00:00man is about to head out on the build for off-road adventure ride we want to make sure
00:09he makes it there safely so today we outfit the tow vehicle and do a little maintenance
00:13to the trailer welcome to truck you now bruno you know of something really cool that i get
00:23to do here and usually you get to do a cool stuff and this time i get to it's the build
00:26for off-road adventure ride with ian's going to be a part of that as the host of build for off-road
00:31willie b is going to be on that from two guys garage yeah you know willie b we go way back
00:35oh yeah yeah willie we're going out to california do some trail riding and that's a long trip though
00:40and i'm taking off like right after we get done with this and that's a long trip so i know you're
00:44concerned about my safety because we got years and years of television i'm actually more concerned
00:47about other people on the road with you driving all the way out there it's that's kind of funny
00:51but i know you're worried about you're worried about your boy so we've checked a couple things
00:54out on the truck right and everything checks out tires engine we're good with that yeah no yeah
00:58the truck's sound is sweet okay so we're good to go for that now i just hope it comes back in this
01:01kind of condition i think it will more of a concern well what could possibly go wrong with us going
01:06out to the other coast and going desert riding for like a week right so here's the big thing that we
01:11have to talk about today though is one we got that 38 foot trailer because we're hauling two
01:15buggies out there that's a long trailer that is that is so but you got the dupli color buggy on
01:18there and willie b's right so we'll look at the well you want to make sure you check the
01:22bearings on that thing right make sure that you know the lights work you got the you know the
01:26brakes all that kind of stuff obviously the tires need to be sound because you don't be dragging
01:29that thing going down the road see i told you he was worried about my safety now the other thing
01:34that we have to concentrate on is storage and i've got a couple things i got a tonneau cover
01:37and a rack for this oh nice okay super coming handy so mechanically we're good i'm going to take
01:43your word for it i am going to check a couple of things let's get to work on the storage all right
01:46think about it how can i not the first order of business when it comes to the storage on the back
01:53of this truck is the tonneau cover and this is the real tracks pro that we got from real truck
01:59and there are a couple different reasons that we wanted to go with this tonneau cover specifically
02:03you know it checks all the boxes right the biggest thing is having security and having a place to store
02:07everything and not worry about it when you're at a hotel overnight or at a campground or wherever you
02:12need to be because this rolls out locks in place and it's hard surface so you're not going to be
02:17able to cut through it like if it was a soft tonneau cover and you slides back up and you have full
02:21access to your bed the other thing too is the t-slot on the top rails of this gives us the ability to
02:26build up and put a rack on top so we have additional storage yeah everything all kind of works together
02:31with this particular tonneau cover yeah anybody that's doing that rack there most of them are going
02:35with this particular cover just for that reason so next thing we need to do is just get this up there
02:40and in place so i don't think it's too heavy we might need to borrow one of these guys come on
02:46sally you got this i got a doctor's note i can't lift i know oh that's not bad that's not yeah you
02:53got to pick it up ready yeah i just don't want to take

03:17and the install is complete well just about that was in real time you know that

03:24so the goal now is it gives a little extra storage for matt when he goes out on this adventure ride
03:45and thanks to the guys at front runner we've got a cool rack that is going to mount just above that
03:49tonneau cover and basically double the amount of storage that we have the whole thing is that it
03:53kind of works together so make sure everything's going to be secure and arrive in one piece well
03:57that was one of the points that you mentioned specifically why we got this particular tonneau
04:01cover because it had this channel in here right and this is the channel that is actually going to
04:04help mount that rack so i mean super easy super simple just like any other kind of channel mount
04:08system you got these little pieces that go in there your bracket sits down on this and you put the bracket
04:13together and boom boom boom you we got infinite adjustability as far as wherever we want to put it
04:18there's more storage on the storage too which is cool yeah you know those boxes are pretty cool
04:22because that's in front runner it's all kind of like an integrated kit so the way they fasten down
04:26is pretty neat there's a channel system on that as well where they go to so you don't actually have
04:30to have any kind of bungee cords or other straps going across it the whole box will clip right in and
04:35be secure to that mount now you also have space too where if you want to throw a spare tire across
04:39the top or a keg or whatever it is you might need out on those trails you've got the room to do so
04:45and it's going to be accessible because that's going to be at right here at this height so
04:48everything amount will still probably stay below the top of the cab so it'll be nice and aerodynamic
04:53save you some gas mileage along the way i don't hate the keg idea so if you want to help do some
04:58packing so it's rounded too so the window deflect over that's right if you want to send some little
05:02surprise gifts that we'll find out there when we're in the desert we're like oh bruno was thinking
05:05about us that's nice care package but i do yeah i like the height because a lot of racks go up tall
05:09and that's cool those are great but i mean that way we're not sticking way up here we can easily
05:13access everything and again if we have to slide this back we can get in there and we've got access
05:18to everything um i don't i don't know what happened up there in the corner huh i don't think that was
05:24there earlier huh all right i got a fix for that cool
05:27all right good go down yep all right what we need to do is get a tape measure make sure we got this
05:52square and it's not all twisted and then we can start tightening stuff down
05:55and go nowhere
05:58all right so we've got about two more of these boxes to lock down but we need to go to break right now

