00:00Sonic Universe issue 54. It starts with Blaze and Maureen running towards a portal with Echidna statues near them, and it looks like they're in a castle. I guess Maureen insisted on going along with her.
00:14Blaze says that people shouldn't have used the Soul Emerald as their crown jewel. An explosion ends up going behind them, but I guess they've got rings since they survived long enough to get to the portal out of there.
00:26Blaze compliments Maureen, but no, of course not. Maureen didn't build the portal.
00:32That would have actually been acknowledging that at the end of Rush Adventures she made a watercraft and vowed to keep getting better at engineering.
00:40Instead she found abandoned checkpoints from a busted craft of a zone comp.
00:46You know you don't have to be exactly like the games with Archie, right?
00:50But it does take Skillivert to fix them up. So it does acknowledge that she's learning engineering.
00:57And since she's only just started learning in Rush Adventure, it's realistic that she wouldn't have advanced to God Mode this fast.
01:05What a relief. With the way she talked and looked nervous, I found it familiar and was thinking she'd say someone else was completely responsible for this portal being something she can use.
01:16Eventually Blaze reassures her that she's still proud of her, saying what I did to make sure people aren't too disappointed.
01:24What would be the point of making her just like Tails that way when she's not popular when she could have a unique role as an amateur inventor?
01:33The next day, Maureen says a new signal came in and they found a soul emerald.
01:38A new signal?
01:39But she's just been established as an amateur, so she kind of made this tech.
01:44Since when can any zone cop tech detect the soul emeralds from another universe?
01:50I guess the zone cops did want to help Blaze.
01:53Or it's a chaos emerald detector that can detect soul emeralds too, because let's face it, what's the difference besides shape?
02:00There's no proof that the absence of the chaos emeralds won't eventually destroy Mobius.
02:05Fortunately, Blaze points out that they should have picked up a reading earlier, and so this is happening because someone's misusing the emerald.
02:14It's cynical of her to assume it's misuse, but this girl is insanely cynical in Treasure Team Tango.
02:22They go through the portal, and for no reason, while she can sense the soul emerald, it seems distorted just because of the world she's in.
02:30That's dumb.
02:32Pretty soon, King Charmy must have seen them going out of the portal.
02:36Because he immediately thinks they're trespassers and wonders if they stand with the resistance.
02:42Huh, so something interesting is going on in the reverse universe.
02:47Good.
02:48Why in the world is the king and his vanguard just standing outside in a big field instead of inside of a building?
02:56Even if you are out for a walk because this king cares about physical fitness, it makes it confusing that there's no roads anywhere so far.
03:05You don't go jogging in some huge field.
03:08I hope it explains why the hell Charmy even knows these guys.
03:13Since on Mobius, Charmy only met Vector from running away from home because he wasn't power hungry enough to want to be a king someday.
03:20And Vector only met Charmy because he's an orphan, so he eventually ran away to Angel Island, where Charmy happened to go because another runaway friend was also heading there.
03:29Vector's from down under.
03:31His parents here could have been immigrants because they hated their old country and thought Golden Hive was the lesser evil.
03:37And if the comic insists on keeping canon that Espyo met Knuckles because he was sent to spy on him, then the same would be the case in the reverse universe because the brotherhood there would be evil.
03:46And the ninja clan would still be scared of them inconveniencing them, so he should be spying on other Knuckles.
03:53I guess he's serving Charmy as an old alliance between the chameleon clan and Charmy's kingdom.
03:59And another thing that's creative, I'd never considered that its version of Vector would be a coward.
04:05The alternate versions of all of the other characters still share their core personality traits like coolness, only being different with morality.
04:14But it's easy to explain it as a different upbringing.
04:17Vector's from an orphanage that he hated so much he left and joined a gang, so Vector is the evil Vector.
04:24Maybe he's still evil too, but cowardly, and so the thing about a Vector is that they're neutral, so they both have 50% potential to be either.
04:32I thought he was saying an evil Blaze lived here because I was so used to seeing new ideas.
04:38Instead he wants to kill her simply for lying about being a princess.
04:43Why a royal figure in an absolute monarchy would turn out evil doesn't need an explanation.
