00:00Four straight wins.
00:02Huge win yesterday over the Indianapolis Colts.
00:05As Vandermeer said, knocking off the hoes shoes.
00:09Yeah.
00:10He didn't call them, I know it's in vogue to call people hoes.
00:13He said we knocked off the hoes shoes.
00:14He didn't call the Colts a bunch of hoes.
00:16He was thinking it, I'm sure.
00:19That was, yeah, it was fun.
00:21It was so much fun to watch the clock tick down to zero,
00:24knowing that it was reminding all of the Colts fans about the play
00:30where the Texans got a playoff after the clock had ticked down to zero.
00:35Yeah.
00:35Oh, yeah, that the clock.
00:36Well, it's true, though.
00:37At the end, Vandy was doing the same thing we were all doing, I think,
00:41on that last play where they run Woody Marks up the middle,
00:44and you're watching going, hey, Woody, don't go down right away.
00:48Try to stay up for a little bit because the clock, it was very close there.
00:52It was going to be very close on fourth down as to whether or not the Texans
00:55would have to run another play.
00:56Yeah.
00:57And I'm looking at the game clock and the play clock, and I'm like,
01:00which one is ahead?
01:01You know, which is ahead?
01:02They were like a tenth of a second apart, and it was a good one that was ahead.
01:05Which is the, yeah, and it was a poorly officiated game.
01:10Colts fans have noticed that, it seems.
01:13You think?
01:16The thing about that game yesterday was CJ, as he himself would say,
01:21was pretty rusty at the beginning, and it was still, the first half,
01:26he was doing some good things, and it was hard to really, for me,
01:30I had to consciously try to separate, all right, what can I separate from all
01:35of these stupid week one style penalties that the Texans are making,
01:40lining up in illegal formations.
01:42Twice.
01:43Twice, yeah.
01:44Both covered and uncovering the tight end.
01:47And then, but then CJ himself throwing a ball, I would say, what,
01:50a good 2.2 yards past the line of scrimmage?
01:53There was just a lot of disjointedness in the first half that marred, I think,
01:59what was otherwise, there were some really nice plays.
02:02That first touchdown drive, there were three big plays on that drive,
02:05and then they actually managed to punch it in.
02:08And that's something that had eluded them earlier in the season.
02:12By and large, I think you gave CJ a B on the day, right?
02:16Yeah.
02:16Is that your grade?
02:17Yeah.
02:17Yep, yep.
02:18Yeah, I'm comfortable with that.
02:20I thought it was about a B.
02:21I thought he made some nice throws.
02:23The thing I like most about CJ, and boy, there's a lot to dig into with this game
02:27if you're just getting up with us.
02:28It was a big, that's a big day for the Texans yesterday.
02:31D'Amico Ryans and CJ Stroud are now 3-0 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
02:35You know, for a franchise that couldn't win in Indy for years and years and years,
02:39you know, now it's the house that Nico Collins built.
02:42Nico had another great game yesterday.
02:44But, yeah, I thought the thing I like best about CJ was the resiliency within the game.
02:51They responded, the Texans' two touchdown drives in that game came after the Texans
02:57had allowed a touchdown.
02:59And, in particular, the first one, CJ, the Texans get the ball back on that fourth down
03:05stop where, you know, they tried the Tyler Warren tush push and the ball squirted out
03:09of there.
03:10And so the Colts turn the ball over on downs.
03:12So you have some early momentum in that game.
03:14You're up 3-0.
03:15You just stop them on a fourth down play.
03:18You're playing well defensively.
03:19And then CJ throws an interception the very next play.
03:22A horrible interception.
03:23A really ugly interception.
03:24A horrible, horrible interception.
03:25The Colts take that down and respond with six points of their own.
03:31And then what did the Texans do?
03:32They put a nice drive together and Nick Chubb goes and scores a touchdown.
03:36In the second half of that game, the Colts get their touchdown drive to tie it at 13.
03:42And the Texans immediately respond with a touchdown drive.
03:45That's the part I was most encouraged about on the road was the resiliency of the Texans
03:51offensively in that they weren't great off.
03:54They were pretty good offensively for the day.
03:55I know they only put up 20 points, but that's because they had their issues again turning
04:00the ball over on downs or falling in love with the Cade Stover tush push or in the first
04:06half getting three instead of seven.
04:07They largely moved the ball.
04:09They had almost 400 yards of total offense.
04:11Yeah.
04:12They had over 100 yards rushing.
04:13It's not a great rushing attack, but it was one that when you needed it, particularly
04:17Woody Marks at the very end, the huge first down to essentially end the game, you know,
04:22got stopped short of the sticks, but then like he's been doing, broke a couple tackles
04:26to get ahead of the sticks.