06:09hey welcome back to truck you we are about ready to send matt down the road but before we do that
06:24i want to make sure that he can see where he's going so what we're going to do is pop on a brand
06:28new set of windshield wiper blades we got from power stop these are their power clear windshield wiper
06:33blades now if the name sounds familiar it's because we use power stop brakes on just about
06:37every vehicle that goes in and out of here you know the thing is wind striper blades you don't
06:41really know when it's time to swap them out until you're in the middle of a 2500 mile journey
06:45and you can't see so we're going to take a preemptive strike and put the new ones on now

06:54nice thing too they come in a package of two believe it or not a lot of times windshield
06:59wiper blades only come as one then you got to buy the other and then it's kind of like a one
07:02size fits all you've got all these little adapters you got to play with these are specific
07:06for your vehicle and they've got them from all of them so no little adapters to mess with the right
07:10one is on you pop them in place and you are good to go all we have to do is clean the windshield
07:14first with the little wipe they give us and we can send matt down the road and they've also got this
07:18really cool little indicator right there like right now it's black but what happens is as ub light hits
07:23it over time it'll turn yellow and then what turns yellow it's time to put on new windshield

07:55we'll bring you back in here later so anyway here's the deal when we go on a long trip like
08:00this you know we're always bringing tools and replacement parts and we're always prepared for
08:04the big things that might go wrong i'm a bit of a preparer myself but i like to be ready for the
08:09little things the little unexpected things that can go wrong and that is why i like to bring jb weld i
08:14like to bring the whole product line of it you know because they've got all this different jb welds
08:18for different things that can go wrong you never know are you going to back into something or something in
08:22a crack you just have to maybe bond some plastic to plastic a hundred different things could go
08:27wrong on this trip and you don't want some little tiny things setting us back that's where this comes
08:31in this is the jb weld plastic bonder this is one of my favorite things to use because it's strong it's
08:35got a 3770 psi tensile strength and it's just good for any number of things that could happen it's a
08:41great way to bond plastic to plastic or plastic to metal it works on fiberglass and maybe like i said
08:47you got a gap to fill something you can do that the other cool thing is it works quick you're not going to be
08:51down long because it's going to set in six minutes which is probably going to be good enough you're
08:55just going to leave it like on this trip but you can just wait an hour and then you can sand it down
08:59when you want to finish it so as i said there's just a hundred different little things that can go
09:04wrong and jb weld will fix the vast majority of them so i love to have that so here's the funny thing
09:10we're not even out of the shop yet and i've already got a use for it right we noticed this a little
09:14bit earlier in the show this little piece that goes on the corner and it covers this seam these were
09:19already popping off right so what's going to happen is if i don't glue that on if i don't
09:24secure that well let me get it going the right way that's better right there i mean we're going
09:27to pull out of here and that's just going to fly off on the side of the road so we don't want
09:30that to happen so all we got to do put a little jb weld on that and glue it down and that'll be good
09:35and strong and that way that'll make it out west and back so once we get it all mixed up we can lay
09:45it in there and this is one of those applications i was talking about the plastic to plastic so we're
09:50just going to go on these little contact points right there that's probably all we need leave this
09:58here make sure i've got this pointed the right way which i think i do and then we'll just
10:04line it up and eyeball it boom that looks good right but i'm going to let that bond but just to
10:13be on the safe side we're gonna a little a little insurance policy just kind of hold it in place
10:22nothing fancy all right so that's going to stay right there i'll tell you another thing that i really
10:27like about the plastic bonder is the fact that it's impact and vibration resistant and when you talk
10:31about this trip that we're doing here really soon there's going to be a lot of impact and a lot of
10:35vibration so this is going to come in real handy so we've got a big trailer that weighs a pretty
10:42good amount by itself right then we're putting a heavy load on top of that and hauling it all
10:45the way across the country it's not like you just want to drop it on yeah yeah exactly and i know you
10:50want me to return safely all right so so you got me this which i appreciate because we're not just
10:54hooking it on this and going and saying good luck steel uh make it back call me when you're back right
10:58it all comes down to the tongue weight on the back of the truck right so the amount of weight that
11:02it's actually seeing back here so what we've got here really is like the next level and overall
11:07hitches right because it gives us the ability to take some weight off of the back of the truck the
11:11tongue weight in this whole system here it's it's pretty cool because i've seen the ones you play with
11:15before where you just kind of rig it right you've got like a breaker bar and some chains and you kind of
11:21pull it up into place but this gives you the ability to actually dial it in there's a gauge here it
11:24tells you how much weight is actually on the tongue and allows you to adjust it properly so it's safe
11:29going down the road we were talking about doing that kind of that wheelie or or sitting either