04:50It's easy to assume he had abusive parents.
04:53And we probably were supposed to assume that with every evil twin because their parents would be morally switched too, so they'd be abusive.
05:00While not every victim of abusive parents turns out evil, being evil means they're more likely to drink or do drugs while pregnant.
05:08So of course they turn out with anger issues because that can be a result of fetal alcohol syndrome.
05:12Out of nowhere, Scottish Knuckles, who finally looks more different than Knuckles, comes here when he wasn't there before for no apparent reason as a Deus Ex Machina to lecture Vector that he told them never to take up arms against those not looking to fight.
05:28So why is someone who belongs to an Atlantanopolis working for an evil King Charmy, and why is he in a real position to power over Charmy to the point where Charmy won't tell him off with her head for this?
05:39Maybe evil Charmy really did run away from home, but because he didn't think being a king would be a fun job.
05:45But then Scottish Knuckles brought him back.
05:48Okay, but I can't understand why Knuckles has power over a king from another nation.
05:53I can believe that Atlantanopolis made an alliance with Golden Hive out of desperation after being ransacked for its emeralds by Scourge.
06:00But then Golden Hive would be the one with all the power in that situation.
06:04I'll just naturally assume that Golden Hive was still around in the world that's supposed to contrast Mobius after all.
06:12There's some expected talking after this.
06:15How convenient that King Charmy now thinks he can believe Blaze's claim about being a princess, when he had no reason to change his mind.
06:24O'Nux says he's the leader of the Orderics and the whole Resistance, while thankfully interrupting the king.
06:32Won't the king be the leader of the Resistance?
06:35I guess Scourge revealed to the entire world with irrefutable proof that there's another world with counterparts of the people there to make them feel insecure enough to change their names.
06:44And it's conveniently worked for everyone I've seen.
06:48But you'd think some people would have still held out.
06:51He says his other members are King Charmy, Raster, and Sun.
06:56There's no reason given for why Espio would choose that name.
07:00Or why he was given it.
07:03Realistically, the evil versions of Espio and Charmy don't get along at all.
07:08It reminds me of Fleetway.
07:10Then O'Nux smartly ignores the argument and says that another Guardian came romping through here in 44.
07:18Who he implies to be female.
07:20I don't remember that.
07:22So it's too bad he doesn't elaborate.
07:25He says it could be dangerous to spend too long out here so they can explain things in the city.
07:30If it was dangerous to be here, then why were the Orderics here?
07:35It's creative again because he says they're not the villains of this world, which is only justified by the Chaotix being a neutral team at best in Heroes.
07:43And just a group of friends that happens to fight in self-defense because they're friends with Knuckles and Archie.
07:49And since Vector happily saved Eggman from where he was imprisoned, Neutral is being nice to him.
07:56I think Charming is evil and he's just on his team out of desperate circumstance.
08:01The Resistance is trying to protect their world from them, but he wouldn't just stick to saying them.
08:07Scourge complains about still being stuck in tunnels and tries to justify it because Miles got the jump on him.
08:13He says Fanitavus had shown up on this world.
08:16So if he'd been in charge when he came here, he could have not decided to find a scepter for him.
08:21And it shows him being made to float above him with telekinesis that Fanitavus never had.
08:27I can assume that Fanitavus used cybernetic upgrades to do that.
08:31So it is justified in Universe that the writer completely ignored Flynn's intention to have Scourge not go work for Fanitavus yet again.
08:39It's good pacing that I kept this to one panel in a flashback at least.
08:43I was expecting a whole scene that picked up from where he left off.
08:47That would have taken forever.
08:49And I'd rather just instantly cut to being in a new situation.
08:52But the good thing about him not working for him again is that it would have been more creative than just repeating the same plot point.
08:59But even if he was just going with his own plan, he would just do what he did all over again.
09:05Become the leader of the suppression squad again.
09:08At least if he's working for Fanitavus, he's also doing something extra on top of that.
09:13I sure hope that Fanitavus upgraded himself.
09:17Because if he got upgraded by joining Eggman, then he's literally just Dr. Zachary now.
09:23That's not creative.
09:24It would actually be impressive if he upgraded himself.
