00:00pass the aux cord and crank up the volume figgy figs in the driver's seat sit back relax and
00:09enjoy the ride it's time for figgy's mixtape on sports radio 610 yes it is the mixtape in the
00:17loop sports radio 610 it's your man figgy fig holding it down on a monday happy monday to
00:22everyone out there so i say it's gonna be a little summer type of mixtape man we lost a lot
00:29of legends in the past couple days man it's been crazy and it's still going on um i'll tell you
00:35about a couple other legends we lost today as we've been doing this show but the one that everyone is
00:43talking about is uh hollywood director rob reiner and his wife michelle reiner um they were found
00:51dead in their home in their hollywood home or their home in uh california and um it's kind of threw
00:58everybody off because the original uh i want to say report was it was two bodies found at the
01:05reiner residence and then later on it was confirmed that it was him and his wife in in the home but
01:13uh let's go to e-news with this story hollywood director rob reiner and his wife michelle are
01:19found dead in an apparent homicide a source close to reiner has confirmed to nbc news that reiner and
01:25his wife were found dead in their home on december 14th apparently of stab wounds according to the
01:31los angeles police department officers responded to a death investigation just before 4 p.m local
01:37time on december 14th once inside the home officers discovered two decedents in a statement
01:42to variety rob and michelle's family says it is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic
01:48passing of michelle and rob reiner we are heartbroken by this sudden loss and we ask for
01:54privacy during this unbelievably difficult time so really sad uh sad situation and um i'm not sure
02:02if this is confirmed or not i've been seeing a lot of mixed stuff but um allegedly they're saying that
02:08they're i guess it's their middle son um nick who uh who could be responsible for this and if you kind
02:16of know i guess a little of the story uh like the backstory of uh rob and his son i guess had a lot
02:24of issues with uh with nick reported substance abuse yeah uh it all kinds of things reported we'll see
02:31and i just seen recently um i guess uh nick got into it really bad that um i think it was uh
02:39oh uh conan o'brien's christmas party or something like that i think i seen seen that from tmz
02:47and that was i guess before this all happened but uh rest in peace and you know i don't want we got
02:54that really i bet y'all got thoughts on this part of it but uh we were talking before the show just
03:00about rob reiner himself yeah just his um his the run he'd been on as far as uh directing movies and all
03:08that stuff well you say you know director and that's absolutely accurate but he's really just
03:12an icon uh i mean he was a scene stealer if you go back to movies like uh uh just uh uh wolf of
03:20wall street he had he was on screen for about 10 minutes and stole scenes he was a star we go back
03:25to all in the family uh i just i know him from me just being meathead he was on michael he was on the
03:31bear as stealing scenes yeah on the bear but as a director and we were talking about this before the
03:39show and this isn't a thought unique to me because it's been out there but it's worth mentioning
03:44you could argue that the best romantic comedy ever uh was when harry met sally directed by uh rob
03:51reiner 89 yeah you could argue that the best court drama ever few good men 92 directed by uh rob reiner
03:59you could argue that the best coming of age movie of all time uh was directed by by rob reiner you
04:07could also argue that the best mockumentary of all time and really set the standard and set
04:12hollywood this path of mockumentaries right uh was uh spinal tap the spinal tap 84 so you're talking
04:19about like the best in in four five different categories ever was directed by him and a lot of
04:25them in a six-year span at the early portions of his career as a director like these are early
04:29full rays and spinal tap literally the first of his directorial credits so yeah no that's
04:35obviously really really big when it comes to the history if you're an entertainment fan
04:39in uh in in entertainment i guess so um i guess yeah rest in peace to rob reiner his family and uh
04:46just just to you know make sure that it's solidified because i know you were saying you
04:49didn't know the full details of it nbc news has reported that nick reiner was arrested and booked
04:54on suspicion of murdering his parents obviously we don't know officially but that at least
04:58is something that has been reported yeah such a sad situation man and uh i want to say he was 78
05:05i want to say he was kind of up there but like it's never a good time to go away but this is awful
05:11man it's so sad man i hate that this had to happen like this oh yeah we didn't include princess bride
05:17which absolutely was his 87 yeah yeah yeah princess bride too man that's a hell of a resume man yeah for
05:23sure man uh rest in peace to uh rob reiner and his wife michelle uh who was also she was doing
05:31her thing at one point too well she was a photographer by trade or by profession early on
05:37and i think he changed the ending of uh when harry met sally because he wanted that couple to end up
05:45together like he did with her it was originally going to be that they ended up not together
05:49yeah he changed the ending so they would end up together yeah crazy man uh again rest in peace
05:55as i continue on the mixtape in the loop sports radio says 10 another rest in peace to a uh
06:01a houston legend man yeah um abc's own abc 13's own dave ward he um passed away at the age of 86
06:12i want to say i want to say he was 86 right um he was uh i know i say houston legend and all that
06:19stuff but i think he might just be a legend in general man because he was in the guinness world
06:24record for um the longest i want to say broadcast anchor local yeah local anchor for one station
06:32yeah um he had that record for i want to say over 50 years so he started at abc 13 i want to say in
06:411966 and retired in 2017 so and now that i got a little audio clip of him this is after he started
06:50uh well after retirement and he started the podcast of course he did and so um it's because he i'm sure
06:57he would have thought he would have started a podcast in 1966 yeah but um here's a little clip
07:03from dave ward on his podcast and it features a kind of a guy we know around these parts okay
07:10hello friends i'm dave ward and welcome to dave ward and friends this is a series of casual
