00:00And if you're on YouTube and Twitch, you can see Tyler's shirt.
00:05What's it say, Ron?
00:07It's a victory Monday as well.
00:09Go ahead, T-Mail.
00:09Let's go!
00:10Hey, you had that on at Nashville Airport this morning, didn't you?
00:13Hell yeah, I did.
00:13Coming back from that game?
00:14Yeah, baby.
00:14I bet you're peacocking through that Nashville Airport.
00:17He packed that.
00:18Oh, no question.
00:18I have packed that.
00:20I have packed this shirt each of the last four years on these away game trips.
00:24I've had it for you.
00:24And have not been able to wear it until today.
00:28Hey, man, hey.
00:30I'm happy for you.
00:31I don't believe in curses.
00:34Never has.
00:35It is over.
00:37Tyler can now freely go to road games.
00:40Tyler, they had your ass on the ropes, though.
00:43I ain't going to lie to you, Tyler.
00:44Oh, I was a bit nervous.
00:45They had you on the ropes.
00:46All right.
00:47Like, honest to God, before Friday, I picked this to be a 27-3 type of ball game.
00:54I felt like they were going to destroy them, and I had no real worries about Tyler's curse.
01:00And then they're down 3-0 at the half.
01:03And then they come out, and they're down 6-0.
01:05Want to hear something real interesting?
01:08Hey, because I'm telling you, man, I was like.
01:11The last time the Texans were down 3-0, shut out at the half.
01:16Vikings.
01:17Last year at the Vikings, which is the game I was at.
01:20Last time.
01:21I was freaking out when I heard that stat, man.
01:23Ooh.
01:24Yeah.
01:24Hey, I'm happy, though.
01:26Now we can let that go, right?
01:27Hell yeah.
01:28Everybody, all our listeners, you're good, right?
01:32Now that Tyler goes to a road game, wherever he goes next year, you're good.
01:36No curse.
01:37Absolutely.
01:37No concerns.
01:38The McNairs.
01:39You can chill out.
01:40It's a great point.
01:41They're texting people during the game, talking about, get his ass out of there.
01:44You might want to start getting me in there, because I've been to the last two games, this
01:49Titans game away, one in a thriller, the one before that last week at home in NRG, whenever
01:54they won that crazy-ass comeback over the Jaguars, and I'm going to be there when they beat the
01:59Bills on Thursday night.
02:00So get me in there!
02:02I wouldn't go that aggressive, but hey, please.
02:06It's working.
02:07Hey, Doc, you know Tyler was...
02:10When they caught that touchdown to tie it, I just...
02:14Near my kids, like, oh my God, Tyler.
02:18Good hell.
02:19Oh my God.
02:20And then we're sitting here third and 16, and they got multiple timeouts for like 50 seconds
02:26left, and then Davis did what many quarterbacks should do.
02:32He just said, F it.
02:33Let me find my guy and just put it up there and hope he goes and gets...
02:37D-Mills gets it done!
02:39And 12 hooked up with D-Mills in that thing.
02:43Huge, huge, huge.
02:44They get back to five and five.
02:46They are one game in the eighth spot, one game outside of the playoffs with Jacksonville,
02:53and they have that big three-game stretch, which starts on Thursday coming up as they
02:58will play Buffalo, Indy, and Kansas City.
03:01I know you did the postgame.
03:03I know you've watched this game.
03:04You've talked about it.
03:05Your feelings about what you saw last night in the 16-13 win that they won on the bus.
03:12Well, look, they got it done.
03:13It wasn't ideal, obviously.
03:15A super slow start.
03:17And luckily, you got a defense that can keep it low scoring.
03:23And then they came out in the second half and put some things together.
03:26And when it mattered the most, Nico Collins, Davis Mills stepped up in a big way.
03:32Nico Collins makes a big catch.
03:33And the rest is history.
03:35So definitely not how I would have liked to have gone.
03:38Had I been here Friday to give you a score, I wouldn't have quite.
03:43I don't think I would have got to 35, which, by the way, I don't remember my man's name,
03:46but wanted us to make sure that we shouted him out when we hit 35.
03:49I don't know that I would have got to 35, but I'd have been in the high 20s.
03:57That's for them.
03:57Yeah, I had 27-3.
03:59I think B. Scott and Colin were both in blowout territory.
04:03So, yeah, yeah.
04:04But, yeah, as you said, man, they pulled it out.
04:09There's a lot of – I mean, look, for –
04:11I can't wait until this tape drops tomorrow.
04:14Yeah, yeah, it's going to be fun.
04:15But there's a lot to – you know, you look at the game, Ron,
04:18and I do think that there's a lot there to kind of sink your teeth in that gives you –
04:24it wasn't just a win versus a crappy football team.
04:27Now, it was that.
04:28I'm not saying that they weren't that.
04:30But you look at kind of how these guys approach business the last couple of weeks,
04:35there's a little bit of hope in what we're watching that the –
04:40you know, that at least offensively they do some things
04:43that seem to be making a little bit more sense.