09:27Because he's supposed to be a scientist.
09:31He whines that he's hiding under the castle and he can't use any of the anarchy barrels or the machine will overload.
09:37His exposition about stuff he already knows is justified because he's whining.
09:41And people whine about stuff they already know for catharsis in real life.
09:45Eventually Predator Hawk says he's spotted Blaze.
09:49And Fanitavus had already anticipated that she'd come here eventually.
09:53I have to assume that he came here because he knew about Blaze looking for the Soul Emeralds.
09:57Sonic did meet Blaze when Fiona was still on the team.
10:01So he couldn't know she was looking for them and what they looked like because Fiona was told to tell him everything.
10:07Why is the evil Castle Acorn still called Castle Scourge?
10:11That makes no sense.
10:13Miles does graffiti on the wall.
10:15And surprisingly out of nowhere Alisha lectures him that he's got better things to do than work on his art project.
10:23Which confirms to my headcan that he's more of an artist than Tails.
10:27When she was sucking up to him that he's the real leader last time.
10:31Well things can change over time but I'd sure like to know why.
10:35It's satisfying to see that his friends could get tired of him though.
10:39That gives me hope.
10:41But I have to wonder how that's possible if it took so long.
10:45Patch Lampshade said he should be finding a way to get rid of Scourge.
10:49And Miles says eventually that alterations in maintenance to the castle have been crucial to their success.
10:55And eventually says that they saw with their own eyes that their enhanced enforcers kept Scourge at bay.
11:00But what does that have to do with them scratching on the wall?
11:04Why does nobody point out this?
11:07If it wasn't just an art project she wouldn't call it just an art project.
11:12He says once they've beaten the resistance Alisha will rule the whole world.
11:17She'll totally love all of the work that'll be to run.
11:20Then a woman warps to them in a polluting pop of smoke.
11:24And says they should have more faith in her nephew's abilities.
11:27Which is sweet.
11:29It's cool that they went with Miles being a wizard to contrast.
11:33But I would expect his uncle Merlin to be here if you're gonna do that.
11:37I guess they thought most people wanted that.
11:39But also they'd be seen as lame for being predictable if they did it exactly like everyone expected.
11:44Maybe the Merlin of this world had a sex change.
11:48It's possible when they already had a lesbian couple earlier.
11:51I'm happier to see an aunt than an uncle and it's a change of pace.
11:55Either that or...
11:57It is far more believable that a world wouldn't have the entire world's population of exact counterparts to the other world.
12:05When the butterfly effect would make that nearly impossible.
12:09Different morality could mean different preferences in dating partners.
12:13Her parents could have had a girl instead.
12:16Or an extra kid.
12:17I can feel the passion from this writer.
12:19He really cared about this to have come up with so many new ideas when he didn't technically have to.
12:25That's good because I was actually reluctant to read this as soon as possible because of how unlikable the evil twins are.
12:32This makes up for it because it's still interesting.
12:35And it's recapturing the most interesting Archie Sonic's ever been.
12:39This alternate universe what if scenario.
12:41Where just seeing other counterparts makes me think.
12:45So this is why they're tired of him.
12:47Because he likes her.
12:48And they're afraid of her.
12:49A woman who came out of nowhere to just now get back into Miles' life.
12:54Who knows why she took so long.
12:57He would have gotten famous for being with Alicia as soon as he joined her.
13:02And that would have been years ago.
13:04Well hopefully she just took this long to find out where Miles was.
13:08Because she's not interested in keeping up with the news.
13:11And lives in another country normally.
13:13And his parents abandoned him somewhere she didn't know where he was.
13:17And she may not have learned where he was.
13:19She might not have even known he existed until very recently.
13:23She says his magical skills have come a long way.
13:27I assume what she's saying here is that he learns to augment.
13:31As in add magical power to others.
13:34That could only be possible without weakening himself.
13:37If how it works is he changes their DNA to be able to tap into the magic that's already all over the world.
13:43And I'd say store it because I hate the idea that any Sonic characters couldn't use their magic any other planet.
13:50And he loves being petted with hearts above him.
13:53Which is a sweet and creative surprise.
13:55He's not as one dimensional now.