11:34way right you know that's an easy thing to adjust if there's one thing on the trailer you just shift
11:38your load back and forth done make sure everything's good and level but it does get a little bit more
11:41complicated when there are multiple things on the trailer and again i know you're worried about my
11:45safety and i appreciate that so we'll go ahead and get this on get it hooked up to the trailer and then
11:50we've got some trailer maintenance that we have to do too so we'll just bring how long is it 38 feet it's
11:54really long yeah we'll just bring it right in here yeah i don't think it's gonna fit we'll get
11:57whatever we can through that door right through that door as much of it yeah all six or seven feet
12:02of it we'll just get the back part of it it'll be fine that's fine
12:24hey welcome back to truck you as you can see we've got well part of the trailer in the shop it's
12:34physically so long it actually doesn't fit i think next time we get you the big trailer man yeah why
12:38not dude if i had a nickel for every time i heard that you know this is a buddy of ours let us borrow
12:44it for matt's little journey here you know the thing is it's a long trailer it's big and you want to
12:49make sure that you go over something like this before you take it out on a couple thousand mile journey
12:52right definitely you know you're not familiar with it you want to make sure first of all the
12:55lights work and one thing good is he went ahead and rewired all the lights on it and the other
12:59thing too is you want to make sure you have good tires and he did that too check that box you got
13:02all brand new tires and two spares yeah so i mean he took care of pretty much everything and then you
13:07asked him i was laughing about this a little bit earlier bruno was like did you check the bearings
13:11and what was his response it was a direct quote well i asked him you know when was last
13:14when he serviced it you know service the bearings on this thing he goes oh you have to service them
13:17yeah so at that point we decided you know what i don't want to get the phone call late at night
13:22when he's stuck in the side of a ditch somewhere saying come help me so we got all new bearings
13:26for this thing all new wheel bearings all the way around and a spare set for him to bring with just in
13:30case he has a problem he can fix it himself off the side of the road that's like your way of saying
13:34that you're concerned about my safety as i venture all the way west like that's what i'm concerned
13:39about exactly he's like don't call me in the middle of the night dude if i end up in that other
13:42place where they only let me have one phone call i'm calling you just just know that but now you can see
13:47because we can't even fit the whole thing in here right it's it's still hanging out out there
13:50that's why we put that big weight distributing hitch on the back of the truck too so the combination
13:55here is going to make the whole trip you know one thing too i noticed is you know it's got nice
13:58looking wheels on it you have nice uh hubcaps you know what we're gonna do is take those out though
14:02and the reason being is and not about aesthetics it's about being practical so you're going down the
14:07road and you're going to stop for fuel or use a restroom or whatever it might be you want to go
14:10through and actually physically put hands on the area there because if it's so hot to touch you got a problem
14:15with that wheel bearing the only other thing you mentioned was the length of the dovetail coming
14:20behind the tires right i could see that being a little troublesome because you're driving along
14:23somebody right along the expressway right people see this trailer they see the two vehicles like
14:27surely he's passed me by now and they go to cover and they drive over the back of this trail well
14:31listen people are excellent drivers especially out on the interstates they they pay attention you know
14:37they they're very attentive when they're texting and they're watching over on people driving over the
14:41back of the trailer while you're going down the road is three well it'll make for a good story
14:45it really will all right well let's get to going uh you want to lift this up a little bit yeah
15:02so let's take a look at where we're at and we will show you why it is so important to do this type
15:15of maintenance on the trailer right here so here's the old bearing once we got everything apart and
15:18cleared up and it's kind of tough there's a lot of play in that and you can see they're just they're
15:22scuffed up pretty good that's taking a good beating so it's good to get that out of there here's
15:26the new one you know much tighter everything's clean that looks much better so out with the old in
15:31with the new but now let's come back down here on the axle you know you got a bearing that rides
15:35here and one up here this actually is that's smooth i mean that that feels good and you come up here and
15:41if you rub your your you know your thumbnail or your pinky nail along that you can feel there's a
15:46little bit of a groove but it's not too bad not the end of the world i think that's going to be good
15:49enough so what we need to do now is get the races out of the hub you get the new races in there new
15:55bearings all set up and we can start putting this all back together but that is why you do the
15:59maintenance especially before a long trip who knows what we're going to get into on the other three
16:24so the wheel bearings are installed and the job is almost done right here you know we preloaded this
16:29nut right here so it's got the right pressure on and pulled out the little lock so it can't back
16:32off now all we have to do is hit the zert fitting with the grease gun and it'll fill that entire
16:37cavity up with grease the way you know what's done is that grease will start coming out of that bearing
16:42so this cap will go on the wheel and tire and then we need to get this thing outside because the next