04:47Yeah.
04:48So, there's a little something there to sink your teeth into.
04:51Yeah, yeah.
04:53We'll get and hear from the people in a little bit to see how they feel about things
04:58after that win yesterday on the road against the Titans.
05:03So, we'll do that a little bit later on.
05:05But, yeah, man, they find themselves – they had to keep themselves alive, right?
05:10We said these last two games before they head into this big three-game stretch,
05:14they've got to beat Jacksonville at home and they've got to beat Tennessee,
05:17and they've got it done.
05:18And now, short week, they've got to play Buffalo.
05:21And we watched Buffalo.
05:23We watched Josh Allen go college or high school with six total touchdowns themselves
05:27yesterday against a good Tampa Bay team.
05:30And so, they've got it in front of them.
05:35Control.
05:37But they've got to play player better than what they did yesterday.
05:40They're not beating any of those teams.
05:41There's no doubt with what they've got left on their schedule,
05:43I think they control their own destiny.
05:45I think it's sitting at 5-5.
05:46I think if you beat the teams that are ahead of you, which now there's a lot of them,
05:51and they're pretty good, by the way.
05:52If you beat the teams that are ahead of you in the standings –
05:54But you got them.
05:55Yeah, you got them.
05:55They're still right there for the taking.
05:58I saw yesterday there was a graphic during the game that if the Texans had lost
06:02to the Tennessee Titans, their playoff chances fell to a 9% chance.
06:08With a win, it's a 31% chance to make the playoffs,
06:13which is significantly higher at 5-5 than I thought it would be,
06:15if I'm being completely honest.
06:17The arrow's pointed up.
06:18The thing with where the Texans are sitting right now at 5-5,
06:22where they've landed is this isn't a typical year where you've got some teams
06:27around you that are in a similar boat where they're middle-of-the-pack teams.
06:33I mean, you're right now sitting in a real battle for that seven spot in a wild card
06:40with Kansas City and Baltimore.
06:42Yeah.
06:42I mean, you've got some –
06:43You've got to win over Baltimore and play Kansas City.
06:45Yeah, but you've got – there is some really – potentially really good football teams
06:50that you're battling with.
06:52Yeah, so a little bit of an odd year there where you're sitting in the middle
06:54of that three-team arrangement for what probably is going to end up looking like
06:58for one spot in the playoffs.
07:01So they're even with Kansas City at 5-5, still on the schedule.
07:06They're two back, the L.A. Chargers and the Buffalo Bills,
07:10both on the schedule in the future.
07:12And I believe they're three of the Indianapolis Colts with two head-to-head matchups.
07:19So, again, you've got – now, those are some good teams,
07:22some damn good football teams, potentially.
07:24But you've got it.
07:27I know you're chomping at the bit, but it's hard to hold it back.
07:30I'm not chomping at the bit, I'm just going to be honest.
07:31Well, it's just – I mean, some dangerous to really good football teams,
07:34let's call it that.
07:35There you go.
07:35And the Texans, ultimately, to your point, I mean, I think they control their own destiny
07:40of whether they get into the playoffs or not.
07:42Yeah.
07:42And, look, Davis Mills had himself another solid performance.
07:47We'll get to his grade as we do every week coming up in just a bit.

08:12And I know you guys had some interesting conversations last night, 713-572-416,
08:19YouTube and Twitch.
08:20You can jump in on this as well.
08:22But I know for you, you think potentially, even if healthy, right,
08:31and we'll get an update on C.J. Stroud coming up in a bit from the head coach,
08:35D'Amico Ryans, but you think even if healthy, Clint, that there is at least
08:41a potential serious conversation that needs to be had in-house on who should be
08:46the starting quarterback coming up on Thursday?
08:49Yeah.
08:49I don't think it should be had.
08:52I think it is being had.
08:53And I think the safe thing to do right now is for them to sit down and figure out what's
09:01best for the organization on Thursday night.
09:03And now, this is an organization.
09:05All this context matters.
09:06This is an organization that constantly preaches, we are going to do what's best for the organization.
09:11And you look up at what's happened the last couple of weeks with the way the team,
09:16D'Amico's words, not mine, the way the team has finished, and they weren't earlier in the season.
09:21You look at how, D'Amico's words, not mine, how this team stays calm,
09:25and it's fed by Davis Mills' ability to stay calm.
09:29Obviously, they've won.
09:31They've shown some life in two fourth quarters, one of them in a big way,
09:36and the other one just as you would hope.
09:39So you don't have a broken team right now after two weeks.
09:44You've got a backup quarterback that has been in concussion protocol for two weeks.
09:48And I want to reiterate to everybody out there, it's like everybody thinks that just because
09:52he's not playing on Sunday, he's doing things throughout the week.
09:55The reason you can't get out of concussion protocol is because any level of physical exertion,
10:00you backslide with concussion symptoms.
10:04So we're talking about a guy that hasn't thrown a ball.
10:07We're talking about a guy that hasn't been in a pocket.
