00:00Some 30 people, most of them soldiers, have been jailed in Benin in connection with a failed coup attempt earlier this month, French news agency AFP is reporting.
00:12The soldiers took over state television on December 7th and announced that the government had been dissolved.
00:18But their takeover bid was thwarted by loyalists, backed by airstrikes and military assistants from Nigeria and other West African allies.
00:26The accused were jailed on Tuesday, AFP said, following a pre-trial hearing.
00:32They're charged with prison, murder and endangering state security.
00:37The rebel soldiers accused President Talon of mishandling the security situation in northern Benin and criticized cuts to health care and other public services.
00:48They also accused him of clamping down on political activities.