04:28That Woody Marks run to get a first down in the last two minutes of the game was one of
04:33the three or four most important plays in the game.
04:35It prevented the Colts from getting the ball back at the end of the game.
04:37So, yeah, I thought C.J. was a solid B for me yesterday.
04:42Definitely something.
04:43He said it after the game.
04:44There's some throws he'd like to have back.
04:45In fact, let's get C.J.
04:47This was C.J.'s self-assessment.
04:49What are your thoughts on it here, Seth, after?
04:51This was C.J.'s self-assessment of his game yesterday.
04:54I would say, you know, early on I was a little rusty.
04:56I thought, you know, they really didn't give me no big plays.
05:01You know, like they were taking a lot of that stuff away.
05:02So, I thought I was very disciplined, you know, checkdowns and, you know, getting the
05:06ball to where it had to go.
05:08You know, and then, of course, the interception sucked.
05:09You know, I got to just take care of the ball and, you know, put Hutch in a better spot
05:13and just flatten him out.
05:14You know, but other than that, I thought I played really good.
05:17I thought, you know, every opportunity I had, you know, with the ball, I thought I made
05:20the right decision.
05:21You know, a couple plays I went back.
05:23But I thought, you know, I did a really good job of, you know, taking what the defense was
05:26giving me.
05:26You know, I think the type of team we have, you know, I don't have to be Superman all the time.
05:30And, you know, I got to just do my job each and every play.
05:32And I'm not going to be perfect.
05:34I'm never going to be perfect.
05:35And I trust myself.
05:36I know my teammates trust me.
05:37And that's all that really matters.
05:39The thing that he mentioned in one of the other clips that kind of adds on to all of
05:44that is that I think for the first time this year, CJ spoke about the death by a thousand
05:49cuts offense in a genuinely positive light.
05:53And it came when he was talking about, okay, punching the ball into the end zone.
05:56Because these 12 and 14 play drives, if anything, I think when CJ kind of, when he's
06:02had success early in his career with the Texans, it was with a lot of explosive plays.
06:07And he hasn't necessarily had to really learn how to play this style where, yeah, you control
06:13the clock.
06:14You, you, you know, win the time of possession.
06:17You drive down the field and then you punch it in.
06:20They just kept failing early in the season on that.
06:23So when you have a 12 or a 14 play drive and then you, and then you actually get it in
06:27the end zone, you can really see that the proof is in the pudding there.
06:30We talk about the overall offense with only 20 points and they, yes, I would love for the
06:35teams to start teamly scoring 30 points or more.
06:38But for now in the second half, when you think about how the Texans were unable to close out
06:43games earlier in the season, these are the drives in the second half.
06:47And there weren't that many drives, partly because the Texans just drove the ball.
06:5214 play field goal drive.
06:53Sure.
06:53You'd love to have a touchdown there, but it was 14 plays took up eight minutes a clock.
06:57The first drive of the second half.
06:59In the fourth quarter, 12 plays, 65 yards.
07:02Then they turned the ball over on downs with the Cade Stover tush pushage.
07:06But it's, by and large, if they'd handled that differently and converted that or just kick
07:11the field goal.
07:12Just kick the field goal.
07:13That's a good game winning drive or a drive that helps to seal the game.
07:16And then at the end of the game, they closed it out.
07:19So they had four drives in the second half.
07:23Not a single one of them was a three and out.
07:25This is a team that majored in three and outs when you needed drives earlier in the year.
07:31And that part of it, winning the box score, where it really showed itself.
07:36And this has been two weeks in a row where the Colts have lost when their defense is simply
07:41on the field a lot more than the opponent's offense.
07:44So by the end of the game, the Texans had run 70 plays on offense.
07:49The Colts had only run 50.
07:51And that's like the physiology of that, whether you're passing the ball or running the ball,
07:56is that you could see it on the field.
07:58The Colts' defense was worn down.
08:00And the run game started to bite a little bit more.
08:03They were able to get these conversions when they needed to.
08:05That feels like more of a complete football team effort than hardly anything we saw early in the season.
08:11Well, and taking advantage of your opponent, in part based on what they had to endure the previous week.
08:19You mentioned that Chiefs game.
08:20I think the Colts' defense was on the field for almost 90 plays in that game.
08:23It was an overtime game.
08:25You know, so you had a team that was already kind of busted up coming into that game.
08:31And so even when you start the game, Seth, and I know, again, like to your point, we all want touchdowns, not field goals.
08:37We all want these drives to end in seven points.
08:39But you come out and on your first drive of the game, you bang on them for 13 plays and six minutes of football.
08:46They realize that it's going to be a long day.
08:51You know, it's at the very least going to be a long day in terms of how much effort we need to put in.
