00:00We got the mayor's out here, somebody at his table's talking all kind of trash on Baytown, and she's out here.
00:08East Sider, though.
00:09I bet you she's an East Sider, though.
00:11Channel View?
00:12Did I hear Channel View?
00:13Did I hear Channel View?
00:15Yeah, hey, East Sider.
00:18Hey, Tyler, she's going to line us up to take a picture and go say, all right, Baytown.
00:23Hey, that sounds like a Ronda Show Ugly move, doesn't it?
00:28I mean, don't put that on me, man.
00:29My bad, my bad, my bad.
00:30I wouldn't do that to you.
00:31Rod wouldn't hate on the Dirty Bay.
00:32Hell no.
00:33No, not really.
00:34Yeah, but no, man, it's a good time being had out here.
00:38Also, shout-out to Bud Light.
00:39Bud Light girls are expected to get in here and hang out as well, and you can be a part of that.
00:46TV's all over the place.
00:47Thursday night football, an important game for the Tampa Bay Bucs and that weird NFC South.
00:52TV's all over the place to watch that.
00:54The Rockets will host James Harden again.
00:56If you're not going to the game, this is a great spot to go and watch it right here at Buffalo Wild Wings.
01:02TV's all over the place, so make your way on out here.
01:06All right, Clint, we were able to hear from Nick Caley ahead of this game against the Cardinals
01:14and coming off of the game against the Chiefs.
01:17Anything he said that jumped out to you?
01:21Look, I think several things.
01:23I love the fact that he owned, hey, man, last week wasn't it.
01:28You know, last week the offense, we've got to be significantly better.
01:32You know, I don't recall in past press conferences, maybe he wasn't confronted with it,
01:37but I love the fact that he said, no, it doesn't matter how good our defense is in the moment
01:44or in the season, we've got to be better offensively.
01:48So, number one, you know, I love that.
01:50The part that I don't, and it's not necessarily about Nick Caley,
01:54but it's more about what we're hearing repetitively from the entire group.
01:59The urgency pre-snap, like, to me, that is a way that you practice.
02:07Like, the only way you have urgency problems in games.
02:14I'm glad you brought this up because I've got a question.
02:16Well, but this is week 13, right?
02:19And you had six weeks of training camp before that,
02:21so we're going on 20 weeks' worth of work.
02:25Look, if we still have an urgency issue where the head coach is talking about it,
02:30the offensive play caller is talking about it, like, that is a practice problem, right?
02:38I mean, you don't just show up on Sunday.
02:40Now, I'm not saying at Arrowhead specifically, that could be a game day problem.
02:46You're on the road.
02:47It's loud.
02:49Their defense is really good.
02:50The play call may be coming in a little late.
02:52But this is – we're consistently hearing this from multiple play callers
02:58and now for multiple weeks.
03:01And so that part of it is just a bit baffling to me.
03:05If I were an offensive play caller at any level and we lacked urgency,
03:12it would be embarrassing.
03:14You know what I mean?
03:15Like, I would go to the podium and be irate with what's going on
03:19instead of just kind of casually mentioning it every week.
03:23So that part of it for me is a real struggle.
03:26See, you said that.
03:28D'Amico has mentioned it.
03:29Yes.
03:30He says it.
03:30Is this urgency thing becoming the new execution?
03:36You remember that?
03:37Well, we had the execution thing early.
03:39Last year was just Bobby and then we just got to execute.
03:42They just got to execute.
03:43And the reason why I said I'm glad you brought it up is that was besides him
03:47just saying spirit a bunch of times.
03:50And when they ask you, Nick Kaley, how is Nick Chubb doing?
03:56They don't give a damn about his spirit.
03:58They want to know about his ribs.
03:59Okay, is he going to play?
04:01That's what – not about his damn spirit.
04:04I digress.
04:05But I'm not saying urgency doesn't help,
04:11and that is something that can help.
04:13But was urgency a lot of the problem with them just doing nothing in the third quarter?
04:21Like how much did that – was that urgency or was that, hey, man, they just –
04:26Yes, yes.
04:27Okay.
04:27No, look, there's no – there's no – you can make all the excuses in the world.
04:30Chris Jones is going to cause problems whether you add urgency or not.
04:34Yeah, it seemed like there was an issue of them just getting beat
04:37and them seeming to be more confused about who they should be picking up
04:41when the blitz – if they got to the line with 30 seconds left or 10 seconds left.
