00:00:30Welcome to the football show
00:00:58and PLZ Soccer's YouTube channel
00:01:00sponsored by Camberon Commercials,
00:01:03the ideal company to source your new
00:01:04and quality used commercial vehicles.
00:01:07I'm delighted to have our new sponsors on board.
00:01:10And in the studio today,
00:01:11we've got Alan Ruff and Alec Ray
00:01:13with us to look back over
00:01:15the Scottish Premiership fixtures
00:01:16over Saturday and Sunday.
00:01:19So much to talk about.
00:01:20And of course, we are delighted
00:01:21that throughout the whole season,
00:01:23our main charity sponsor
00:01:25is Maggie's Cancer Care.
00:01:28And if you go to www.maggies.org,
00:01:32you will be able to get all the support you need
00:01:37if you know of anyone who's affected by cancer.
00:01:40They give tremendous support
00:01:42to anyone affected by cancer.
00:01:44So www.maggies.org
00:01:47and you can get all the information you need.
00:01:50So with Ruff and Alec Ray here with me,
00:01:53there's lots to talk about.
00:01:54Hamden sells the naming rights.
00:01:55There's a Scottish Cup fourth round draw,
00:01:57which Patrick Thistle are in.
00:02:00Wilford Nonsi still not in the job at Celtic.
00:02:02Martin O'Neill's in place for the match against Dundee.
00:02:05Danny Rule is ready to wield the axe at Rangers
00:02:08as they again are firing blanks against Falkirk.
00:02:12Robinson, that's Stevie,
00:02:13is putting cup final places at risk
00:02:15for St Mirren players who are not delivering
00:02:17as they sit perilously close to the bottom of the table.
00:02:21And Billy Gilmore's going to get surgery.
00:02:23There's no time limit on his return at Napoli,
00:02:27but it's certainly a worry
00:02:28as everybody wants to try and stay fit
00:02:31heading up to the World Cup in the summer.
00:02:34So with that in mind,
00:02:36before we get to the weekend's results
00:02:38from Saturday and Sunday, Ruffey,
00:02:40the SFA have signed a multi-million pound
00:02:43long-term partnership with Bartley's Bank
00:02:46and it'll become Bartley's Hamden.
00:02:48That's the new name.
00:02:49It's the first of its kind,
00:02:52this historic deal.
00:02:53I think it's a great bit of business
00:02:55and they'll also partner
00:02:57with the Men's and Women's Scottish Cup.
00:02:59At the moment,
00:03:00that's sponsored by Scottish Gas
00:03:01and they're going to become the main sponsor
00:03:04to the next-gen girls' performance programme as well.
00:03:07That's fantastic.
00:03:08Yeah, obviously when the SFA get the money,
00:03:10you would expect it would filter down to everybody,
00:03:13all the boys and the girls
00:03:15and whatever under 17, 16,
00:03:18just to promote the game.
00:03:19I saw they were very active
00:03:21in trying to get the Women's World Cup final,
00:03:23which will generate a lot of money again
00:03:26and be good for women's football.
00:03:28So no, I think it's a good investment.
00:03:30I think the things have moved on
00:03:31now if anybody wants to call it Hamden,
00:03:34they can call it Hamden.
00:03:35You know, but certainly
00:03:36with that amount of money they're getting,
00:03:38they couldn't say no.
00:03:39Yeah, absolutely.
00:03:40I mean, Ruffy,
00:03:41we'd sell the naming rights to the studio
00:03:43if we could get away with it, wouldn't we?
00:03:45Anyone.
00:03:45I'd sell the naming rights to me.
00:03:48Absolutely.
00:03:50It's a stonewall certainty.
00:03:51Listen, anything that brings money into the game
00:03:53at grassroots level is brilliant.
00:03:55Yeah, without doubt.
00:03:56I think it's encouraging.
00:03:57They're obviously going to invest in
00:03:58the men's and women's,
00:03:59you were saying as well,
00:04:00which is the way forward.
00:04:03I don't really see any,
00:04:04I know there'll be people out there going,
00:04:06oh, I don't like that,
00:04:07but it's a business they're trying to run
00:04:08and money has been at a premium
00:04:10due to not getting to major tournaments
00:04:12in recent years.
00:04:14So obviously it got to the Euros the last couple
00:04:16and World Cup,
00:04:18which will generate more funds
00:04:19and then that filters down through the system
00:04:21and I think it's really positive.
00:04:24Yeah, absolutely.
00:04:25For not only the men,
00:04:26but the women as well,
00:04:28boys and girls,
00:04:29which is fantastic.
00:04:30Scottish Cup fourth round draw
00:04:32was made at the weekend.
00:04:33Aberdeen against Wraith Rovers.
00:04:35Airdre-Oriens will play Arbroath.
00:04:37Auchinleck-Talbott have a home tie
00:04:38against Celtic.
00:04:39Cameland Juniors against Elgin City.
00:04:42Dundee United against Airdre United.
00:04:44Dunfermline at home to Hibbs.
00:04:45It's a return to Easter Road
00:04:47for Neil Lennon,
00:04:48a former manager there.
00:04:49Hearts will play Falkirk.
00:04:50That's a toughie.
00:04:52Kelty Hearts against Cove Rangers.
00:04:53Comarnock-Dundee.
00:04:55Livingston will take on St Mirren.
00:04:57Motherwell-Ross County.
00:04:58Partick Thistle.
00:04:59These two will be looking on
00:05:01as they are at home against Montrose.
00:05:03Rangers take on Annen Athletic.
00:05:05Spartans against Trinend
00:05:06or Inverness Cali Thistle.
00:05:08Stenhouse-Muir will take on Greenock-Morton
00:05:10and it's Strenraer against Queen's Park.
00:05:13That's a good draw for you?
00:05:14Yeah, just a home draw
00:05:15Peter and
00:05:16we've got a couple of away games
00:05:18currently
00:05:18so it'll be great to get back
00:05:20to
00:05:21Firhill
00:05:22but listen,
00:05:22I think at any stage
00:05:23you just want a home draw
00:05:24and
00:05:25we'll be respectful
00:05:27to the opponents
00:05:28and we'll try our utmost
00:05:29to get through that
00:05:29because
00:05:30the rewards
00:05:31that it generates
00:05:31going through
00:05:32and there's obviously
00:05:33a couple of ties
00:05:34that potentially
00:05:35if you can get through this one
00:05:37may well be
00:05:38there'll be a couple of
00:05:39smaller teams
00:05:40still remaining
00:05:40in the next round
00:05:41so I think
00:05:42Auchinleck
00:05:43is the big
00:05:44talking point for that draw
00:05:45Peter, when it come through
00:05:46you've just seen their reaction
00:05:48it was tremendous.
00:05:48Yeah, the one thing I would say
00:05:50that a lot of people
00:05:51are aware of
00:05:52and certainly Auchinleck
00:05:53will be aware of it
00:05:54is the revenue
00:05:54that can be generated
00:05:55as you found out
00:05:58you know
00:05:58Thistle certainly
00:05:59found out last season
00:06:00Ruffy
00:06:01what a real bulge
00:06:03to the coffers
00:06:04it can set you up
00:06:05Yeah, it certainly can
00:06:06and the first thing
00:06:06is when you get a tie
00:06:07like that
00:06:08you think of it
00:06:08people like Alec
00:06:10go another player
00:06:11and you hope
00:06:13that the club
00:06:13will run properly
00:06:14that you can delve into
00:06:15maybe get one or two in
00:06:16for the final run
00:06:18into the season
00:06:19so that's the kind
00:06:20of thing it is
00:06:21but I think
00:06:22Auchinleck would have
00:06:23been happier
00:06:23if it had been at Celtic
00:06:25because obviously
00:06:26there would be more revenue
00:06:26it used to be the case
00:06:28that
00:06:28You could switch it
00:06:29Yeah, but you had to
00:06:30switch it under
00:06:31you didn't have
00:06:33the proper facility
00:06:34the police would say
00:06:36oh no you can't have
00:06:378 or 9 thousand people
00:06:39coming in here
00:06:39it's safety
00:06:40but I think now
00:06:42a lot of clubs
00:06:42are now saying
00:06:43no, no we've got
00:06:44a home tie
00:06:44let's keep with
00:06:46our own supporters
00:06:47and let them enjoy
00:06:47the day out
00:06:48and the players obviously
00:06:49so it will be
00:06:50an eye opener
00:06:51for the Celtic boys
00:06:52You'll have to look at
00:06:53Darville against Aberdeen
00:06:54to remember what
00:06:55what it can do for you
00:06:55No, absolutely
00:06:56and again
00:06:58middle of January
00:06:59you think to yourself
00:07:00the weather could be
00:07:01poor and all that
00:07:02the pitch I wouldn't
00:07:02imagine would be
00:07:03great down there
00:07:03is it AstroTurf
00:07:05is it?
00:07:05No
00:07:05No, no, right
00:07:06okay so that covers
00:07:07that
00:07:07but I just think
00:07:09I think this is what
00:07:11cup football is all
00:07:12about
00:07:12you know you've got
00:07:13the Scottish champions
00:07:13against these guys
00:07:15and it would be a
00:07:16dream come true
00:07:17because a lot of
00:07:17these guys have
00:07:18never played at the
00:07:18level
00:07:18it's interesting
00:07:19we played Celtic
00:07:19obviously in the
00:07:20League Cup this year
00:07:21and even at our
00:07:22level some of the
00:07:23boys are absolutely
00:07:24made up because
00:07:24they're obviously
00:07:25playing against some
00:07:25of the guys that
00:07:26they support and so
00:07:28forth but
00:07:28when it kicks off
00:07:31it's a real eye
00:07:32opener because you
00:07:32then realise you're
00:07:33up against top
00:07:34class players
00:07:35Any tasty ones
00:07:36that you remember
00:07:37that you thought
00:07:37of or you've been
00:07:38knocked out of one
00:07:39north or south of
00:07:40the border?
00:07:41The one was
00:07:42Tranmere
00:07:43they got a man
00:07:45sent off
00:07:45and as he was
00:07:46walking off
00:07:47they substituted
00:07:47him and brought
00:07:48the sub on
00:07:49so they remained
00:07:4911 for the last
00:07:5015 minutes
00:07:51It's a true story
00:07:53So they get
00:07:54the boys like
00:07:54so they get
00:07:55sub sub
00:07:56put the board up
00:07:57and it was the
00:07:57guy who was
00:07:58going on
00:07:59It was a brilliant
00:08:00move and he
00:08:00ended up beating
00:08:01his 1-0
00:08:01Tranmere
00:08:01and that was
00:08:02that good
00:08:02Sunland team
00:08:03they were in
00:08:04the championship
00:08:04at that time
00:08:05we were on
00:08:05the top flight
00:08:06I thought it's
00:08:06sneaky because we
00:08:07thought we were
00:08:07going to get out
00:08:08because of the
00:08:09rules and things
00:08:10I went nah
00:08:10unlucky mate
00:08:11They didn't get
00:08:12knocked out?
00:08:13No, it remained
00:08:13No, not even
00:08:14through
00:08:14That's unbelievable
00:08:16That wouldn't
00:08:17happen nowadays
00:08:17Anyway, let's
00:08:19look back at
00:08:20the weekend
00:08:21Of course, the
00:08:22main thing that
00:08:22came out of the
00:08:23match at Easter
00:08:24Road
00:08:24I was watching
00:08:24Hibs against
00:08:25Celtic and
00:08:26obviously Martin
00:08:27O'Neill came
00:08:27into the press
00:08:28conference afterwards
00:08:30to reveal to
00:08:30everybody he's
00:08:31staying on
00:08:32Yeah, it was a
00:08:34wee bit strange
00:08:34I must admit
00:08:35I had a joke
00:08:37up there with
00:08:38people about
00:08:39saying about
00:08:39whatever is
00:08:41happening to the
00:08:42paperwork I have
00:08:42no idea
00:08:43maybe I'm
00:08:43hiding it
00:08:44but so
00:08:46but yeah
00:08:48just and
00:08:49if it's
00:08:50you must be
00:08:52bored asking
00:08:54me about the
00:08:55question so it
00:08:56was a strange
00:08:56thing because I
00:08:57only found out
00:08:58yesterday I
00:08:59thought that
00:08:59genuinely thought
00:09:00this was my
00:09:00last game
00:09:01paperwork, work
00:09:05permits, getting
00:09:06it all, crossing
00:09:08the T's, dotting
00:09:09the I's, it's
00:09:10dragging on isn't
00:09:11it?
00:09:11Yeah, listen
00:09:12there's obviously
00:09:12a few formalities
00:09:13but I think the
00:09:14deal will get
00:09:14done, I expect
00:09:17that to be in the
00:09:17next couple of
00:09:18days but I have
00:09:18to say though the
00:09:19job that he's
00:09:19done since he
00:09:20came in, him and
00:09:21Sean Maloney has
00:09:21been absolutely
00:09:22tremendous because
00:09:23there's some tricky
00:09:24fixtures in there
00:09:25and obviously away in
00:09:26Europe last week as
00:09:27well to Feyenoord
00:09:28and then Hibbs is
00:09:29not an easy place
00:09:30to go also but
00:09:31he's navigated it
00:09:32excellently and if
00:09:33he can get the
00:09:34result on Wednesday
00:09:35night and pass the
00:09:35baton on then you
00:09:37look back and him
00:09:38his, if it could get
00:09:39any more higher, you
00:09:41know, his status at
00:09:42the club but the
00:09:43fans will be grateful
00:09:44for the job he's
00:09:45currently doing.
