00:00I'm not going to lie, I was judgmental, and Clint, I almost said something to the fella.
00:06So I pulled up here at the station.
00:11I pulled up about 1230.
00:13I sat in the car.
00:14For some reason, I got stuck watching Steelers versus Lions and then Steelers versus Browns.
00:22I got stuck watching that in the car, and I kept looking up,
00:27and I kept seeing a guy, like, doing laps on the top, walking around doing laps.
00:32I'm like, oh, man, do you think?
00:35Get your exercise in.
00:36He probably passed by five times.
00:40But, like, the fifth or sixth time, Tyler, he came up, and he hit a cigar.
00:46Oh, yeah, I've seen him.
00:47I've seen him out there before.
00:49Have you seen him before?
00:49I have never seen this guy before.
00:51My man is out here walking laps, getting exercise in, it looks like.
00:57He is good.
00:57But he's got a full Cuban cigar rolling.
01:02Like, it is.
01:04I've stopped.
01:05No, it's not.
01:06It's almost.
01:07Clint, I almost said something to him.
01:08I got out, and he walked past me as I was walking to the door, and I almost said,
01:14hey, bro, what you doing here?
01:17He's got, I'm going to tell you, he's got something.
01:18You've seen him before, so you know what I'm talking about.
01:19Oh, yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.
01:21Hell, he's in, he's in, he ain't in workout gear either.
01:24He's in office attire.
01:25No, but, like, at first I thought maybe he was just walking to his car.
01:28But, no, he's roping, like, he's getting it in.
01:31He's probably getting a good mile plus in.
01:34No, no, no, no.
01:35He has definitely got some kind of step challenge, daily step challenge going on.
01:39That's what it is.
01:40Because he'll be out there, I'll see him out there on the phone talking,
01:44but he's in, like, he's in polo and khakis.
01:46Today, yep.
01:47He's got, like, short khakis where you can see his ankles with no socks on and shoes.
01:50Yes, he did, he did.
01:52He'll smoke a cigarette, he'll have, he'll have.
01:53Oh, he does cigarettes, too.
01:54I'm sorry, a cigar?
01:55Yes, a cigar.
01:56He'll have his AirPods in, either talking or listening.
02:01Yeah, yeah, but he's got some kind of step challenge going on.
02:03He's like, hey, man, to hell with that gym up there.
02:05To hell with that athletic gear, man.
02:06I'm just going to go ahead and get it in.
02:07But it looks like he's got to walk it outside because he has to have the cigar.
02:12That's it.
02:12It's just an afternoon stroll, baby.
02:16Like, are you getting good work?
02:18Like, are you, like, I mean.
02:19Better than none.
02:20I'm telling you, he's got some kind of step competition going on.
02:23Are you counteracting this with the cigar?
02:26I don't know.
02:26Like, he knows he ain't getting worse.
02:28You don't inhale.
02:30He was.
02:32He probably shouldn't be.
02:33But, I mean, he's just, I mean.
02:34I think he's just quit on the smoking.
02:35I think cigars is what he's going to do.
02:37And I think he's just doing what he can.
02:39I just watched him.
02:40He's cool as hell with it, too.
02:41Well, he, I mean, he's hitting that thing up.
02:44I said, I've never seen it.
02:46Yeah, he's cool with it.
02:47Let me hit, hey, let me get out here.
02:49Let me get these steps.
02:50Let me get these, just walk this mile in and let me hit this cigar.
02:53I done signed up for this damn step challenge.
02:56Let me go ahead.
02:57I got to get 7,000 in this week.
02:59Let me go ahead and get them.
02:59Am I wrong in my thinking?
03:01Like, to me, that the cigar thing while exercising, I think, is vastly different and better than if it were like a heater.
03:10He was walking around puffing, right?
03:12I would think so.
03:13Because you're not supposed to be inhaling the cigar.
03:15I just think, I don't think you know.
03:17I'm not judging a man, but the whole, the whole, the whole deal is leaving a lot to be desired from a workout perspective.
03:23I mean, he's got to be trying not to sweat.
03:26I mean, it's a stroll, Tyler.
