00:00An attempted military coup in Benin has been foiled, the country's Minister of Interior said in a post on Facebook on Sunday.
00:08Earlier in the day, a group of soldiers took over state television and announced that the president had been removed and government institutions dissolved.
00:16The group, which called itself the Military Committee for Refoundation, said Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigre had been appointed president of the Military Committee.
00:25But just hours later, Alessane Seydoux said the mutiny had failed.
00:31Faced with this situation, Seydoux said the Beninese armed forces and their leadership were true to their oath and remained committed to the republic.
00:40There's been no official news about President Patrice Talon since gunshots were heard around the presidential residence.
00:48However, the signal to the state television and public radio, which was cut off, has been restored.