00:09:46Six wins out of
00:09:46seven Ruffy, five
00:09:47wins out of five in
00:09:49the league and
00:09:50whatever he's done,
00:09:52you know, man
00:09:52management, the lot
00:09:53which is certainly
00:09:54something that I
00:09:55asked Callum
00:09:55McGregor afterwards
00:09:56just those little
00:09:58touches and of
00:09:59course the stature
00:09:59of the man is
00:10:01there for all to
00:10:02see, especially in
00:10:02the dressing room.
00:10:03Yeah, I've said
00:10:04that all my career,
00:10:05you know, when you're
00:10:06sitting in a dressing
00:10:06room and somebody
00:10:08like that comes
00:10:08through the dressing
00:10:09room door,
00:10:10everybody perks up,
00:10:11you know, and you
00:10:12listen to every word
00:10:12he's saying, you
00:10:14know, and he seems
00:10:14to be good at the
00:10:15PR side of it,
00:10:16which when the
00:10:17teams, the players
00:10:18aren't playing
00:10:19particularly well,
00:10:19sometimes that kind
00:10:20of approach just
00:10:21lifts everybody, you
00:10:22know, but obviously
00:10:23the wins on the
00:10:24park matter to
00:10:26everybody, and it
00:10:27just remains to be
00:10:28seen, does that put
00:10:28a wee bit of
00:10:29pressure on the
00:10:29new boy with the
00:10:31run that he's had
00:10:31coming in?
00:10:33Yeah, Hearts, Roma
00:10:33and the Premier
00:10:35Sports Cup final,
00:10:36that's pressure.
00:10:37You know, the
00:10:38run that Martin's
00:10:39had, you know,
00:10:39with the victory
00:10:40he's had, you
00:10:41know, it'll come
00:10:42in, obviously I'm
00:10:42not going to judge
00:10:43him in the three
00:10:44games, but he would
00:10:45like to think he's
00:10:46going to get some
00:10:47wins in there.
00:10:47Well, there is
00:10:48Scottish football, and
00:10:49if we're to go
00:10:50along the way that
00:10:51Scottish football is
00:10:51going at the moment,
00:10:52Alec, if he loses
00:10:53to Hearts, then
00:10:54Roma, and the
00:10:55Premier Sports
00:10:55Cup final, LB, sack
00:10:57the manager, sack
00:10:58the board.
00:11:00I have to say
00:11:01though, on this, he's
00:11:03obviously coming into
00:11:03a group of players
00:11:04that are full of
00:11:05confidence, because
00:11:06Martin's obviously
00:11:06got them on the
00:11:07front foot, they're
00:11:08scoring goals, and
00:11:10no, listen, but the
00:11:11thing is, we know how
00:11:12it works, Peter, you
00:11:13know, I've won such a
00:11:14long time in football,
00:11:15but I would be really
00:11:17embracing that, if I
00:11:17was him coming into
00:11:18that kind of
00:11:19environment, you know,
00:11:19you can make a mark
00:11:21with the team that's
00:11:22been leading the
00:11:23championship so far,
00:11:25and then you're going
00:11:25into a European game
00:11:26which is, you could
00:11:28take them home, 10
00:11:29points could be
00:11:29enough, and then also
00:11:30then you've got a
00:11:31cup final against
00:11:32St Mirren, who are
00:11:32not flying at the
00:11:33moment, so he could
00:11:35come in, hit the
00:11:35ground running, and
00:11:36people are going
00:11:37pfft, but it'll be
00:11:38judged over a longer
00:11:39period, I imagine.
00:11:40Yeah, absolutely, and
00:11:41he'll obviously want
00:11:41to bring in his own
00:11:42players as well.
00:11:43Ruffy, no surprise, I
00:11:44mean, you know, I
00:11:45think the Celtic fans
00:11:46think he can walk on
00:11:47water, but, you know,
00:11:49over and above that,
00:11:51you know, you know
00:11:52what Martin's like,
00:11:53you know, I was at
00:11:54the John Hartson
00:11:55sporting lunch on
00:11:56Friday, wasn't here
00:11:58with you, and, you
00:12:00know, myself and
00:12:01Paul Merson had a
00:12:02great day, Merson
00:12:03had some fantastic
00:12:04stories, and Paul
00:12:07and myself worked
00:12:07really, really hard to
00:12:08entertain the
00:12:09audience, and then
00:12:10Martin came in with
00:12:10two minutes to go and
00:12:11get a standing
00:12:12ovation.
00:12:13I mean, that's what
00:12:14it's all about,
00:12:15isn't it?
00:12:15He has that timing,
00:12:17yeah, he has that,
00:12:18he's just got that
00:12:20about him, isn't it,
00:12:21when you see him,
00:12:22you know, you think
00:12:23you're waiting on him
00:12:24actually saying
00:12:24something, because
00:12:26you know he's going
00:12:26to say something
00:12:27that's going to
00:12:27twig everybody and
00:12:28get you excited,
00:12:29and I mean, you'll
00:12:31know from asking
00:12:31from interviewing,
00:12:32you know.
00:12:33You know what it's
00:12:33like, it's like Tom
00:12:34and Jerry when we're
00:12:34up on the stage,
00:12:36because they agreed
00:12:36to come up, you
00:12:37know, and I thought
00:12:37right away, here we
00:12:38go, ding dong, you
00:12:39know, it was like
00:12:40just a frying pan,
00:12:41and then I hooked
00:12:41him one, you know,
00:12:42and everybody's, and
00:12:43you can hear the
00:12:44audience going,
00:12:45and I'm thinking,
00:12:46he's getting
00:12:47leathered as well,
00:12:48you know, and by
00:12:48the way he gives it
00:12:49as good as he gets
00:12:50off, for God's sake.
00:12:51I wouldn't expect
00:12:52anything else.
00:12:52No, absolutely, and
00:12:53by the way, Mercer's
00:12:54got some great stories,
00:12:55and you can relate to
00:12:56them, because obviously
00:12:57you do a lot of work
00:12:57with your Second
00:12:58Chance project.
00:13:00Paul's seven years
00:13:01clean, you know, he
00:13:02was very open about
00:13:03his addiction with
00:13:04alcohol, drugs, of
00:13:07course gambling, and
00:13:10you know, I just
00:13:12thought his stories
00:13:13were laced with, you
00:13:15know, a serious
00:13:16topic, but with
00:13:17humour as well.
00:13:18Yeah, well the
00:13:18thing is, you have to
00:13:19look back and laugh
00:13:20at it, because if you
00:13:21don't, you would cry,
00:13:21because the amount of
00:13:22money they had lost
00:13:23over the years, I
00:13:26have to say, Paul
00:13:26Mercer was pivotal to
00:13:28myself, having Tony
00:13:29Adams coming out and
00:13:30going, you know, need
00:13:31help, that was, that's
00:13:33the reason why I got
00:13:33back, I got on the
00:13:35wagon as well, so, you
00:13:36know, they guys were
00:13:37kind of pioneers at
00:13:37their time, even though
00:13:38they didn't know that,
00:13:39but I've been in
00:13:40Mercer's company, but in
00:13:41terms of a football
00:13:42player, Paul Mercer was
00:13:43absolutely top draw.
00:13:44Oh, I mean, so
00:13:45talented, because I
00:13:47don't often go, well
00:13:49what a player he was,
00:13:49because he could
00:13:50compete, what a
00:13:52talented boy he was,
00:13:53and that's in spite of
00:13:55all his off the field
00:13:55stuff.
00:13:56Yeah, it was actually a
00:13:57joy to chat with, as
00:13:59was John Hartsman, who
00:13:59does a brilliant job,
00:14:01Ruffy, to raise well,
00:14:03well in excess of a
00:14:04million pounds now for
00:14:06so many charities, handed
00:14:07over a cheque to the
00:14:08Beetson and the
00:14:09Glasgow Children's
00:14:10Hospice as well, which
00:14:11is brilliant.
00:14:11Yeah, it's great, I
00:14:12mean, obviously the
00:14:12golf days and the
00:14:13dinners and everything
00:14:14and the options, obviously
00:14:15you're a large part of
00:14:16that, raising the money
00:14:18that they get eventually,
00:14:19but it is an enormous
00:14:20amount of money they
00:14:21hand over.
00:14:22You do squeeze quite a
00:14:23lot of people, I've got
00:14:24to say.
00:14:26Yeah, yeah, like a
00:14:26noise up.
00:14:27Do you know why, I mean,
00:14:29I didn't do the auction
00:14:30at this one, I usually do
00:14:31the auction, which is kind
00:14:32of, I would say, my
00:14:33forte, and the reason why
00:14:34I do the auction, Alec, is
00:14:36because I had, and you're
00:14:39going to, you over
00:14:40appreciate this, because
00:14:41myself and my mates used
00:14:43to go to tables and we
00:14:44were skint when we were
00:14:45young.
00:14:46You know, we'd go to
00:14:47these dinners and then
00:14:47the multi-millionaires who
00:14:49live in Scotland, you
00:14:49know who they are, they
00:14:51would bid for all the
00:14:52auction items and we had
00:14:52to sit there and grin and
00:14:54bear it because we had
00:14:55two hapenies to rub
00:14:56together, we were just
00:14:57trying to get enough
00:14:58money so we could go to
00:14:59the Cotton Club or the
00:15:00Toledo Junction on a
00:15:02Monday night.
00:15:03So we're sitting there
00:15:04thinking, oh, for God's
00:15:05sake, you know, they're
00:15:06bidding 10s, 20,000s
00:15:07or whatever, so when
00:15:08eventually they asked me
00:15:10to do the auctions, I
00:15:11thought, well, I've got
00:15:13to turn this and this
00:15:13thing, so I just decided
00:15:14to absolutely scattergun
00:15:16everybody who was
00:15:18bidding and then it just
00:15:19turned into something a
00:15:20wee bit different,
00:15:21Raffy.
00:15:21Yeah, we had a great
00:15:22night, we were at a
00:15:23lunch, no, a lunch we
00:15:24were at and Peter was
00:15:25doing the auction and I
00:15:27had a table and Cam
00:15:29McManus was at it, right,
00:15:30and it came to the
00:15:31raffle, of course, when
00:15:32people buy raffle
00:15:33tickets, you spread all
00:15:35the raffle tickets at the
00:15:36table, so you know, so
00:15:38the bull Peter comes up
00:15:39and obviously, I've
00:15:40walked past it, he's
00:15:41walked back, and he's
00:15:43clocked Tam's raffle
00:15:44ticket, I can't even
00:15:46remember what the prize
00:15:47was, anyway, he goes,
00:15:49yellow, six, four, the
00:15:51bull, Tam, oh, you
00:15:53had a dancer, he let
00:15:54him walk all the way
00:15:55up, all the way up.
00:15:58Oh, well, it's yellow, six,
00:16:00four, you were close, it's
00:16:01yellow, two, five, two.
00:16:03I'm turned around all the
00:16:04way back, lost the prize
00:16:06a lot, raging, hated me
00:16:08for it.
00:16:09But, yeah, great, well
00:16:10done to John Hartson and
00:16:11everybody there, and of
00:16:12course, as you know,
00:16:14Raffy, with these things,
00:16:15you get filmed, people
00:16:16film it, you know, and
00:16:17then they obviously edit
00:16:18it down, you know, and I
00:16:21think out there at the
00:16:21moment is me and Martin,
00:16:23you know, having a go at
00:16:24each other, but it's still
00:16:25good for you.
00:16:25Oh, look out for that.
00:16:27Yeah, absolutely.
00:16:29It's good to support
00:16:29John's charity.
00:16:31Yeah, absolutely.
00:16:33Listen, he's staying on,
00:16:35so suddenly they're
00:16:36against Hibbs, and I
00:16:38don't know about you,
00:16:39Raffy, but see your
00:16:40goalkeeping fraternity,
00:16:41honestly, they're doing
00:16:42my head in, because he
00:16:44sold the jerseys.
00:16:46Yeah, I think he did,
00:16:47but he's been having a
00:16:48good season.
00:16:49He's one of the better
00:16:50ones.
00:16:50Yeah, he has, but I
00:16:51mean...
00:16:52Talk about yesterday,
00:16:52Raffy.
00:16:53The boy, no, but the
00:16:54boy...
00:16:54I mean, he's not
00:16:56aboutery, isn't he?
00:16:57No, but the boy...
00:16:58Don't you, but what
00:16:59about this?
00:16:59No, what about that?
00:17:00You cannae take any
00:17:01account the boy's
00:17:02slipping.
00:17:03Eh?
00:17:04The boy slipped.
00:17:05He's got Hitati up
00:17:06his back.
00:17:07Just launch it, man.
00:17:08By the way...
00:17:10Would you have done it
00:17:10in your day?