08:54Again, 20 points is not optimal.
08:56They're going to need to score more than 20 points in games somewhere here along the way to get some wins down the stretch and get into the playoffs.
09:04But for yesterday, it got the job done.
09:06It was, I mean, the first half, that first drive was nice, but you only came out of it with a field goal.
09:11That the first, until the touchdown drive in the first half, it felt bad because you had death by a thousand cuts field goal.
09:18Then you had a three and out punt, three and out punt, one play interception that the Colts responded with a touchdown.
09:26That felt bad.
09:27And you have to kind of separate that from the ensuing drive where the Texans had that touchdown drive, you know, and then, boy,
09:35and then still, again, at the end of the first half, that frustrating, muted lack of urgency, just failed attempt to get into even field goal position.
09:45That was rough.
09:46Not even failed attempt.
09:48It's almost like they didn't care.
09:49They didn't even care.
09:50Yeah.
09:51It's just like, if it's not a failed attempt, we're not even attempting.
09:54How can you fail an attempt if we're not attempting to get into field goal range?
09:57They just, they, they, they burned in a half and I don't want to get too off the weeds on the, on the negative because yesterday was a tremendously positive day for this team.
10:06But yeah, that was weird.
10:07They got the ball with a minute 51 left in the half and they spent over a minute moving the ball 25 yards with two timeouts.
10:15It was strange.
10:16Yeah.
10:16Yeah.
10:17And that point, like to try to what?
10:19Keep, keep the ball out of Daniel.
10:20Let's remember, this is Daniel Jones.
10:22Hey man.
10:22You know?
10:23Oh no, no, no.
10:24It's not Pat Mahomes.
10:25It's not like, oh, we can't give the ball back to Daniel Jones with three timeouts.
10:29Yeah.
10:29Oh, yeah.
10:30He'll kill us.
10:31He'll kill us.
10:31He will.
10:32No, stop it.
10:33Yep.
10:34So, um, so I think the big storylines yesterday, we touched on CJ, his return.
10:40I've, you know, so again, similar to when he came back from the concussion in 2023 and he comes back and he plays well and you're like, okay, good.
10:48He's fine.
10:48And I feel that way about CJ.
10:49I don't think the interception was a concussion thing.
10:52I think it was a, probably a little bit rusty and the ball just got, ball sailed on him kind of thing.
10:57Um, so CJ, um, I think the, um, you mentioned the officiating.
11:02We should mention that Colts fans are livid at the officials in this game because on, on one, the same play, it looked like the officials may have missed a delay of game.
11:13Um, and then there was a bad pass interference call.
11:16It was a bad call.
11:17I thought on the Colts on the Kenny Moore pass interference.
11:21Um, the Colts failed to point out that the pass interference call on Kalen Bullock was complete BS as well earlier in the game.
11:28It was basically a makeup call at that point.
11:30I think it was, it was a real, that was an uncatchable football.
11:34Um, for a football player, it was, there might've been somebody in the stands that could have caught the thing.
11:38Is there some freak of some inbred seven foot nine freak out there?
11:43Probably.
11:43Yeah.
11:44Yeah.
11:44Are there a lot of inbred people in Indiana?
11:46Yes.
11:47We know this.
11:47Um, there was one of them in the stands possibly, but it wasn't Alec Pierce.
11:51So there were those two calls that went in favor of the Texans.
11:55The delay, the missed delay of game call.
11:57Gene Steratore thought it was a missed call.
11:58The, the official, uh, the, the referee expert on the CBS broadcast.
12:03Um, and then the phantom PI.
12:04And then, so the Texans go on to score on that drive.
12:07They score the go ahead touchdown.
12:08The touchdown would ultimately win the game.
12:10They go Collins end around, which was a great call.
12:12Well-designed play.
12:13And then it sure did look like they missed the point after, but you know, if it goes over
12:19the upright inside of the outside, it's impossible to tell exactly where it was.
12:25We know where Colts fans stand on it.
12:27Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:29Um, the, uh, letting the play clock go down to zero, which we know, I mean, this, it feels
12:35like it happened.
12:36Maybe they've been more stringent with the rule lately.
12:38It doesn't feel like I've been as frustrated as many times, but like if you watch football
12:43long enough, you know that they kind of, I know they kind of give the ump, the, the
12:47referee, the official a little bit of leeway, um, that, that it's like, okay, I'm going to
12:52look down, confirm.
12:53Okay.
12:54Yeah.
12:54That's definitely at zero, but, uh, it's like settle down, you know, why don't you try to
12:58stop the team?
12:59Whether it's out there on the field, man, stop being such babies.
13:02Uh, so the, the officiating was a big topic.
13:06I did the real, the quick nerd break.
13:08As I was writing down like, Oh boy, these Colts fans are really upset about this.