13:57He also thanks her and calls her Morgana.
14:01An anti even.
14:03Doesn't necessarily prove me wrong that she's Merlin.
14:06Because Merlin could have seen Merlina as the lazy name change it is.
14:10And the writer could have also noticed that and thought there'd be backlash because Merlina is already a separate character in the games.
14:17Miles is impressively humble by downplaying her praise of him against himself.
14:23She also puts her hand on his shoulder.
14:26Eventually after he says he's got magical wards to warn him of any threat.
14:31She says his wards can't tell him from where the threat will come because Miles is too lame so far.
14:38She shows him in a crystal ball his later threat.
14:41And somehow I'm supposed to believe that the other universe Angel Island kept the name Demon Island.
14:48If Alicia has power over it now because Scourge attacked it.
14:52Then why don't you make sure it keeps that exact name?
14:55Keeping it the way it was would be humoring Scourge.
14:58She could have changed it to Devil Island if she thought the idea was cool.
15:03It's nice of O'Nux to ask if Blaze is alright.
15:07Her caution gets used because she's irrationally scared of seeing the ocean life around her in the tube.
15:14Somehow parts of Atlantan Apollos are still damaged after all this time. Somehow.
15:20He even says they're rebuilding.
15:22So why isn't it rebuilt by now?
15:25He says the last member of the Order X is supervising the work.
15:29And for no reason at first they keep Nailson's silhouette when she wouldn't be.
15:34While it isn't created to call the other Rouge by her prototype name.
15:38I like the reference. And I bet most people do.
15:41So it was the better idea.
15:43I'm sure people would have complained about them not using the name.
15:46Well then they better call the other Shadow Terios.
15:49She says her security systems never fail.
15:53Hopefully this means she's got unexpected deaths because she invented them.
15:57She says she doesn't have time for this Nail because the city needs her.
16:01Even though she was just looking for him.
16:03And it's supposed to be from a crush on her.
16:05Either that or she wants a jewel on Blaze's forehead.
16:08But Rouge is evil in Archie.
16:11So Nails wouldn't be.
16:13Naturally Blaze doesn't trust Nails because Rouge tried to destroy her planet.
16:18I'm supposed to believe that being loyal to the core is a rare thing on Mobius.
16:24Totally ignoring that loyalty can be to the wrong people or things.
16:28Or go too far to the point of evil fanaticism that makes you mistreat everyone who likes what you don't.
16:34It's neutral.
16:36The next position I already know.
16:38He confirms to my headcanon that their King Acorn began running the place into the ground.
16:44He wanted to wage war and was doing it to rile up his subjects.
16:48Why would an absolute monarch think he needs the support of his subjects first to be able to wage war when he could just enact a draft?
16:56They would have fought just as hard in war anyways to protect themselves.
17:01And being mad would have made them more likely to make mistakes.
17:04And he could have achieved this with negative ad campaigns against other countries without being self-destructive.
17:10He's an idiot.
17:12I think the many were his former fans trying to defend him any way they could.
17:17After a bunch of exposition I already knew.
17:20Where it at least confirms that the anti-freedom fighters were indeed only nuisances.
17:25It eventually explains that Charming treats his weird looking fiance like a slave.
17:30I don't see why Lavender is sticking up for him and lying when she isn't on his side.
17:36She would be the evil Saffron.
17:38So why would she be obedient instead of just running away?
17:42Eventually Blaze thanks them.
17:44And she eventually says responsibly that she doesn't want them drawn into her quest.
17:49Onuk says that if she throws his suppression squad out of the castle they'll help her get the emerald.
17:55Blaze says no for no reason and somehow has to be told the obvious reason that she'll end up doing what they want anyways.
18:03Then out of nowhere Onuk goes into a room bowing and says he's come to the matriarch to pay his respects to someone who's watching his meeting from cameras.
18:13Who's worried that Blaze might betray him.
18:16I don't know who she's supposed to be because if that was his version of Julie Sue she'd be his girlfriend.
18:21So he wouldn't be treating her like an authority figure.
18:24I doubt the writer will make Onuk's evil.
18:29Because obviously that'd make the fans mad.