00:17:10Eh?
00:17:11Would you have
00:17:11given somebody that
00:17:12ball there?
00:17:12No, none in my
00:17:13centre-house would have
00:17:14took that ball in my day.
00:17:15You kid, no.
00:17:16Oh, no, don't get
00:17:17to me, I don't want it.
00:17:17By the way, what about
00:17:18the boy Ward at
00:17:18Motherwell when they had
00:17:19Celtic on toast?
00:17:20Oh, yeah, he's got a
00:17:21launch start.
00:17:22Launch it.
00:17:23There's no difference
00:17:23between that and that
00:17:24one.
00:17:24By the way, when would
00:17:25you play a ball from
00:17:27your own heart, from
00:17:28your own box to the
00:17:30edge of the D with
00:17:32people closing you
00:17:33down?
00:17:33No chance.
00:17:34It's mental.
00:17:35I know, but I mean,
00:17:36I think it wouldn't
00:17:38have happened if the
00:17:38boy had slipped.
00:17:40If the boy hadn't
00:17:40slept, he'd have just
00:17:41passed it back to
00:17:42him, and then he
00:17:43could have housed it
00:17:43up the park.
00:17:44I thought it was
00:17:44outside the line.
00:17:45I thought it was not
00:17:46the right time to do
00:17:47it.
00:17:47Anyway, it was a bad
00:17:48mistake.
00:17:48It's costly, and the
00:17:50thing is, that's when
00:17:51you're kind of rocked
00:17:52at that point, and
00:17:52then within a minute
00:17:53or so, and then the
00:17:54second one goes in.
00:17:54He scored another
00:17:55one.
00:17:55They've switched off
00:17:56completely.
00:17:57Up until that
00:17:58point, I don't know
00:17:58how they were doing
00:17:58well, Hibbs.
00:17:59I thought they were
00:18:00a good opening.
00:18:01And by the way, as
00:18:02you well know, Alec,
00:18:03when you're playing
00:18:04against Celtic or
00:18:05Rangers, when you get
00:18:06a big chance, Martin
00:18:08Boyle, I thought it
00:18:09was a sitter.
00:18:10No, see, the thing
00:18:11is, I genuinely think
00:18:12he's actually waiting
00:18:12for the contact, as
00:18:13opposed to going for
00:18:14the ball.
00:18:14Looking for the
00:18:15penalty?
00:18:16Yeah.
00:18:16It's a good point,
00:18:17actually.
00:18:17I don't mean this
00:18:21really over the
00:18:21years, and he's
00:18:22won his team plenty
00:18:23of things, but for
00:18:25me, I think he's
00:18:26got to get good
00:18:27contact.
00:18:28Yeah.
00:18:28Now, there's two
00:18:29incidents in the
00:18:30game that I think
00:18:30are worthy of our
00:18:31thoughts, Ruffey.
00:18:33Engels is a good
00:18:34goal, it's a brave
00:18:35goal, but he took
00:18:35a bit to the face.
00:18:36Should there have
00:18:37been more, should
00:18:38there have been
00:18:38repercussions after
00:18:39it, even though he
00:18:40scored the goal?
00:18:41Well, I think they
00:18:42probably got a yellow
00:18:43card, you know, I
00:18:44think after it, you
00:18:45know, if it hadn't
00:18:46went in the net, then
00:18:48you'd probably look at
00:18:49VAR.
00:18:50And then coming
00:18:51up with some kind
00:18:53of decision.
00:18:55Obviously, we're not
00:18:56privy to what that
00:18:57would have been, but
00:18:57he was brave enough
00:18:59to get in there and
00:19:00put his head in there
00:19:01and you take the
00:19:01goal and you move
00:19:02on.
00:19:02It was actually a
00:19:03very good run by
00:19:04him because he
00:19:04came a good way to
00:19:06go on the end of
00:19:07that.
00:19:07And the only thing I
00:19:09would say, because
00:19:10you're clamouring
00:19:12sometimes for a kick
00:19:13to the head.
00:19:14And I think he's
00:19:16probably leant down a
00:19:17little bit to get
00:19:18it, as opposed to,
00:19:19you know, the one
00:19:20you're coming up
00:19:20and you're catching
00:19:21him when he's
00:19:21upright.
00:19:22So I need defence, I
00:19:23think, you know, the
00:19:24guy that's making the
00:19:25tackle.
00:19:25I think that may
00:19:26well have been, he's
00:19:27only saving grace in
00:19:28that, but if it had
00:19:28to have been a red, I
00:19:30don't think anybody
00:19:30could have complained.
00:19:31Before they got to
00:19:32the penalty, which
00:19:33we'll discuss, in
00:19:34fact, it's another
00:19:34point, I thought
00:19:36Colby Donovan was
00:19:37lucky with his tackle
00:19:39on Abita.
00:19:40I thought he was
00:19:40going.
00:19:41Well, see, the
00:19:41thing is, this is a
00:19:42bit for me, is, see
00:19:44if you talk about
00:19:44excessive, couldn't
00:19:46have hit him any
00:19:46harder.
00:19:47Yeah.
00:19:47You know, he's
00:19:47came like a train
00:19:48and absolutely
00:19:49smashed the boy
00:19:50and I had a
00:19:51discussion with a
00:19:51good pal of ours
00:19:52today about it and
00:19:53he says, no, no, I
00:19:54thought it was
00:19:54sufficient, but I
00:19:56think you were
00:19:56running the risk
00:19:57with the actual
00:19:57pace that he
00:19:58catches because
00:19:59he's clearly
00:19:59endangering on
00:20:01there.
00:20:01I was waiting for
00:20:02the referee to
00:20:03be called to the
00:20:04VAR for it.
00:20:05I thought they
00:20:06would say, you
00:20:06need to have a
00:20:07look at this.
00:20:07But he got a
00:20:08yellow.
00:20:09Yeah, no, and
00:20:09do you know the
00:20:10interesting thing
00:20:10about this?
00:20:10Because I watched
00:20:11a game in England
00:20:12afterwards, yesterday,
00:20:13and it was a
00:20:15coming together by
00:20:16the Arsenal striker
00:20:17and the goalkeeper
00:20:17that was coming
00:20:18together and I
00:20:19think it was
00:20:19Anthony Taylor who
00:20:20did throw a lot of
00:20:21cards about it and
00:20:21he actually bought
00:20:22his cell a bit of
00:20:23time, he thought
00:20:23about it, he
00:20:24assessed it, you
00:20:24can hear him
00:20:25speaking to the
00:20:25nearest official at
00:20:28the side there.
00:20:30So I thought Nick
00:20:31Walsh made his
00:20:32decision very, very
00:20:34quickly.
00:20:34I don't even think
00:20:35he bought his
00:20:35cell time to see
00:20:36because there was
00:20:37obviously people at
00:20:38the sidelines or
00:20:38it could have been
00:20:40a linesman, could
00:20:42he have bought his
00:20:42cell a bit more
00:20:43time just to try
00:20:43and assess it
00:20:44because see as
00:20:45soon as you give
00:20:45the on-field
00:20:46decision, oh
00:20:46yellow card, it's
00:20:47very difficult to
00:20:48overturn it really.
00:20:49Yeah, the other
00:20:49aspect of it which
00:20:50another talking
00:20:51point Ruffy, I
00:20:53mean I was there
00:20:53and I looked at
00:20:54it and then I
00:20:55had a look at
00:20:55the replay on
00:20:56it and I
00:20:56thought, you
00:20:57know, it's
00:20:58your bugbear
00:20:58the handball
00:20:59thing and I
00:21:00thought it was
00:21:01harsh on skills.
00:21:02Yeah, I
00:21:02thought he was
00:21:03unfortunate, you
00:21:04know there was
00:21:04two or three
00:21:05players in front
00:21:06of him went for
00:21:07it, you know
00:21:07and he's just
00:21:08put his head
00:21:09down not thinking
00:21:10it's going to
00:21:10come to him,
00:21:11somebody's going
00:21:11to get it and
00:21:12he just comes
00:21:12over somebody
00:21:13and just hits
00:21:14him in the
00:21:14hand, it's
00:21:15not deliberate,
00:21:16it's not, I
00:21:17mean his hand
00:21:17is out there, it
00:21:18does hit his
00:21:19hand, there's no
00:21:19doubt about that.
00:21:20I thought it
00:21:20was high on
00:21:21his shoulder.
00:21:21No, I thought
00:21:22it hit his
00:21:22hand and then
00:21:23it hit his
00:21:23shoulder.
00:21:24I would say
00:21:24about here.
00:21:24Scales?
00:21:25Uh-huh.
00:21:25It was roughly
00:21:26about that.
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:27But see the
00:21:28thing is though,
00:21:29if you watch
00:21:29that, I think
00:21:30the Rangers
00:21:31don't get one
00:21:31of them last
00:21:31Thursday, you
00:21:32know the boy
00:21:33goes up to
00:21:33win the
00:21:33header, it's
00:21:34coming over
00:21:34bodies and
00:21:35then it
00:21:41is about
00:21:42the intensity,
00:21:42how do you
00:21:43know if it's
00:21:43deliberate?
00:21:44So see me and
00:21:44you go up and
00:21:45your arms are
00:21:45out there and
00:21:46you go, well
00:21:46it's not
00:21:46deliberate, I'm
00:21:47getting leverage.
00:21:48So the whole
00:21:49handball thing,
00:21:50so.
00:21:50How do you
00:21:51solve it?
00:21:51I don't know,
00:21:52I've no idea.
00:21:53Well what I
00:21:54do know is you
00:21:54don't jump like
00:21:55that, you don't
00:21:56jump with your
00:21:56hands at your
00:21:57side and jump
00:21:57up the way
00:21:58Peter, so you
00:21:59jump with your
00:21:59arms up for
00:22:00leverage.
00:22:00But is there
00:22:01not a greater
00:22:01potential to get
00:22:02a higher percentage
00:22:03right if you
00:22:05say, if you
00:22:07say for example
00:22:07the ball's coming
00:22:08over, does he
00:22:09know anything
00:22:10about it?
00:22:10Is he
00:22:10intentionally
00:22:11going?
00:22:12Yeah but then
00:22:12that goes back
00:22:13to, do you
00:22:14know what I mean?
00:22:15What do you
00:22:16call it?
00:22:17Interpretation by
00:22:17the official.
00:22:18It'll change
00:22:18from week to
00:22:19week, going
00:22:19oh you meant
00:22:20that, I didn't
00:22:20mean that.
00:22:21So again it's
00:22:22subjective back
00:22:23down to the
00:22:23official.
00:22:24But I think
00:22:24it's a really
00:22:25difficult one and
00:22:26the one of the
00:22:27bugbears with me
00:22:27Peter is when it
00:22:28hits a part of
00:22:28the body or
00:22:29another player and
00:22:30then hits you
00:22:31in the arm.
00:22:31I think if it
00:22:32hits something
00:22:33before the arm
00:22:34it should never
00:22:35be a penalty.
00:22:36I like this one
00:22:36from Dublin who
00:22:37says the handball
00:22:38rule is a head
00:22:39melt.
00:22:39You're absolutely
00:22:40right.
00:22:41It does us in
00:22:41every week.
00:22:42And by the way
00:22:43everybody, every
00:22:44pundit, every
00:22:45journalist, everybody
00:22:46has got their
00:22:46thoughts on it.
00:22:47It doesn't mean
00:22:47to say that we
00:22:49are the light, the
00:22:51way and the
00:22:51truth on this.
00:22:52It's all subjective
00:22:53and again everybody
00:22:54has got their
00:22:54thoughts on it and
00:22:55thank you to so
00:22:56many of you that
00:22:58actually are
00:22:59offering your own
00:23:01tuppence worth on
00:23:01it because that's
00:23:02the joy of
00:23:02football.
00:23:03It can be
00:23:04frustrating for some
00:23:05managers, not only
00:23:06frustrating but it
00:23:07costs them points.
00:23:08in certain games
00:23:09but the one
00:23:10aspect of all
00:23:12these decisions
00:23:13when Hibs go
00:23:142-0 down, David
00:23:16Gray, the Hibs
00:23:17boss, knows
00:23:18there's just a
00:23:18mountain to
00:23:19climb.
00:23:19I think you're
00:23:21always angry when
00:23:21you lose goals but
00:23:22I think for the
00:23:23way we want to
00:23:24play and what we're
00:23:26good at doing, I
00:23:27don't think it was a
00:23:27terrible decision or
00:23:28loses his foot and
00:23:30it's a slip and we
00:23:31obviously gift Celtic a
00:23:33goal because that's
00:23:33what it was, it was a
00:23:34gift but it's not
00:23:34through them doing
00:23:36something that they're
00:23:37not being asked to
00:23:37do.
00:23:38I take responsibility
00:23:38for that as well
00:23:39because of how we
00:23:40play.
00:23:42Frustration probably
00:23:42comes with that.
00:23:43then you give Celtic
00:23:44a two-goal start
00:23:44which was in a real
00:23:46quick succession
00:23:47after a real
00:23:49positive start in my
00:23:50opinion.