13:13The phantom PI calls.
13:15I remember that.
13:16Oh yeah.
13:17The state of Indiana, um, the house of representatives, the state house of representatives once voted
13:23to strike down PI, the number 3.14.
13:27Oh, that's right.
13:28That's right.
13:28They changed it to 3.2, which, which doesn't make any sense at all.
13:33They did.
13:34It was narrowly defeated in the, in the state Senate narrowly.
13:37There was one.
13:38Because, uh, because a mathematics professor stepped in and tried to talk some sense to
13:42these inbred elected officials.
13:44They tried to round up 3.14.
13:47Yes.
13:47Dot dot.
13:48Okay.
13:49Well, it actually happened.
13:50Everybody look it up.
13:52It's called the pie bill.
13:53Then you should have had no problem with the play clock on that.
13:56I will not sit here and have Indiana and lecture me about, uh, about, about numbers.
14:02Damn it.
14:02Yeah.
14:02That's funny.
14:04Um, speaking of numbers, Texans defense, we haven't even talked about the defense yet.
14:09We talked about CJ.
14:10We talked about the refs talked about how big this win is.
14:13Um, for the first time all season, the Colts held under 20 points in a football.
14:17Here is D'Amico Ryans on the efforts of the entire defense.
14:21Hey, look, it took everybody defensively.
14:23I mean, they have great players.
14:25You talk about Pierce, make out, and downs.
14:27Two outstanding catches there.
14:30And Jonathan Taylor, I would say, one of my, one of the guys I really love to watch.
14:34He's an outstanding player, outstanding back in his league.
14:37So I thought our guys did a good job up front, trying to bottle him up and stopping him as
14:41best as we could.
14:42Guys tackle well.
14:43They got a couple of explosive plays on them, and that's what they've, that's what they've
14:47shown.
14:47They've done that.
14:48Really good players, making good plays.
14:50But when it came down to it, in the crunch time, third down, fourth down, that's where
14:54we were our best, and that's when we needed it.
14:56And that's what allowed us to be in the position we're in today, winning the game.
15:00It was interesting.
15:01They were, they were in the exact same spot, the Texans, or the defense, as they were in
15:07the last game against the Bills.
15:09The opponent was trailing by four because they had missed an extra point earlier in the game
15:16and needed a touchdown instead of a field goal.
15:19If you remember, that's the situation the Bills were in at the end of the game.
15:23Almost in the same spot on the field, almost in the same down and distance inside of the
15:28last two minutes, it was a, it was a, the Texans had to feel like this is a very familiar
15:32situation on that fourth down where they stopped them to get the ball back.
15:35Yeah, there were, and it kind of makes you reflect back on just all these one-score games,
15:42and some of it's just random dumb luck, but some of the things that just, man, if the
15:46Bucs, the Bucs game, for instance, came down to that one-fourth-and-ten where the Texans
15:50could have won the game right there.
15:52And that one win right this moment, man, that would make a big difference in where
15:57you are in the standings right now.
16:00But that's where some of it's dumb luck, some of it's weirdness.
16:04The Texans do, the Texans do have a knack for not just blocking kicks, but also just forcing
16:11bad kicks this year.
16:13I don't know if it's a general stress level of kickers knowing that this is a team that's
16:17really good at blocking kicks.
16:18That Danico Autry is out there looming with his, what, 14 blocked kicks in his career.
16:23Yeah, yeah.
16:24But I'll, you know what, I'll give them, I'll give the Texans field goal block unit credit
16:29for that missed field goal.
16:30There you go.
16:30It wasn't just simple dumb luck.
16:32There you go.
16:32Yeah, so.
16:33Or excuse me, missed extra point.
16:34Yep, yep, yep.
16:36So, so that, I mean, that factored in huge down the stretch.
16:39Now, the big difference was Kalen Bullock interception against the Bills ended the game when the Texans
16:44got the ball back yesterday.
16:45They had to go get a first down to win it.
16:47Yeah.
16:47And they did, and that was really cool to see, man.
16:49Woody Marks, we'll talk.
16:51Woody Marks playing injured, too, the entire game, pretty much.
16:54We have a text here.
16:54How worried are you guys about Woody Marks' foot?
16:56I'm extremely worried about it.
16:57I'm worried.
16:58Yeah.
16:59Extremely worried.
17:00He's.
17:00Don't worry.
17:00Joe Mixon's foot turned out fine.
17:02I remember everybody telling us that we were being, we were being drama queens about it.
17:07Yeah.
17:08You guys are so, oh, he'll be fine.
17:10He never does, he never does any, he never takes any reps during training camp.
17:13I can't believe you guys are, I can't believe you guys are actually making a big deal out of this.
