Benin’s government says loyalist forces have successfully foiled a coup attempt after a small group of soldiers briefly seized state television and claimed President Patrice Talon had been overthrown. Officials say most of the army remained loyal, quickly containing the mutiny led by Lt. Col. Tigri. Talon is confirmed safe as security forces restored control of state institutions. Gunfire was reported near Camp Guézo, but authorities insist the country remained secure. The African Union condemned the attempted coup.