18:32The whole appeal of Onuk's is the subversiveness of him being a good person despite being from the evil world.
18:39Which reflects how Knuckles is a neutral character who just hangs out with heroes in the games.
18:44Making him evil would make no sense since he's still a pacifist.
18:47But it does make sense that he'd join the dark legion since it contrasts Knuckles.
18:52And that the dark legion would be good in this world to contrast the evil one.
18:56So it's a red herring if the writer knows what he's doing.
18:59So is Julie Sue being paranoid?
19:02Just because the character's untrusting doesn't mean she's evil.
19:05That could just be from the bad parents that she would've had.
19:08Julie could just be the leader because the good version of her sister didn't want to rule since she's too humble.
19:14Matriarch reminds me of the Albion government.
19:17Which has nothing to do with the Kidnapolis.
19:20So I don't know why that's reversed.
19:23They go in front of the castle.
19:25And how is Blaze stupid enough to assume this is Cream in a world full of counterparts?
19:30At least she asks if it really is her.
19:33So there's some don't.
19:35Anti-Cream acts unwaveringly polite in a creepy way.
19:38Which is more creative.
19:40Because you'd expect them to jump at the chance to portray an evil twin of hers in the opposite crazy psychopath way that fan animations do with Cream jokingly.
19:49She almost crunches her with a falling boulder covered in blue fire.
19:53So I guess the reason Blaze dodged it was that she suspected the hand gesture was summoning something against her.
19:59And it turns out the Enhanced Enforcers aren't just random nobodies.
20:04In them is another version of Mina and Rang.
20:07And the only armadillo I've seen besides Mighty is his sister.
20:11So it'd have to be her, but she's not dressed like it.
20:14Ray's supposed to be on Angel Island. Why is he even here?
20:19If it was Mighty, why would Mighty not be Red?
20:23So it's gotta be his sister.
20:25The armadillo can fly.
20:27Wait, Mighty's from, like, England.
20:30Why in the world is she here?
20:32Well, I guess her parents moved to a place that was being run into the ground.
20:37The artist is really trying too hard to make Cream look scary.
20:41It's not like it's a good fight scene to watch, aside from seeing the new ideas.
20:47Because you never see the actual impact when the bad guys get hurt.
20:51The other Mina has allowed Sonic wave producing power, which doesn't make sense for Miles to have figured out to give her.
20:57Mina only became a singer because Sonic happened to hear her sing in the shower because he was already her friend,
21:03and cared enough about her to encourage her into being a pop singer.
21:07Nails thinks that the Evil Cream got turned into a monster, but it's the Evil Cream.
21:12Why would she have known her in the past to know for sure?
21:15It's also new that Sun can shoot a laser from his hand.
21:19Nothing else interesting is being introduced.
21:22It turns out Evil Cream can take a new form that actually does sort of look menacing, and she throws a dead Chao as a weapon.
21:30And it's rare for her character to get elbowed in the series in a fight.
21:34Someone called Mangle ends up accidentally hurt.
21:38I don't know why that's the name.
21:40O'Nux decides to retreat while Blaze uses fire to make it so that they can get away.
21:45Since Blaze got told that one of the bad guys could have been good before she was transformed,
21:50she could be thinking there's a possibility all of them are, and could be her turn to normal.
21:55So even if she wasn't a pacifist, she'd still not risk killing them with her fire.
22:00And because they're organic beings, I was never wondering why she wasn't using her overpowered firepower to instantly win the fight.
22:06This is how you do a Blaze story right reboot.
22:10Blaze barely had any experience fighting people with fire.
22:13So she doesn't know how to both burn them with it and hold back so that she won't kill them.
22:18It was never established that she could throw a big fireball at them that would be low enough temperature that it'd only instantly debilitate them.
22:26Raster says he's scared of fire.
22:29So he thinks they could have Blaze scare the evil Rey with it.
22:32But logically all of them would be scared of it.
22:35And we get to see Marine land in a puddle.
22:38At least she hasn't been really annoying.
22:40Eventually, after somehow Raster forgets Sun's full title or won't be respectful enough to use it despite being polite,
22:48he tells Sun to keep the armadillo occupied and tells Blaze to try to contain the squirrel.
