Brett Peters and Danny Reynolds from Elders Strathalbyn give a roundup on the sale.
Transcript
00:00There was 1,200 cattle here today. The lighter end of the cattle in both steers and heifers
00:04were fully firm on last sale. There was quite, quite spirited bidding on that sort of light end,
00:11sort of 240 to 290 kilos. That's sort of 300 to 330 kilos, both in steers and heifers.
00:19I sort of put it as a bit soggy sort of thing. It was certainly back a little bit on the last sale.
00:24Yeah, but then the heavier fellows, both in the steers and heifers, were probably fully firm
00:29and pleasing that was. If anything, maybe a tad lighter, maybe five or ten cents, but very pleasing still.
00:37Wide spread of buyers. There's a lot of hills people in there. They've got feed to burn and that's what
00:41they're worried about, that it will burn in summer. So they're looking to put cattle on to get rid of
00:46that fire danger. So they're very strong on that lighter end. Got all your usual regular buyers as
00:51well, which come from hills, come from Lameru, come from Valley, come from South East. And then another
00:57fair spread again, curious people just looking to see what's happening, which are probably
01:01more local people rather than too far out. The feedlotters have held sway for a long time,
01:05but breeders are starting to look seriously. And we did see that today where breeders are
01:10pushing those feedlotters right to the very brink. Mid-range heifers still again, probably more
01:17restock of feeder type at this stage. But certainly the heavier end, you've got that breeder aspect
01:22coming into it.
01:23The lighter heifers, they were probably sitting either side of $5, maybe a little bit better
01:28for the heifers. So a lot of those little heifers were making sort of $1,200, $1,300 even
01:33pushing up to $1,400. The steers passed sort of $1,450 to $1,650 for those lighter ones.
01:41And then the top of the market was $2,200 for the top end. So prices weren't too bad today.