00:23:50I thought we started
00:23:50the game really well
00:23:51for what I asked the
00:23:52players to do pre-match
00:23:54about being aggressive,
00:23:55being on the front
00:23:56foot.
00:23:56I certainly seen that,
00:23:57created the best
00:23:57chance of the game.
00:24:00The lesson there, you
00:24:00probably need to take
00:24:01the chances.
00:24:02They don't come as
00:24:02often, especially
00:24:03against teams like
00:24:04Celtic that you need
00:24:05to make sure you
00:24:05take them.
00:24:05Yeah, absolutely
00:24:08caught out there.
00:24:09The key issue here
00:24:11now, Ruffy, is from
00:24:12being nine points
00:24:13behind with Martin
00:24:14and Neil in charge,
00:24:15they're now two points
00:24:16off the top of the
00:24:17table, Celtic.
00:24:18They've closed down
00:24:18Hearts and they've
00:24:19got a game in hand
00:24:20and lo and behold
00:24:21after Dundee, they've
00:24:22got Hearts coming as
00:24:23well.
00:24:24Yeah, and you can tell
00:24:25him in his interviews
00:24:26he's enjoying every
00:24:27minute of obviously
00:24:28winning.
00:24:28He's been in the game
00:24:30long enough to know
00:24:31what it means to the
00:24:31supporters.
00:24:32I know the new
00:24:34manager's coming in
00:24:35but I think he'd
00:24:36have fancied the
00:24:37cup final.
00:24:38Martin in the
00:24:39O.I.
00:24:39I think Martin
00:24:41would have loved
00:24:42to have been there.
00:24:42He'd love to have
00:24:43just one more cup
00:24:45final, one more
00:24:45cup and then
00:24:46that's it.
00:24:47But it's not
00:24:48going to happen
00:24:48unless they make
00:24:49an appointment
00:24:50that they say
00:24:51right, you've done
00:24:51so particularly
00:24:52well, cup final
00:24:53day, I want you
00:24:54to go out with
00:24:55the team.
00:24:55I don't think
00:24:56no day that much.
00:24:56Martin's already
00:24:57said that.
00:24:58He said when a
00:24:59new manager comes
00:24:59in, if I was the
00:25:00manager, I wouldn't
00:25:01want anybody hanging
00:25:02about.
00:25:02And I don't even
00:25:03think you can hang
00:25:03about for any
00:25:04kind of role,
00:25:06Alec, because then
00:25:07you're hanging about
00:25:08and if it doesn't
00:25:09go according to
00:25:10plan, you're just
00:25:11hovering in the
00:25:12background, aren't
00:25:13you?
00:25:13You're an old
00:25:14cynic.
00:25:15Oh yeah, but you
00:25:15can't even.
00:25:16And by the way,
00:25:17I'm looking at him
00:25:18and the first time
00:25:20around when he was
00:25:21the manager in the
00:25:22early 2000s, my
00:25:23God almighty, I
00:25:23fought like cat and
00:25:25dog with him.
00:25:25I mean, he
00:25:25absolutely hated me.
00:25:27Time is a great
00:25:28healer.
00:25:28Of course, yeah.
00:25:28But the point is, I
00:25:32think he's done a
00:25:33brilliant job, I
00:25:34think he deserves
00:25:34tremendous credit, but
00:25:36you cannot hang
00:25:37about in the
00:25:37background.
00:25:38I just don't see a
00:25:39role for him.
00:25:40I think he'll go
00:25:40on, he's maybe
00:25:41hinted that if
00:25:44somebody came
00:25:45calling and says
00:25:45could you do a
00:25:46similar job for
00:25:47us or could you
00:25:47take a contract
00:25:48and you might
00:25:48bite, he didn't
00:25:49rule that out in
00:25:50the press conference
00:25:51yesterday, but the
00:25:51one thing I would
00:25:52say is, and I'm
00:25:55not trying to just
00:25:56throw this up to be
00:25:58scurrilous in the
00:25:58whole situation, but
00:25:59the Eddie Howe
00:26:00thing looked as if
00:26:01it was done and
00:26:01dusted and it died
00:26:02in its back end.
00:26:04Some Celtic fans
00:26:05would like to see
00:26:06Martin be the
00:26:07manager.
00:26:07I think because of
00:26:09the job that he's
00:26:09actually done over
00:26:11the last few weeks
00:26:12would warrant that
00:26:13Peter, because they
00:26:14see progress, they
00:26:15see a team winning,
00:26:16there seems to be a
00:26:17kind of united front
00:26:19on the pitch.
00:26:20You know, it
00:26:21hasn't been
00:26:22sparkling at times
00:26:23as well, but
00:26:23they've managed to
00:26:23get wins.
00:26:25But listen, you're
00:26:27absolutely right, I
00:26:27don't expect him
00:26:28to be about too
00:26:28much.
00:26:29Do you know what
00:26:29I'd really like to
00:26:29see as well, if it's
00:26:31possible, that Martin
00:26:32attends the final and
00:26:33he gets that
00:26:34recognition for the
00:26:35punters and things
00:26:35because he's part in
00:26:37recent weeks.
00:26:38I think that would be
00:26:39a potential, but it's
00:26:41amazing, isn't it,
00:26:41because you think to
00:26:42yourself, I'm out the
00:26:43game, I've had enough.
00:26:45I've done these media
00:26:45stuff, he's a great
00:26:46after-dinner speaker,
00:26:47TV work, and then all
00:26:49of a sudden you get
00:26:50asked to come back in
00:26:51and then the juices
00:26:51start flowing and you
00:26:52think, I might have a
00:26:53wee look at that
00:26:54somewhere else.
00:26:54Yeah, absolutely.
00:26:55And by the way, he
00:26:56doesn't jump up and
00:26:57down as much, but he
00:26:59had a few blasts and I
00:27:01could see him giving
00:27:02the hairdryer treatment
00:27:03to a few people, you
00:27:04know.
00:27:05So he's still got that
00:27:06fire in his belly.
00:27:07But, only time will tell,
00:27:10Wilfred Nonsi should be
00:27:12in, paperwork all
00:27:13completed, after Martin
00:27:14gets, I think, a fitting
00:27:16swan song in front of the
00:27:17Celtic fans against a
00:27:19Dundee.
00:27:19So we're going to talk
00:27:20about Dundee because,
00:27:21you know, we're always
00:27:22on about managers, just
00:27:23give them time, give them
00:27:24a chance to bed in and get
00:27:26their own players and we'll
00:27:28talk about Dundee's
00:27:28performance against St Mirren
00:27:30who are on the flip side
00:27:31of that.
00:27:32Rangers nil, Falkirk nil and,
00:27:34and, again, I have to say,
00:27:37Ruffy, Falkirk are no
00:27:38mugs.
00:27:39I reckon even with 14
00:27:40games played and the
00:27:41points they've got, which
00:27:42is 20, suddenly, I said
00:27:45to you last week that 37
00:27:46will maybe get you into a
00:27:48playoff place.
00:27:50But anything above that,
00:27:5238, 40 points, and with
00:27:54the remaining games, I don't
00:27:55see Falkirk being dragged
00:27:56down that far.
00:27:57No, well, I'm present for
00:27:59him.
00:27:59You know, you would agree
00:28:00with you there, you know,
00:28:01but you're looking at this
00:28:02league and there's so
00:28:04many teams on a, you know,
00:28:06a one and seven and a
00:28:07no one and an eight and
00:28:08you're sitting there
00:28:08saying, could this happen
00:28:09to Falkirk?
00:28:10At this moment, I can't
00:28:11see it happening, but
00:28:12there's always a chance
00:28:13it could because other
00:28:14teams will obviously pick
00:28:15themselves up.
00:28:16But on the evidence of
00:28:17the weekend, they dug in,
00:28:19you know, I thought they
00:28:20were fought.
00:28:20I thought Rangers played
00:28:21okay.
00:28:23They weren't bad.
00:28:23They created chances.
00:28:25There was chances.
00:28:26I think Rangers are just
00:28:27looking for a spark, a
00:28:28goal, somebody to do
00:28:29something a wee bit
00:28:30special and at this
00:28:32moment in time, there's
00:28:32nobody coming up with
00:28:33that goal and then you
00:28:34can feel the tension and
00:28:36the crowd and it's going
00:28:38on in the park and some
00:28:39of the players.
00:28:40I just think some of the
00:28:40players have come to
00:28:41Rangers not expecting
00:28:44what you're supposed to
00:28:45do on a Saturday.
00:28:46I just think some of the
00:28:47players have come to
00:28:48Rangers not good enough
00:28:49to wear the jersey.
00:28:51Can you get off that
00:28:51fence?
00:28:54No, no, you're right.
00:28:55I'm looking at the
00:28:56recruitment in the summer.
00:28:58I think, let's just start
00:28:59with Falkirk.
00:29:00I think Falkirk will be
00:29:01well and truly safe.
00:29:02I looked at them
00:29:03yesterday.
00:29:03They popped the ball
00:29:04about well.
00:29:04They defend in numbers
00:29:06and I've got attacking
00:29:07options at the top end
00:29:08of the pitch and I think
00:29:11they'll be fine.
00:29:12I think he's done an
00:29:12incredible job and they've
00:29:13got a real good team
00:29:14spirit there.
00:29:15So I think Falkirk will
00:29:16be okay.
00:29:16As for Rangers, I didn't
00:29:18think they played
00:29:19particularly well at all
00:29:20yesterday.
00:29:20I thought it was very
00:29:21laboured, very slow.
00:29:23The top end of the
00:29:24pitch, they're lacking
00:29:25creativity and they're
00:29:27only getting a couple
00:29:28of shots off on target.
00:29:31Three shots on target.
00:29:31That's what I'm saying.
00:29:33I think you have to
00:29:34go back to 1930 odds
00:29:36that they've not scored
00:29:37against Falkirk at
00:29:38Ibrox.
00:29:39It's a long, old time.
00:29:40So I just, I'm, and
00:29:44also you've got the
00:29:45manager at the moment.
00:29:46You're looking at this
00:29:47guy, he's assessing
00:29:48everything.
00:29:49So see this, and now
00:29:50this is almost like an
00:29:50addition because he'll
00:29:52be going, he's not
00:29:53good enough.
00:29:53He's not good enough.
00:29:54How do we ship him
00:29:55out?
00:29:55And this will all be
00:29:56taking place now and
00:29:57they'll be assessing the
00:29:58players that they hope
00:29:59to get in in January.
00:30:00But the biggest and the
00:30:01hardest part that Rangers
00:30:02have at the moment is
00:30:03getting rid of these
00:30:04players that are not
00:30:06doing it for them.
00:30:07I actually thought
00:30:07Buzrami was a wee bit
00:30:08of a bright spark
00:30:09yesterday because he
00:30:09hasn't really played
00:30:10at all.
00:30:10He created a couple of
00:30:11wee opportunities.
00:30:13But in the main, at the
00:30:14top end of the pitch,
00:30:15the strikers are not
00:30:16firing.
00:30:17The wingers, you know,
00:30:18Gassama came in and
00:30:19started the season
00:30:19brilliantly.
00:30:21Asgard has been a real
00:30:21disappointment.
00:30:22So when you look at
00:30:24all these summer
00:30:25signings, you know,
00:30:28Ant-Man as well will
00:30:29come into that bracket
00:30:30has been non-existent.
00:30:31So I really think
00:30:32they're struggling at the
00:30:33top end of the pitch
00:30:34and I think the
00:30:34midfielders have to be
00:30:35so much more creative
00:30:36as well in terms of
00:30:37opening forward passes
00:30:39and playing at a
00:30:40tempo just to try and
00:30:41overwhelm teams like
00:30:42Falkert.
00:30:43So you get wave after
00:30:43wave after wave.
00:30:44And then you might end
00:30:46up kind of breaking
00:30:47them down when
00:30:48somebody kind of
00:30:48switches off.
00:30:49But they don't play
00:30:50the ball forward
00:30:50quick enough and
00:30:52with a tempo.
00:30:53Listen, the stats
00:30:54don't lie, Ruffey.
00:30:55Alex talking about
00:30:57Falkirk and the
00:30:58disappointment from
00:30:59Rangers and the
00:30:59performance there.
00:31:00And we talked about
00:31:01their shots on target
00:31:02but they're the
00:31:03seventh best in the
00:31:04league at creating
00:31:04chances.
00:31:05That's against every
00:31:06other team.
00:31:08And I think in the
00:31:09general consensus
00:31:10early on in the
00:31:11season under Russell
00:31:12Martin was the season
00:31:13was a write-off and
00:31:14then suddenly you
00:31:15get a wee sniff of
00:31:16well they're not
00:31:17that far back but
00:31:18you know, seven
00:31:19behind Celtic, nine
00:31:20behind Hearts and
00:31:22they don't look
00:31:23capable of going on
00:31:24a run.
00:31:25No, if they were
00:31:25capable they would
00:31:26have won that game
00:31:27of the weekend.
00:31:28They're the games
00:31:28you've got to win
00:31:29at home.
00:31:30You know, get three
00:31:30points and everybody
00:31:32as you say perks up
00:31:34a wee bit with
00:31:35Hearts dropping
00:31:35points.