22:53It's good to give him something to contribute this way.
22:56But they could have also had him be a good fighter.
22:59To be fair, maybe people wouldn't have liked Blaze making the plan.
23:02Insisting that she didn't make plans in the games and so was just making her Sally for good.
23:08But I would have expected her to have made a plan in Rush Adventure at some point.
23:12Or was it seriously just Tails and Sonic because of preferential treatment?
23:17The story is too forgettable for me to remember all of its little details.
23:21Because it's in visual novel style.
23:23Blaze traps the evil Rey called the dark and edgy name of Pain.
23:28Buns shows up to help by trapping someone and stuff.
23:31Since there's trees around them and her teammates in between her and Evil Cream,
23:35it makes sense that she can't just trap everybody fighting her by making a really big fire orb.
23:40But she should do that the next time she approaches them.
23:44Surprisingly, it ends up turning out that they're gonna run away from the fight,
23:48but still one of them says that if they go to the castle again, there'll be another fight.
23:52When they have no reason to believe the heroes won't follow them because they came here to get to the castle.
23:58Surprisingly, Blaze hopes she impressed people by taunting a brainwashed slave with fire
24:03that she had no way of knowing was always evil for sure.
24:06It's unusually cruel for a former bullying victim actually, so maybe it was out of character.
24:12And surprisingly again, Buns taunts her that she doesn't swing that way.
24:17O'Nux says thanks for responding to his message for help that the good version of Eggman heard and relayed to her.
24:23It's nice of O'Nux to ask if everyone else is alright.
24:26Blaze notices that Maureen's not with her,
24:29and the story ends expecting us to care that Maureen's gonna get kidnapped by Miles,
24:34because she somehow stayed knocked out for all that time for narrative plot conveniences sake.
24:40I just hope that turning her back to normal doesn't rob her of the powers she'll get from this,
24:45because then it'll all be worth it.
24:47This was by Calvin Sky.
24:50This was actually a fantastic issue because of the sheer amount of creativity it had,
24:55and the relatively good pacing,
24:57and the story making sense.
24:59With the arc far from over,
25:01I like that it's already foreshadowing that Miles' friends are gonna get tired of him,
25:05so he won't be compelled to do what they want anymore.
25:08Blaze goes to what was originally called the reverse universe,
25:12because Benidiv has found her Emerald first,
25:14and she detected it with abandoned zone cop tech when it was used in some vague machine of his,
25:20which I assume was there because they were chasing Eggmanega,
25:23and they left some stuff behind when he shot a craft of theirs.
25:27I mean, it happened in Treasure Team Tango, so why not?
25:30But to get there in the tunnels below the castle,
25:33she joins the other Chaotics,
25:35who are conveniently a resistance against Miles instead of a dictator's vanguard
25:39that all know each other anyways for some reason.
25:42I could come up with answers for why.
25:44It still should have been explained,
25:46like why Morgana took so long to find Miles.
25:50She tries and fails to be a team of magically enhanced people.
25:54I guess she was too startled by seeing them at first,
25:57and too scared by seeing Cream,
26:00to immediately surround them in a fire orb.
26:03And even if she did,
26:05she wouldn't be able to leave and go to the castle.
26:08It's just a shame that Morgana is evil.
26:11Hopefully she's only evil because she actually supports Miles because she loves him.
26:16And if she actually loved him,
26:18then if he gave up on trying to constantly take back the castle,
26:22then she would humor him.
26:24I'm relieved that there wasn't much focus on Scourge and Fiona,
26:27since they are unlikable here.
26:29The other characters were more interesting.
26:32This is not a bad idea.
26:34The one who's in the house is aεσmi padron.
26:35The idea was that it was a young man in a little bit,
26:36but as he though he was in a lot of ways,
26:37he would've never been able to go first.
26:39The one who's in the house is the more expensive and affordable,
26:40the one who's in the house is a new place.
26:41The two who's in the house is the Elmars and the one I'm in the house
26:43of the house is the one place to do on the house.
26:45So I really think that it was a good idea.
26:46And now that you guys are interested in an Lorenzo,
26:48I'm interested in the house in a little bit.