03:28I mean, it's a cool ass, a cool ass, I mean, from the tire to the walk to the cigar to the ear, the phone, the conversation on the phone.
03:39I probably sat in my car for 30 minutes, but he's hitting it.
03:46I mean, I didn't notice, I didn't really notice it.
03:49I saw him first, because I park on the edge, and he looks like he's just walking to the other side to go to his car.
03:55But then, he passed me about five or six times.
03:59And I was like, I was like, well, no, this guy's getting working.
04:02Go ahead, man.
04:03Let me tell you what he's going to do.
04:04I said, that's not a bad idea.
04:06Get out here, get you some, feels pretty good.
04:08And then he came through, and my man just hit that thing.
04:12I see the smoke coming out.
04:14I said, what the hell?
04:15And then I got out the car, and I just watched him.
04:17And I mean, Tyler, he's hitting it two or three times around, around his lap.
04:24I've never seen anything like it.
04:26He's going to lay down in that bed tonight, Ron.
04:28Me, you, and Tyler, we're going to be like, damn, we didn't take too many steps today.
04:31Boy, that was a rough day.
04:32He's going to be laying in that bed and go, I got mine in it.
04:34I got an extra 200 in it.
04:36I'm telling you, man.
04:37How much does he, I mean, how much does he smoke, though?
04:40Like, I mean, like, that's, I'm just saying, Tyler, if you have to.
04:45It's for sure, Liddy's not just chewing on a cigar.
04:47No, I'm seeing the smoke coming out.
04:50Tyler, like, you've got a, like, you have, like, you have to smoke a lot if, all right,
04:56man, I'm about to get these laps in.
04:59And I thought maybe this was the first time, but Clint has seen him.
05:02So this is a normal thing for him.
05:03Like, you have to smoke a lot for you to say, man, during my workout, man, I got to hit one.
05:09Well, he can't do it in the building.
05:10So he's having to, that's what he's doing.
05:12That's what he's doing.
05:12He's getting that smoke in.
05:14He's at that smoke fix.
05:15He's knocking out multiple.
05:16He's all up at once.
05:17And a couple phone calls to the family that he can't make in the building on the clock.
05:20You think he's a, you know, when you get to the door.
05:22I swear to God, I'm going to try this.
05:24I'm going to light up a cigar and walk.
05:26Well, somebody's going to roll the window down and holler at you like they did last time.
05:29I wonder if Pendergast ever does it.
05:32You think Pendergast ever has a stogie when he does his strolls in the afternoon?
05:35Oh, absolutely.
05:36No, no, he doesn't.
05:37No, no, no.
05:39No, Sean, Sean can separate his workout from his smoke out.
05:43No, I don't think he's running them together.
05:45Yeah, I don't think he's running them together.
05:47Tyler, don't make that look people can see you.
05:48I don't know.
05:49I mean, Pendergast is a cigar guy.
05:52I know it.
05:52And he takes his everyday afternoon walk.
05:55It's not impossible for him to light up a stogie.
05:57I have zero doubt that Sean Pendergast has strolled through River Oaks with a cigar in his mouth.
06:02And I know Sean is.
06:05I'm just saying, there is no way, Tyler, when he goes to training camp and when he does his show at training camp and in between the practice where he goes and takes a walk around that area, he is not lighting up a cigar.
06:18Come on, Sean.
06:19And hitting that walk.
06:20He is not.
06:22No, I think he's got to be in River Oaks amongst trees, man.
06:24I'm serious.
06:25Sean, he text in.
06:27713-572-416-Youtube or Twitch.
06:29Has anyone ever done that?
06:31Smoked of any kind?
06:33Smoking while exercising?
06:36Cigar, cigarette, crack, any of it.
06:38I don't like to mess with people.
06:42Go ahead, man.
06:42Do your thing.
06:43But like I almost said, I almost felt like pulling a Clint Sterner and just like, hey, man, what are we trying to accomplish here?
06:51What's going through your head?
06:52Like, what's the goal here?
06:55Like, I feel like that's a little flavor for the stroll.
06:57But I would do.
