00:00They're building this foundation potentially for their next quarterback.
00:04And we had talked about it on the last episode, Kaz and Frankie,
00:07about are the Jets going to be able to trade up
00:10if they end up with another win this year,
00:12they end up with four wins,
00:13and they end in that five to seven range in the draft.
00:16It doesn't seem like a strong quarterback class right now
00:18with just Mendoza.
00:19We don't know the situation with Moore and Simpson.
00:22So are they going to be able to trade up for that quarterback?
00:25Kaz had mentioned, look, maybe not,
00:28just because it's few options in the draft.
00:31So we haven't really talked about,
00:33and something we might talk about in the offseason is,
00:35could there be veteran options for the Jets to look at
00:38for the quarterback position that we haven't even talked about?
00:41So for Gag Sounds Off,
00:43I think I might have found a veteran quarterback option for the Jets.
00:48If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it.
00:54You know, I've been through a lot,
00:55and if it's not fun, then what am I doing it for?
00:58So that's the mindset I'm trying to bring to the table.
01:04Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems frustrating.
01:08There's just a lot of things going on right now.
01:10A lot of things going on right now.
01:11Football-related, personally?
01:13All of the above.
01:14Like you said, there's nothing.
01:16All we can do is focus week to week and try to win games.
01:21I don't think anybody's really thinking about the playoffs right now.
01:26That's within reach, but on our fingertips.
01:35So we just got to keep doing what we're doing and try to get better.
01:39So, look.
01:41Ooh.
01:42Look.
01:43A lot of people took it two ways for the Burrow sound.
01:48The first being that he seems disappointed,
01:51and you have to love what you're doing,
01:53which gives a lot of people thought about the Joe Burrow,
01:57Andrew Luck comparisons of a guy who's been beat up a lot in his career.
02:01He's dealt with a ton of injuries.
02:02He's been sacked a lot, more than any other quarterback in the NFL.
02:05And there's questions about will he pull an Andrew Luck
02:10and just decide to hang it up, and I've had enough of this game.
02:14I've gotten the most out of what I can.
02:15I just don't want to keep beating my body up.
02:17That's one angle.
02:18The other angle is how I'm presenting this to you, Kaz and Frankie.
02:22If he is disappointed in Cincinnati,
02:25and the Jets have all of this capital,
02:28five first-round picks in the next two years,
02:31Kaz, you've got to be picking up that phone in the offseason
02:33and saying, hey, what's it going to take for me
02:36to get Joe Burrow on the New York Jets?
02:39Am I crazy?
02:41You're not crazy to say they should pick up the phone.
02:43You're crazy to think it can happen.
02:46There's two huge obstacles, in my view.
02:49Okay.
02:50One, Joe Burrow has a no-trade clause.
02:53Why would he want to play for the Jets?
02:56He just said the word fun.
02:57I know, fun.
02:59He had the word, you know, he's having fun.
03:01Has there been a lot of fun around here in the last 15 years?
03:03No.
03:04Right?
03:05Like, I just think if –
03:06and, like, look, any team that needs a quarterback
03:09is probably in the same boat as the Jets.
03:10I'm not saying the Jets are different than pick a team
03:14that needs a quarterback and the Raiders or something like that.
03:16But Joe Burrow doesn't strike me as a guy.
03:19I don't know Joe Burrow.
03:20Maybe I'm completely wrong.
03:21It doesn't strike me a guy that really would want to be in New York.
03:23It doesn't seem like a –
03:26like that that would be the thing for him,
03:27like that he would desperately want to be here.
03:29He doesn't seem like a guy who wants to be in a ton of commercials
03:32and that kind of stuff.
03:33So that's the one thing.
03:35The second thing is the Bengals, right?
03:36Like, the Bengals are a different organization than most organizations.
03:40Even if the Jets are throwing a ton of stuff at them,
03:43I just think the Bengals are going to dig their heels in and say,
03:45yeah, we're not trading them.
03:46Even if Joe Burrow is like, I don't want to play for this team anymore.
03:49We saw with Trey Hendrickson last year, right?
03:52They fought him all the way to the season.
03:55Going way back, Carson Palmer had to retire.
03:59You know, they wouldn't trade Carson Palmer.
04:00He retired.
04:01And I think then they traded him, what, like a year later to the Raiders,
04:03something like that.