04:45Well, there's a big difference in breaking the huddle
04:48and you got 20 seconds left and you can manipulate the defense
04:52to figure out who's going to come, who's not going to come.
04:54Then you have time to direct your offensive line that direction.
04:58You know the right side's bluffing, they're bailing.
05:00So now I've got some things.
05:01The biggest concern for me with the Texans' offense is how many times
05:06C.J. Stroud snaps the football and doesn't know who's blocking who
05:09and if he's protected or not.
05:11That could be directly attributed to the lack of urgency, yes.
05:16Now –
05:17The urgency in what way?
05:19Because I hope you do this better than D'Amico
05:21because they said it to D'Amico and I don't think he was ready
05:24that he was going to have to respond and explain what he means by urgency.
05:28Right.
05:28Well, he didn't want to throw anybody under the bus.
05:29That's why he struggled with it.
05:31But the reality of it is it's either Nick Caley not getting the play in
05:36consistently on time, which is unacceptable.
05:39I mean, if it's a problem every now and then that's cool, that's fine.
05:42You're an NFL offensive coordinator.
05:43It can't be a problem for 14 games, right?
05:45Or there is an issue – an issue may be strong,
05:51but maybe there is a – like C.J. Stroud communicating in the huddle
05:55and getting the play out of his mouth quickly, clearly, and concisely communicating it
06:01so that everybody can break the huddle and go and know exactly what they're going to do
06:04or is he mumbling through things?
06:06Is he struggling through the actual play call and not communicating it well?
06:11All of those things can cause you to be late to get out of the huddle.
06:14And what we're seeing or what we saw versus that – in that third quarter versus the pressure stuff
06:19is a directly, absolutely connected to the lack of urgency.
06:26Yeah, I heard it and I was like, man, that's two, three days in a row,
06:30and not just days in a row, weeks in a row, that D'Amico and him are offering up the word urgency.
06:38Right.
06:38Like they're using it in the way that him and Bobby kept offering up the word execution last year.
06:44Right.
06:45Like they got to execute and it was like, well, hold on, man.
06:48It's just execution because when I watched that game, like I thought, yeah,
06:53the urgency would have been that Chris Jones was not going one-on-one with Jake Andrews.
06:59That's the urgency.
07:00The hell with urgency.
07:01Like Jake Andrews could have had 30 seconds, 30 minutes before that one-on-one wouldn't have worked.
07:06Or that they're walking multiple guys up in the A-gap
07:10and it looks like nobody knows who they're supposed to pick up.
07:15And maybe the urgency part is they're getting to the line of scrimmage, as you said,
07:18too late and they're figuring out.
07:19But I didn't get that feel.
07:20It just got a feel of like there was confusion again that they didn't know,
07:25do I have the safety?
07:26Do I have the backer?
07:27Oh, he dropped.
07:28I didn't – like it – I don't know.
07:29It just seemed like – like I hope they're not in practice in the thought of like,
07:36hey, man, we got to get to the line quicker only.
07:39And that it is not just like, hey, what did we see?
07:42How did we have like nine consecutive plays every time we drop back,
07:48we don't have a chance because one or two people are running free?
07:52Well, look, the urgency thing is an overall problem on the offense.
07:57And we've talked about it with their motions.
07:58And like their landmarks of motions, right?
08:02I mean, there's motion going on and the guys – the ball's not getting snapped,
08:06so the guy's having to stop, set his feet, reset, and go.
08:09So I think those – the ball's supposed to be snapped with the player in motion.
08:14There's a lot of issues with this offense operationally, you know,
08:19that shouldn't be going on week 13 of a season.
08:21Again, after you're 20 weeks into this thing, you should be a little bit cleaner.
08:25He mentioned the alignment problems.
08:26He mentioned the pre-snap penalties.
08:28I've never met a coach that that wasn't a major, major focus on
08:32and point of frustration if you're not very good at it.
08:35So they've got to clean that up.
08:37And I think it can all be tied back to, you know,
08:42ultimately living with a sense of urgency.
08:45Yeah.
08:45You know what I mean?
08:46Like there's – you're just not good enough right now offensively
08:50to lackadaisically go through things and play consistently.
08:54You're not good enough to do that.
08:56And Clint –
08:56Not many are, by the way.
08:57Off of that and off of hearing Nick Caley just now, bro, I –
09:02hey, Nick needs to have a day on Sunday.