06:58I'm dead-ass curious.
06:59I'm not being a story.
07:00No, I am, too.
07:01I mean, I kind of am.
07:02But I am curious, too.
07:03Like, is this help?
07:05Are you working on your breathing?
07:06Like, is this helping your wind now more than catching up?
07:09I'm telling you, it's a step challenge.
07:11He's got to be.
07:11Probably with his wife and he don't want to catch.
07:13He don't want to get, you know, third degree when he gets home about not getting a step.
07:18I mean, if you got to smoke while you exercise, you smoke everything.
07:22I mean, I bet that man lights up something four, five, six times a day.
07:27I mean, it is.
07:29Somebody text in.
07:30I walk four, six miles every day smoking my cigar.
07:33Two cigars in two hours.
07:35I don't inhale.
07:39Is that the guy you saw?
07:44He's a listener.
07:45I sure hope to God it is.
07:47Because I hope there's not somebody else rolling around here that walks four to six miles every day hitting two cigars in between.
07:53I mean, that's an expensive workout.
07:55I mean, unless you're smoking bottom of the barrel.
07:58I mean, that is.
08:00Stop at this specs before I get to the park for my walk.
08:02Text line, I used to smoke weed before working out.
08:06Yeah, I know it, but you weren't hitting it.
08:08You weren't laying down on the bench and hitting it.
08:13But even if you're smoking weed before working out, like you're just smoking weed every day all day.
08:18All day.
08:18Yeah, that's just a part of your, Tyler, the way you said it.
08:22I happen to know a few fellows who partake before a good workout or maybe run in the courts.
08:28All right, let's step out of this.
08:30Yeah.
08:31They seem to play well.
08:32Because Tyler's now staring into the sky.
08:36Tyler's reminiscing on his homeboys at the sports complex out of William Gray, man, getting high and playing basketball.
08:42On a Tuesday night after curfew.
08:45Don't want to go hoop?
08:46Sure.
08:47I can't even believe it.
08:49All right, J.J. Watt, who, by the way, the Texans, I believe, are 4-0 with J.J. Watt calling their games this year.
08:57He will not call the game on Monday night.
08:59But he did speak about the Texans while he was with Pat McAfee and talking about watching this team.
09:06He's seen them up close four times and how he feels about their potential.
09:11And I know some of the things that he said stuck out to you, Clint.
09:13Here's J.J.
09:15Houston Texans could win it all.
09:16That is a very, very real statement.
09:19How do you feel after watching them so much this year?
09:21And how do you feel coming out of the last game?
09:22Yeah, the last game was a weird call there.
09:25The vibe was just strange because Jacksonville jumped out to a big lead early.
09:29And the Texans pulled their starters at halftime.
09:32And even going into the game, I mean, yes, everybody said all the right things.
09:35But you kind of knew.
09:36And you could sense it just around, even in the stadium, the fans and everything.
09:40Like, yeah, we want to win this game, but we also want to get to the playoffs healthy.
09:43And we want to make sure that once we're in the playoffs, everybody is ready.
09:47And so it was just a strange thing.
09:48Now, give credit to the Colts, right?
09:50Leonard comes out on his first third down deep to Alec Pierce.
09:52There's a little bust in the coverage there on the back end.
09:55They'll have Kamari Lasseter back at corner.
09:58So when you look at the AFC, I mean, this year is, as everybody said, more than ever feels
10:03like the most wide open it's been.
10:05The Texans defense, without a doubt, can stop anybody.
10:08It's going to come down to their ability to put up points on the other end.
10:11That is going to determine how far they actually go.
10:14All right.
10:14I know that back part is what kind of jumped out.
10:18Yeah.
10:19Look, the AFC is wide open.
10:20The defense is good enough to win a championship.
10:22It's all going to come down to whether the offense can score points.
10:25And I think, look, this is stating the blatantly obvious J.J.
10:29did there on McAfee.
10:30I mean, anybody that covers the team knows that this thing is going to come down to whether
10:33the Texans offense can score points or not, but I just, I love hearing it from J.J.
10:38I mean, there's no sugarcoating it.