07:18conversations with people i have met and friends i have made in my 60 years of broadcasting radio and
07:27television news in houston i'm very proud to have today the man who hosts the top rated sports talk
07:36show in houston on 16 a.m sean pendergast sean thank you so much for being here buddy yeah dave it's
07:44great to be here it's an honor to be here i know this podcast i've seen who else you've had on this
07:48on these previous episodes so far so it's quite an honor to be on this list and to be uh here in
07:54the dave ward building this is great salute to sean pendergast shout out to sean on that yeah yeah
08:01that's cool i'm gonna have to uh you can search that episode on youtube just type in um um dave
08:07ward sean pendergast and they'll pop right up man what what a legend in the business of media one of
08:14the things that uh was i i only recently learned is i didn't realize it was a college dropout uh like
08:20walter cronkite that like that was that was his that was his idol was walter cronkite and apparently
08:25he like that gave him a level of courage to do this thing that he wanted to do because he's like
08:29well i guess i can i can do it too and i can't recall exactly i think it was it might have been
08:34abc 13 themselves or maybe it was the chronicle that had put together a little vignette about dave
08:38ward um talking about like his hello friends oh yeah that that you know that thing that he did was
08:43very much to try and welcome people in and in an age where the news media is one that is not
08:49trust like he facilitated a lot of the trust that we once had by one obviously his standard of
08:54excellence here in the city of houston but then also reminded folks that hey man like we're here
08:57for you in that way of just something as simple as hello friends this is the news and and enormous
09:03i'm not talking about like casual hey whatever astros are in the world series i'm talking about a
09:09day-to-day enormous sports fan like he followed it religiously man rest in big time yeah rest in
09:16peace and salute to the houston texas i see they did a little something in the press box
09:20um honoring um dave ward so salute to the texans and rest in peace to a um legend man gone but never
09:28forgotten nope as i continue on the mixtape in the loot sports radio 610 this just came down
09:35i want to say like two hours ago uh r&b legend um sir carl carlton and some of them i mean i hope
09:44everybody know who this is but you should know this song right here
09:48this song right here he passed away uh well the report came out a couple hours ago at the age of 72
09:59i'm like man i got a confession about this song too and this is when i was younger i used to always
10:06think this was stevie wonder i can see how you sound like this sound like a stevie wonder type of
10:11it does right i can absolutely see how you get there yeah it wasn't to uh as i got a little older
10:16and started doing research i'm like oh that ain't stevie wonder yeah no that's fair and literally
10:21everyone has said bad mamma jamma yeah at some point or another we found its way into the into
10:26the sports lexicon yeah yeah yeah got found into wrestling oh yeah who used to say was it uh chris
10:33jericho i think i can't recall i think i know sean is somewhere yeah eddie guerrero i think he's
10:39probably i can't remember i think it was talked about it we said that on this show yeah a bad mamma jamma
10:45right there yeah yeah so rest in peace to him as well and then also that uh something that came
10:51down today um for the those who used to watch general hospital oh i saw is it anthony gary really
10:59yeah passed away at the age of 78 he played
11:05yeah yeah he passed away that just came down not that long ago so yeah man i pretty much had to rip
11:11the rundown up a little bit this was supposed to be like a little corner towards the end i'm like
11:16man that's a lot of um a lot of uh rest in pieces yeah a lot of rest in pieces and i mean i don't i
11:23don't mean to equally equate these things but it also reminded me of it was a it was a very harmful
11:28week and it came when it came to football as well we had a lot of injuries as well so there was
11:32definitely some rough things about this weekend if you look at well the luke and laura thing on general
11:38hospital was it put together prime time numbers when they had their wedding finally they were
11:43there it was a that was a big deal it was the big big okay years of luke and laura they hate each
11:49other they love each other the ross and rachel but well well before ross and rachel and they that
11:53their wedding i'll have to look it up but it ended up you saw general hospital uh yeah well all my
11:59children was my number one but general hospital either came on right before or right after so i was very
12:03and everybody was into luke and laura okay yeah we probably need to do a segment on different uh
12:09stories we used to watch yeah yeah but we probably do a whole segment on that and then i i want to i
12:14don't want to leave a bad though i do want to give a special happy belated birthday to the one and only
12:19dick van dyke oh yeah 100 right 100 man 100 man and um this is uh dick van dyke somebody asked him um
12:29how you feeling man to be 100 years old yeah i feel really good but for a hundred you know
12:36i have no pain no discomfort people say what did you do right and i say don't ask i don't know
12:43i'm rather lazy and uh i think i've always thought that anger is one thing that eats up a person's insides
12:52and hate and i never really was able to work up a feeling of hate you know the things i don't like
13:00people i don't like and disapprove of and my father was a person who was constantly upset by the state
13:07of things in his life and everything and it did take him at 74 years old i think that is one of the
13:14chief things that kept me going good for him god bless that man yeah man i ain't gonna lie he was
13:22a funny dude if you watch if you watch some of them those shows the dick van dyke show back in the day
13:27great physical comedy but then also like just comedy in general he was just kind of just that dude that
13:33just uh i don't know it's hard to explain but like a longer type dude that's just and mary poppins
13:39yeah i mean and he could play a bag didn't he have a tv he had a tv series for a while
13:44oh yeah he could play a bad guy uh no i'm talking about like a dramatic tv series did not know that
13:49for a while and uh yeah yeah just legendary by the way i just looked it up uh luke and laura episode
13:54still the highest rated uh soap opera episode ever more than 30 million viewers it was crazy