09:05Nick Caley and his offense to me needs to have a day on Sunday because, listen,
09:11this is an Arizona Cardinals team that is in the midst of a combination of
09:16struggling defensively and throwing in the towel.
09:20All right.
09:20They are in a five-game losing streak, Clint.
09:23They are giving up 35 and a half points a game.
09:26And in those five games, they've given up 40-plus three times, right,
09:31including 45 to the Rams last week.
09:33I'm not saying that the Texans are going to go through and put up 45 just because
09:37of the way they play.
09:38But when you look at that, the 24th ranked in total offense, 26,
09:45and that is with these last five games.
09:47This is not a good defense.
09:48And we have seen not just the Rams but many teams light them up.
09:53We watched the Jags light them up.
09:56And I would say the Jags are a great offense.
10:00This is CJ's, what, third game back.
10:02They've had a full week.
10:03They're at home.
10:04This is a team that's not a great defensive team.
10:07Clint, I feel like we should walk away from Sunday's game from the offense.
10:13We know the defense is going to do what they do.
10:15But we should walk away because this is bigger than beating the Arizona Cardinals.
10:18This is, can this team get to an AFC championship game for the first time ever?
10:24To me, that's where the thought is, or beyond.
10:27And we need to see this offense pick up.
10:30And against this team that has been giving up 35 and a half points a game,
10:34we should walk away from the game talking on Monday,
10:38hey, I feel like that was a step in the right direction.
10:42I feel better about the offense.
10:44I hope that this isn't like a Tennessee Titans game where they scored 16 points
10:50and they had to hold on and they got shut out in the first half.
10:52I feel like this is a game where we should see some improvements over what we've been seeing.
10:57Well, it's a big opportunity.
10:58I mean, you've got the momentum.
11:00You've got some confidence.
11:01You've dug yourself out of the hole.
11:04And now the one piece that needs time on task, that needs reps,
11:09that needs to see success, they need to see the ball go through the upright,
11:12is your offense.
11:13And you've got a defense that should give you plenty of opportunity to see those things
11:18and execute at a high level and get some things on track and get some guys involved.
11:24And so, yeah, there's a huge opportunity there.
11:26We'll see if they take advantage of it.
11:27I mean, there's no doubt about it that if you look at the box score,
11:31you look at the stat line, this defense is going to give our offense some opportunities.
11:36You know, let's see how they take advantage of it.
11:39There's no doubt about it.
11:39They've been getting smoked, man.
11:41Like, they've been giving up.
11:44Again, like, I'm not, like, and, hell, I don't even know that there's a point total
11:48that I can, like, attribute to it and what I would see, like, oh, if they score 27 or whatever.
11:55But it is just, like, you should walk away from the game like, all right, that looks better.
12:00Man, they just go through strict games, even the ones they've been winning here lately,
12:05where it's just like, God, dog, man, that's not going to be good enough if they trail.
12:10Yeah, I'm less, I mean, obviously we want to see points.
12:15But I'm less worried about necessarily a total of top and 30 points or whatever.
12:21And I'm more of, like, how clean and convincing can we be throughout four quarters, you know,
12:28and which obviously should end in points, to your point.
12:31It should end in more points on the board and a higher score.
12:34But, you know, I'm more, you know, if you handle pressure really, really well,
12:39which to me handling pressure is either have an answer or pick it up, one of the two.
12:44And I'm guessing they're going to see a lot of pressure.
12:46We heard CJ saying that yesterday.
12:48The teams are probably going to pressure them until they figure it out.
12:51Yeah, I don't know enough about Arizona.
12:56I don't know enough about Arizona to know how much they,
12:58they pressure it now.
12:59I can look at those this evening.
13:00But if that's what they do, if it's in their defensive DNA is to pressure a quarterback,
13:08the Texans are going to see a heavy dose of it until they show they can win against it.
13:12Yeah, to me the alarms go off to me if we walk away from the game Sunday
13:16and the offense struggles against this defense.
13:22I agree, I agree.
13:23At home, like the alarm bills are, they should go off, right?
13:28Well, if the defense ultimately has to win this thing, which we'll take it.
13:32Look, we'll take another W any way we can get it.
13:33But if the defense has to win this thing and it's another one of those low-scoring affairs
13:37and the offense sputters and they're inconsistent or for whatever reason.
13:40They go a half somewhere where they don't do anything.
13:42That's going to be a little bit of a buzz kill, no doubt.