10:39There's no, oh, let's just overemphasize how great the defense is and how wide open the
10:45AFC is and tell us how good C.J.'s been in the past and how good Nico is.
10:50No, the reality of it is, is what J.J. said.
10:53The reality of it is, it's all going to boil down to whether it's the first round or it's
10:58the damn Super Bowl, it's all going to boil down to, can this offense win?
11:04I'm not talking about piddle around and just score enough.
11:08And it's going to come down to probably multiple times.
11:11If they can pull it off and win, probably multiple times.
11:13If they can't pull it off, it'll happen once.
11:15It's going to come down to whether this offense can score points.
11:20And the reality of it is, is, is I'm, I'm not real confident in, in that being the, the,
11:27the issue.
11:28I'm not real confident in this offense.
11:30If they have been able to get it done.
11:32I'm not, I mean, my, my question to the listeners, 713-572-416 is where are you at
11:38with your confidence level?
11:39I know you're high on the defense.
11:41I know you're high on the current state of the AFC and your chances.
11:43And we know you like C.J. and you like Nico, but where, where are you at honestly with
11:50this offense ultimately deciding whether you can, whether you make a run and win a championship.
11:57Here we are in year three with D'Amico Rines, a defensive minded head coach.
12:01I said it when he got hired.
12:02This is all going to boil down to, can he get the offensive coordinator right?
12:05Can he get the quarterback right?
12:07He got the quarterback right out of the gate.
12:08At least, at least most of us think he got the quarterback right out of the gate and the
12:11offensive coordinator.
12:13You know, it's been a bit of a struggle there.
12:15Things I'm not comfortable with Ron and with this offense, it's, it's easy.
12:19We've talked about it all multiple times throughout the year, basic communication, this team, the
12:26offensive coordinator, the quarterback, the head coach, multiple times throughout the
12:30year, we've heard them talk about getting out of the huddle on time.
12:34We've heard them talk about communication in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage.
12:40We've talked about, we've heard them talk about communication with the quarterback of
12:44line tight ends and everybody that's in pass protection.
12:47We've heard that consistently.
12:48Now it's been better of late, but we've heard that consistency, that basic communication
12:52on the road in a loud environment is going to be a major problem.
12:57It's going to be a, a huge challenge for this group.
13:01And I'm not confident that, that, um, that they're going to get it done.
13:06Handling pressure, just basic handling pressure looks, whether they blitz or not, just the
13:11look of crowd in the line of scrimmage, loading the box up CJ and the offensive line.
13:17And ultimately Nick Caley, their ability to handle that.
13:22They were better last week.
13:23I, I, I highlighted that, uh, in, in a tape drop Tuesday, they were better last week, but
13:29I need to see more to be confident.
13:31Also, last but not least the other pass catchers, not named Nico, everybody else.
13:38I don't know that they're good.
13:41I'll say that.
13:42I'll say the phrase good enough, all encompassing good enough.
13:46But when I say that, I mean, can Dalton Schultz actually separate in coverage enough versus
13:55a playoff caliber team and a good defense?
13:58Can Higgins, Xavier Hutchinson and Christian Kirk, those are the three guys percentage wise
14:04that have gotten more snaps.
14:05I like Noel, but Noel's not in this conversation, didn't play enough.
14:08Can those guys separate enough, create enough opportunity for CJ Stroud to go out there,
14:16move the football and score points and do what JJ said.
14:18This, this playoff or the Texans is going to come down to whether the offense can score
14:23four points to have.
14:25And I'm not saying they're not going to happen.
14:27I've just not seen enough to be super confident versus a playoff caliber opponent.
14:31That is going to happen.
14:32Yeah, which is, which is fair, but the hope is they don't have to have a situation like
14:40Jacksonville, right?
14:40Because that was the only game really where they, it felt like they really had to, they
14:45were forced to have to really score points and come back.
14:49And, and the hope is that the defense can do what they have done for most of the season.
14:56And that is control the game, control the score and not have to put the offense in a
15:02place where they have to go and score points.
15:06The only game, as we said, was the Jacksonville.
15:08Yeah, I do.