00:31:36But that particular
00:31:38result, you know,
00:31:39I think January
00:31:41comes and you've got
00:31:42to hang on.
00:31:43I've always said
00:31:43there's a Scottish
00:31:44Cup to be won.
00:31:45There's European
00:31:46positions to be won
00:31:47at the end of the
00:31:48season.
00:31:48That should be the
00:31:49targets now, you
00:31:50know, unless something
00:31:51dramatically happens
00:31:52in the league.
00:31:53But I think that's
00:31:53what's left for
00:31:54Rangers.
00:31:55Yeah, he's going to
00:31:56wield the axe.
00:31:56I mean, it's a
00:31:57stonewall certainty.
00:31:59But it's just, it's
00:32:01alright saying, I
00:32:02think your point
00:32:02there about he's
00:32:03got to try and
00:32:04ship people out.
00:32:05Whether they ship
00:32:06them out at a loss
00:32:07is another pain in
00:32:07the back end because
00:32:08he spent, I think,
00:32:09overall that we're
00:32:10talking about, 40
00:32:11million pounds.
00:32:12And then you've
00:32:13got a board and a
00:32:14new board at that
00:32:15who'll look and
00:32:15say, right, okay,
00:32:16we're going to try and
00:32:17get them out for you,
00:32:18but what do you need
00:32:20short term?
00:32:21And I look at their
00:32:22side and I'm thinking
00:32:22to myself, one thing
00:32:25I've emphasised for the
00:32:26last couple of years
00:32:28is defenders.
00:32:30Oh, no, I know.
00:32:31Listen, they've
00:32:33obviously went and
00:32:34got Jiga, who's
00:32:35really strong.
00:32:36Actually, when he
00:32:36first came in the
00:32:37first couple of
00:32:37games, I thought,
00:32:38oh, you look's
00:32:38decent, but he's
00:32:39actually regressed
00:32:40and you spoke about,
00:32:42I think it was
00:32:42Ruffey was talking
00:32:42about in terms of
00:32:43the weight of the
00:32:44jersey, along the
00:32:45lines.
00:32:47And by the way,
00:32:48when you play with
00:32:48Rangers and things
00:32:49are not going well,
00:32:50the actual, you know,
00:32:51the old, you need a
00:32:52tin helmet and you
00:32:53need that mentality
00:32:54to try and drag your
00:32:55way through that.
00:32:56I often speak to
00:32:57big Mark Cately
00:32:57and he says,
00:32:58obviously I started
00:32:59really poorly, but
00:32:59I was in a winning
00:33:00team and it allowed
00:33:01him time to kind of
00:33:02get in his rhythm
00:33:03and he ended up
00:33:04becoming a legend.
00:33:05But you're not
00:33:06coming into a winning
00:33:07team, you're coming
00:33:07into a team that
00:33:08are actually struggling
00:33:08at both ends of
00:33:09the pitch and
00:33:10they've been
00:33:11struggling.
00:33:12So unless, Peter,
00:33:14do you know the
00:33:14hardest thing in
00:33:15football is actually
00:33:16getting ready players?
00:33:17And we've seen
00:33:18this, we've seen
00:33:18players, even before
00:33:19I was in there with
00:33:20Philippe, there's
00:33:21players still sitting
00:33:22there on the payroll
00:33:22there that are not
00:33:23playing on a weekly
00:33:24basis, they're on
00:33:25eye-watering amounts
00:33:27of money per week
00:33:28and they're not
00:33:31really that keen
00:33:31of moving, you
00:33:32know, because the
00:33:33thing is they're not
00:33:34keen to take a wage
00:33:35drop, so wherever
00:33:36they go, they're not
00:33:37going to get the
00:33:37same salary, so they
00:33:38just sit until the
00:33:39contract expires and
00:33:41unfortunately that's
00:33:42part of the problem
00:33:43with the Rangers,
00:33:44they cannot get these
00:33:45guys out.
00:33:45I always remember,
00:33:46you know, and I
00:33:47think it was said on
00:33:48many an occasion by
00:33:49many a Celtic manager
00:33:50as well and many a
00:33:52chief executive, a
00:33:53director, a chairman,
00:33:54and David Murray
00:33:55used to say it, you
00:33:56know, a lot of
00:33:57players find out that
00:33:57after Celtic and
00:33:58Rangers, it's that
00:34:01way, it's a lesser
00:34:03club, it's a club that
00:34:04doesn't have the same
00:34:05expectation.
00:34:06There's very few that
00:34:08you think about that
00:34:09leave Rangers and go
00:34:10on to bigger things.
00:34:12I think in the...
00:34:13Unless you're an
00:34:13up-and-coming.
00:34:14Oh no, it's the early
00:34:1590s when you had guys
00:34:16like Arteta, you know,
00:34:17that type of guy that
00:34:18were coming in, they
00:34:19were 21, Gattuso, these
00:34:21type of guys, and then
00:34:22they were... so they
00:34:23were buying them as a
00:34:23development to then
00:34:24sell them on, Peter, but
00:34:26you're absolutely right.
00:34:27And listen, I've seen
00:34:29plenty of players think,
00:34:31oh, I'm at Rangers and
00:34:32the grass is always
00:34:33greener, but, you know,
00:34:34there's plenty of people
00:34:35left and it's... they end
00:34:36up tumbling down the
00:34:38pecking order.
00:34:39Yeah, and of course a
00:34:40lot of people have their
00:34:41say on it.
00:34:42Somebody said, Rangers
00:34:44are already posting
00:34:45losses of 14 million,
00:34:47there'll be no splashing
00:34:48the cash.
00:34:48I certainly don't see it
00:34:50as being substantial,
00:34:51but I do see them
00:34:52getting money to try
00:34:55and get one or two
00:34:56players in that could
00:34:56maybe shut up shop
00:34:57and maybe something
00:34:59creative.
00:35:00If you were, you know,
00:35:02if you were in that
00:35:03place where you said,
00:35:05what's the priority in
00:35:06that January window,
00:35:07what do you think
00:35:08Danny Roll will be
00:35:09looking at?
00:35:09I would have to say
00:35:10a left-back for starters.
00:35:12They're left-back,
00:35:12they've got the boy
00:35:13Magoma and then
00:35:14they're obviously
00:35:14playing Arons there
00:35:15and having been at
00:35:17the game yesterday.
00:35:17Every time he gets
00:35:18the ball, he naturally
00:35:19comes inside the pitch,
00:35:20everything slows down,
00:35:22it allows the opposition
00:35:22to drop back in.
00:35:24So a left-back,
00:35:26potentially another
00:35:27centre-half,
00:35:28because, you know,
00:35:30in that area
00:35:30they're clearly
00:35:31struggling.
00:35:33Whether Nico Raskin,
00:35:34so this is the thing,
00:35:35is whether you cash
00:35:36in on Nico Raskin,
00:35:37you know,
00:35:37on the Belgian
00:35:38international,
00:35:39I don't think his
00:35:40form's been great
00:35:41this season,
00:35:42but I think
00:35:43you've got him,
00:35:44he's playing well
00:35:45for Belgium,
00:35:45somebody might take
00:35:46a nibble there,
00:35:46which might free up
00:35:48some money that
00:35:48would allow you
00:35:49to cover a couple
00:35:50of these positions.
00:35:52And then,
00:35:53maybe another wide guy.
00:35:55You know,
00:35:55I'm looking at Ant-Man,
00:35:57Kusama's like...
00:35:59Hot and cold.
00:36:00Yeah, very much so,
00:36:00you know,
00:36:01sometimes you see him,
00:36:02you go,
00:36:02he's got something
00:36:03about him.
00:36:04The likelihood is
00:36:05he'll get in double
00:36:05figures this year,
00:36:06Kusama,
00:36:07for your first season
00:36:08I think it's not bad,
00:36:09but, you know,
00:36:10Ant-Man's not really
00:36:11done it.
00:36:13Bajrami,
00:36:13he's obviously just
00:36:14played the other day,
00:36:15whether he hangs
00:36:16about or whether
00:36:17they move him on
00:36:18and maybe free up
00:36:19a couple of quid,
00:36:19but again,
00:36:20that would be a loss,
00:36:21but then he's obviously
00:36:22in good money as well.
00:36:24And then what they do
00:36:25at the top end
00:36:25of the pitch,
00:36:26because that's the
00:36:27number nine jersey,
00:36:28because you've got
00:36:28Danilo,
00:36:29who's on good money.
00:36:32Kermiti.
00:36:32Do you loan him out
00:36:34just to try and...
00:36:35Kermiti?
00:36:36Yeah.
00:36:36Loan him out?
00:36:37I don't know.
00:36:38Was he not linked
00:36:39to Braga about
00:36:40four weeks ago
00:36:41in the January window?
00:36:43You couldn't loan him
00:36:43out at eight million,
00:36:44could you?
00:36:45I don't know.
00:36:46I'm just thinking about...
00:36:47Say you wanted to
00:36:48bring a nine in.
00:36:50Do you know
00:36:50what the thing is?
00:36:51For me,
00:36:51there's two absolute
00:36:53musts for Rangers.
00:36:55Is a number five
00:36:56and a number nine.
00:36:57Yes.
00:36:58The rest of the
00:36:59supporting cast,
00:37:00you know,
00:37:00I think if they were
00:37:01going to say,
00:37:02right,
00:37:02we're going to bite
00:37:03the bullet,
00:37:04they'll bite the bullet
00:37:05at the left back.
00:37:05So what I'm saying is,
00:37:07let's just take
00:37:07the number nine.
00:37:08Who's biting the bullet
00:37:09up there?
00:37:09Who are you getting ready?
00:37:10That's the thing.
00:37:11Because you have to
00:37:11three one up.
00:37:12Because you're currently
00:37:13sat with three.
00:37:14You've got Kermiti,
00:37:15Majofsky and Danilo.
00:37:16So one of them
00:37:17has to go somewhere.
00:37:19I think we all thought
00:37:20when Majofsky came in,
00:37:21he was the one.
00:37:23But he's not done it either.
00:37:24He's not done...
00:37:25You know,
00:37:25with the form he had
00:37:26at Aberdeen,
00:37:27yeah,
00:37:27and then he's obviously
00:37:28good enough to get
00:37:28the river more.
00:37:29Why was he good at Aberdeen?
00:37:31Why was he good?
00:37:32Do you know why?
00:37:32Do you know what
00:37:33his strengths were, Ruffey?
00:37:34Running in behind.
00:37:37Ball over the top.
00:37:38He's facing the goals.
00:37:39Rangers,
00:37:40you have to link.
00:37:40You have to be...
00:37:41And when you're recruiting,
00:37:43you've got so much
00:37:43of the ball,
00:37:44you have to play
00:37:44through the lines.
00:37:45You have to drop
00:37:45and then you have to
00:37:46do various movements.
00:37:48It's what I saw yesterday,
00:37:50which I really do like
00:37:51from the boy,
00:37:52and he's getting better
00:37:53and better at it,
00:37:54is Kieran Bowie.
00:37:57He's rolling players.
00:37:58He's holding it in.
00:37:58He's laying it off.
00:37:59He's getting better at it.
00:38:00He's not the finished article
00:38:01by a long way,
00:38:03but I watched an old
00:38:04thing on,
00:38:06I think it was TikTok
00:38:07or YouTube or whatever,
00:38:08and you saw
00:38:09an old game with Scotland
00:38:11with one of your old teammates
00:38:12and Jordan and Hately
00:38:13and Sutton
00:38:14masters at it.
00:38:15Why?
00:38:16Hold the ball in,
00:38:17lay it to the midfield,
00:38:18get them up the park,
00:38:20or lay it off wide.
00:38:22They had that skill.
00:38:23I know, I know,
00:38:23and it's basic as well.
00:38:25You know,
00:38:25it's no...
00:38:26Chris Sutton had the knack
00:38:27of getting in the 18-yard line
00:38:29and just falling down.
00:38:30Free kick.
00:38:31He also did knacky...
00:38:32Throw a kick.
00:38:32Somebody hit me.
00:38:33Free kick.
00:38:35Goal.
00:38:36You know,
00:38:36that was easy.
00:38:37He also did knacky
00:38:38just going like
00:38:38in the back of my head
00:38:39every time.
00:38:41At throw-ins,
00:38:41you just try and stand
00:38:42in front of him.
00:38:43You just felt
00:38:44it was running.
00:38:44Bang.
00:38:45Well, I remember
00:38:45the other one
00:38:46you were talking about there.
00:38:46I remember Hately's goal
00:38:47against Aberdeen
00:38:48in the title decider.
00:38:50When he went for the header,
00:38:52it didn't matter
00:38:52who was in any area.
00:38:54He was winning it
00:38:55and he was taking them out.
00:38:56But those three
00:38:57that we mentioned there
00:38:58are...
00:38:59It's an art.
00:39:00It's an absolute art
00:39:02just holding that ball,
00:39:03bringing the midfield in,
00:39:04buying people time,
00:39:05getting them an out ball
00:39:06if they're under pressure
00:39:07down the channel.
00:39:08You know,
00:39:09so it doesn't...
00:39:09It doesn't augur well
00:39:11for them.