04:04So this won't be like a – you know, I just can't see it happening.
04:10I'd be stunned if the Bengals traded Joe Burrow,
04:12and I'd be stunned if he was traded if he picked the Jets as the team he wanted to go to.
04:17Right.
04:17I also think if the Bengals do do this, they're going to ship him to the NFC.
04:21Like, right?
04:22Like, you're still trying to win if you're Cincinnati.
04:25So I think if you have, like, you know, I think you're trying to get to the NFC.
04:29Now the Jets maybe could go, well, we have five draft picks.
04:31Exactly.
04:32That's my pushback.
04:33They have more capital than anyone else in the NFL right now to throw at the Bengals.
04:36Yeah.
04:37I think it's one of the first two things.
04:39I just don't see Joe Burrow wanting the Jets,
04:41and I don't see the Bengals just capitulating to what he wants.
04:45If that's what he wants.
04:46Yeah.
04:46I mean, I hear you guys completely on both points,
04:48but what I will say is a lot of people thought the same thing about Aaron Rodgers
04:52until he eventually made his decision that he wanted to come to the Jets.
04:57Yes.
04:58Aaron Rodgers is a guy, though, you can see wanting New York a little bit.
05:01Like, he doesn't like attention.
05:04He does like to be front and center, so that sort of made a little sense there.
05:09And I think things, the writing on the wall by the end there was more with the Packers.
05:15You know, he also, how old was he when the trade happened?
05:18I can't remember, 38, 39?
05:20I think he was 39 going on 40.
05:22Yeah.
05:22Joe Burrow is 29.
05:23Am I correct?
05:24Which is why it's so tantalizing if the Jets were eating.
05:28But not just Cincinnati.
05:30If I'm saying, like, for Cincinnati's view, why would Cincinnati trade him?
05:33Well, I think, again, they might have no choice if their quarterback says,
05:37I don't want to play for you anymore.
05:38You always have a choice, Ryan.
05:39How many times do we hear this guy wants to trade?
05:41How many times do we hear that a year?
05:43Like, let's go San Francisco.
05:45Just take the 49ers.
05:46How many guys have demanded to trade from the 49ers?
05:48And they said, no.
05:50But, like, you're not.
05:50We're not trading you.
05:51Like, more guys who demand a trade don't get traded than do get traded.
05:55Right.
05:56But there's certainly been a shift, though, I think, in the modern athlete now
05:59in the way in terms of NFL, even professional teams now,
06:02have gone sort of the NBA route where a player demands a trade.
06:06He's a star player.
06:07And they're kind of at the mercy of that player,
06:09either giving him a contract extension and paying him more money to stay here,
06:13or they do end up having to force their hand and trade him
06:16because he doesn't want to play for them anymore.
06:18And he holds out.
06:20Yeah.
06:20I just think Lamar Jackson demanded a trade, right?
06:23Like, he's still in Baltimore.
06:24Like, there's been the last five years,
06:27I can name, like, 20 guys who demanded a trade and didn't get traded.
06:29Like, it happens all the time.
06:31And, again, the Bengals are a different organization.
06:34They operate in a different way than everybody,
06:38all the other 31 other teams.
06:40Frankie, what are your thoughts on all this of Joe Burrow?
06:43Well, my thoughts are this.
06:45You want to end this Joe Namath curse, this Broadway Joe curse?
06:49Get the new Broadway Joe in here.
06:52I think that's the way to do it.
06:53Get the new Broadway Joe.
06:55No, listen, I think the only way that this were to, if this were to happen,
07:00the only way that it would make sense for Joe Burrow is him telling himself,
07:04hey, I'm going to be able to go to a team that actually has a unit that we just spoke about,
07:09a really good old line that will finally be able to protect me a bit.
07:14He's gone through injuries, and people have speculated why those injuries have happened,
07:19and they've blamed the old line.
07:20I think it would be a home run for the Jets, but I agree with Kaz, man.
07:26It's, Ryan, this stuff, this is pipe dream stuff when you're talking about a 29-year-old.
07:32We're talking about an aging vet like Rogers was that's a little bit different.
07:37The market's not really there.
07:39Joe Burrow is a top-five quarterback, and you have three.
07:44I would argue top three.
07:45You could argue that, yeah.
07:46You'd have teams lining up that even have quarterbacks that want Joe Burrow.
