decide so i think steven ross for me is
04:43really far down on on the list of of problems when it comes to the dolphins i mean right now
04:49it is strictly it's a personnel problem but it is also a coaching problem right now because i just
04:56don't understand how they could look the way they looked sunday if you had a coach that had some
05:03modicum of control over i mean you have to be able to witness during training camp and practices
05:15and meetings you have to be able to witness notice lethargy there's no way that the team he like
05:25there's no way mike mcdaniel didn't have warning that they were going to look like that it is impossible
05:31to believe that they could look that lethargic and that disinterested and that unprepared and him not
05:41have any advance warning of it to him for him to think that they were locked in and tough and ready
05:48to go and then be exploited and embarrassed that way by daniel jones in indianapolis there is a
05:56disconnect between what mike mcdaniel is seeing and witnessing and what's happening out on the field
06:02and it's maddening and they'll tell you that hey you guys are more worried about so and so than we are
06:10greer did it with the offensive line last year and i think one of the position coaches in the secondary
06:15did it this year with the cornerbacks and like but i did say to solana because solana had pointed that
06:23out when it happened and i'm like what do you want the secondary coach to say i'm very concerned about
06:28our cornerbacks i mean you're literally these are your guys of course you're gonna say that they're
06:34they're situated and fine fair but also when it's like a theme year over year and like you're saying
06:42to people who i know this has been a big topic of conversation i realize that i don't know as much
06:47as the coaching staff and as chris greer but there are certain things that like we can all see for
06:52ourselves and on multiple occasions for certain members of the organization to tell us the
07:01collective now you guys are just flat out wrong you know you you don't know what you're talking about
07:06like it's it's borderline insulting because we could all see it i i when i went to the detroit
07:12lions miami dolphins joint practice and i came on air from the facility and said bro they're getting
07:19worn out in this practice they remember we watched the jags game where they didn't have any starters
07:25playing and the offense couldn't pee a drop and we're like oh no it's fine don't worry about it
07:30i think we should have been concerned with with that because i watched one and i was there during
07:36one and i was like this team was not ready to play detroit this team was not ready offensively to play
07:42the jags oh no we're fine to josh's point we're fine don't worry about it we're just working on some
07:47things then you get your ass whooped by 25 against daniel jones colts that's embarrassing
07:53the y'all were not ready to play football they kind of we kind of saw some tea leaves and we were
07:58whistling through the graveyard and then on sunday it was confirmed that they weren't ready to play
08:04nfl schedule yet bradley chubbs that afterwards they were just making stuff up basically on the
08:10which is bizarre i heard that what can they can they remove the microphone can they can they stop
08:17putting the microphone in front of bradley chubb like just just tell tell the dolphins pr don't let
08:24bradley chubb talk after games because in training camp he told everybody that yeah last year we were
08:29we were all committed to being a tougher team but we were just saying that this year is different and
08:34and then now his his answer to what happened there was maybe the most humiliating loss in my lifetime was
08:40oh well we were just making stuff up like hey hey bradley maybe don't offer your honest sentiments
08:47after games please maybe just settle down for a couple days