00:39:11But I must admit,
00:39:12I'm amazed.
00:39:13I don't...
00:39:13Could they take
00:39:15Cermiti out
00:39:15of the equation?
00:39:16The reason why I say this
00:39:17is it was actually reported
00:39:19that Braga were going to
00:39:21try and get a play
00:39:22to get him on loan
00:39:22in January.
00:39:24I think that's a wee bit
00:39:26of any chance
00:39:26you could stick that in there
00:39:27to see if we can get it.
00:39:29Everybody bite.
00:39:30Yeah, exactly.
00:39:31And we'll give you
00:39:32a meal for four
00:39:34in the rest of the time.
00:39:37Cheers, Saturn.
00:39:38Not a plump.
00:39:39Not a chance, exactly.
00:39:41So...
00:39:41And by the way,
00:39:42Butlin yet again
00:39:42comes up with a big save.
00:39:44The deflection is brilliant.
00:39:45He's having to make saves.
00:39:47He's having to make it.
00:39:47Butlin, yeah.
00:39:48He nearly made a pig's ear
00:39:49out at the end.
00:39:50Yeah, the one...
00:39:51The clearance.
00:39:51Oh, it's unlike you
00:39:52to highlight that.
00:39:53No, I've just been
00:39:55observant, just noticing that.
00:39:57But he has been that saviour.
00:39:58Yeah.
00:39:59He's been making the save.
00:39:59When you talk about...
00:40:00No, you go back to
00:40:01South again, what about
00:40:02Smeichel?
00:40:03Smeichel's been making this.
00:40:04Smeichel, huge.
00:40:05Unbelievable, you know,
00:40:06and that's...
00:40:07As Alec will tell you,
00:40:08if you know you've got
00:40:09a goalkeeper like that
00:40:10who's going to make
00:40:11that save for you...
00:40:12Crucial.
00:40:12It's crucial.
00:40:13Yeah.
00:40:13Peter, sorry, just to highlight.
00:40:15See if you were saying
00:40:15about any player
00:40:17that has had pass marks
00:40:18over the piece,
00:40:19Big Butlin has to come
00:40:20into the mix.
00:40:22Absolutely.
00:40:22You know, when you're
00:40:23looking at the rest,
00:40:24I think, you know,
00:40:25yeah, I would say
00:40:27Butlin's probably
00:40:27the standout.
00:40:28Absolutely.
00:40:29Even in a bad day,
00:40:29he's getting six out of ten,
00:40:31isn't he?
00:40:31Aye, aye, no, he must.
00:40:32Big saves.
00:40:32Livingston, 0-Aberdeen, 1-0.
00:40:34Nicky Devlin,
00:40:35it was ten minutes to go
00:40:35when he popped up
00:40:36and scored against
00:40:37his old team.
00:40:38They're heading
00:40:38in the right direction.
00:40:39Five wins in the last
00:40:40seven games.
00:40:41They're a real yo-yo
00:40:42side of Aberdeen.
00:40:43Yeah, man, I used it
00:40:44till he was getting
00:40:45at the bump about
00:40:45four weeks ago.
00:40:46Listen, you can be
00:40:48a yo-yo team
00:40:49but you can be a yo-yo
00:40:49pundit.
00:40:51You know, and he's
00:40:52like that though,
00:40:53isn't he?
00:40:53They're digging it now,
00:40:54aren't they?
00:40:55They're digging it out
00:40:55the wee result here,
00:40:56the wee rub of the green.
00:40:57I thought Livingston
00:40:58were okay.
00:40:59They had chances.
00:41:00The disappointing
00:41:01thing for me was
00:41:03David Martindale's
00:41:04demeanour
00:41:06after the game.
00:41:08That's the first time
00:41:08I've seen him
00:41:09like that, really down.
00:41:10Was it like a league
00:41:11winning 12, Robbie?
00:41:12No, but you could see
00:41:13it was affecting him.
00:41:14He was talking it up,
00:41:15he was saying,
00:41:16oh, we're unlucky there.
00:41:17VAR's a nightmare
00:41:18but the interview
00:41:19afterward, you could
00:41:20sense, you know,
00:41:21that...
00:41:22Well, the problem is
00:41:23can he score goals?
00:41:24Yeah, it's always
00:41:25the top-ended pitch
00:41:26is always, if you
00:41:27kind of get guys
00:41:27on a regular basis
00:41:28it becomes a real
00:41:29difficult job.
00:41:30As you thought,
00:41:31and I don't often
00:41:32give him a lot of
00:41:33praise, Shunny,
00:41:34but the way he won
00:41:34the ball back down
00:41:35in the corner
00:41:36and he set it back
00:41:37and they delivered it
00:41:38to the back ball,
00:41:39the little chip
00:41:40for Devlin was a
00:41:41tremendous ball
00:41:42and he just goes
00:41:43back across to
00:41:44the goalkeeper.
00:41:45I thought it was a
00:41:45really well-worked goal
00:41:46and you're talking
00:41:48about these moments
00:41:49because they're
00:41:50definitive because
00:41:51there's not a lot
00:41:51between these teams
00:41:52on their day
00:41:53and Aberdeen seem
00:41:55to be getting that
00:41:55at the moment
00:41:56and the one thing
00:41:56that's in their favour
00:41:57as well is they're
00:41:57not conceding a lot
00:41:58now, Aberdeen.
00:41:59They seem to have
00:41:59showed it up a little
00:42:00bit, but that's a
00:42:02really important win
00:42:03and they're going
00:42:03in the right direction.
00:42:04Yeah, absolutely.
00:42:05They're now seventh
00:42:05thing heading up the
00:42:06way rather than
00:42:07they could have been
00:42:08dragged in if
00:42:08Livingston had got
00:42:09the win, but they're
00:42:10not and I think they
00:42:12deserve credit for it
00:42:13and you have to
00:42:14at times, as Alec
00:42:16pointed out there,
00:42:17the yo-yo nature of it
00:42:18Robbie, you have to
00:42:19give him credit when
00:42:21he's winning the games.
00:42:23But can I say
00:42:24something to you?
00:42:24I asked a couple of
00:42:25Don's fans that I'm
00:42:26quite pally with and I
00:42:29said to them about
00:42:29and they were like
00:42:31the jury's out, they
00:42:33just can't work it
00:42:34out, you know, okay
00:42:35it's a good run, fine
00:42:36but still not
00:42:37convinced, you know
00:42:39because they've had
00:42:40that and then they
00:42:41had that and then
00:42:42they're having this
00:42:43wee bit again, but
00:42:44I don't know what the
00:42:45expectation is, I
00:42:46don't see a definitive
00:42:49style on them.
00:42:50We're coming to a
00:42:51team that I do see a
00:42:52definitive style on
00:42:52shortly, but I don't
00:42:53see one with them.
00:42:54But by the way, he's
00:42:56getting them close to
00:42:57getting into the top
00:42:58half and he deserves
00:42:58credit.
00:42:59Yeah, and the players
00:43:00deserve credit as well
00:43:01because we were all
00:43:02scalping them after that
00:43:036-0 defeat in Europe
00:43:04and we were blaming
00:43:05them for the
00:43:05coefficient and
00:43:06Alex Wright, they've
00:43:08got their act together,
00:43:09they're putting a bit
00:43:10of digging now, they're
00:43:11shutting people down,
00:43:12they're getting a wee
00:43:13rub of the green,
00:43:13getting a late goal,
00:43:15things like that and
00:43:15that can only help the
00:43:17dressing room, but
00:43:18you're right, they've
00:43:19got a long way to go.
00:43:20Yeah, okay, a team
00:43:21that I do know exactly
00:43:22the way they play is
00:43:23Motherwell.
00:43:24Motherwell nil,
00:43:24Hearts nil, and
00:43:26again, everybody was
00:43:27talking, I get in
00:43:28sometimes it gets lost
00:43:29in it all.
00:43:31Motherwell up the
00:43:32table, third in the
00:43:33table, Hearts, everybody
00:43:35was looking at them
00:43:36thinking, nine points
00:43:36clear of Celtic, this is
00:43:37the chance, but it
00:43:40slipped away, six
00:43:41points from the last
00:43:4215 available in the
00:43:43last five games for the
00:43:44jambos, but still Derek
00:43:46McInnes is just trying to
00:43:48put it all in
00:43:48perspective.
00:43:49Yeah, I think so, I
00:43:50think we're, I'm
00:43:52delighted that even
00:43:54ahead of the game we
00:43:54had a chance to go seven
00:43:55points clear, even
00:43:56saying that as a
00:43:57Hearts manager, that
00:43:58in your near
00:43:59end of December, a
00:44:00chance to win to go
00:44:01seven points clear,
00:44:02there has to be some
00:44:03sort of perspective.
00:44:04These boys are human,
00:44:05they work hard, they
00:44:06care for the club, we
00:44:07try and get results, so
00:44:10there's no real
00:44:10criticism for me, there's
00:44:12certain things I
00:44:12thought we could have
00:44:12done better today, and
00:44:14there's a bit of
00:44:15frustration towards
00:44:16that, but we're doing
00:44:18a lot right, but a
00:44:18good thing going here
00:44:19at the club at the
00:44:20minute, and it's
00:44:21important we just, as
00:44:22I say, hopefully try and
00:44:23win a game of football
00:44:23on Wednesday, if we can
00:44:26do that, then we get
00:44:27the next weekend's game
00:44:28in a decent place and a
00:44:29good position in the
00:44:30league.
00:44:31Yeah, five games on the
00:44:33Wednesday card, we
00:44:34will keep you up to
00:44:35date with that right
00:44:36across our social media
00:44:37channels, but you can
00:44:39understand why Ruffy's
00:44:40trying to put a
00:44:41positive spin on it, he's
00:44:42got to try and keep
00:44:43them going until maybe
00:44:45he gets reinforcements in
00:44:46January as well.
00:44:47Yeah, I think they have
00:44:49been a breath of fresh
00:44:50air this year, we can't
00:44:51take anything away from
00:44:51them, yeah, there are
00:44:53going to be times when
00:44:54you come up against a
00:44:55team that are there to
00:44:56be hit, they're there to
00:44:57be hit it now, you
00:44:59know, everybody's going
00:44:59out to Rangers and
00:45:00Celtic, it's hearts, oh
00:45:02we've got hearts this
00:45:03weekend, let's get
00:45:04something off of them
00:45:05and let's knock them
00:45:06down a peg, and that's
00:45:08what teams are doing
00:45:08now, that's what
00:45:09Motherwell did, you
00:45:10know, you're right,
00:45:10Motherwell did play
00:45:11some good football, I
00:45:13like the wee boy you
00:45:13keep raving about, is
00:45:14it Just his name, is
00:45:15it Just?
00:45:16Yeah, Justin, what's he
00:45:18from?
00:45:19He, I think, is New
00:45:20Zealand.
00:45:21He's on loan, isn't he?
00:45:22He's on loan for
00:45:23somewhere down in
00:45:23England, maybe I'm
00:45:24wrong, but I think he
00:45:25was on loan.
00:45:26You think so?
00:45:26I thought he was
00:45:27signed, actually.
00:45:27Anyway, he's a breath
00:45:28of fresh air, he looks
00:45:30as a great wee shimmy
00:45:32he did, you know, to go
00:45:33through, obviously.
00:45:34That's a word I've not
00:45:34heard for a hundred
00:45:35years.
00:45:35Oh, listen, he'll bring
00:45:36them back, he brings
00:45:37them all back, yeah.
00:45:39He's a slug of your
00:45:40ginger.
00:45:40He was, you're a
00:45:44tiser.
00:45:45Yeah, you're a tiser,
00:45:46yeah.
00:45:47Aye, he was unlucky, the
00:45:49goalkeeper, the goalkeeper
00:45:50made a good save, but
00:45:51yeah, if you're a
00:45:52motherboard supporter
00:45:53just now, you're on
00:45:54a high.
00:45:54Yeah, my favourite
00:45:55player on the whole
00:45:56team, I mean, Just is
00:45:59up there, he's Elliot
00:46:01Just, he's from New
00:46:02Zealand, I was absolutely
00:46:03right there, and no,
00:46:06no, he's signed.
00:46:07Yeah, yeah, he's
00:46:08signed, so you're
00:46:09talking, yeah, he's
00:46:12AC Horsens, he's
00:46:14signed from, so there
00:46:15you are, so you're
00:46:17talking rubbish again,
00:46:18you, just taking a
00:46:20I've got you to
00:46:20check, I don't know
00:46:21I have to check, I
00:46:22have to check, because
00:46:22you always throw those
00:46:23little grenades, and
00:46:24my favourite player on
00:46:25that team is the guy
00:46:26who makes it all tick
00:46:26for them, which is
00:46:27Elliot Watt.
00:46:28Yeah, good player.
00:46:29Yeah, he just keeps
00:46:30everything, he's nice.