07:50You'd have the Texans with C.J. Stroud lining up.
07:53You'd have the Panthers with Bryce Young.
07:55You'd have everyone lining up, really, unless you have, you know,
07:59a Josh Allen, Lamar, or Dakin.
08:02Maybe they would line up, too, the Ravens.
08:05Who knows?
08:05I'm just saying.
08:06So that's how good Joe Burrow is.
08:08You have to consider that.
08:09Right, but none of them have – Frankie, none of them have the Jets draft capital.
08:14None of them.
08:15That is true.
08:16That's what I'm trying to say to this about this all.
08:18Let's say in this crazy scenario that I'm laying out, Joe Burrow does want out,
08:23and the Bengals are getting their hand forced.
08:26I just – the Jets would be crazy not to go all in and say,
08:31we're going after Joe Burrow.
08:32We're offering the five first-round picks.
08:34Whatever it's going to take, we'll take the contract.
08:35You'd offer them all?
08:36I'd offer them all for him because Frankie –
08:38Wow.
08:39Wow.
08:40Well, hang on, guys.
08:41So let's be honest here.
08:42No, it's not that crazy, but it is crazy.
08:45It is crazy.
08:46The only issue I have with Joe Burrow is his health, right?
08:49Like, you're – he hasn't been able to stay healthy, right?
08:52Like, you do have to take that into account.
08:54A hundred percent.
08:55But he's also the only guy I've seen take the Bengals to the Super Bowl in my lifetime
08:59and also be able to do what he's done at this age.
09:05I just – you're talking about a franchise that has not won anything recently
09:09and hasn't been to the playoffs in over 15 years, going on 16,
09:13and we're lacking that franchise quarterback since Joe Willie Namath.
09:17So if you're telling me I could get my franchise guy, hell yes.
09:20I am all in.
09:21Because the other thing, Frankie and Kaz, that we haven't mentioned is
09:24you don't have to draft the guy and hope that he develops into a Joe Burrow.
09:29You know what you're getting with Joe Burrow, which is superstar quarterback.
09:34If he's healthy.
09:36If he's healthy.
09:36That's the one.
09:37That's the one.
09:37But the Jets have a better offensive line to protect him.
09:40They have a better offensive line to protect him than the Bengals do.
09:43He's still playing football, though.
09:44Like, you know, I get it.
09:46But it's not – that's not all on the offensive line.
09:48But he's the most sacked quarterback in the NFL.
09:51I get it.
09:51I get it.
09:52But, like, I'd have to look at every injury he's had, though.
09:54It's all been on sacks.
09:56Well, the foot injury, the toe injury that he just had was because he was
09:59constantly under pressure and he's trying to – I mean, like –
10:03I know.
10:03He's still playing football, though.
10:04Like, you're – I realize we're putting the Jets tackles in the Hall of Fame
10:09already, but, like, their offensive line is okay.
10:12It's okay right now.
10:13Like, let's not – like, this isn't – so I just –
10:16I still think the injuries would be a concern.
10:19But, yeah, I get it.
10:19They have to – they would have to try if he was available.
10:21I agree with you.
10:22Like, it's a home run if they can do it.
10:24I don't know if I'd give up five first-round picks for him.
10:28Ryan, I'll ask you this.
10:29Is Joe Burrow – is he used goods?
10:33Is he, like, a used car or is he more towards a new car?
10:36Because I'm thinking he's a little bit more towards a used car at this point,
10:41given the injuries.
10:42I'm just saying I don't think you're getting – you're not getting –
10:45You're getting primed Joe Burrow.
10:46You're getting primed Joe Burrow.
10:48If Joe Burrow came here and the Jets – if Joe Burrow came here
10:52and the Jets still stunk, that would end all you guys.
10:55Yeah, it would.
10:55That would be the end.
10:56That would be the end, right?
10:58I think – I feel like the Rodgers piece – the Rodgers piece broke a lot of Jets fans.
11:03Burrow – if Burrow was here and the Jets were still bad,
11:05that would just demolish the entire fan base.
11:07It would be the last season in the Netflix documentary of the Jets fan base.
11:13It would be the ultimate – like, this franchise is cursed.
11:16This franchise is ultimately cursed and it's never going to win again.
11:19But, again, Frankie, I disagree with you tremendously on this point.