10:09We're talking about a guy that hasn't read defenses, that hasn't existed in that chaotic pocket.
10:13And it's a short week where you're going to get nothing more than maybe an accelerated walkthrough
10:18today and tomorrow.
10:20And so I think all of that said, and on top of that,
10:23you're talking about throwing a guy out there that has been on the shelf
10:27and putting him in harm's way that still hasn't gotten out of concussion protocol.
10:30So I just, I think this is a little bit more of a difficult context that we now have
10:38of who takes the field as the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans.
10:42If it were me, regardless of what happens this week with C.J. Stroud,
10:46I would start Davis Mills.
10:47Oh, you would start him, even if C.J. is completely healthy.
10:50I would start Davis Mills on Thursday night against Buffalo,
10:53and I would give C.J. Stroud 10 days to prepare for the biggest game of the year,
10:58which is the Indianapolis Colts.
11:01That's how I would do it.
11:03Now, I've also stood in a pocket, and I'm going to tell you this,
11:06there is, when you are not involved for two-plus weeks,
11:10there's going to be a little rush that needs to be knocked off early in the game.
11:15There's going to be potentially, not even talking about the concussion stuff,
11:19I'm just talking about not being in the pocket, not throwing.
11:22I mean, you're not going to throw routes full speed.
11:25He will have not thrown a route full speed to a receiver in two-and-a-half weeks
11:29if he plays Thursday night.
11:30But that is a tough ask for a quarterback that's been on the shelf for two weeks
11:36to go in there against Buffalo in a short week and make it happen.
11:40So I would personally go with Davis Mills and give C.J. more than enough,
11:46which is 10 days.
11:487-1-3-5-7-2-4-6-10.
11:50You heard Clint lay it out.
11:52Again, I don't think it's crazy.
11:54I let the cat out of the bag.
11:57I don't agree.
11:58But I don't think it's crazy.
11:59Obviously, as Clint just laid it out, it's a short week,
12:03and they're not going to – do you think they'll have any padded practices?
12:07No.
12:08None at all.
12:08Not even tomorrow.
12:10Have any padded practices?
12:11So it's walk-through practices.
12:15And he won't get any full-speed reps in that time frame.
12:22To me, if C.J. Stroud is healthy and cleared and is practicing tomorrow
12:30in what now are the biggest games of my season, I would want C.J. Stroud in the game.
12:38I think he gives – I would think he gives me the best chance to win.
12:44And listen, again, we'll talk about Davis in a bit.
12:47But Davis has done exactly what you would want from a backup quarterback
12:54and probably a little bit more, shown some poise and brought it back.
12:58I don't really care about the competition from the standpoint of what he was able to do
13:04at the end of games.
13:05But if C.J. Stroud is healthy and these are got-to-have-it games,
13:11to me, I said it Friday, I think for them to make the playoffs,
13:15they've got to go 2-1 in this three-game stretch at least of these three games,
13:20I would want C.J. there.
13:23I mean, that's my guy, so I would want C.J. there.
13:27But I don't think it's crazy where you're coming from on that.
13:33Now, if you're saying the rest of the way, I think that's crazy.
13:35No, I think –
13:36There's no – anybody wants to have a conversation about the starting quarterback
13:40for the Houston Texans, generally speaking, I'm not interested.
13:43I mean, there's no doubt about it, C.J. Stroud is your starting quarterback.
13:46He's the future of the franchise.
13:47You're still hoping like hell he plays his way into making $50, $60 million a year.
13:52That's where the organization is.
13:55I'm a simple organization.
13:57What we've heard the head coach say, the most important parts of the game,
14:02the backup quarterback has played like a starting quarterback
14:05and has been clutch, has, according to the head coach,
14:10has been a very calming present for a team, an offense,
14:13and has looked overwhelmed the majority of the season,
14:15and you've got a short week.
14:17I just – I think there's a real conversation that the smartest thing to do
14:24moving forward is Davis Mills.
14:26Now, I'm not privy to the information.
14:28If C.J. Stroud, since Sunday, was throwing with his quarterback coach
14:33and he's out here dropping dimes and he's going to practice all week and throw
14:36and they're asking guys to run full-speed routes and they're getting all that.
14:40But the likelihood of that is probably that that hasn't happened, right?
14:43They're preparing for a game.
14:45He probably hasn't been in the space of full-speed routes.
14:50Yeah, I would doubt anybody on a Monday is doing full-speed routes after a Sunday game.
14:54But I'm not – I mean, I'm saying that.
14:55I mean, stranger things can – I'm just telling you to ask him to go play on Thursday
14:59in primetime TV literally without full-speed on-air routes for two-and-a-half weeks
15:08I think is playing with fire.
15:10Now, if your backup quarterback –
15:12We'd have to try to hit him tomorrow.
15:13If your backup quarterback was playing like Jake Browning
15:15and throwing interceptions all over the place
15:17and not giving even your good defense a chance to win games,
15:20then that's a different story.