00:46:30Listen, actually, the
00:46:32brand of football
00:46:33they're actually playing
00:46:33in Motherwell is
00:46:34really impressive, they
00:46:35try and construct for
00:46:36the back, they've
00:46:37got real pace and
00:46:38power as well
00:46:39throughout the team
00:46:40and it's interesting
00:46:43because he actually had
00:46:44a sticky period for a
00:46:45while there, didn't
00:46:45he, and then obviously
00:46:46a couple of good
00:46:47wins, he's actually
00:46:47kind of pulled him up
00:46:48the league, but he
00:46:50sticks to his
00:46:50philosophy, Peter, he
00:46:51tries to play out, as
00:46:52you say, and they're
00:46:54getting the rewards, and
00:46:55I think when you speak
00:46:56to Motherwell fans,
00:46:57they're absolutely
00:46:57delighted, because you're
00:46:58talking about a brand,
00:46:59so even days off where
00:47:00you're not getting the
00:47:02result, most fans are
00:47:03wanting the result, but
00:47:04they're going to
00:47:04listen, you can see
00:47:05what he's trying to do.
00:47:05Yeah, they're responding
00:47:06to him as well, and I'm
00:47:07going to ask you the
00:47:08question, we're going to
00:47:09hear from Jens Berthal
00:47:10Asgau, but I'm asking you
00:47:11the question, what does
00:47:12the game between
00:47:13Motherwell and
00:47:14Hearts at the weekend,
00:47:1510,938 fans, what does
00:47:17that have to do with
00:47:19Alec Ray, what's the
00:47:21connection as Jens Berthal
00:47:23Asgau praises this huge
00:47:25bumper crowd from the
00:47:25weekend?
00:47:26Obviously for us, it
00:47:28means a lot, but it
00:47:30also means a lot for
00:47:32people to have something
00:47:33to look forward to and
00:47:35go to together as a
00:47:36community, which makes
00:47:38them proud and makes
00:47:39them get good
00:47:40experiences together,
00:47:41and that's what we want
00:47:43to try to create with
00:47:44the way we do things,
00:47:46several tracks of how we
00:47:50try to develop this
00:47:51club, first of all,
00:47:52creating results, second
00:47:53of all, creating an
00:47:56identity, which people
00:47:58can be proud of and
00:47:59identify with.
00:48:01Yeah, and I'm just
00:48:02about to say to you,
00:48:0310,938, huge hearts
00:48:05would bring a great
00:48:06support as well, but
00:48:08what's the connection
00:48:10Raffi, 10,938, the
00:48:13last time the biggest
00:48:13crowd at Firth Park was
00:48:14recorded before that was?
00:48:17Was Alec playing
00:48:18with Rangers for that?
00:48:19No, no, but he had a
00:48:21connection to it, the
00:48:23last time.
00:48:23No, no, it was
00:48:24somebody.
00:48:25Do you want to have a
00:48:25wee stab at it?
00:48:26No.
00:48:2710,938, the last time
00:48:29there was that big a
00:48:31crowd at Firth Park was
00:48:32the helicopters changing
00:48:33direction in 2005.
00:48:35There you go, sir.
00:48:35There was a connection
00:48:36between you and I in
00:48:37that one, isn't there?
00:48:38Yes, absolutely.
00:48:39But he's absolutely
00:48:40right.
00:48:41See what he was
00:48:41talking about there,
00:48:41an identity, the fans
00:48:43are buying into it.
00:48:43Obviously, hearts are
00:48:44travelling, supports
00:48:45tremendous as well, so
00:48:47made for a brilliant
00:48:48afternoon.
00:48:49And yeah, it's
00:48:51interesting listening to
00:48:52Derek as well.
00:48:52I think you have to
00:48:53put perspective on it.
00:48:54Obviously, the last four
00:48:56or five games, there's
00:48:56not what they're looking
00:48:57for, but it was always
00:48:58going to be difficult to
00:48:59maintain that winning
00:48:59streak.
00:49:00Yeah.
00:49:00And then the thing is,
00:49:01once that streak's
00:49:02broken, you then have to
00:49:04go back on a run again.
00:49:05And once they do that, I'm
00:49:06sure, once they get one or
00:49:07two victories under his
00:49:09belt, I think they're going
00:49:10on a run again because
00:49:11they've got the
00:49:11personnel, they've got
00:49:12match winners at the top
00:49:13end of the pitch, and
00:49:14they've got a big squad.
00:49:15Yeah, absolutely.
00:49:16OK.
00:49:17Come on at one, Dundee
00:49:17United, one United, now
00:49:19winless in the last four
00:49:20games.
00:49:21They're shipping goals,
00:49:21Ruffy, and that's
00:49:22probably where the problem
00:49:23comes.
00:49:23Ten goals in the last six.
00:49:25Yeah, particularly the
00:49:26midweek one last week was a
00:49:27big shocker for them.
00:49:28So they'd want to go into
00:49:29that game and try and get
00:49:30something out of it.
00:49:31I don't think they ever got
00:49:32going.
00:49:33I don't think Come on at
00:49:34got going either.
00:49:35I think, obviously, the
00:49:36penalty incidents are the
00:49:37things we'll be talking
00:49:38about.
00:49:39But, you know, I think I
00:49:42thought we'd come on at
00:49:43getting the first goal
00:49:43that we'd, OK, they've
00:49:44been on a bad run, that'll
00:49:45give them a wee lift.
00:49:47But lo and behold, it
00:49:48never.
00:49:48Yeah.
00:49:49They just went back to
00:49:50their old ways.
00:49:51And fair play to Bruce
00:49:52Anderson because I like
00:49:54Bruce as a person as
00:49:55well, but I like him as a
00:49:56player.
00:49:57He works hard.
00:49:57Like graphs.
00:49:58And even when the keeper
00:50:00makes a save, you've got
00:50:01to anticipate, haven't
00:50:02you?
00:50:02I have to be honest with
00:50:03you, he's given a good
00:50:04old clip.
00:50:05See if the goalkeeper
00:50:06are anywhere near that.
00:50:07He was in the net,
00:50:08I don't know.
00:50:09Honestly, he took a
00:50:10runny at it, haven't I?
00:50:12Honestly.
00:50:13You should do what you
00:50:15should do.
00:50:15You should go back to the
00:50:17schoolyard and just play
00:50:18runny.
00:50:19Play peaver and
00:50:20everything.
00:50:20Oh, I have to be honest
00:50:21with you.
00:50:22But see, the thing is,
00:50:22obviously, you're a
00:50:23goalkeeper.
00:50:23How do you get the
00:50:24trajectory where you had
00:50:25that little spin coming
00:50:25back off him?
00:50:26I know.
00:50:27You know, and it's just
00:50:27landed right up him, but
00:50:28he's absolutely blasted
00:50:29it.
00:50:29And, listen, I've had a
00:50:32few where I've missed
00:50:33and you're trying to just
00:50:34please come back off
00:50:35him.
00:50:35Yeah.
00:50:36But he's obviously
00:50:36hit that one.
00:50:37And it was important
00:50:38for him as well because
00:50:38they want to try and
00:50:40break that cycle.
00:50:41You know, I was
00:50:41listening to Stuart
00:50:42Kettlewell a couple of
00:50:42weeks ago and he says
00:50:43we're trying all different
00:50:44shapes, different personnel
00:50:45and we're trying to get
00:50:46that elusive victory.
00:50:48But I know they're
00:50:49diligent in what they do
00:50:50down there, him and
00:50:51Stephen Frail.
00:50:52So, you know, hopefully
00:50:53they can get a victory
00:50:54soon.
00:50:54Yeah.
00:50:55I'll tell you who's
00:50:55playing well for United
00:50:56even when they're going
00:50:57through this difficult
00:50:58time.
00:50:59Sybil, isn't he?
00:51:00He's chipped in with
00:51:01goals.
00:51:01Even with the goal that
00:51:02he scored, you know, you
00:51:03could see him being in a
00:51:04position and he was
00:51:05anticipating where the
00:51:06ball was going to go
00:51:07before everybody else.
00:51:09He sort of just peeled
00:51:09off, you know, and
00:51:11thinking, well, the ball's
00:51:12going to come back in
00:51:13here.
00:51:13It's going to come back
00:51:14in where I am and he
00:51:16read it well and
00:51:17obviously slid in and
00:51:18just got it.
00:51:19He scored a few
00:51:19wildies of late but
00:51:20that was important for
00:51:21him at the weekend and
00:51:22I feel as if Sybil has
00:51:24been about for like so
00:51:25long but he obviously
00:51:26played at Falkett as a
00:51:28youngster.
00:51:29Yeah, he crewed a lot
00:51:30of games and I feel as
00:51:32if he's in a purple
00:51:32patch of his career, you
00:51:33know, where he is at
00:51:34the moment.
00:51:35I think he's leading
00:51:36the way up there at
00:51:36United.
00:51:37Did you go as a
00:51:37penalty?
00:51:39The header?
00:51:40The two boys with the
00:51:41header.
00:51:41No, I didn't.
00:51:42I thought it was a
00:51:43coming.
00:51:43See the thing, that's
00:51:45the thing they talk
00:51:45about, natural contact
00:51:47and if you're going to
00:51:49win a ball and sometimes
00:51:50you get there and
00:51:51there's a coming
00:51:51together, I just
00:51:52didn't see enough in
00:51:53it to warrant that.
00:51:54I thought the first
00:51:55one was, I thought
00:51:56that was a clear
00:51:56penalty.
00:51:56You couldn't have a
00:51:59former player on the
00:52:00VAR by the way.
00:52:01No, you would never
00:52:02have it.
00:52:03It'd just be a nightmare
00:52:04because they'd turn
00:52:05around to the other
00:52:05two match officials
00:52:06and go, that's never
00:52:07a penalty, I know
00:52:07exactly what he was
00:52:08thinking there.
00:52:09Do you know what I
00:52:09mean?
00:52:10You'd end up with
00:52:11just constant arguments
00:52:12and they'd be going
00:52:13delay, delay for five
00:52:14and a half minutes.
00:52:15Listen, I get it
00:52:16every week.
00:52:16Yeah.
00:52:17Obviously we're
00:52:18winning quite a lot
00:52:19of games of late.
00:52:20Yeah.
00:52:21I'm still irate about
00:52:22some of the decisions
00:52:23I see on a weekly
00:52:23basis.
00:52:24Absolutely.
00:52:24Listen, thank you
00:52:25to Bob who thinks
00:52:26that anybody I pay
00:52:27a compliment to is
00:52:28my mate and I
00:52:29really like them.
00:52:31So somebody thinks
00:52:32PLZ just loves
00:52:33Derek McKinnis.
00:52:33Bob says, Bruce
00:52:35Anderson, another
00:52:35mate of Peter's.
00:52:37No.
00:52:37No.
00:52:38He's not.
00:52:39I just like players
00:52:41who...
00:52:41I just put a shift
00:52:42in.
00:52:42Yeah, put a shift
00:52:43in.
00:52:43Graft.
00:52:44And you know, when
00:52:45it's not going well,
00:52:46still graft.
00:52:47Aye, well that should
00:52:48be the starter for
00:52:4910, no?
00:52:50Yeah, absolutely.
00:52:50And of course, you
00:52:51know, if I was picking
00:52:53the ultimate for a
00:52:54me, I'd have
00:52:54Pirlo's and, you
00:52:57know, and Javi and
00:52:58Niestas all day
00:52:59long, Ruffy.
00:52:59Is that fair?
00:53:00I think so, aye.
00:53:01I think it'd be good
00:53:02to watch A3.
00:53:02Yeah, absolutely.
00:53:04Dundee 3, St Mirren
00:53:051.
00:53:06I'm going to talk
00:53:06about the positives
00:53:07because, again, I
00:53:08like Stephen Presley.
00:53:09Big Elvis.
00:53:10I think he needs a
00:53:11bit of time.
00:53:12Like many managers,
00:53:13let's not have
00:53:14knee-jerk reaction.
00:53:15Well, listen, I
00:53:16think it was always
00:53:16going to be difficult
00:53:17for him because he
00:53:18came in, he wasn't
00:53:18a popular choice.
00:53:19And I like Big
00:53:21Elvis, I love his
00:53:21post-match.
00:53:22I know he was
00:53:22going to...
00:53:23Do you know the
00:53:23thing I see when
00:53:24he goes on the
00:53:24telly?
00:53:25You never know
00:53:25what you're going
00:53:26to get.
00:53:26You say, oh, I
00:53:26was dreaming that
00:53:27and all this,
00:53:27carry on.
00:53:28So, I think he's
00:53:29a breath of
00:53:29fresh air.
00:53:30Now, I've not
00:53:31really taken to
00:53:32him up there.
00:53:33It was very
00:53:34difficult.
00:53:34He had no
00:53:34players leading
00:53:36up to the
00:53:37season starting.
00:53:38And this was a
00:53:39massive result for
00:53:40him.
00:53:40What, are they
00:53:40fourth bottom in
00:53:41the league?
00:53:42And they've
00:53:43obviously beat
00:53:43someone round
00:53:44the bilm, so it
00:53:45was an important
00:53:45three points for
00:53:46him.
00:53:46And the one
00:53:47thing you can
00:53:48say about the
00:53:48team up there,
00:53:49they're grafting.
00:53:49You know, we're
00:53:50obviously missing
00:53:50the boy Anderson,
00:53:51but they're all
00:53:52charging about.