11:22Like, Joe Burrow, I understand.
11:23I hear you guys on the injury part.
11:25I think he's been beat the hell up,
11:26and that's why you're hearing the comments he's making right now.
11:29The team has not supported him the way they should have
11:31in terms of the offensive line and protecting him.
11:33And I also don't think his offensive coach, his head coach, is a great coach,
11:37to be honest with you, and Zach Taylor.
11:38I never thought he was a good head coach.
11:40I don't think he puts him in the best offensive scheme.
11:42I think he's frustrated with that too.
11:44So, there's a lot of elements there.
11:46And I just think if you're telling me a 29-year-old, in his prime,
11:50one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL,
11:53and you could trade a ton of assets to get him, it's a proven commodity.
11:56And I wouldn't hesitate to ever go for that.
11:59And the Jets have a ton of caps for it too.
12:01Go ahead.
12:02Sorry, let me ask you a question.
12:03Last year or two years ago, I was very concerned about that wrist injury
12:08that he sustained because they were saying that he might never be able
12:11to throw the ball the same again.
12:13Now, he's proven that to be wrong, I'd say.
12:16But does it creep back up?
12:19Is he going to have lingering issues with that in a year or two if he takes a hit?
12:23I mean, I'm just saying.
12:24Patrick Mahomes has got a knee brace on.
12:26I mean, Patrick Mahomes has got a knee brace on.
12:28We saw him nursing that this past weekend.
12:29Like, are you concerned about that knee injury constantly flaring up?
12:34Like, that's what I'm saying, though, Frankie.
12:35Like, it's just you never know with these guys.
12:37This wrist thing was scary, though.
12:38It was potentially career-ending they were talking about at the time.
12:41I'm just saying this is one of, like, five injury issues with Burrow.
12:44And, Ryan, I'm with you.
12:46Two first-rounders?
12:47Yes.
12:48Three?
12:48Yes.
12:49Five?
12:51I'm the same word.
12:53I have three first-round picks.
12:55I would do it.
12:56I would do it.
12:57If you had to trade the two picks in 26 and the Jets pick in 27,
13:04and then probably they'd probably have to throw, like, a second-round pick in as well,
13:08go for it.
13:09Like, I'm with you on most of this, Rod.
13:11Like, he is a – I think he is in his prime.
13:14I don't think he's done.
13:16I think quarterbacks are a different timeline than every other player.
13:20So, I think he can play for a long time still.
13:22I think if you think about Peyton Manning going to the Broncos
13:24and what he did there late in his career,
13:25or Tom Brady with the Buccaneers,
13:27and this guy isn't even close to being that late in his career,
13:30I would – I just don't know what player I'd give five first-round picks up for.
13:35Like, that's – you do have other holes on this team.
13:37Completely.
13:39Yeah.
13:39So, I just – I would hesitate to do five, I think.
13:42Yeah.
13:42I mean, look, you also have a ton of cap space to play with.
13:45They still – yeah.
13:46I mean, again, we're playing the whatever.
13:48But free agents suck.
13:51They do.
13:51They do.
13:52All right.
13:54That's a fun conversation,
13:55but I think it sparks different parts of your mind here,
13:58Kaz and Frankie,
13:59about, like, those veteran quarterback options that we haven't even talked about,
14:02which is why I thought it was fascinating after our episode.
14:05It's like, holy crap, Joe Burrow does not sound happy in Cincinnati right now.
14:08And it just makes you wonder, like,
14:10what other quarterbacks could become available in the offseason
14:12that we're not even talking about.
14:14Yeah.
14:15That's happened the last few years.
14:16I mean, the last five years that's happened where –
14:18look, the Detroit-L.A. trade was a shock.
14:21They're playing this week, right?
14:22That Stafford-Goff thing, no one saw that coming.
14:25The Rodgers deal to the – like, Rodgers,
14:27that was shocking when he actually became available when we realized that.
14:31And, you know, there's always a surprise, it feels like,
14:35in January, February now.
14:36So, definitely somebody could shake for you that we're not talking about.
14:39Yep.
14:39So, it just – it makes you think about it.
14:42And, look, we have still a month to go before the season is over,
14:46but I am getting excited about just talking about these things
14:49with finding the next Jets quarterback
14:51and hopefully a franchise quarterback.
14:53We'll be back.