00:53:52You know, you
00:53:53look at the big
00:53:53boy Murray,
00:53:54charging about,
00:53:55puts pressure on
00:53:55the defender and
00:53:56then results in
00:53:56equaliser quite
00:53:58quickly after
00:53:58St Mirren's
00:53:59scored.
00:53:59So, I think it's
00:54:00a brilliant result
00:54:01for the multi-
00:54:02Dundee there.
00:54:03And obviously
00:54:04Stephen Robinson's
00:54:05trying to kind of
00:54:06get that winning
00:54:06formula because I
00:54:08look at them, I
00:54:09watched them play
00:54:09against Celtic last
00:54:10week, I thought
00:54:10they were unlucky
00:54:11to get something
00:54:11for the game.
00:54:12And you think,
00:54:13they've got a lot
00:54:13of good attributes
00:54:14and a lot of
00:54:15good players.
00:54:16It's just not
00:54:17harmful for them
00:54:17at the moment.
00:54:18No, Dundee have
00:54:19brought a new
00:54:20head of recruitment
00:54:21in Gary Piggott,
00:54:22who will be
00:54:23working closely
00:54:23with Stephen to
00:54:24try and identify
00:54:24players.
00:54:25So, he knows
00:54:26they're going to
00:54:27be, even with
00:54:28new players coming
00:54:28in in January,
00:54:30Dundee know that
00:54:30they're going to
00:54:31be in that battle
00:54:32to try and avoid
00:54:32the play-off.
00:54:33But, boy, I did
00:54:34not expect St Mirren
00:54:35to be second
00:54:36bottom of the
00:54:36table.
00:54:37No, I think we
00:54:38all know what
00:54:39you get when you
00:54:40play against St Mirren,
00:54:40particularly at
00:54:41home.
00:54:42But even away
00:54:42from home, they've
00:54:43been very, very
00:54:44good this year.
00:54:45I just thought, and
00:54:47you could see
00:54:47with them getting
00:54:48the first goal
00:54:49with the boy
00:54:49Anderson, making
00:54:50a mistake, you
00:54:51could sense what
00:54:54was going on with
00:54:55the Dundee boys.
00:54:56But then, obviously,
00:54:57they got the goal
00:54:58and they got the
00:54:58next one, which I
00:54:59think the goalkeeper
00:55:00should have done a
00:55:00wee bit better.
00:55:02Who was it?
00:55:03Dre, was it?
00:55:03Dre that scored the
00:55:04goal?
00:55:04Yeah, right.
00:55:05He put it first
00:55:06post.
00:55:06He was at the
00:55:07right.
00:55:07He's at there.
00:55:08He's at the post.
00:55:08I'd be sure you're
00:55:09allowed to go in
00:55:12there.
00:55:12But to get back to
00:55:13Stephen's interviews,
00:55:15I've been saying
00:55:15every week he's been
00:55:16getting beaten.
00:55:17He's been coming in
00:55:18and going, I like
00:55:19what I saw.
00:55:20There was points
00:55:21there, I like what
00:55:22I saw.
00:55:22I like what I saw.
00:55:23Stephen Presley.
00:55:24You keep saying
00:55:25to yourself, you've
00:55:26just lost five
00:55:26games in a trot.
00:55:27What are you seeing
00:55:28that we know?
00:55:30But a result like
00:55:30that proves that if
00:55:32you believe that the
00:55:33players that you see
00:55:34week to week are
00:55:36getting better, you
00:55:37get these kind of
00:55:37results.
00:55:38In contrast to that,
00:55:39Stephen Robinson
00:55:40didn't miss after the
00:55:42game because he's
00:55:43basically said,
00:55:44listen, some players
00:55:45think they're going
00:55:45to the cup final.
00:55:46They won't be in the
00:55:47cup final team.
00:55:49And then he's
00:55:49obviously had a go
00:55:51as well and says,
00:55:51you know, there's
00:55:52not even an impact
00:55:53from substitutions
00:55:54that are made, so
00:55:55they're under
00:55:56pressure too.
00:55:57Yeah, well, it's a
00:55:57scattergun approach
00:55:58in it because he's
00:55:58looking for a result,
00:55:59Peter, and obviously
00:56:01with the cup final in
00:56:01a couple of weeks,
00:56:02two weeks away now,
00:56:03so he's looking
00:56:04to try and get a
00:56:05one to change this
00:56:06recent form and
00:56:08also kind of make up
00:56:09his mind for the
00:56:09cup final because he
00:56:10must be sitting there
00:56:11at the moment thinking,
00:56:12right, okay, what is
00:56:12my best team?
00:56:14And as I said to you,
00:56:15I look at the
00:56:15personnel they have,
00:56:16you know, I think
00:56:17middle to front,
00:56:18they've got good
00:56:19options.
00:56:20At the back as well,
00:56:21they're robust.
00:56:22The middle part, you
00:56:23know, I don't know
00:56:24whether they kind of
00:56:24talk about Phillips,
00:56:26you know, potentially
00:56:26leaving to go down
00:56:28south.
00:56:29Yeah.
00:56:29Because that would
00:56:31be a blow for him
00:56:31because he's obviously
00:56:32a real big physical
00:56:33specimen in the middle
00:56:35of the park, so, but
00:56:36again, his form's
00:56:37dipped as well as
00:56:38the rest, so he would
00:56:39just be looking to
00:56:40try and get a tune
00:56:40out of them and I
00:56:41think a wee bit of
00:56:42harsh words after the
00:56:43game, they might start
00:56:43thinking about it.
00:56:44Well, we've got
00:56:45Petaudry on Wednesday
00:56:46night up against
00:56:46Aberdeen, Celtic at
00:56:47home to Dundee, with
00:56:50Martin O'Neill still
00:56:51in charge.
00:56:51Dundee United against
00:56:52Rangers at Tannadice
00:56:53is going to be a
00:56:54tasty one.
00:56:55Falkirk against
00:56:56Motherwell, two
00:56:56footballing teams, that
00:56:57could be a right good
00:56:58one if you're a
00:56:58football purist, and
00:57:00Hearts against
00:57:01Kilmarnock at home, I
00:57:04think Hearts will be
00:57:05looking to try and
00:57:06make sure that they've
00:57:07got the points so that
00:57:08it all leads to the
00:57:09game against Celtic.
00:57:11Yeah, well, I mean,
00:57:12as I say, it's changed
00:57:13this year, the first
00:57:15thing, well, the first
00:57:15thing I'm looking at is
00:57:16a neutral, I'm looking
00:57:17at the Hearts score,
00:57:18I'm looking at, oh, is
00:57:20that another one, is
00:57:20that another one, or
00:57:21have they dropped
00:57:22points, have they dropped
00:57:22points again, so you're
00:57:24looking at every game
00:57:25Hearts are going into
00:57:25now and going, well, if
00:57:27they slip up here, that's
00:57:28it, if they don't
00:57:29win this game, that's
00:57:30it, and that's what
00:57:31you're saying, so they
00:57:32really need to start
00:57:33winning games, they've
00:57:34got an ideal opportunity
00:57:35against Kilmarnock, who
00:57:36aren't they playing
00:57:36particularly well.
00:57:37Yeah, and Dundee
00:57:38United against Rangers.
00:57:39Interesting.
00:57:40Yeah, absolutely, I don't
00:57:41know what he does, is he
00:57:43just, do you get the
00:57:45feeling he's just limping
00:57:46towards that window?
00:57:47January.
00:57:48Well, the thing is, I
00:57:50would suspect that he's
00:57:51trying to get a better
00:57:53performance, Peter, you
00:57:53know, a more high-energy
00:57:55performance, and if he
00:57:57wins that, it's five wins
00:57:58out of six in the league
00:58:00campaign, so you can
00:58:02tolerate that, so you can
00:58:03see something to work
00:58:04with, but the performance
00:58:06levels haven't been
00:58:07great.
00:58:07You look at Livingston
00:58:08two weeks ago, where
00:58:09they should have had a
00:58:10penalty, they've obviously
00:58:11still got to score that,
00:58:12but at the weekend, three
00:58:13shots on target, that
00:58:14would be a concern for
00:58:15them, because if you're
00:58:16only hitting the target
00:58:17three times, it doesn't
00:58:18leave a lot of room for
00:58:20manoeuvre, and it's
00:58:21nowhere near enough, and
00:58:23one thing I know about
00:58:24going on, it'll be
00:58:24Tanadice, of recent
00:58:25years, they always raise
00:58:28their game, Rangers
00:58:29coming to town, and
00:58:30there's no love lost
00:58:31between the two sets of
00:58:32fans, so, you know, the
00:58:34Dundee United fans will
00:58:35be looking for them to
00:58:36put more misery on
00:58:38this Rangers fan base
00:58:42and players.
00:58:42Yeah, and just one
00:58:44little footnote, Ruffie,
00:58:45before we go, obviously
00:58:47Martin O'Neill, it's
00:58:48written in the stars,
00:58:49it's a farewell at
00:58:50Celtic Park, usually
00:58:52when you hit the early
00:58:53part of December, the
00:58:54crowd starts to drop
00:58:55as the queues at the
00:58:56fort gets even bigger,
00:58:57you know, and I was
00:58:58doing my head in the
00:58:58other day there, but
00:59:00nevertheless, Ruffie,
00:59:02you know, it's a
00:59:03farewell at home, and
00:59:04they'll be expecting a
00:59:05big gate for all the
00:59:06Celtic fans to say
00:59:07thank you, although
00:59:08typical of Celtic
00:59:10supporters at Easter
00:59:11Road, and that's the
00:59:12one thing I was going
00:59:12to ask you, you know,
00:59:13they did change the
00:59:14tune, there's a tune
00:59:15that they sing, Martin
00:59:16O'Neill, Martin O'Neill,
00:59:17and the third and the
00:59:17fourth verse are the
00:59:18same, Martin O'Neill,
00:59:19Martin O'Neill, and
00:59:20they changed it to
00:59:20sack the board, sack
00:59:21the board, so they
00:59:22clearly, you know, still
00:59:24wanted to make their
00:59:24protest.
00:59:25Just one little
00:59:26footnote, why do
00:59:27Hibs and other clubs
00:59:28persist with this small
00:59:30section of Celtic fans,
00:59:32or Rangers fans, and a
00:59:33whole stand empty?
00:59:34I mean, they had a
00:59:36splattering of Hibs fans
00:59:38in that area where
00:59:39they could have had a
00:59:40whole bank full of
00:59:41Celtic and Rangers fans
00:59:42take the money, take
00:59:43the money!
00:59:44Yeah, well, the
00:59:45board are the only
00:59:45people who can answer
00:59:47that one, you know,
00:59:48obviously they're
00:59:48appeasing their own
00:59:50fans, probably their
00:59:51own fans wanting to
00:59:52say, well, we want
00:59:52more of our fans in
00:59:53than the visiting
00:59:55fans.
00:59:55Make a business
00:59:56decision, that's why
00:59:56you're involved.
00:59:57That's what I'm
00:59:57saying, if you've got
00:59:58empty seats, you've
00:59:59got to chip that out
01:00:00of the road.
01:00:01It drives me mad.
01:00:02It drives me mad when
01:00:03I see seats.
01:00:04And do you know when
01:00:05you talk about a
01:00:05spectacle?
01:00:06We're beaming this,
01:00:07and we're selling this
01:00:08product to other
01:00:08countries as well.
01:00:09Yeah.
01:00:10And you could have
01:00:10the four sides
01:00:11absolutely jam-packed,
01:00:13and they make a
01:00:13decision not to
01:00:14dare.
01:00:14I don't get it.
01:00:16I don't get it.
01:00:16And even when I was
01:00:17at St Mirren, I was
01:00:18like, you need to
01:00:19sell the stand,
01:00:20because, again, it's
01:00:22a player.
01:00:23But it didn't go
01:00:24down particularly
01:00:25well with the
01:00:26natives.
01:00:27Yeah, absolutely.
01:00:28Okay, thank you
01:00:29very much to Alec
01:00:30and to Ravi, and
01:00:31thank you to our
01:00:32new sponsors, Cameron
01:00:33Commercial Vehicles,
01:00:34who are on board
01:00:36for the rest of the
01:00:37season, the ideal
01:00:38company to source
01:00:39your new and
01:00:39quality-used
01:00:40commercial vehicles.
01:00:42Thank you to so
01:00:42many of you for
01:00:43your comments, as
01:00:45ever.
01:00:45Don't forget, as
01:00:46well, we'll play the
01:00:47commercial later on
01:00:48in the week, but
01:00:49you've got a chance
01:00:49if you subscribe to
01:00:50PLZ Soccer's
01:00:52premium service, you
01:00:53get a chance to get
01:00:54in to the end of
01:00:55the season, in the
01:00:55draw, a chance to
01:00:56win yourself, a
01:00:57ticket for you and
01:00:58your pal, flights and
01:00:59accommodation, and
01:01:00two tickets to the
01:01:01Champions League final
01:01:02in Budapest in the
01:01:04Puskas Arena.
01:01:05Certainly worthwhile.
01:01:06But from everybody
01:01:07here, thank you for
01:01:08listening and
01:01:09watching.
